Captain Kronos: Vampire Hunter stands out as one of Hammer Horror’s most unique and compelling entries, especially when viewed within the broader context of the studio’s extensive catalogue. As a longtime fan of Hammer films – everything from the gothic gloom of Dracula and The Curse of Frankenstein to the more outlandish offerings in their later years – Captain Kronos feels like a refreshing jolt of originality that hinted at a new direction the studio never fully got to explore.

What sets Captain Kronos: Vampire Hunter apart is its genre-blending confidence. While most Hammer horrors comfortably bask in the gothic trappings of foggy graveyards, haunted castles, and blood-dripping fangs, this film veers into swashbuckling territory, borrowing from spaghetti westerns and samurai films as much as it does from vampire lore.

Another classic Isaac Asimov science fiction novel is getting a live-action adaptation, with a crack duo of writers bringing The Caves of Steel to the big screen. Isaac Asimov is one of the most prolific sci-fi writers of all-time, alongside other notable authors in the genre, like William Gibson, Frank Herbert, Richard Matheson, and Gene Wolfe. Many of his works have been adapted to the big and small screen in the past, including Apple TV+'s Foundation, the Will Smith-led I, Robot, and Bicentennial Man starring Robin Williams.

Per Deadline, Asimov's 1953 sci-fi detective novel, The Caves of Steel is being adapted into a feature film. The movie is in the early stages of development, but the project has found its writers. The iconic Hammer Films is kicking off 2025 in spectacular style with a cinematic revival of Captain Kronos Vampire Hunter, marking the studio’s first-ever 4K restoration. In celebration of the cult classic’s 50th anniversary, the newly restored version will screen across UK cinemas for one night only on 18th January 2025, with additional showings in select cities until the end of the month.

The previous episode shed light on how Truman became Babe Paley’s best friend and started gossiping around about others. While Truman struggled through fame and writer’s block, Babe’s husband cheated on her. Babe confided in Truman that in this whole world, she could trust only one man, and that was Truman Capote. However, Truman didn’t live up to her expectations and published an article on his group of swans’ scandalous personal lives, including Babe Paley being betrayed by her husband. Babe couldn’t tolerate the betrayal, and after teaming up with her close friend, Slim, she decided to cut all ties with Capote.

The Oppenheimer series is getting some renewed interest thanks to the success of the current Oppenheimer feature film directed by Christopher Nolan. The miniseries, which first aired on BBC in 1980, is now available for viewing on iPlayer in the UK. The series aired on PBS in the United States.

Starring Sam Waterston (currently starring on NBC's Law & Order), David Suchet, Kate Harper, John Carson, Christopher Munke, and Jana Shelden, the seven-episode drama follows the work of physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer (Waterson), the Manhattan Project, and the creation of the first nuclear bomb.

Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer has been grabbing plenty of headlines and dollars this week but the BBC has turned the clocks back to a different retelling, making its classic series available on iPlayer.

The BAFTA-winning series aired on the BBC more than 40 years ago and is available from today as a boxset on the VoD player.

Sam Waterston was the Cillian Murphy of the series, starring as the titular scientist as he led the weapons laboratory of the Manhattan Project, all the while under constant surveillance by the FBI because of his left wing politics and association with communists. As with Nolan’s movie, the show followed his role in developing the world’s first nuclear weapons and his rivalry with Edward Teller, through to being stripped of his security clearance by the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission in the 1950s. David Suchet, Kate Harper, John Carson, Christopher Munke and Jana Shelden also starred.

When I was a kid, I somehow inherited an 8mm film projector and managed to convince my mom to buy me a handful of movies on the format. Now when I say “movies,” I mean these little spools of 8mm celluloid that basically took various motion pictures and condensed them down to silent 10-minute highlight reels, mostly in black and white.

They were in many ways the earliest precursor of home video, and one of the films I convinced my mom to purchase was Hammer Films’ Taste the Blood of Dracula. While the format really prevented me from making much sense of the narrative, certain imagery–Dracula’s face emerging from beneath a cracking caul of dust, two beautiful young women driving a stake into the heart of an older gentleman, a younger man drinking a cup of blood and choking as it poured out of his mouth–stayed firmly with me.

Propping up one of Hammer Studios’ more visceral double-bills, John Gilling’s The Plague of the Zombies was released alongside Terence Fisher’s Dracula, Prince of Darkness in January of 1966. Fisher’s film was a briskly bloody chapter in the vampire’s long career but Gilling’s melancholy thriller packed a considerably gloomier punch.

The London-born Gilling was a writer/director with a taste for provincial settings, class conflict and horror – social commentary with a gothic twist. That formula was put to the test in his distinctly odd bit of sci-fi agitprop, 1957’s The Gamma People, a cold-war fable about a sinister doctor and an army of mind-controlled juvenile delinquents.

Exclusive: Judy Greer is set to star opposite John Cena in Paramount Players’ upcoming Playing With Fire from director Andy Fickman.

The Halloween star will play Dr. Amy Hicks in the pic who is the love interest to Cena’s John Carson. In Playing With Fire, a depot in the remote Eastern Sierras becomes an unlikely safe haven for a trio of orphaned kids who are determined to stay together after learning of Social Services’ plan to send them to separate foster homes.

Matt Lieberman wrote the film and Todd Garner’s Broken Road is producing for Paramount Players. Sean Robins is also producing. Matt Dines is the Paramount executive overseeing the project.

A former special education teacher’s aide in New York state is accused of having sex with a 15-year-old male student she met while at work, authorities tell People.

Alexandra Culhane, 24, was arrested and charged Monday with third-degree felony rape and third-degree felony criminal sex act. Both felonies can carry sentences of up to four years in prison.

Culhane has not entered a plea to her charges and her lawyer could not immediately be reached for comment. According to prosecutors, she was released from custody on her own recognizance and is next scheduled to appear in court on July 3.

Warners answers the call for Hammer horror with four nifty thrillers starring the great Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee. The transfers are immaculate -- Technicolor was never richer than this. The only drawback is that Chris Lee's Dracula has so few lines of dialogue.  On hi-def, Cushing's Frankenstein movie is a major re-discovery as well. Are zombies really that memorable? When you think about it, today’s undead munchers are not exactly an interesting crowd since all they do between meals is wander around in a trance. The pre Romero vegetarians are even worse, as they spend most of their time under the thumb of a zombie master, although on the odd occasion they do rebel against their tyrannical leader.

Zombie movies are a dime a dozen these days, and apart from a few moderately successful variations, they haven’t progressed beyond the flesh-eating antics of Night of the Living Dead (1968). But on the odd occasion a couple of zombies stand out from the faceless crowd of walking corpses, and what some these ghouls lack in personality, they make up for in other ways.

So here’s a list of ten memorable zombies that stood out for me, as an avid horror movie fan.

Carl Moore, 63, a Georgia shrimper caught a rare goblin shark off the coast of Key West, Fla., on April 19.

The goblin shark is extremely rare, and its frightful appearance is more than enough to put off anybody lucky or unlucky enough to lay eyes on it. The goblin shark caught by Moore was estimated to be at least 18 feet long by the fisherman, though experts say this might be a slight exaggeration, as the largest goblin shark ever measured clocked in at 18 feet.

“When it came up, I didn’t know what it was. I didn’t measure him because his head was slashing around, and he had some mean-looking teeth and I didn’t want to get caught up in those,” Moore told NBC News.

After snapping a quick photo, Moore released the live shark back into the ocean.

On Saturday in the shadow of Westminster Abbey, amidst the power-hungry elite of Whitehall and Downing Street, gathered an even more sinister and corrupting influence. Darth Vader rubbed shoulders with evil twins, corrupted children, vampires, zombies and even Jack the Ripper. Overseeing this evil conclave were directors whose films were so depraved that sometimes sick bags were supplied to the audience.

Horror film buffs were of course overjoyed at the fantastic selection of stars at this Hammer and Horror Film event. Representing the Bond girls were Caroline Munro, Caron Gardner, Martine Beswick and Madeline Smith.

In the film there's an accident that threatens Earth, and the story follows a character named John Carson, a pilot who is sent to prevent the catastrophe from escalating, and time is running out.

Midsomer Murders Death and the Divas

Midsomer Murders returned to ITV tonight with an entertaining little yarn in which real life imitated fiction. The aptly named Death and the Divas began with Dci John Barnaby (Neil Dudgeon) enjoying a quiet night at a screening of a 1960s Hammer horror style movie. One of the film’s stars just happened to be local resident Stella Harris (Sinead Cusack). However, the Barnaby’s date-night turned sour when DS Hughes uncovered a murder that seemed to have been inspired by the vampiric activities in the film Barnaby had been watching. Things really started to get interesting when Harris’ rather more famous sister Diana (Harriet Walter) arrived in town as the star attraction at the Midsomer Langley film festival. As Barnaby and Hughes began to unravel the murder mystery, the sibling divas soon became central figures in the investigation.

While everything from George Romero’s …of the Dead series through to 28 Days Later and Resident Evil has worked the zombie film right down to the stump, returning to the genre forebears still proves a dementedly rewarding, refreshing experience. John Gilling’s Hammer riff The Plague of the Zombies observes this type of story through a more aged, yet less cynical – and less serious – lens, while its cutting-edge social commentary remains criminally undervalued.

Sticking true to the schematic of the Hammer horrors we know and love, The Plague of the Zombies is pure camp. When it comes to Hammer’s The Plague of the Zombies it’s never been one of my favourite. When I read that it would be part of the Bradford After Dark event at this years Bradford International Film Festival I thought I’d give it a go. With the digital restoration that has been done I was looking forward to seeing how good the print would actually look.

People are dying in strange circumstances in a small Cornish village and the doctor Peter Thompson is out of his depth in both understanding and dealing with the villagers who want answers. Calling on his professor Sir James Forbes he pleads for help. When Forbes arrives with his daughter it’s evident that something is not right...

Professor Forbes and his daughter arrive in a small Cornish village to come to the aid of the local doctor who wrote to them for help when young workers are dying mysteriously. The locals fear it is marsh flu but the results are far more sinister as the owner of the local tin mine has been resurrecting the dead using voodoo and forcing the zombies to work as slaves in his mine!

Hammer diversified into other territories once their Dracula and Frankenstein series had become a little stale and one such effort saw Hammer turn their horror attention to the walking dead – the zombie! The Plague of the Zombies marks their only effort into this sub-genre and although it’s not the best Hammer film ever made, once again it personifies the Hammer film to perfection – strong plot, interesting characters, reliable cast, superb gothic sets, atmosphere and of course, splashes of blood.

Henry Hobson is the chosen director of the upcoming adaptation of the classic 1954 Isaac Asimov novel, "Caves of Steel."

"Caves of Steel" is a murder mystery set a thousand years in the future on an overpopulated earth, where robots are regarded with fear and suspicion. Police detective Elijah Bailey is forced to work with the humaniform (he looks like a person) robot Daneel Olivaw to solve the murder of a rich "Spacer," a human who has migrated to another planet, where everything is beautiful and hundreds of robots provide humans with every need and do all the work while the people lay around in mansions and get massages and drink mimosas.

Asimov was a master of the detective story, and his "Caves of Steel" series lays out the possibility of two possible sequels to the film: "The Naked Sun," which is set on another robot-and-human planet and involves a gorgeous woman and a murdered,...

According to internet reports, 20th Century Fox, the home of sci fi features "Star Wars" and "Alien", will next adapt sci fi author Issac Asimov's novel "The Caves Of Steel".

The book was first published as a serial in "Galaxy Magazine", October to December 1953, with a Doubleday hardcover following in 1954 :

Twentieth Century Fox plans to adapt the Isaac Asimov’s science fiction mystery novel “The Caves of Steel” on to the big screen. The studio has hired director Henry Hobson to helm the project. It will be Hobson’s directorial debut. His previous work mainly involved designing main and end titles for several films including “The Help,” “Bad Teacher,” “The Hangover Part II,” and “Sherlock Holmes.” John A. Many film actors have become box office stars thanks to one character, but while Sean Connery and Christopher Lee managed to break away from 007 and Dracula, Anthony Perkins’ was forever overshadowed by his infamous alter ego Norman Bates. For some actors, one film role was enough to give them lasting cinema immortality; if it hadn’t been for their performances as the Wizard of Oz and Ming the Merciless, Frank Morgan and Charles Middleton would have been long forgotten.

The UK’s longest-running genre event, the Festival of Fantastic Films, has added director Peter Sasdy to the guest lineup of its 2009 edition, running Friday-Sunday, October 16-18 in Manchester, England. Best known for his work with Hammer Films, Sasdy’s association with the iconic company stretches all the way from the 1969 TV anthology Journey To The Unknown to the company’s 1986 swansong, Hammer House Of Mystery And Suspense, also encompassing the features Taste The Blood Of Dracula, Countess Dracula and Hands Of The Ripper.

Other Hammer veterans speaking and socializing at the weekend-long event include Twins Of Evil director John Hough and actors John Carson (from Plague Of The Zombies) and Scars Of Dracula’s Jenny Hanley. But there’s more to the British genre scene than Hammer; among the other actors attending are Burke And Hare’s Derren Nesbitt, The Ghoul (and Zombie) star Ian McCulloch and Evil Aliens’ Emily Booth.

In 1964 the BBC, as part of their regular “Wednesday Play” series, produced a 90- minute drama based on the assassination attempt on Hitler in 1944. John Carson played Col. Claus Schenk Count von Stauffenberg, now best known for being played by Tom Cruise in Valkyrie. I’ve not seen that, so I can’t compare them, although I imagine there are a vast number of differences. As a TV play, as opposed to a filmed drama, this is quite stagey, with a limited number of studio sets, and some filmed inserts. There is also an awful lot of talking.
