A new take on “The Boondock Saints” is in the works with the 1999 cult film’s original stars Norman Reedus and Sean Patrick Flanery reprising their roles as the MacManus Brothers.
Thunder Road Pictures, which produces the “John Wick” franchise and the upcoming “Monkey Man” from Dev Patel, announced it is teaming with the rights holder Dragonfly Films to the original 1999 cult film “The Boondock Saints” to jointly produce what’s being described as a “reimagining” rather than a direct sequel. Dragonfly Films also confirmed the news on its Instagram.
Reedus and Flanery both portrayed the Irish Catholic killers rooting out Boston crime all in the name of the Lord in the original film, and they also returned for the 2009 follow-up film, “The Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day.” However, Troy Duffy, the story’s original director and writer, will not direct the new film but will produce it. Exclusive: The rebirth of the 1999 cult favorite film The Boondock Saints is upon us. Thunder Road, the producer behind the John Wick films, has stepped in and joined rights-holder Dragonfly Films to make what they are calling a universe expansion of the action film franchise about the fraternal twin Irish brothers who raise holy hell to rid their Boston hometown of all criminals.
In the current configuration, Troy Duffy will step aside as director after creating and helming the original and the 2009 sequel The Boondock Saints: All Saints Day. Both films starred The Walking Dead’s Norman Reedus and Sean Patrick Flanery as the MacManus brothers, with Billy Connolly playing their father.
Reedus and Flanery will reprise their roles, and the search is on for a new director. Duffy plans to write a series of books about the Saints, continuing their story that way.
There might be a renaissance going on for these action franchises,...

Lionsgate’s Vestron Video Collector’s Series is getting a Steelbook upgrade, at least when it comes to David Cronenberg‘s controversial feature debut, Shivers.
Shivers becomes available on Steelbook® on March 5, 2024, exclusively at Walmart.
In Shivers, “The residents of a suburban high-rise apartment building are being infected by a strain of parasites that turn them into mindless, sex-crazed fiends out to infect others by the slightest sexual contact.” The cast includes Paul Hampton, Lynn Lowry, and Barbara Steele.
Cronenberg blends sex and violence in a nightmarish parasitic outbreak in a high-rise apartment complex. Scientifically engineered parasites meant to replace functioning human organs instead renders their hosts sexually violent, hellbent on spreading their infection to others. How the pulsing worm-like parasites infect provides a lot of gnarly body horror moments, including a nightmare bathtub scene.
Check out the Steelbook artwork and full list of features included in the release below.

Fremantle and Kansai TV have launched new entertainment format “Quiz Pong” following a co-development deal initially revealed at MIPCOM 2022. The format was launched in Japan last month by Kansai TV and Fremantle will handle the production and global distribution.
“Quiz Pong” is a fast-paced gameshow where teams compete against each other in a fun tournament testing their mental, physical, and strategy skills. The teams go head-to-head by throwing balls into moving baskets, on a supersized set and answering general knowledge questions to score points. The harder the basket is to reach the more difficult the question inside the basket will be for their opponent. After battling through two rounds, the winning teams compete in the grand finale for a prize.

It's safe to say that "Johnny Mnemonic" has not enjoyed a sterling reputation over the years. Upon its release in the summer of 1995, Roger Ebert damned it with faint praise, calling it "one of the great goofy gestures of recent cinema, a movie that doesn't deserve one nanosecond of serious analysis but has a kind of idiotic grandeur that makes you almost forgive it." Time didn't exactly soften some other critics opinions on it, either; Chris Nashawaty wrote in 2019 that the movie has its admirers but "they're all nuts."
The one person to bear the brunt of criticism for the film was director Robert Longo. In 2021, Longo reflected to Screen Slate on how "Johnny Mnemonic" affected his life: "I basically got thrown into the garbage heap for a while," he said. "My career tanked after that, for sure."

Exclusive: The Boondock Saints are back. Director Troy Duffy has reunited with Norman Reedus and Sean Patrick Flanery for Boondock Saints III, a new installment of the saga of fraternal twin Irish brothers Connor and Murphy MacManus, who go on a vigilante track. That starts after they dispatch two Russian mobsters in self defense, and then have an epiphany to rid their Boston hometown of all crime, while being hunted by an FBI agent (Willem Dafoe) who can’t help but admire their cause.
Impossible Dream Entertainment partners Shaun Redick and Yvette Yates Redick are producing the package with Don Carmody (Good Will Hunting) and Duffy. Latter wrote the script for the film with Flanery, with a lot of input from Reedus. The film will shoot next May, when Flanery has completed his work on the series The Boys and Reedus is freed up from The Walking Dead.

When it comes to horror we all tend to have our favourite type, some will say slashers while others may say they enjoy good old Hammer. I grew up on horror and when I was younger I had a thirst for any film I could get hold of, I found the styles I loved and directors that really caught my interest. One of these directors was David Cronenberg, but one movie that never really sat right with me was Shivers, I just didn’t get it. Then I grew older and wiser and with greater understanding realised just how good the film actually is.

The Vestron Video Collector’s Series returns when legendary director David Cronenberg’s horror classic Shivers arrives on Blu-ray™ and Digital September 15, 2020 from Lionsgate.
A cult favorite, Shivers is acclaimed filmmaker David Cronenberg’s feature-length debut and new title to the Vestron Collector’s Series. When the residents of a luxury apartment complex outside Montreal are infiltrated by parasites and transformed into violent, sex-crazed maniacs, it falls upon Dr. Roger St. Luc to contain the outbreak from spreading to the city at large in a film that “scares and shocks us because it’s so cleverly made,” according to Roger Ebert.

I love the slasher film craze more so than any other sub-genre. Yes, they’re a little repetitive for the most part but they’re always fun to watch. I guess the big formula with most of them, is A) Insert traumatic event. B) Find a location, secluded or otherwise. C) Cast teenagers and have them doff their tops and D) Have them get killed in a variety of manners. Also, the more dated the production, the better. Terror Train follows all of these steps and more. It’s one of the more upstanding and inventive of the slasher films to come out of the early 80′s. The biggest reason why it stands out to me, is that while Jamie Lee Curtis is the star of the film and easily the most recognizable of the roles.

What’s your "only in Toronto" moment?
Having a celebratory dinner at Sotto-Sotto [ in 2001] after the premiere of David Mamet’s Heist with David, Danny Devito, Gene Hackman, Rebecca Pidgeon and others and having absolutely no one approach the table for an autograph or anything. Producer Scott Clayton and his Oceanside Media has signed on to produce and fully finance The Blood Spoon Council, Troy Duffy’s return to the director’s chair since The Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day in 2009.
The psychological thriller centres on the eponymous vigilante group that hunts down and executes serial killers in the Us.
When the FBI commissions a rogue profiler to get inside the head of the group’s elusive leader, the investigation is derailed when the whizzkid engages in a game of cat-and-mouse with a formidable mastermind.
Duffy directed 2009’s The Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day, the sequel to his 1999 crime thriller The Boondock Saints.
In addition to Blood Spoon, the filmmaker has several projects in development including action feature Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em and comedy Black Ghost, which he is writing in collaboration with Cedrick The Entertainer.

The Boondock Saints may not be the most instantly recognizable film out there, but it’s got a very loyal following and for good reason. Fans will know full well just what an enjoyable, wild, Tarantino-esque, action romp it is, but unfortunately, critics didn’t quite see things the same way, as they panned it upon release. In the years since, though, it’s gone on to become a firm cult classic and even spawned a sequel in 2009. Admittedly, the second outing was a far cry from the first, but it had its moments and ever since, people have been crying out for another tale featuring vigilante twin brothers Connor (Sean Patrick Flanery) and Murphy MacManus (Norman Reedus).
While another feature film is what fans want to see most, it looks like they’re going to have to settle for a small screen take on the story, as original director...

“The Boondocks Saints” franchise is still alive and coming to your TV.
Troy Duffy’s 1999 film starred Sean Patrick Flannery and Norman Reedus as Irish American twin brothers Connor and Murphy MacManus, who took it upon themselves to take on the evil Russian mobsters in Boston. Despite critical panning and only getting an initial release in five theaters for one week due to the Columbine High School massacre, the film gained a cult following from its international release and DVD sales. In 2009, Duffy released a sequel, “The Boondocks Saints II: All Saints Day.”
While details about the plot are under wraps for “The Boondocks Saints: Origins” TV series, Don Carmody Television (Dctv) launched its fan-focused pre-order campaign that is seeking donations at BoondocksBack.com. While fans can donate any amount, the campaign has also created merchandise incentives in three increasing tiers. All three tiers will receive a box of “The...

It’s a funny thing, watching David Cronenberg’s early films now with 40 years of work to his credit. He’s a director whose movies have a reputation for being cold, clinical, and cerebral. He is known for his fascination with body horror, but approaches it from the remoteness of a distant observer rather than as a fellow human being. And while some of this characterization may be correct, very little of it accurately describes his early efforts, including 1977’s Rabid, Cronenberg’s second-ever horror movie (following Shivers, aka They Came From Within) and his fourth feature film overall, now out on a special edition Blu-ray from Scream Factory.
At the time most famous for giving adult film superstar Marilyn Chambers her first leading role in a mainstream movie, Rabid is one of several variations on a theme Cronenberg made in the first half of his career, in which he...

"Rules of Attraction" and "Killing Zoe" director Roger Avary is set to helm "Unwind" for Voltage Pictures and Constantin Film.
Based on Neal Shusterman's award-winning novel, the story imagines a cruel dystopian world in which those over eighteen years of age, either function as a cog in the machine of a brainwashed society, or get 'unwound' - your body is taken apart, piece by piece, and given to those the government determines to be more suitable.
Connor (Ian Nelson), Risa (Kiernan Shipka), and Lev (Percy Hynes White) are three young people raging against the machine. Their desire for freedom and self-determination is greater than their fear of unwinding.
Bill Paxton and Jay Baruchel also star in the film while Avery and his daughter Gala Avary wrote the screenplay. Don Carmody, Robert Kulzer, Roger Avary, Julian Stone and Marc Benardout will produce.

Bill Paxton and Jay Baruchel are attached to star, as are Ian Nelson, Kiernan Shipka and Percy Hynes White, who are being lined up to play a trio of youngsters determined to beat the system and achieve freedom.
Carmody produces with Robert Kulzer, Avary, Julian Stone and Marc Benardout.

Unlike House of Cards, Orange is the New Black, Daredevil and Bloodline, Netflix isn’t making much of a promotional push for its upcoming series Between. Perhaps that’s because it’s a co-production with Canadian networks, which means it’ll be un-bingeable, diverging from the Netflix model by launching on May 21 and releasing a new episode weekly. Let the impatient viewer rioting commence.
A survivalist thriller set in the small town of Pretty Lake, Between kicks off as a mysterious plague kills off every resident of the town over the age of 21. The government quarantines the town, leading to a power vaccum and struggle for dominance as the teens go to war with one another in order to stay alive. Think Lord of the Flies with moody, disinterested youth.
It’s a very similar premise to Michael Grant’s bestselling Gone series, which Sony Pictures Television is planning to adapt for the small screen,...

Today, streaming giant Netflix announced that it is backing the Canadian survival thriller series Between, which will star iCarly alum Jennette McCurdy.
The drama, created by writer-director Michael McGowan (One Week), will simultaneously debut on City, the Canadian TV network developing the ambitious six-hour series, and in all Netflix territories outside of Canada. However, in Canada, it will first stream on Shomi, a local creation of City parent company Rogers Communications and cable giant Shaw Communications, before arriving on Netflix Canada a year after its initial premiere.
Between centers on a town beset by a mysterious and deadly disease that quickly kills anyone over the age of 21, leaving local teens to fend for themselves in a frightening new world. When the government quarantines the town, trapping the survivors, most of high school age, inside, a deadly power struggle ensues. McGowan will direct the episodes alongside Jon Cassar (24, The Kennedys).
