Did Eddie Murphy really need to make "Beverly Hills Cop III" in 1994? It depends on how you view his 1992 and just how down you think he was before he made his purported comeback that year with "Boomerang." The Reginald Hudlin-directed romantic comedy returned Murphy to critical favor, but, commercially, its $70 million domestic gross was less than the $80 million take of "Another 48 Hrs.," which was the disappointment that hastened the need for Murphy's return-to-form (even though it and "Boomerang" both received A- Cinemascores). Murphy's other 1992 effort, "The Distinguished Gentleman," was a legit misstep dogged by poor reviews and a paltry $47 million domestic gross.
Aside from "The Distinguished Gentleman", Murphy seemed to be in good performance shape coming off "Boomerang" -- he just wasn't the launching pad for $100 million-grossing blockbusters that he'd been in the 1980s. Obviously, Murphy and his then home studio, Paramount, were eager to catch fire again,...

Plenty of characters have came and gone from the Yellowstone Dutton Ranch over the popular Paramount series' five-ish seasons and counting. While some have made their exit via the "train station" after making enemies of the Dutton family, a few "Yellowstone" characters with potential simply left the show for one benign reason or another. Cassidy Reid (Kelly Rohrbach), the blonde prosecutor who ran for state Attorney General in season 2 before vanishing after just four episodes, is one of them.
At the beginning of "Yellowstone" season 2, Cassidy was introduced as a potential alternative to Jamie (Wes Bentley) on the A.G. ballot, and Jamie's adoptive dad (and frequent antagonist) John (Kevin Costner) ended up backing Cassidy instead. Black sheep Jamie was initially open to double-crossing the Dutton family in a bid for a powerful position, but he eventually backed out of the election, so Cassidy won by default. By the sixth episodes of season 2, though,...

Eddie Murphy's Axel Foley encountered some wild villains during his Beverly Hills Cop misadventures, but some way rank higher than others. The Beverly Hills Cop movies are basically Eddie Murphy showing off his movie star prowess, with the original 1984 film only cementing his growing fame. Murphy also hated the Beverly Hills Cop sequels (though his stance on the second film has softened greatly) so much it took him 30 years to work up the enthusiasm for a fourth outing.
While Netflix's belated Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F was far from flawless, it underlined that Murphy's star power remains intact. Time will tell if Beverly Hills Cop 5 will happen, but given the positive response to part four, there's a good possibility. Murphy's Axel is so overpowering in the films that the villains often fail to register, which has been a problem. In short, most of his antagonists have been a bit lame,...

Eddie Murphy agrees with the consensus that Beverly Hills Cop III didn't live up to the first two films. While the film is appreciated by some fans of the action-comedy movie series, it was heavily panned upon release in addition to falling short of box office expectations.
In a new interview with Screen Rant to promote the franchise's fourth film, Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F, Murphy commented on what happened with Beverly Hills Cop III. He referred to the sequel as "soft" due in part to the absence of John Ashton's Taggart. Along with feeling that his own character and Timothy Carhart's villain failed to live up to expectations, Murphy has also suggested that the film was just a bit too clich, pointing to one particular line as assurance from the start that the movie wasn't going to turn out well.

As a filmmaker, Ridley Scott has always been somewhat reticent to embrace the urgency of the contemporary moment. Though he’s never less than competent in terms of form and as a director of actors, Scott remains to this day a genre-driven stylist and a lover of the physical design, cultural symbols, and lingo that characterize a specific era. Scott’s best films called for immense design work, the crafting of vehicles and creatures, and the imagining of a culture far removed from our current standings; Gladiator and The Duellists bloomed largely due to exhaustive detailing and accuracy of historical costume design, if not historical events exactly.
Life in the present boxes Scott in creatively, as he’s in a way required to show us a world we will recognize as the same one that we will see when we exit the theater. That world doesn’t bore Scott necessarily,...

Did Thelma & Louise invent the Selfie? That's the bold claim Susan Sarandon is making today as she reunites with co-star Geena Davis to reenact one of the more iconic scenes from their classic road drama. Check it out as the two stars prove they don't look a day older than when they shot the Ridley Scott movie, released in May of 1991.

The Overlooked Hotel is a new column in which we throw the spotlight behind the front line, champion those unfairly lost in the shallow focus of fame and feed the hungry underdogs.
Our maiden guest in the Hotel is character actor and master storyteller Stephen Tobolowsky.
There are plenty of superstars out there. The Tom Cruises and Brad Pitts and George Clooneys of this world who, with a sprinkle of their magic pixie dust, can get a film made, with their name above the title on the poster and a big cut of the profits to boot. Likewise, hundreds of films (deservedly or otherwise) have their moment in the sun, awards and box office success lavished upon them as they are admitted to the ranks of “The Acclaimed”.
Then there are the other guys. The other films. Actors who always add something great to the films they appear in, but...

Thelma (Geena Davis) is the neglected wife of a rug salesman and Louise (Susan Sarandon) works as a waitress at a diner. They head off together for a couple of days and decide to let their hair down. Thelma’s naivety, coupled with the predatory instincts of a particularly unpleasant and dangerous patron at the bar they stop off at, results in her almost being raped before Louise shoots him dead in the parking lot. Convinced that they won’t be believed by the police, Louise suggests they go on the run, eventually deciding to head for Mexico. As they make their way through the Us Deep South and the authorities close in, Thelma and Louise get themselves into more and more trouble and it seems less and less likely that they will be able to escape to freedom.

Critics (and audiences) love to place movies under neat little compartmentalized labels, and 1991's Thelma & Louise has been described as many things, most of which boil down to "a feminist version of Butch Cassidy And The Sundance Kid." While that's probably a fair summarization, this movie is much more than a roadtrip between girlfriends, buddy comedy, or tale of a crime spree gone wild. Instead, director Ridley Scott combines his usual tools of the trade -- breathtaking cinematography and effective score -- with Calli Khouri's debut (and Oscar-winning) script that carries strong undercurrents of social realism. To be certain, Khouri did not arbitrarily choose the surnames of Louise Sawyer and Thelma Dickinson, who are both mythical within this depiction of contemporary Americana, but these two characters aren't merely one-dimensional pieces of talking scenery either. At first glance, however, one would be forgiven for assuming as much, since the script wastes no time with lengthy introductions.

Perhaps a little too hard as the hapless Mike is turning off more voters than he.s bringing in. Al.s campaign manager Roger (Timothy Carhart) advises him to dump his brother, but Al assigns Steve Dodds (David Spade) to mind his brother in exchange for a spot on Al.s gubernatorial staff.
