Stranger Things Star Jamie Campbell Bower Among The Rings of Power Season 3 Additions
Image
New casting picks have just been announced for the third season of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. Actor Jamie Campbell Bower, best known for playing Vecna in Netflix's hit series Stranger Things, is one of two additions newly revealed to be coming into The Rings of Power for Season 3. Bower will be playing a series regular role, described as a "handsome high-born knight" who's being referred to under the code name "Arlen." It's believed that he could be a new love interest for Morfydd Clark's Galadriel after her fallout with Charlie Vickers' Halbrand/Sauron.

Per Deadline, another newcomer for The Rings of PowerSeason 3 will be actor Eddie Marsan (Ray Donovan). He will be featured in a recurring role, and the code name being used for the character in the casting information is "Dromm." All that's known about this character is that he "has a brother,...

Jamie Campbell Bower, Eddie Marsan Join 'The Rings of Power'
Image
Jamie Campbell Bower and Eddie Marsan are about to get in the ring...of power, that is. The acclaimed British actors are no strangers to fantasy and genre fare, given the former's time on Stranger Things and the latter's time appearing in, well, seemingly everything else, but neither have played in the acclaimed and beloved universe of author J. R. R. Tolkien — until now.

That's right, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power has upped the star power ante in season three, tapping Bower and Marsan to join the cast for the series' next installment. The show is currently in pre-production in England, working out of a new home in Shepperton Studios. According to Prime Video, Bower will be a series regular, while Marsan will appear in a recurring capacity. Further details are currently being kept under lock and key, too precious for this world as it currently...

Image
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power has finally gotten the announcement fans have long waited for. Although the writers behind the series have been working on a proposed third season for quite some time, Prime Video had not officially renewed the fantasy series. However, The Rings of Power fans can finally rejoice, as the streamer has officially announced that Season 3 is on the way, and exciting plot details have already made their way online.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Prime Video has not only renewed The Rings of Power for Season 3, but the outlet has a logline that describes a major plot change for the upcoming season. The upcoming season will feature a significant time jump, pushing the setting forward to the peak of the conflict between Sauron and Middle-earth during his quest to craft the One Ring. The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power has a (mostly) new writing team for season 3
Image
The second season of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power wrapped up last week, and despite the show being uneven and playing fast and loose with the works of J.R.R. Tolkien, it was mostly a good time. Amazon Prime Video hasn't confirmed whether we'll get a third season, but showrunners J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay clearly have plans for more, and both the cast and crew sound optimistic.

In fact, Payne and McKay have already assembled a writers room for season 3, according to The Hollywood Reporter, so track is being laid. That room includes Justin Doble, Ben Tagoe, Ava Wong Davies, Constance Cheng, Jonathan Wilson, Griff Jones and Sarah Anson.

Interestingly, apart from Doble, this room doesn't include anyone who wrote previous episodes of The Rings of Power. Over the course of the first two seasons, writers like Gennifer Hutchison, Jason Cahill, Stephany Folsom, Nicholas Adams, Helen Shang,...

The following contains spoilers for The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 2 Episode 8, "Shadow and Flame," now streaming on Prime Video.

For as long as I can remember, I have been an avid fan of The Lord of the Rings, both J. R. R. Tolkien's novel and Peter Jackson's trilogy of film adaptations. Like many, I had reservations about Prime Video's The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power due to its deviations from the lore of the source material and the lack of Jackson's involvement, and negative reviews from other fans certainly did not make me any more optimistic. But I wanted to give the series a shot so that I could have an informed opinion,...

The Rings Of Power Season 2 Finale Review: Amazon Needs To Let Tolkien's Story Magic Do The Work
Image
Warning: This review contains spoilers for The Rings of Power's season 2 finaleThe Rings of Power is playing the long game. That's been clear since reports first emerged about creators Patrick McKay and J.D. Payne's five-season, billion-dollar plan for J.R.R. Tolkien's masterworks. To tell a story at this scale with this level of production value, planning is vital. But, part of what makes television so great is improvisation. Sure, it can lead to less-than-stellar results. But improvisation, or lack of a detailed map, has led to some of the best television ever created.

Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 2 Debuts With Shocking Viewerships

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power was topping the Prime Video chart even before the debut of its second season's premiere. However, new information revealed by Samba TV (via Deadline) has suggested that the Tolkien fantasys return has been nowhere near as epic as its original Season 1 debut.

While Amazon has not yet revealed any official details about the viewership of The Rings of Powers second season, Samba TV has become one of the best indicators of how a series is performing over its first few days on release. Based on their sample of 3 million households, the data released by the company has revealed that The Rings of Power was watched by 902,000 households in the U.S. across the first four days on Prime Video.

The Rings of Power Season 2 Features 3-Episode Mega Battle
Image
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 2 is building towards an epic battle sequence that will literally take up almost half of the episodes. The second season of Prime Video's popular fantasy series focuses on Sauron (Charlie Vickers) and his rise to power in Middle-earth, which begins with the creation of the titular rings. The first episodes of The Rings of Power Season 2 featured a lot of setup and little action, but expect an action-packed, three-episode conclusion bigger than anything previously witnessed in the series.

In an interview with GamesRadar, The Rings of Power co-showrunner Patrick McKay discussed the big climax of the second season, which takes place during the Siege of Eregion. This isn't too shocking, as Sauron, disguised as the bearer of gifts, Annatar, is currently helping Celebrimbor forge the rings of power in the Elven city of Eregion. Sauron's evil manipulation will eventually end in war,...

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 1 was very much about Sauron disguising himself as Halbrand. He wanted to wage war on Adar, which led to a scandal involving Galadriel. King Gil-galad of Lindon, Elrond and many other humans from the Southlands were used as pawns as well.

One other key party was Nmenor: the oceanic kingdom that sent ships and soldiers. However, an underlying current was present: political turmoil and a monarch that could be under siege.

The Rings of Power Showrunner on the Contradictions of Tolkiens Own Second Age Stories
Image
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power has constantly been battling die-hard Tolkien fans who claim the series does not follow the canon of the franchise as created by the author. However, co-showrunner Patrick McKay has countered that opinion, noting that the Second Age of Middle Earth was partly chosen as the setting of the series because of Tolkiens vague and sometimes contradictory writings on the era in his main Lord of the Rings appendices.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 2 Rotten Tomatoes Reviews Have Arrived
Image
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power has opened its Season 2 Rotten Tomatoes account on a more positive note than its predecessor. While critics have continued to laud the continuation of Prime Videos epic journey into Middle Earth with a mighty 92% Tomatometer score, audiences have now added their thoughts. While there is still a void between the two sets of reviews that even the bridge of Khazad-dm could not connect, Season 2s first episodes have made a huge improvement on those of Season 1.

The Rings of Power became one of many TV shows and movies to fall victim to review bombing from those unhappy with some of the changes made to Tolkien canon. Alongside these complaints were stacked up 1-star reviews citing bad dialogue, slow plotting, and, more often than not, some mention of race or gender.

The Rings Of Power Season 2 Rotten Tomatoes Score Is In - Does It Improve From The Divided Season 1
Image
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power season 2's Rotten Tomatoes score has arrived after a divisive season 1. Created by Patrick McKay and J.D. Payne and based on the writings of J.R.R. Tolkien, the Prime Video Lord of the Rings show premiered in 2022. After season 1 split critics and audiences as it chronicled the rise of evil in Middle-earth during the Second Age of Middle-earth, there's evidently a lot riding on The Rings of Power season 2 to right the ship.

Rotten Tomatoes now reveals that The Rings of Power season 2 has debuted on the site to an 82% with 34 reviews. Though this score is sure to change as more reviews are added, the sophomore outing currently ranks just behind season 1, which has an 83% score. As seen in the chart below, season 1 struggled when it came to the audience score, and the first audience ratings for season 2 should arrive following the premiere.

The Rings Of Power Season 2 Review: Prime Video's Lord Of The Rings Prequel Feels Too Rehearsed
Image
As someone who found the first 30 minutes or so of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power's debut episode some of the most beautiful fantasy television ever put on screen, my relationship with the show since has been complicated. The first season juggles numerous narrative arcs, some more compelling than others, and culminated in a barnburner of an episode that revealed the creation of Mordor. The Rings of Power season 2 captures some of the same magic, but loses some of the luster that made the first season so captivating.

The Lord Of The Rings: The Rings Of Power Season 2 Review: A Darker, Bolder, & More Complex Return To Form
Image
"I have many names," the con artist formerly known as Halbrand sneers on multiple occasions throughout season 2 of "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power." It's a recurring statement that has the added bonus of putting J.R.R. Tolkien's most famous villain, the Dark Lord Sauron, at the forefront of the action. But the larger question of what, exactly, is in a name has dogged every step of production on this Prime Video series since the moment it was first announced. The first batch of episodes didn't exactly quell many concerns upon release in late 2022 about a mega-corporation leveraging the franchise brand to take expanded material and construct an entire narrative out of spare parts. The overall result was a promising, if uneven debut that provided tantalizing hints of a show that could, someday, live up to the full potential of Tolkien's beloved fantasy universe.

Two long years later,...

Rings of Power Star Daniel Weyman Shares if The Stranger Could Be Gandalf
Image
Daniel Weyman cant shake the character of Gandalf from his mind. Thats because ever since the British actor burst onto the scene as The Stranger in Prime Videos mega-hit, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, the buzz has been building that the character could very well be Gandalf himself, who was played by the venerable Ian McKellen in The Lord of the Rings films.

In a recent interview with MovieWeb about the highly anticipated second season of the series, which debuts on August 29, Weyman was candid about the possibility he could, in fact, be playing Gandalf, noting:

I'm really enjoying playing this character from almost his birth in Middle-earth. I feel like it doesn't really matter to me [if hes Gandalf]. I don't think I'm trying to hang out for him to go one way or the other. I love the way that the writing lands me as an actor in a present situation,...

The Rings of Power Producers Confirm the Stoors Are Coming in Season 2
Image
The highly anticipated second season of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is among us, and so are new characters generating big buzz for their distant ties to J.R.R. Tolkiens beloved Hobbits. Co-showrunner Patrick McKay and Executive Producer Lindsey Weber have confirmed that the Stoors are appearing in Season 2. Like the Season 1 Harfoot characters, the Stoors factor into the lineage of the Hobbits and will come in direct contact this season with Harfoot fan favorites Nori Brandyfoot (Markella Kavenagh) and Poppy Proudfellow (Megan Richards), and The Stranger (Daniel Weyman), as their nomadic journey through the Rhn desert of East Middle-earth plays out.

In an exclusive MovieWeb interview, McKay admitted that one of the overarching story ideas running through the entire Lord of the Rings prequel series is that in a very small way, the creative team was going to tell the story of where Hobbits came from.

New images from The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power season 2 reveal live-action Tom Bombadil. The legendary Tolkien character has never appeared before in live-action. Rory Kinnear's Tom Bombadil will be a major influence over the story of season 2.

“Prepare yourselves.”

That’s what a sword weilding Galadriel (Morfydd Clark) declares to Elrond (Robert Aramayo) and her other warrior companions in the just released teaser trailer for Season 2 of Prime Video’s The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power – see below:

Season 2 of the J.R.R. Tolkien adaptation is coming on August 29, and “prepare yourselves” just might be an understatement.

One word: Sauron. Another word: Unleashed.

Much grittier and darker than most of Season 1, the just released peek at Season 2 also gives a brief look at the Charlie Vicker’s portrayed Mordor master’s Dark Tower. As well, there’s some new rings and their creation in there too, and one Hell of an explosion that could rival Mount Doom’s big blow-up in Season 1. Or, as Khazad-dûm Prince Durin (Owain Arthur) puts it in said minute-long teaser: “an evil, ancient and powerful has returned” — as you can see above.

‘Rings of Power’ to Finish Filming Season 2 Amid Writers Strike Without Showrunners on Set
Image
“The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” is the latest marquee TV series to move forward with production amid the ongoing WGA strike, but the Amazon Prime Video show will be doing so without the services of executive producers J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay.

The sweeping fantasy series has 19 days of filming remaining, sources confirm to Variety, but per WGA strike rules, Payne, McKay and any other writer-producers are barred from participating in any writing-based duties during production while the strike continues — including making creative decisions on set. Instead, the show’s non-writing executive producers (like Lindsey Weber), directors and crew are overseeing production on the U.K.-based shoot.

According to a source close to the production, there have been multiple units filming on “Rings of Power,” including night shoots, for much of the duration of the season given its feature-film level scope. Payne and McKay also...

Only 37 Percent of U.S. ‘Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power’ Viewers Finished Season 1 — Report
Image
Since its premiere last September, “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” has been proudly branded a hit by Amazon. Prime Video proclaimed that the fantasy series premiere day broke records for the streamer with 25 million viewers tuning in. As of March, Amazon has been calling it their biggest show ever, with over 100 million people worldwide tuning in. But streaming ratings are always nebulous, and a new report is calling the show’s success into question.

In the United States, only 37 percent of viewers who started “The Rings of Power” actually watched all eight episodes to completion, according to a new report from The Hollywood Reporter. The number was not shared directly from Amazon, but reportedly came from sources within the organization. Overseas, the completion rate was significantly better, but at 45 percent, less than half of all viewers were compelled to complete Amazon’s Middle-Earth adventure.
