After taking a look back at House II: The Second Story (a favorite of mine since childhood), House of 1000 Corpses (which celebrates its 20th anniversary this year), the awesomeness of Tales from the Crypt Presents: Demon Knight, the leg smashing in the Stephen King adaptation Misery, and three separate moments from John Carpenter’s Big Trouble in Little China, JoBlo’s own Lance Vlcek is continuing his The Best Scene video series with a look at a scene from an entry in my favorite horror franchise, Friday the 13th. The film Lance is talking about today is Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood (watch it Here), and the section he’s focusing on is the entire climactic sequence in which iconic slasher Jason Voorhees gets knocked around by the telekinetic abilities of heroine Tina. You can hear all about it in the video embedded above!

After making Baby Oopsie, Baby Oopsie 2: Murder Dolls, and Baby Oopsie 3: Burn Baby Burn, which were spin-offs that focused on one character from Full Moon’s Demonic Toys franchise, writer/director William Butler moved on to a different Demonic Toys spin-off: Demonic Toys: Jack Attack. The movie was released through the Full Moon Features streaming service at the start of September, and now Full Moon has announced that Blu-ray and DVD copies are available!
Blu-ray copies of Demonic Toys: Jack Attack can be purchased at This Link, and DVD copies are available Here.

Ghoulies is not the Gremlins rip-off its reputation suggests. The two films were in production at the same time, but budgetary issues delayed the release of Ghoulies. Although it likely benefited from Gremlins‘ success, the similarities begin and end with diminutive monsters. Ghoulies II actually shares more in common with Gremlins, as the first Ghoulies leans more — arguably too much — into the fantasy realm.
From producer Charles Band’s Empire Pictures, the 1985 horror-comedy is directed by Luca Bercovici (Rockula) from a script he co-wrote with producer Jefery Levy. At just over 80 minutes, the film doesn’t waste time trying to make sense of its messy plot.

I remember enjoying the original 1992 Demonic Toys and its low-budget horror charm, and while easily forgettable there was plenty to enjoy about the sequels too. But as the last one was released in 2010, it came as a surprise when I heard a new movie was coming out in 2023. Perhaps I shouldn’t have been completely surprised because Full Moon Features have been keeping the franchise alive the last couple of years with comics and two TV series – which I need to get around to checking out!
Jack Attack – the fifth movie in the Demonic Toys franchise – shows a young orphaned mute girl who has been gifted a Jack in the Box from the Demonic Toys but she soon discovers this is no good thing.
At less than an hour long, I think it only just reaches...

Plot: After her foster mother is killed by the demonic jack-in-the-box Jack Attack, 16-year-old Lily is placed with another family… and then Jack Attack returns to wipe them out as well.
Review: Back in 1992, Full Moon introduced horror fans to the Demonic Toys. Four tiny terrors that look like something you’d find in a kid’s playroom, but are actually homicidal servants to demonic masters. There was Jack Attack, a clown jack-in-the-box with a maniacal laugh, sharp teeth, and a tentacle tail; Grizzly Teddy, a vicious teddy bear; Mister Static, a robot that rolls on tank treads and fires deadly lazers from its gun arms; and mouthy baby doll Baby Oopsie. The Demonic Toys never gained as much popularity as the puppets from Full Moon’s Puppet Master series, but they did get a franchise of their own. The Night of the Living Dead (1990) episode of Wtf Happened to This Horror Movie? was Written by Emilie Black, Narrated by Adam Walton, Edited by Victoria Verduzco, Produced by Andrew Hatfield and John Fallon, and Executive Produced by Berge Garabedian.
Horror remakes are everywhere these days, but back in the late 1980s and early 1990s, there were quite a few less, in fact, they were pretty rare. Of course, some had come and gone, with varying degrees of quality and success. Some of the better ones are well remembered to this day, including The Thing, The Fly, and The Blob. In 1990, another remake came out to a bit less joy. In fact, it was downright hated by many, with Roger Ebert even putting it on his “Most Hated” list, something that was not entirely surprising as he had high regards for some of the George A. Romero originals that came before.

Earlier this year, Full Moon founder Charles Band announced that the Demonic Toys franchise would be continuing with another spin-off film that focuses on just one of the evil toys. After making Baby Oopsie, Baby Oopsie 2: Murder Dolls, and Baby Oopsie 3: Burn Baby Burn, writer/director William Butler moved on to a different Demonic Toys spin-off: Demonic Toys: Jack Attack. That movie is now in post-production, and in the new episode of his Full Moon Universe YouTube series, Band has shared the trailer! You can check it out in the embed at the bottom of this article.
We don’t have a plot synopsis for Demonic Toys: Jack Attack at this time, but Band has said that “It’s gonna be another Billy Butler mad movie, sparing no expense with death and weirdness and teeth and biting.” That said, the newly released trailer does give an idea of the story being told.

The original "Grease" stage musical first debuted at the Kingston Mines night club in Chicago in 1971. The book was by Jim Jacobs and Warren Casey, who also wrote the music and lyrics with John Farrar. Set in the 1950s, "Grease" was a winking, somewhat bawdy anti-nostalgia piece about high school greasers and car nuts falling in love after a significant summer vacation. It banked on the images of squeaky-clean 1950s teeny-bopper movies, but inserted sexuality, a teen pregnancy, gang violence, and themes of class. The main characters were Danny the greaser and Sandy the square. They had a romantic fling in the summer, but may be too embarrassed to date one another during the school year. Their relationship is reconciled when Sandy adopts the clothes and mannerisms of the greasers. "Grease" moved to Broadway in 1972 and played all the way through 1980, making it the longest-running Broadway show at the time.

Sometimes the rule can be soft-pedaled with animatronics and CGI facsimiles, but that doesn't necessarily guarantee a smoother production.
One of the most savage when-animals-attack movies (according to /Film standards) crafted an incredible antagonist for the cast and crew to wrangle, but that didn't ease the shoot any. Luis Llosa's "Anaconda" is a 1997 adventure-horror movie that sees a small film crew venturing into the Amazon in search of an undiscovered (fictional) tribe called the Shirishamas and, after running into a shady hunter, end up tussling with a mythic green boa snake. Featuring a stacked cast (Ice Cube! Danny Trejo! Jennifer Lopez!) and a cult following, "Anaconda" is one of the enduring creature features of the 1990s.

The Count Yorga Collection
Blu-ray
Arrow Video
1970, 1971 / 1.85: 1 / 190 Min.
Starring Robert Quarry, Michael Murphy, Mariette Hartley
Written by Bob Kelljan, Yvonne Wilder
Directed by Bob Kelljan
An aristocratic bloodsucker from the old country is the main attraction of Bob Kelljan’s Count Yorga, Vampire, but what drives the movie is an actual motor, a 1969 Volkswagen bus with a blood red trim. That amiable vehicle, the stoner’s favorite mode of transportation, is front and center in several pivotal scenes (Yorga even hitches a ride) and comes to symbolize the film’s premise; an old-fashioned vampire at large in The Me Decade. The set-up is ripe for a satire like Joe Dante’s The Howling, but instead of taking the stuffing out of horror movie cliches, Kelljan is dead serious about the undead.

Deep Throat star Harry Reems was hired to play Coach Calhoun in the 1978 Paramount blockbuster Grease. It all unraveled, however, when studio executives caught wind of the plan and forced producer Alan Carr to fire the adult film star from the production.
That surprising detail came out on the latest episode of It Happened in Hollywood, the Hollywood Reporter podcast that revisits the making of classic films, told by the people who made them.
Joining the podcast this week is Grease director Randal Kleiser, who was 31 when he was tapped to helm the splashy Broadway musical adaptation at the urging of star John Travolta, then 23, whom Kleiser had directed in the ABC TV movie The Boy in the Plastic Bubble.
“[Alan] actually hired him,” recalls Kleiser of Reems. “And the studio said, ‘No no no. You can’t do that.’ And so they had to fire him.

Though he's only directed three films, Jordan Peele's cineliterate, socially conscious horror movies yield myriad Easter eggs and sometimes call attention to his influences outright. In "Nope," for instance, there's a motorcycle slide that had many "Akira" fans nodding along, thinking, "I understood that reference". The original "Akira" motorcycle was actually inspired by "Tron," so it's as if Peele and his forebears just have their arms linked in a "4,000-mile-long chain" of film homages à la the Hands Across America commercial in "Us."
Like the movie brats of the 1970s, the Oscar-winning "Get Out" writer and director is part of a continuum of auteurs who wear their hyper-referentiality as a badge of honor. Art begets art, and Peele begets "Jaws" references. Steven Spielberg's 1975 film gave rise to a new kind of spectacle, the summer blockbuster, so it should come as no surprise that — as Peele goes into blockbuster...

What many consider among the greatest films ever made, Steven Spielberg’s 1975 classic Jaws recently received the 3D treatment and was released today in Real D–equipped theaters. (It also opens in 2D Imax.)
“We’re enhancing the 3D by kind of bringing the water out into the audience, at the beginning of the film with, Chrissy, where she’s swimming,” explains stereographer Jeremy Carroll — who led the conversion to 3D, with direction by Spielberg — in a new episode of The Hollywood Reporter’s Behind the Screen. “That’s an intentional choice that we made to really kind of bring the audience into those shots to make you feel like you’re in the water with her to up that tension.”
To be sure, this isn’t Jaws 3D, the 1983 sequel that was viewed by audiences with cardboard glasses and received generally negative reviews.

Thin Lizzy’s songs typically addressed badass rock & roll topics like bar fights, jailbreaks and medieval battles. But on Black Rose: A Rock Legend — their ninth LP, released 40 years ago today — the band paid tribute to their Irish homeland with a highly unusual and weirdly touching album-closing epic.
“Tell me the legends of long ago,” Phil Lynott sings over a rolling, waltz-time riff at the beginning of “Róisín Dubh (Black Rose): A Rock Legend,” named for an old Irish song that addresses the country as though it were a lover.
