On January 6, 2019, Braakensiek, who celebrated her 46th birthday four weeks ago, was found dead in her apartment in Potts Poin, a suburb of inner-city Sydney, after she had not been heard from for a few days. She apparently committed suicide following depression mostly caused by separation from her husband, loss of two close friends to suicide and the death of her grandfather all within a short space of time. Earlier in her life, she was able to overcome depression and then helped the suicide prevention charity wanting to help others, especially after the deaths of her close friends.

Grew up in a commune in the north of New South Wales.

In April 2018, she announced separation from her husband of 16 years Danny Goldberg but they never divorced until her death in January 2019.

But the bad side is that people judge you. They say, 'Model...blonde...big breasts...bimbo!' If they bothered to talk to me, they'd learn that I've been to university and can speak five languages: English and German fluently and Dutch, Italian and Japanese conversationally.

I've been approached for many years to do pornographic magazines, and a lot of them have pinched shots without my knowledge or consent. I've never done a shoot for Playboy and so on because I choose not to. It's just not something I think I need to do
