"Treehouse of Horror Xxxiii," aired on October 30, 2022, turned "The Simpsons" from animation into anime. In the episode's 2nd segment, "Death Tome," Lisa finds a book with the power over life and death, using it to take her environmental activism to new, homicidal levels. If you couldn't tell, the segment is a parody of "Death Note." The episode even renders Springfield and its denizens in anime style, with art supplied by South Korean studio Dr Movie, animators of "Death Note" itself.
"Death Note" is one of those go-to anime that even the anime averse have probably heard of. This makes it prime for parody by something as American mainstream as "The Simpsons." In fact, "Death Tome" is not even the first "Treehouse of Horror" parody of the series. However, the first pastiche happened not in "The Simpsons" itself, but a tie-in comic.

The usual gang of idiots at Mad will put Mad Magazine #13 on sale next week and it might be the saddest thing to happen to music since Eminem replaced Marilyn Manson as America’s Worst Nightmare. The issue is called “Mad Mocks Music,” and it is filled with spoofs and comedic cartoons about the esteemed and infallible music industry, bless the very steady rhythms of its heart.
Mad’s had it in, and out, for music since neither of their Musically Mad LP or Mad ‘Twists’ Rock ‘n’ Roll records charted in the late 50s and early 60s. But this isn’t just about moldy oldies, contemporary artists like Billie Eilish are also relegated to scary babysitting duty in the pages of the upcoming issue. Alfred E. Newman’s What Me Worry Band continues to rebuke the Beatles musical progression with a tone-deaf alternative.
Meanwhile, the people at Mad presented...

An exclusive preview of "Mad Screens TV" catches Spy vs Spy in a video camera booby trap.
Mad Magazine is taking on the small screen in their upcoming Mad Issue #12, “Mad Screens TV," and - Spoiler Alert - the magazine spoofs all comers. From nostalgic parodies of classic sit-com M*A*S*H and educational series Sesame Street to sendups of contemporary programming, like RuPaul's Drag Race shows, America's longest-running humor magazine finds reasons to change the channel.
The usual gang of idiots may be comic masterminds, but they are no masters of espionage. They leaked an exclusive preview of the new Spy vs. Spy comic strip. Written and illustrated by Peter Kuper, the 2-page comic strip follows Black Spy and White Spy as they play with their new, probably-government-issued, Acme TV electronic eye surveillance equipment toys. But they are not programming. They use video camera booby traps to...
