After taking a look back at House II: The Second Story (a favorite of mine since childhood), House of 1000 Corpses (which celebrated its 20th anniversary last year), the awesomeness of Tales from the Crypt Presents: Demon Knight, the leg smashing in the Stephen King adaptation Misery, three separate moments from John Carpenter’s Big Trouble in Little China, and the “Jason vs. Tina” battle in Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood, JoBlo’s own Lance Vlcek is continuing his The Best Scene video series with a look at the opening action of director Zack Snyder‘s 2004 Dawn of the Dead remake (watch it Here). In the shadowy corners of the horror genre, where slashers and ghost stories reign supreme, there lurks a movie that’s been criminally overlooked. Enter Cry_Wolf, the 2005 teen thriller that cleverly played its audience like a fiddle. It’s time to rewind the tape, folks, and give this hidden gem the kudos it deserves. Though you may have missed it under the slasher ressurgence of the late 90s-early aughts, Cry_Wolf is not your run-of-the-mill post-Scream era slasher.
Cry_Wolf is a tangled web of truth, lies, and AOL Instant Messenger. The story kicks off with a group of prep school students who concoct a devious game: spreading a fake rumor about a serial killer to scare the entire student body. The game takes a dark turn when the fictional murders start happening in real life, and the game they invented is no longer in their control..

Sam Esmail’s years-in-the making adaptation of Fritz Lang’s classic 1927 sci-fi film Metropolis became one of the first major casualties of the 2023 Hollywood strikes. Seven weeks into the WGA work stoppage, the UCP studio, where Esmail has been under an overall deal, pulled the plug on the big-budget series, which had been prepping in Australia with a partial cast set, including Briana Middleton and Lindy Booth.
Because of the strike, Esmail could not comment on the cancellation at the time. He shared his reaction tonight on the red carpet for his upcoming Netflix movie Leave the World Behind starring Julia Roberts and Mahershala Ali.
“Obviously, it was heartbreaking,” he told Deadline. “But during the strike, we all understood. And I got to work with a lot of talented people out in Australia, where we were mounting the production. It was a really good experience, and I don’t regret it for a second.

A passion project for Mr. Robot creator Sam Esmail, the TV series Metropolis, inspired by the 1927 sci-fi classic directed by Fritz Lang, was officially ordered by Apple TV+ fifteen months ago. Earlier this year, Briana Middleton (Sharper) and Lindy Booth (The Librarians) were cast to star in the show. But now Deadline reports that Metropolis has been scrapped, becoming “one of the highest-profile casualties of the growing uncertainty in Hollywood” due to the writers strike.
Deadline has learned that Metropolis had been prepping for production in Australia, but has now been permanently shut down. “The crew was just notified that the ambitious project will not move forward with production, which had been targeting a summer start.” A representative for the production company UCP confirmed, “Push costs and uncertainty related to the ongoing strike led to this difficult decision.” They go on to note, “Metropolis had been in limbo for the past seven weeks.

Sam Esmail‘s (Mr. Robot) big-budget sci-fi series Metropolis, based on the 1927 Fritz Lang movie of the same name, has been scrapped amid the ongoing writers strike and rising production costs. Exclusive: Sam Esmail’s years-in-the making adaptation of Fritz Lang’s classic 1927 sci-fi film Metropolis has become one of the highest-profile casualties of the growing uncertainty in Hollywood driven by labor unrest against the background of economic headwinds.

UCP confirmed to Deadline that Metropolis has been scrapped. “Push costs and uncertainty related to the ongoing strike led to this difficult decision,” a rep for the studio said.
Metropolis had been in limbo for the past seven weeks. Since production drafts of the scripts for the large-scope, special effects-heavy series had not been finished before the May 2 start of the writers strike, that delayed setting budgets and other key elements of pre-production.

Turner’s TNT has renewed its hit fantasy-adventure series The Librarians for a fourth season.
The Librarians Season 3 Episode 10 finished up the series third season on January 22, 2017 with another exciting adventure.
A leftover from the former TNT regime, the show exudes joy while the characters engage in comedic escapades.
The fourth season is slated to begin later in 2017.
The series is based on TNT's hit movie franchise, which began with The Librarian: The Quest for the Spear in 2004 with Noah Wyle starring.
The third movie in the franchise aired in 2008, and Wyle was starring in Falling Skies when TNT gave the green light for The Librarians to begin airing in 2014.
It was an instant hit.

I was fortunate enough to get a brief one-on-one phone interview with Dean Devlin, who currently serves as the showrunner for The Librarians on TNT, and learned a bit about what he has in store for our world-saving, villain-defeating team of heroes.
The Librarians is a spin-off of a television movie series starring Noah Wyle, the first of which was released in 2004. (Mr. Wyle returned to the same role for the current television series in a recurring capacity, and has both written and directed episodes as well.)
The television series (which premiered in 2014) stars Rebecca Romijn, Christian Kane, Lindy Booth, John Kim, and John Larroquette as members of a team from The Library, and their job is to save the world from dangerous supernatural artifacts and deadly magic on the loose.
And sometimes stop the apocalypse.

While retrieving this week's MacGuffin, Cassandra and Jake encountered the titular Reunion of Evil in The Librarians Season 3 Episode 3. The attendees were, of course, Norse Frost Giants, much to the dismay of our heroes.
Naturally, this resulted in all sorts of hilarity and shenanigans as the two Librarians tried to blend in with this less-than-savory crowd.
"And the Reunion of Evil" was directed by none other than Noah Wyle (Flynn Carsen) himself, and he acquitted himself quite well behind the camera with this episode.
The real measure of any work — whether literature or a movie or an episode of television — is whether or not it entertains the viewers. And I confess to having a lot of fun with "And the Reunion of Evil." Was the premise silly? Sure. But I felt that they made it work.

TNT’s The Librarians shot out of the gates, and how could it not, and the network has finally announced a renewal.
Considering the numbers, this isn’t exactly a surprise. According to their own statement, it was the #2 basic cable show of the year, so bringing it back probably isn’t anything that fans were worried about… except that it kept not happening.
It isn’t actually a long time since the first season ended, but by today’s standards, it has been a bit of an odd wait. The delay is perhaps a hint at some behind-the-scenes uncertainty over contracts and schedules, especially in the case of Noah Wyle, who both is and isn’t a regular feature of the show, and who has other shows to do.
At any rate, you can rest easy. And, look for your chance to catch the show, if you haven’t already,...

[Spoiler Alert: This review contains a few spoilers, though I have tried to keep them to a minimum while still making this a viable review.]
When the first made-for-tv Librarian movie appeared in 2004 (The Librarian: Quest for the Spear), I watched it simply because it sounded so silly (and I also have a fondness for magic and fantasy). The premise is a normal metropolitan library under which is hidden a magical library containing not only rare (or mythical) books and manuscripts, but historical/magical (and religious) artifacts: the Ark of the Covenant, Excalibur, Pandora’s Box, even Noah’s Ark. This library -- which exists to protects these items, as well as protecting the general public from the wrong use of magic -- is overseen by Judson (Bob Newhart) and his assistant, Charlene (Jane Curtin). They hire a librarian whose job it is to go around the world either finding magical artifacts, or preventing those artifacts from falling into the wrong hands. The librarian is chosen for a combination of the breadth of his knowledge and intelligence,...
