Exclusive: Harry Potter star Tom Felton has boarded Gandhi, the Hansal Mehta-directed streaming series about the iconic Indian nonviolent resistance leader from Applause Entertainment.
Felton will play Josiah Oldfield, Gandhi’s first and best friend during a period he spent in London while studying law. Pratik Gandhi (no relation) is playing Gandhi, as we reported back in May 2022, and we can reveal his real-life partner, Bhamini Oza, will play Kasturba Gandhi, the Mahatma’s wife.
The period drama series has been billed as India’s answer to The Crown, and several scenes are being shot in London this month. As such, British actors James Murray, Jonno Davies, Molly Wright (Apostasy), Simon Lennon, Ralph Adeniyi, Libby Mai and Lindon Alexander are joining Felton in the cast.

Kashish Mumbai International Queer Film Festival 2014 will open with Michael Mayer’s Out in the Dark (Israel, Palestine, USA), a love story between an ambitious Palestinian student and an idealistic Israeli lawyer caught in a minefield of socio-political conflict.
The festival which will take place from May 21 – May 25 at Liberty Cinema, New Marine Lines and Alliance Française de Bombay; will screen around 154 films from 31 countries including shorts and features in both narrative and documentary category.
Twenty-eight Indian films will be screened at the festival. National Award winning director Ravi Jadhav’s Marathi short film Mitraa, based on Vijay Tendulkar’s play Mitrachi Goshta, will be screened on Saturday May 24, 4.45 pm at Liberty Cinema in a short film package ‘Indian Showcase’.

Mumbai, March 10: Pia Benegal, who has designed costumes for "Samvidhaan", a 10-part TV series directed by her father Shyam Benegal, says creating "period specific" costumes for it has been a painstaking process.
The TV series talks about the making of the Constitution of India.
Pia designed and created authentic costumes ranging from dhotis, kurtas, waistcoats, sherwanis, double breasted suits, long coats, saris and a variety of headgear for the show.
She says her brief was to design the costumes that were specific to the period when the Constitution was created.

"I had considered direction in the beginning. But the moment I decided to direct films, people started saying, 'So here comes another Shyam Benegal'," Pia, who chose to be a costume designer, told Ians.
"I don't think I could have made my own identity had I been a director. People would have always compared me to my father," she added.
Shyam Benegal, who has been active in filmdom for over five decades and went behind the camera to make short films, documentaries and movies, has an ouevre of work that boasts of highly acclaimed films such as "Bhumika",.
