Exclusive: Paramount Network has opted not to pick up a second season of comedic drama 68 Whiskey, an adaptation of the Israeli TV series Charlie Golf One.
The show, from Imagine Television Studios and CBS TV Studios, was well received with a 88% fresh Rotten Tomatoes rating. It also got off to a strong TV ratings start, with the January 15 premiere drawing 2 million viewers in Live+3 Nielsen numbers to mark the most-watched cable drama series premiere in the metric since November 2018. Following the promising premiere the ratings slipped, however, and overall the series ranked outside of the Top 100 in total viewers, adults 18-49 and 25-54 year-to-date (Live+3).
68 Whiskey‘s cancellation leaves powerhouse Yellowstone as Paramount Network’s only current original scripted series. The net’s dramedy Emily In Paris recently relocated to Netflix. Paramount Network earlier this year gave a series order to drama Coyote starring Michael Chiklis.

Ron Howard and Brian Grazer’s Paramount Network series, 68 Whiskey, will manifest as a military dramedy.
68 Whiskey is ready to make its mark as the next blue-chip television offering on the rebranded-from-Spike-tv and still-burgeoning Paramount Network, set as the first original series to accompany its hit drama, Yellowstone.
The series, an Americanized adaptation of Israeli television offering Charlie Golf One, is a modern military dramedy that arrives under the auspices of executive producers in Ron Howard and Brian Grazer. Of course, 68 Whiskey will immediately evoke the memory of M*A*S*H., since, like that classic series, it centers on the daily travails (and hijinks) of military combat medics – in this case stationed in Afghanistan. Imagine Television Studios and CBS Television Studios are producing the series.

As the film world’s awards season heats up, audiences are already anticipating new projects starring Sean Penn, Emma Stone, Julia Roberts, Jim Carrey, Toni Collette, Michael Douglas, and Benicio del Toro.
Of course, all of those projects happen to be TV series, and they’re part of what’s shaping up to be perhaps the most ambitious fall TV season ever. A lot has been made of TV’s current reboot/remake/reunion culture, and that’s definitely a trend this fall. Some of the season’s most anticipated new shows include CBS’ return to “Murphy Brown,” and what ABC has in store for “The Conners,” the spin-off of “Roseanne” that comes thanks to Twitter.
The fall also includes several adaptations, including Netflix’s “Chilling Adventures of Sabrina,” Amazon’s TV take on the successful podcast “Homecoming,” starring Roberts (and from Sam Esmail), and AMC’s next limited series...

If you’re tired of anti-heroes, Jim Carrey’s new Showtime series, “Kidding,” might be just what you’re looking for.
Writer and executive producer of the series, Dave Holstein, went into the project wanting to write a character that “didn’t want to break bad, but wanted to stay good,” he told reporters at the Television Critics Association summer 2018 press tour on Monday
“To me, it was less about finding a character whose journey was a nervous breakdown and more about coming off a show like ‘Weeds’ that’s full of anti-heroes, and having this sort of fatigue of characters who existed because they were… doing drugs or killing people,” he said.

In the new trailer for “Kidding,” Jim Carrey’s big return to TV after more than two decades, a Mr. Rogers-esque kids-tv personality is confronted with the darker side of life and is deeply unequipped for it.
The Showtime dramedy follows Carrey as Jeff, a.k.a. Mr. Pickles, a beloved children’s entertainer who sees his own life upended as his personal relationships begin to implode. It is set to premiere Sunday, September 9.
Throughout the season, Carrey’s character begins to push back against the limits of the well-oiled machine of his show, led by executive producer, Seb (Frank Langella). Seb fears Jeff’s mental state could ruin the branding empire they’ve built, and thus begins preparing the show for a life after Jeff.

“There’s a spark of greatness inside each and every one of us. In you, in me, there’s a lovely light, that can never go out.”
So begins the new trailer for Showtime’s Kidding released today at TCA. The premium cabler also unveiled the official posters for the half-hour comedy series starring Jim Carrey.
In his first series regular role in more than a decade, Carrey stars as Jeff, aka Mr. Pickles (Carrey), an icon of children’s television and a beacon of kindness and wisdom to America’s impressionable young minds and the parents who grew up with him. But when this beloved personality’s family begins to implode, Jeff finds no fairytale, fable or puppet will guide him through this crisis, which advances faster than his means to cope. The result: A kind man in a cruel world faces a slow leak of sanity as hilarious as it is heartbreaking.

Director Ron Howard (Solo: A Star Wars Story) has a new TV series in development called 68 Whiskey and the pilot was just picked up by Paramount Network.
The series is described as being a dark comedy and it's an adaptation of an Israeli TV series. The story follows "a multicultural mix of men and women deployed as Army medics to a forward operating base in Afghanistan nicknamed 'The Orphanage.' Together, they endure a dangerous and Kafkaesque world that leads to self-destructive appetites, outrageous behavior, intense camaraderie and occasionally, a profound sense of purpose."
The series was created by co-creator of The Brink, Roberto Benabib. and it sounds like it could make for an interesting series. It seems to me like it might have some similarities to the classic series M.A.S.H.

HBO’s new series “The Brink” is a dark comedy set in the world of U.S. government and foreign affairs. Creators/executive producers Roberto Benabib (“Weeds”) and Kim Benabib skewer those who vie, lust and live for power. With a strong cast led by Tim Robbins, Jack Black, Pablo Schreiber and Aasif Mandvi, “The Brink” aims to be closer in tone to “Dr. Strangelove” than “The West Wing,” and that bodes well for the rest of the season. Created by Kim and Roberto Benabib, the alleged political satire The Brink is a throwback to the early days of HBO, when the quality of the cable channel’s programming mattered less than the novelty of being able to show men on TV doing drugs, having sex with hookers, throwing F-bomb-laden insults at each other, and generally carrying on as if everything we were told of value was really just a big joke on the naïve, and that life was all about seizing power and getting laid, not necessarily in that order. It’s been a while since I’ve seen so much acting, writing, and directing talent, and such top-notch production values, expended on behalf of a show that makes such a weak impression. Set during the run-up to nuclear apocalypse, The Brink aims for the sort of ebullient-yet-scathing energy of In the Loop (or its American successor Veep,...

Adding to its already-impressive rotation of comedies, HBO has just released the first teaser for its upcoming series "The Brink", a dark comedy that centers on three disparate, desperate men who must work through the chaos surrounding them in order to save the planet from falling into World War III. The show, which debuts Sunday, June 21, stars Jack Black as lowly Foreign Service officer Alex Talbot, Tim Robbins as Secretary of State Walter Larson, and Pablo Schreiber as ace Navy fighter pilot Zeke Tilson, an unlikely team of men who band together to solve a geopolitical crisis in Pakistan. Aasif Mandvi, Maribeth Monroe, Eric Ladin, Esai Morales, and Geoff Pierson help round out the cast of "The Brink", which is executive produced by Jerry Weintraub, Roberto Benabib, and Jay Roach and was created by Roberto Benabib and Kim Benabib. While HBO is known to many for hour-long dramas such as Game of Thrones and True Detective, the channel has also developed a number of half-hour comedies over the years, most notably the Mike Judge technology comedy Silicon Valley and the Armando Iannucci political satire Veep. They have also, over the years, been known to draw in high-profile performers to star in their shows, two traits that once again show up in their upcoming half-hour show The Brink.
The series is created by Weeds and Ally McBeal writer Roberto Benabib in conjunction with his brother Kim Benabib, a newcomer to the television landscape. The Brink stars Tim Robbins, Jack Black, Aasif Mandvi, and Pablo Schreiber, and the show’s synopsis is as follows.
Top U.S. government and military scramble to prevent World War 3 from happening amidst the chaos of a geopolitical crisis.
HBO’s detailed description about the series is as follows.
