Exclusive: Monarch Media, 11-time Emmy winner Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Point Grey Pictures, Lylas Pictures and Giant Ant Films are teaming to bring Sarah Leavitt’s graphic novel Tangles: A Story About Alzheimer’s, My Mother and Me, to the big screen as a feature-length animated film.
Along with Louis-Dreyfus, the cast includes Abbi Jacobson, Bryan Cranston, Samira Wiley, Beanie Feldstein, Seth Rogen, Wanda Sykes, Bowen Yang, Pamela Adlon and Sarah Silverman.
In Tangles, when Alzheimer’s disease begins to strip away her mother’s vibrant personality, a headstrong young woman is forced to return to her oddball family in the conservative small town she recently fled in order to care for her. She quickly realizes she must accept the cruel and warped reality of the disease — and the imperfect beauty of her family — in order to become the daughter they need.
Leavitt adapted her novel for film along with Trev Renney and Leah Nelson.

If you’ve noticed a lot of music documentaries hitting your favorite platforms, that groundswell is driven by record companies like Universal Music Group looking for ways to invigorate their catalogues. So it makes perfect sense that a musician’s son like Hollywood super-producer Frank Marshall — who has long been Hollywood’s fave party DJ, worked on Martin Scorsese’s The Band documentary “The Last Waltz,” and plays a mean guitar — would move into the space.
Marshall has directed a few features over the years and started producing non-fiction series and features before moving into directing with “The Bee Gees: How Can You Mend a Broken Heart” and “Carole King & James Taylor: Just Call Out My Name.”
There’s no question Marshall can afford to do whatever he wants with his time. He still devotes his day job to shepherding the latest “Jurassic World” and “Indiana Jones” sequels, and feeds...

There’s a theory dubbed “nominative determinism,” a fancy name to describe people who gravitate to jobs that fit their names. You could hardly find a better example than the man who has sat alongside a mixing console and vinyl lathe in one of the basement studios in the Capitol Records tower for more than three decades.
“What better name for a mastering engineer than… Ron McMaster!” says Ben Blackwell, the co-founder of Third Man Records, who has worked with the veteran on several projects. “Look up his credit on the Demolition Doll Rods’ first album — it’s my favorite listing on a record ever.” A quick scan of the credits reveals the listing burned into Blackwell’s memory: “Masterfully Mastered by the Master at Tower Mastering — Ron McMaster.”

At one point, Ron McMaster, Capitol Studios’ renowned vinyl mastering engineer, was thinking about retiring because he wasn’t busy enough. Now, at last, he’s really and truly retiring… because he’s too busy.
McMaster, 69, revealed his plans to Variety on the eve of invitations going out for a July 12 retirement party in the Capitol tower that promises to draw bold-faced names that usually appear higher in the album credits than his own. A favorite of producers like Don Was and T Bone Burnett, he has cut LPs for the Beach Boys, Rolling Stones, Radiohead and virtually the entire vintage Blue Note catalog.

Fox 2000 has acquired "The Fixer," a film starring Jennifer Aniston as former Miss USA contestant Denise White who rose to the top of the male-dominated world of professional sports management.
"Dallas Buyers Club" screenwriter Melisa Wallack created the pitch for the project which the studio acquired, along with White's life rights and a Men's Journal article "The Woman Who Bails Out The NFL's Bad Boys".
White became famous for establishing herself as a unflagging defender of her high-profile clients when their public images were in serious jeopardy.
There has been very early preliminary talks about James Gray possibly directing, but that seems too early to call. Aniston, Kristin Hahn, Steve Barnett and Bernie Goldmann will produce through Echo Films.

Mindwarp, a post-apocalyptic, sci-fi gore film produced by Fangoria Magazine in 1992, is a cup half-full, cup half-empty proposition. In the plus column, it stars Bruce Campbell (The Evil Dead) and Angus Scrimm (Phantasm), two genre icons who give it their all no matter how low-budget or poorly conceived the film around them happens to be. And despite being the brainchild of a publication dedicated to glorifying the grossest moments in movie history, Mindwarp surprisingly chooses to emphasize ideas over shock effects.
Yet there’s no mistaking Mindwarp for anything other than an ambitious copycat slogging through the direct-to-video ditches. And it’s an odd release choice for Twilight Time, who usually focus on lesser known but more widely respected classics from studio back catalogs. But for those with an affection for the material – or Bruce Campbell in particular, who never quite got a fair chance at being a big-screen action...

With Iron Man 2 still months away from release, a new photo and video have made their way online. The latest photo depicts Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark inside his race car right before Stark meets Mickey Rourke's Whiplash, as revealed in the latest trailer and other photos.
The trailer is also augmented by AC/DC's "Shoot To Thrill," and for good reason. The Australian rockers are releasing an album called AC/DC: Iron Man 2, which is a collection of the group's greatest hits. In a statement about the record's release, co-chairman of Columbia Records Steve Barnett explained why AC/DC and Iron Man 2 are suddenly connected.
Jon Favreau's vision and passion for AC/DC's music blend seamlessly into this incredible film. The music really underscores the high energy and excitement of the film.

After spurning compilation albums for nearly 40 years, the Aussie veteran rockers are to finally issue a best of ... named after the superhero sequel
AC/DC are to release a greatest hits collection – they're just calling it the soundtrack to Iron Man 2. The forthcoming superhero sequel will be filled with hard-rocking anthems by the Australian band, albeit without a single new song.
Due on 19 April, about a month before Robert Downey Jr lands in cinemas in his red and gold suit, the AC/DC: Iron Man 2 album includes 15 tracks from 10 different albums. These songs range from 1976 single TNT to the 2008 track War Machine, which happens to be the name of a character played by Don Cheadle. Though the soundtrack album only features AC/DC songs, Iron Man 2 does also have an original score, composed by John Debney.

TORONTO -- The dead have risen. In a sale that once seemed as slow as a zombie, Weinstein Co. stepped up and bought North American and Mexican rights to "George A. Romero's Diary of the Dead" for $2 million-$2.5 million.
The latest sequel to Romero's 1968 horror classic "Night of the Living Dead" closed Tuesday night after several offers were considered, including some for video-only distribution. The Weinstein Co. deal includes a theatrical commitment.
While R-rated horror movies didn't perform well at the boxoffice earlier this summer, the Weinstein Co.'s "Halloween", released by MGM, bucked the trend with a record-breaking Labor Day opening. "Dead" premiered late Saturday in the Midnight Madness section at Toronto and spooked out crowds.
The Artfire Films/Romero-Grunwald Prods. film was written and directed by Romero, produced by Peter Grunwald, Art Spigel, Sam Englebardt and Ara Katz, and executive produced by Dan Fireman, John Harrison and Steve Barnett.
Cinetic Media repped the filmmakers in the sale.
