Luc Besson's "The Fifth Element" might be the daffiest Hollywood sci-fi flick ever made (at least until Besson made the even daffier "Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets" 20 years later). The film had movie-star insurance in Bruce Willis, and the trailers promised a surfeit of futuristic eye candy, but what exactly was this zany-looking movie about?
The film may be visually cluttered, but its premise is fairly simple. Every 5,000 years, a force of tremendous evil emerges out of space and tries to destroy Earth. Fortunately, an alien race known as the Mondoshawns and a clandestine religious order are in possession of the only weapon that can repel this evil. This weapon consists of four stones which represent the five classical elements of earth, wind, fire, water, and Philip Bailey. Actually, the fifth element is a humanoid named Leelo, and, as embodied by Milla Jovovich, she is a lethal warrior,...

Ellie Goulding appeared on The Tonight Show to perform her latest song “Easy Lover” — “one of my favorites,” host Jimmy Fallon said — on Tuesday night.
The track — which is not a cover of the Phil Collins & Philip Bailey classic of the same name — is the first single off Goulding’s upcoming album, the follow-up to 2020’s Brightest Blue. (While the studio version boasts a guest version by Big Sean, the rapper did not appear on The Tonight Show to deliver his verse.)

Beating the odds, Jason Sudeikis (“Ted Lasso”) won his second Emmy on Monday night in the Best Comedy Actor category. He was predicted to be bested by his old “Saturday Night Live” co-star Bill Hader (“Barry”), but managed to pull off the win. This is Sudeikis’ second consecutive acting trophy for playing the titular football coach on the Apple TV Plus hit comedy. Besides Hader, Sudeikis also beat out Steve Martin (“Only Murders in the Building”), Martin Short (“Only Murders in the Building”), Donald Glover (“Atlanta”) and Nicholas Hoult (“The Great”).
His episode submission this year was “No Weddings and a Funeral,” the 10th episode of the season. Maurice White, co-founder and front man of the iconic Earth, Wind & Fire passed away in his sleep in Los Angeles this morning, his brother Verdine White told the press. White was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in the early 1990s, and though he remained involved in the group throughout the rest of his life, he had not toured with them since 1994. Kate Bush has sent out a message of support to an axed contestant on The Voice UK.
Liam Tamne lost out to John Pritchard in the Battle Round on Saturday's (May 25) show, after they sang a version of Phil Collins and Philip Bailey's 'Easy Lover'.
will.i.am had previously picked Tamne for his team after he sang Kate Bush's song 'This Woman's Work'.
On her website, Bush wrote that she was "sad" about Tamne's exit and wished him luck for the future.
"I was sad to see that Liam didn't get through on The Voice this week. It must be so tough for all the performers who don't stay in the show," she said.
"Liam, you mustn't be disheartened. You really have a special talent and you're a fantastic singer. You've already been heard and appreciated by a huge audience.
"Try not to be too disappointed. Just keep going.

It was, like, totally '80s week Monday night on ABC's "Dancing With The Stars."
The show opened with the Bangles performing a quick medley of "Eternal Flame" and "Walk Like an Egyptian" before the remaining celebrities kicked off their performances. Some of the stars grabbed their highest scores of the season, others (like constant score leader Ricki Lake) dropped a bit in rankings.
Here's how everyone fared:
Hope Solo and Maksim Chmerkovskiy
The athlete was assigned the tango this week, and the twosome danced to Bon Jovi's "Livin' on a Prayer." The judges found the routine to be strong, sexy and powerful. "Tango is about action and reaction. Hope: You were too willowy. You're too willowy in the body. I don't know how Maks controls you. Having said that, I like...

A female will win this season of American Idol. I'm calling it right now.
Will it be Crystal Bowersox, as my colleague Mr. Probst favor?
What about Didi Benami, who co-critic L.J. Gibbs stands behind?
Both are solid choices, but both (along with Lilly Scott and Janell Wheeler) are serene guitar players, obvious Taylor Swift clones, that will cancel each other out. Who will leave standing?
Ashley Rodriguez. This Boston native has the looks and talent to go all the way. She also possesses the experience, having actually sung at the Berklee Performance Center with artists such as Philip Bailey and Chaka Kahn.
Watch her Hollywood audition below and just try to make a case against Rodriguez:

Leonard Cohen and producer/composer David Foster will be inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame as part of the class of 2010. The 75-year-old "Bird on the Wire" singer has endured a difficult few months after collapsing onstage in Spain in 2009 and postponing a string of European concerts in early February to recover from a sports-related injury, but he will be saluted by the prestigious organization this summer, when he joins Foster and Earth Wind and Fire's members Maurice White, Philip Bailey and Verdine White among the songwriting inductees.
Jackie DeShannon, Johnny Mandel, Larry Dunn and Al McKay will also be honored at the gala. Hall of Fame chairman Hal David says, "Our 2010 inductees are truly representational of the heart and soul of the world's popular music soundtrack. We are looking forward to another memorable evening, where we honor their extraordinary accomplishments."
