Jack Rooke’s sitcom Big Boys returns to Channel 4 in January, and the details of the new run have landed.
Big Boys, Jack Rooke’s autobiographical sitcom about his experience at university, was one of the comedic treats of last year.
Derry Girls’ Dylan Llewellyn and Jon Pointing play two disparate young men, Jack and Danny, who find themselves as roommates in their first year of University. The former is closeted and sensitive, the latter is full of boorish bonhomie, but despite their differences they form a touching, tender bond, and Rooke’s writing covers everything from Jack exploring his sexuality to Danny’s mental health.
It proved a hit for Channel 4, which didn’t waste an awful lot of time in ordering up more episodes. Those episodes are nearly with us, too.
What’s more, we now have a synopsis for series two, which reads as follows:

This post contains spoilers for "Ted Lasso" season 3.
"Ted Lasso" season 3 has just come to an end, leaving the fictional team of AFC Richmond at a crossroads after their head coach leaves his fish-and-chips-out-of-water life in London behind. Overall, the supposedly last season of the Apple TV+ phenomenon left a lot to be desired, failing to live up to the high points of the first two seasons where the jokes that hit far outweighed the ones that fell flat. While a lot of the episodes in season 3 felt overly long and unnecessarily melodramatic, the overall spirit of the show managed to stay intact thanks to Jason Sudeikis' naively positive "aw shucks" attitude as Ted.
Ted isn't only a sports fan, he's a pop culture aficionado raised on Thursday night primetime sitcoms from the '80s. Throughout its entire run, "Ted Lasso" has peppered in a number of clever references to the golden years of U.

There will be “optimism … and biscuits.” Starring Jason Sudeikis, Hannah Waddingham, and Juno Temple, Ted Lasso returned for its third — and possibly final — season earlier this March, with the season finale airing this week on Apple TV+.
The Emmy-winning sports comedy once again kicked off on Apple TV+ for its third installment in March, picking up with Coach Lasso (Sudeikis), new assistant coach Roy Kent (Brett Goldstein) and the entire AFC Richmond crew returning to the pitch for a new season.

It’s been a tough time in Hollywood and beyond as the Writers Guild strike shut down production of just about every kind of entertainment — and lots of parties and events, too. Canceled/postponed celebrations included the MTV Movie & TV Awards, the 49th AFI Lifetime Achievement Award: A Tribute to Nicole Kidman, the Critics Choice Inaugural Celebration of LGBTQ+ Cinema & Television and many others.
But music festivals like the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival marked the early beginning of summer fest season and Netflix helped launch Pride Month early with a huge “All Out” celebration in West Hollywood. Meanwhile, “The Little Mermaid” swam into Hollywood for a lavish premiere and SeriesFest: Chapter 9 took over Denver. So all is not lost in the world of Parties & Premieres, but we sure hope that Hollywood writers get the raises they deserve and go back to work very soon.

Doctor Who script editor Scott Handcock has teased the return of a past guest star in the forthcoming Christmas special.
This year’s festive period will see Sex Education star Ncuti Gatwa take over as the 15th Time Lord in the long-running saga.
He’ll be joined by Coronation Street actor Millie Gibson, who was announced as the new companion during Children in Need in November.
While there’ll be plenty of new faces, Handcock has said that a character from 2005 will make a return.
“As we get into the second week of our Christmas Special shoot, a guest star from 2005 returns; one of our writers delivers their fourth draft of a script for Block Three; a hero prop gets its first unveiling in a Block Three tone meeting, and Block Four director Ben Chessell starts work with the crew in Cardiff,” the script editor wrote in the latest issue of Doctor Who Magazine.

"Ted Lasso" is truly one of the most beloved shows to come around in quite some time, and even though the show just might be calling it quits after the current third season, its legacy will live on for years to come. For super fans of the series, a unique opportunity has emerged as a select few will have the chance to stay at The Crown & Anchor Pub that was made famous by the Apple TV+ series. Yes, really.
As reported by People, "Ted Lasso" star Annette Badland will be on hand for the experience, which will be taking place in October through Airbnb. The actual pub is named The Prince's Head but, for all intents and purposes, it will be The Crown & Anchor during this trip that three groups of up to four people will get to experience. Badland promises that the pub will be "just as [fans have] seen it on the series.

It’s transfer time for Phil Dunster, who has played AFC Richmond’s star striker Jamie Tartt on the Emmy-winning comedy drama Ted Lasso for three seasons. The actor is joining Gugu Mbatha-Raw on Season 2 of her psychological thriller Surface, Breaking Baz can reveal.
Both Ted Lasso and Surface are part of the Apple TV+ universe.
Surface launched on the streamer last summer and audiences were intrigued with the tale created by Veronica West (High Fidelity) about a woman called Sophie (played by Mbatha-Raw) who has amnesia after a suicide attempt in San Francisco.
Sophie is a medical professional and resides in a swanky house in a tony district of San Francisco. The Hitchcockian mystery of it all is: If Sophie’s life was so seemingly perfect, why did she try to end it by jumping from a boat into the ocean?

Can you Believe that season 3 of Ted Lasso is right around the corner? Apple TV+’s feel-good, fish-out-of-water sports comedy that inexplicably began life as a series of commercials for NBC Sports has become maybe the most beloved new show of the 2020s. Jason Sudeikis’ mustached titular character is a beaming light of optimism and a balm in increasingly depressing times.
Season 2 found the overmatched football coach struggling with his mental health and unresolved trauma from his youth while the AFC Richmond squad battled to get promoted back into the Premier League. The season ended with Richmond successfully ascending to the top flight of English football, but in the process, the team lost “wonder kid” coach Nate (Nick Mohammed), who after feeling neglected by Ted all season defected to West Ham United, now owned by Rupert Mannion, the ex-husband of Hannah Waddingham’s delightful Rebecca Welton.

Warning: contains spoilers for Inside No. 9 episode ‘Mr King’.
They didn’t burn him! Drowned, strangled and dismembered, yes, but Class 9 of Man Sancta Ysgol stopped short of going full The Wicker Man on poor Mr Curtis – ex-primary teacher, current human bean. What a delightfully nasty ending that was, a human sacrifice in Pritt Stick, doilies and crepe paper, conducted by beaming cherubs dinging triangles in happy contemplation of bloodshed to come.
More surprising perhaps than this episode’s denouement was that it’s taken until now for Inside No. 9 to offer up an entry for the folk horror canon. Why the wait? Given its creators’ previous work, this modern-day tribute to Robin Hardy’s sinister seventies classic and the likes of The Blood on Satan’s Claw felt overdue.

Warning: contains spoilers for Inside No. 9 series six.
In series six, Inside No. 9 pulled off a diamond heist, explored obsessive geek fandom, framed a cuckold in an international conspiracy, let a grotesque true crime bleed from reality to fiction and back again, made a deal with the devil, and killed Jesus. Where, one might well ask, next?
Anywhere it wants, is the answer to that question. The BBC Two anthology series can float from location to location, story to story, unhampered by the need to put down roots in any one place. Series seven brings half a dozen brand new films to screen, scored by composer Christian Henson, and each one as different as the last.
The official synopsis describes the new episodes as taking us “from the Welsh valleys to an abandoned house, from kidnappers to detectives, and from a day trip out in a pedalo to a public information film.

Last year, the “Ted Lasso” ensemble were recognized by the Screen Actors Guild for their inaugural season, but only star Jason Sudeikis earned an individual notice. Now, the show has received the same two nominations, as well as three more for the performances of Brett Goldstein, Juno Temple, and Hannah Waddingham. At 32, Temple has the potential to become one of the comedy actress category’s youngest winners, after America Ferrera, Rachel Brosnahan, and Helen Hunt. She would also be the third English champ, after Tracey Ullman and Phoebe Waller-Bridge.
Aside from Waddingham, Temple’s comedy actress challengers are Elle Fanning (“The Great”), Sandra Oh (“The Chair”), and Jean Smart (“Hacks”). All five are new to the category, with Fanning’s only previous bid having been against Temple and Waddingham in last year’s ensemble contest. Wendy Morgan‘s animal welfare docu-drama “Mercy” has been picked up by Los Angeles-based distributor All Channel Films, Inc. With humans standing in for animals, “Mercy” lifts the lid on the more unpalatable side of the meat industry as told though the eyes of a pig named Mercy as she goes from a factory farm to a slaughterhouse. Maria Austin (“The Reverend and Mrs. Simpson”) plays Mercy alongside Annette Badland (“Ted Lasso”), Mark Wingett (“Quadrophenia”) and Morgan (“Mrs. Lowry and Son”), who wrote and directed the film.

Apple TV+’s Ted Lasso just dropped an episode unlike any other — and you probably have a few questions.
In Season 2, Episode 9, titled “Beard After Hours,” the assistant coach (played by the series’ Emmy-nominated co-creator Brendan Hunt) set out on an all-night odyssey through London to clear his head following that devastating loss to Manchester City. Along the way, Beard snuck into an elite club populated by pompous British scholars; fled a seductress’ flat and made a death-defying jump to escape her seemingly menacing boyfriend; engaged in fisticuffs with Jamie Tartt’s street-tough father; and took center stage at an underground rave,...

Ted Lasso the show might be named after Jason Sudeikis‘s optimistic coach, but another one is taking center stage in the latest episode, “Beard After Hours.” Emmy-nominee Brendan Hunt gives viewers a better look at his eccentric Coach Beard who is in a sore spot following A.F.C. Richmond’s semifinal loss at Wembley in the previous installment. Preparing to drown his sorrows over the loss, Beard takes a seat at his and Ted’s local haunt, The Crown & Anchor in an exclusive sneak peek clip, above. (Credit: Apple TV+) After having seemingly grabbed a pint from Mae (Annette Badland) at the bar, Beard is approached by the pub’s trio of regulars Jeremy (Bronson Webb), Baz (Adam Colborne), and Paul (Kevin “Kg” Garry) who show concern for the coach. “Dropped your keys,” Jeremy says, holding them up to Beard before Baz notes how poorly the Wembley match went.

Robin’s out of one trap but has she jumped straight into another? That cab driver wasn’t played by just anybody – behind the wheel was Annette Badland, a British TV face as recognisable as they come. Names like Badland’s aren’t cast to deliver wry one-liners and then disappear, which suggests that Robin’s being driven away by someone of significance in this story, a latecomer with skin in the game.
It’s a complex game, with a growing cast of characters. The investigation into the Chiswells drew yet more players out of the woodwork in the form of Torquil and Fizzy, new players with their own agendas following the death of Jasper. Between Izzy and Raff and Kimvara and dead Freddie and the new arrivals, it’s becoming a headache to keep track of who everybody is, who they might want murdered,...

The cable channel has often given quick renewals but the series are then often cancelled after two seasons. Will Starz regret giving Outlander a second year order so soon? Would it have been cancelled if they had waited?

From the Queen Vic to the Tardis. As Eastenders prepares to mark its 30th anniversary, we look back at its encounters with Doctor Who...
Back in the mid-eighties an actor who played "Third Assistant" in a Doctor Who story called The Savages (1966) and the director of another Doctor Who adventure, The Underwater Menace (1967), came together to create one of the BBC’s most successful television shows.
And when they got together, it was murder. Well, not quite. (Though the first episode did feature a victim who would later die, fact fans.) But what they did create was Eastenders.
Broadcast on February the 19th 1985 (in between episodes one and two of The Two Doctors), this creation of Who alumni would go on to share numerous links with the long-running science-fiction for years to come. Even its time-slot owes much to the adventures of everyone’s favourite Gallifreyan.

3.5 & 3.6 Daughters Of Stone
It’s never easy to follow the departure of a major character, and with Benny having left in the previous episode Daughters Of Stone knows it has some big shoes to fill from the outset. So it’s perhaps not that surprising when Tom’s sometime-girlfriend Katie asks him to come and help out with an apparent haunting at the theatre looked after by her grandad. It’s even less surprising when, exactly ten minutes in, she witnesses Tom performing magic for the first time and the veil drops from her eyes.
As a character to replace Benny, Katie makes complete sense. Manpreet Bambra hasn’t always had a lot to work with on the show, but over three years she’s established...

So farewell then, Benny Sherwood.
At the series launch event in October, executive producer Phil Ford promised that there would be some shocks this series, and they don’t come much bigger than the departure of one of the series’ two lead actors.
Benny has always been Wizards Vs Aliens’ genius-in-residence, and so it makes sense that sooner or later MIT would decide to snatch him away from King’s Park High to join their ‘Gifted Young People’ programme. Of course, before he’s able to head off to America he and Tom have to deal with an old enemy and a fiendish plot to take over the world…

At the end of last week’s “Outlander,” Claire (Caitriona Balfe) had to face the reality that she wasn’t going to be returning to the 20th century any time soon, locked in the dungeons by a suspicious Colum (Gary Lewis). This week’s episode begins with a flashback (or forward?) to Claire’s departure from Frank (Tobias Menzies) for wartime. She promises to return, and although she does that time, it seems especially poignant given she may never actually return to him now. We cut to Claire’s morning bath and preparation with the assistance of Mrs. Fitz (Annette Badland) and it’s a far [...]

Last week’s “Outlander” set up the story and characters so that this week we can really dive into the adventure. It begins with Claire (Caitriona Balfe) still in the company of the clansmen as they arrive at Castle Leoch. Her presence is a topic of intrigue for those to whom they’ve returned. She’s taken in by Mrs. Fitz (Annette Badland) who gets her fed and offers kindness. Claire then sets to work on Jamie’s (Sam Heughan) wound to make sure it doesn’t get infected, or “inflamed”.
