Perry Mason is back on the case. Season 2 of HBO’s reimagined take on the classic legal drama premieres Monday, March 6, with Matthew Rhys again stepping into the title role. The Americans star has said he didn’t watch Raymond Burr’s iconic take on the character before season 1, which aired in 2020. But for many TV viewers, Burr is Perry Mason. The actor played the crusading defense attorney from 1957 to 1966, and again in a series of TV movies from the mid-80s through the early ‘90s.
Burr’s run as Perry Mason ended with this death in 1993. But are any other original Perry Mason cast members still alive?

The Bat
Blu-ray
The Film Detective
1959 / 1.85: 1 / 80 Min.
Starring Agnes Moorehead, Vincent Price
Written by Crane Wilbur
Directed by Crane Wilbur
Crane Wilbur’s The Bat is a murder mystery starring Agnes Moorehead and Vincent Price—but the real mystery is how Hollywood managed to pair these diabolically funny entertainers in only one film. They shared little to no screen time in 1951’s The Adventures of Captain Fabian and 1957’s The Story of Mankind, but in Wilbur’s mild-mannered horror show, Moorehead and Price are toe to toe—and generate enough chemistry for a dozen lovably corny crime thrillers just like The Bat.
Despite Price’s presence it’s Moorehead’s show; she plays Cornelia Van Gorder, a prolific mystery writer in the mode of Mary Roberts Rinehart—who, not coincidentally, wrote The Circular Staircase, the source material for the The Bat. As the no-nonsense Van Gorder, Moorehead’s steely...

Since forming more than four decades ago, the Cure’s personal lyrics, dreamlike compositions and gothy image helped them establish a dedicated, cult-like fanbase. Despite these clear contributions to rock — not to mention gold and platinum records on both side of the Atlantic and megahits like “Lovesong” and “The Love Cats” — it’s taken 15 years and one failed bid in 2012 for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame to recognize them with an induction.

Just last week, Anderson revealed on Facebook that he had terminal cancer. Despite the diagnosis, he wrote, “

The Film Detective Archives refurbishes the forgotten 1959 film version of The Bat, an adaptation of a play by Depression era mystery writer Mary Roberts Rhinehart (co-written with Avery Hopwood in 1920), a woman referred to as the American Agatha Christie. A previous film version was made in 1926 by Roland West, followed by a 1930 sequel. Concerning a criminal who dresses in a bat costume and terrorizes people while committing crimes, Rhinehart’s character was the basis for American comic book artist Bob Kane’s creation of Batman. Thus, it’s an intriguing ‘origin’ property for several reasons. This particular version, which stands as the last official directorial credit of writer and B-film director Crane Wilbur, is also rather entertaining thanks to its two headlining stars, the inimitable Vincent Price and a rare leading role for the superb character actress, Agnes Moorehead.

This is the DVD/Blu-ray review for Tracker, directed by Ian Sharp and starring Ray Winstone, Temuera Morrison, Gareth Reeves, Mark Mitchinson, Daniel Musgrove and Andy Anderson. Following the Boer war, former South African farmer Arjan van Diemen (Ray Winstone) lands in New Zealand looking to start a new life. He’s had enough of war and is still grieving the loss of his wife and daughters. Almost immediately he’s drawn into a new drama. A Maori man, Kereama (Temuera Morrison) is falsely accused of killing a British soldier, fleeing into the New Zealand wilderness. Given van Diemen’s superior tracking skills, local army man Major Carlysle (Gareth Reeves) recruits him to track the fugitive. Van Diemen successfully locates the Kereama and forces him to return to face justice. However, the Maori continues to plead his innocence – claims which eventually begin to work their way under the God-fearing van Diemen’s skin.

Thor (12A)
(Kenneth Branagh, 2011, Us) Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Tom Hiddleston, Anthony Hopkins, Kat Dennings, Idris Elba. 114 mins
Let the silly season commence with this expensive comic-book movie, which takes full advantage of its second-tier superhero, free casting rein and Asgard-sized budget to deliver some premium disposable spectacle. Hemsworth's beefy, impetuous thunder god is literally brought down to earth, where thanks to mortal hotties like Portman, he learns there's more to life than swinging a hammer around, but not much more.
Cedar Rapids (15)
(Miguel Arteta, 2011, Us) Ed Helms, John C Reilly, Anne Heche. 87 mins
The corruption of Helms's naive smalltown nerd via a debauched midwest insurance convention is as broadly amusing as you'd expect, striking a filthy-sweet tone somewhere between the Us Office and The Hangover.

The first known American victim of the March 11 earthquake and tsunami has been identified, according to MSNBC. Taylor Anderson's family apparently learned the news early Monday (March 21).
"It is with deep regret that we inform you that earlier this morning we received a call from the U.S. Embassy in Japan that they had found our beloved Taylor's body," the Anderson family says in a statement. "We would like to thank all those (whose) prayers and support have carried us through this crisis. Please continue to pray for all who remain missing and for the people of Japan."
Anderson, a Richmond, Va. native and school teacher, who had been living in Japan since 2008, was last seen leaving the school where she teaches and heading home on her bike. Before leaving, she helped students to get home after the earthquake. It is believed that she was caught in the resulting tsunami.
