Joss Ambler(1900-1959)

Joss Ambler
Born in Melbourne, Australia, Joss Ambler was a character actor who played usually small parts in British B - and occasionally A movies ('The Citadel', 'The Half Way House', 'The Captain's Paradise'...). Serious-looking, mustached and bespectacled he more often than once found himself in the shoes of no-nonsense characters such as police inspectors, officers or chiefs, doctors, managers, judges, auctioneers and teachers. His civil-servant looks did not stop him from marrying American actress June Lang. After divorcing her he married Irene, who had been a WAAF in World War Two. The couple lived happily in London but had no children. Joss Ambler died too early, in 1959.
