David Jacobs, the celebrated creator of hit ’80s TV series “Dallas” and “Knots Landing”, has died. He was 84.
Jacob’s son confirmed to multiple outlets on Tuesday that his father died on Aug. 20, at Providence St. Joseph Medical Center in Burbank, California, from complications due to Alzheimer’s.
Jacobs left an indelible mark on the TV landscape when he created the primetime soap opera “Dallas” — which went on to run for 14 seasons — as well as the wildly popular spin-off series “Knots Landing”, which aired for 14 seasons as well.
Jacobs is also known for co-creating the Western drama series “Paradise”, alongside Robert Porter, which ran from 1988-1991.
Apart from his work as a TV writer, he also served as an executive producer on a number of shows, including “Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman” and “Homefront” — the latter of which earned Jacobs two back-to-back Emmy nominations in 1992 and 1993.

Soap Opera Digest exclusively reported on September 23 that “The Young and the Restless” will be seeing a familiar face in Genoa City this fall: Judith Chapman will reprise her role as Gloria, the mother of the often dysfunctional siblings Michael Baldwin (Christian LeBlanc) and Kevin Fisher (Greg Rikaart). Are you excited for her to reunite with her sons?
Gloria was introduced to “Y&r” in 2004 when she was played by “Knots Landing” alum Joan Van Ark. But after a year Chapman stepped in to fill Gloria’s shoes until her last appearance on the show almost exactly two years ago in October 2018. She should be a proud mama since the actors who play her sons are both Daytime Emmy winners, though surprisingly Chapman herself has not been nominated despite more than a decade in the role.

An obsession with beauty is how Rachel M. Timmons would put it when asking what happened to Joan Van Ark since it’s hard not comment upon the appearance of the former Knots Landing actresses who was at one point one of the biggest knockouts on the show and a very successful actress. The downfall of beauty however is that with time and age it fades and while some people age gracefully and take it in stride no matter how it happens, others don’t want to accept that jowls might hang a bit, skin might sag, and certain body parts might
