“Sabrina the Teenage Witch” is a certified Criterion title, believe it or not.
The beloved franchise about a beloved occult teen, iconically played by Melissa Joan Hart, is officially amongst the new streaming selections for the Criterion Channel. “Sabrina the Teenage Witch” centered on Sabrina (Hart), a high school student who lives with her two aunts Hilda (Caroline Rhea) and Zelda (Beth Broderick) as she navigates coming into her powers. Her cat Salem (Frank Conniff) also provides snarky spiritual guidance.
The ABC-produced franchise was based on the comic book series that debuted in 1971. The “Sabrina the Teenage Witch” show is available to stream on Paramount+ as of 2023.
The 1996 TV movie was a spinoff of the TV series, and was followed by 1998’s “Sabrina Goes to Rome” and 1999’s “Sabrina Down Under.”
Now, “Sabrina the Teenage Witch” joins Criterion’s “Witches” programming for October 2024, ushering in the 40-year anniversary of the Criterion platform.

I have good news for fellow “Phineas and Ferb” fans! More episodes of the show are coming, and those episodes will be like a Season 5, taking place the summer after the original series.
During a Disney Television Animation presentation at the Annecy International Film Festival, called “40 Years of Disney Television Animation: Past, Present and Future,” the original show creators of “Phineas and Ferb,” Dan Povenmire and Jeff Marsh, discussed the plans for the new 40-episode series.
In the discussion, we learned that the new episodes will take place one year after the first four seasons, and they are trying to make the new episodes feel as close to the original episodes as possible, which is smart.
Originally “Phineas and Ferb” ran on the Disney Channel from 2007 – 2015.
The new series will feature returning and new writers for the show. Bringing in a fresh batch of ideas!

It’s a bird! It’s a plane! No… it’s television’s favorite teenage witch Sabrina Spellman (Melissa Joan Hart)! April 24 marks the 20th anniversary of the series finale of the sitcom Sabrina, the Teenage Witch, and we’re feeling nostalgic. The series follows Sabrina after she finds out she comes from a long line of witches on her 16th birthday. She is sent to the fictional town of Westbridge, Massachusetts to live with her two aunts, Hilda (Caroline Rhea) and Zelda (Beth Broderick), and their wisecracking cat Salem (voiced by Nick Bakay). Throughout the series, Sabrina has to juggle her newfound witch identity with her mortal life. Kooky antics ensue as Sabrina frequently turns to magic as a way of dealing with first loves, high school bullies, and academic pressure. The beloved show of the ’90s and early 2000s aired 163 episodes over seven seasons. That’s a lot of spells,...

Kelly Ripa has spent 22 years as the host of a single daytime talk show, now earning a salary in the range of $20 million a year. She not only got movie-star rich as the co-host of “Live!”; she’s part of TV history, in a league of legends — Regis Philbin, Phil Donahue, Jerry Springer and Oprah Winfrey — who changed TV as they greeted millions of stay-at-home moms and dads each day.
Following in Winfrey’s footsteps wasn’t a path that the actress born and raised in New Jersey dreamed for herself. When Ripa joined Philbin on “Live!” in February 2001, after a fierce nationwide search to replace Kathie Lee Gifford, she was a bubbly soap-opera star best known for her years on “All My Children.” Since then, Ripa has maintained a cheerful (but not plastic) persona as she steered “Live!,” the most-watched syndicated talk show on TV, through divisive moments in...

Everyone’s favorite 90s stars were present at this year’s 90s Con in Connecticut, including Tori Spelling, Ian Ziering, Jason Priestly, Rose McGowan, Brian Krause, Shannen Doherty and Jennie Garth.
Garth posted pictures from the con on her social media, captioning the post, “It was more like Friends Con Loved seeing some familiar and friendly faces this weekend.”

The 90210 star took selfies with costars Spelling, Priestley and Ziering, while noticeably not having one with Doherty. For other stars Garth didn’t get the chance to visit – such as Kathy Najimy, Mark-Paul Gosselaar and Holly Marie Combs – she found and took pictures with banners of them.
People were quick to speculate about the absence of Doherty in person or on a banner, but Garth quickly shut all rumors down.
“Ok. everyone needs to take a deep breath…” Garth wrote in a second post about the Con.

NBC‘s freshman sitcom Lopez vs. Lopez starring George Lopez and his real-life daughter Mayan Lopez has established itself as a series that not only makes us laugh, but also hits on important issues. And that is especially evident in the Friday, February 17 episode entitled “Lopez vs. Appropriation.” In the installment, Mayan (Mayan Lopez) and her father clash over how to handle a business opportunity that’s lucrative but also may cross some moral lines. “Mayan starts making these dog beds that are made out of Mexican serapes and brings them into my work with me,” Mayan tells us. Enter guest star Caroline Rhea, whose character Jana is described by Mayan as the show’s “Karen character,” and who wants to sell the beds to make them both rich. However, the plan hits a snag, Mayan says, when “[Jana] calls them Clint Eastwood ponchos and so I’m like, no, this is something from my culture!

Melissa Joan Hart is ready to blow the dust off her spell books and get witchy for Sabrina the Teenage Witch fans. Speaking with the Associated Press, Hart said she’d be interested in a reboot of Sabrina the Teenage Witch, but making it happen is more complex than fans anticipate. When asked about getting the cover back together to brew another concoction of coming-of-age comedy, Hart replied, “The answer to the Sabrina reboot question is, unfortunately, I can’t just point my finger and make it happen. There’s so much red tape. Who owns it? Who would pay for it? What network would it be on?”
Sorting the details of organizing a reboot is hard work, but we’ve seen the entertainment industry work miracles before. While talking with Hart, the Associated Press asked if all the pieces fell into place would she be willing to participate in the reboot.

Your feelings about NBC’s Lopez vs. Lopez may hinge on how much you enjoyed George Lopez’s first semi-autobiographical comedy.
It’s been 20 years since that self-titled series premiered on ABC, where it ran for six seasons, then went on to find even greater success in syndication. (Show of hands: How many of you discovered the series via Nick at Nite circa 2007?) As you’ll recall, much of the original show’s conflict stemmed from George’s resentment towards his neglectful, alcoholic mother Benny.

Where most shows of the pre-streaming era poured time and resources into year-end episodes and Christmas specials, for “Sabrina the Teenage Witch,” everything went into Halloween. As producer and star Melissa Joan Hart told IndieWire via Zoom, “Of the 26 [episodes] we would do that year, Halloween was always the biggie. That’s when the budget would open up and we’d spend a lot of money on it.”
The proof is in the petrifying pudding, with “Sabrina” creating some of the most unique, inventive, and memorable Halloween episodes of the 1990s. Whether it was alt-rock band 10,000 Maniacs performing during Season 2’s “A River of Candy Corn Runs Through It” or Sabrina giving Frankenstein’s monster and the Bride of Frankenstein couple’s counseling in Season 5’s “The Halloween Scene,” these episodes showcased not only a blend of spooky fun for the whole family, but also an uptick in star power and IP recognition.
