These Two 'Shrinking' Stars Almost Worked Together in 'Raiders of the Lost Ark'
Image
Harrison Ford and Wendie Malick are sharing the screen these days on Apple TV+'s Shrinking, but they could have been co-stars much earlier. Malick auditioned to play hard-drinking adventurer Marion Ravenwood in Raiders of the Lost Ark, but a schedule change left her unprepared. She discussed the incident on Jesse Tyler Ferguson's podcast, Dinner's On Me, this week.

Director Steven Spielberg apparently saw the then-unknown actor in an Excedrin commercial, and had her come in to audition to play the female lead opposite Ford's Indiana Jones: "I get this call: Steven Spielberg, who I don't think I knew who he was at that time, and this guy, George Lucas. They want you to come in to meet them. It was Valentine's Day...we just talked, and they put me on film. We laughed and had a lovely time for, I don't know, like, 45 minutes or something."

Love, Death & Robots Volume 4 Review — Big, Bold, and Showing Burnout
Image
It’s hard not to marvel at the brilliance of Love, Death & Robots. From its direction to the art and sound design, each chapter showcases a wealth of talent, built over more than six years. The latest volume also corrects last season’s misstep by reintroducing various animation styles.

The techniques are stunning, and the craftsmanship remains top-tier. However, the series is beginning to show signs of creative burnout—losing some of its original spark, recycling ideas, and forgetting the sense of fun that once defined it. This should be a blank canvas for bold, imaginative storytelling.

No spoiler content found.

The first episode, “Can’t Stop,” is an exhilarating six-minute string puppet music video directed by legendary filmmaker David Fincher. It features a montage of animated string puppets performing the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ titular song at Ireland’s Slane Castle. This reimagining is stunningly cinematic, with breathtaking visuals...

"I'm Not Against It at All": Original 'Frasier' Cast Member Would Return if the Series Were Rebooted Again
Image
The Frasierrevival may have been cancelled at Paramount+, but if it finds a new home, Frasier Crane may just get a visit from his long-lost brother. David Hyde Pierce, who played Niles Crane on all eleven seasons of Frasier's original run, is open to a guest appearance on the series. Varietyreports that although Pierce turned down a regular role on the series, he'd be happy to drop in on Frasier's new Boston abode.

The series, which debuted in 2023 and ran for two seasons before Paramount+ cancelled it earlier this year, had Frasier (Kelsey Grammer) relocate to Boston to be closer to his firefighter son, Frederick (Jack Cutmore-Scott), in the wake of his father Martin's death. Several Frasier supporting and recurring characters have made appearances on the series, including Roz Doyle (Peri Gilpin), Lilith Sternin (Bebe Neuwirth), Bob "Bulldog" Briscoe (Dan Butler), and Bebe Glazer (Harriet Sansom Harris), but Niles, who...

The 10 Greatest ‘Rashomon’ Sitcom Episodes
Image
Akira Kurosawa’s 1950 crime drama Rashomon took the concept of an unreliable narrator and quadrupled it. In telling the story of how a samurai was murdered, four people give their own contradictory accounts of the death while painting themselves as more virtuous than the others.

Despite the heaviness of the source material, Rashomon has gone on to inspire an unlikely medium: sitcoms. Since at least 1962, sitcoms have used the central storytelling device from Rashomon for comedic effect by letting characters give differing perspectives of the same incident. Each respective narrator typically portrays themself to be the hero of the situation, while describing others as guilty or incompetent.

For comedy, the device is perfect: It highlights character biases and breeds conflict as each retelling contradicts the last. And while it may be a fairly common trope now, some sitcoms have used it exceptionally well, with these 10 standing out as the best…...

Kelsey Grammer Is Rumored to Be Begging His Original ‘Frasier’ Co-Stars to Join the Canceled Reboot
Image
Frasier has left the building – and by building, we mean Paramount+. Earlier this year, the streamer decided that they wouldn’t be picking up the Frasier reboot for a third season, meaning that viewers hoping to enjoy the hijinks of Dr. Frasier Crane will have to get by with the 11 seasons of the original show, and the nine seasons of Cheers that he was part of.

But despite the fact that Frasier 2.0 was canceled, its star, Kelsey Grammer, seems oddly optimistic about the show’s future. Immediately after Paramount+’s decision was announced, sources claimed that the reboot was being shopped around to other platforms and recently, Grammer revealed that he feels “very positive” about Frasier finding “a better home.”

Grammer also suggested that, were the show to return, Sam Malone could be a part of it, since Grammer and Ted Danson are no longer on bad terms. Of course,...

Frasier Becomes a Streaming Hit Again 2 Months After the Revival's Cancellation
Image
The fate of the Frasier reboot remains unclear two months after Paramount+ canceled the new-age edition of the Kelsey Grammer-led sitcom. However, while producers try to find a new home for the revival, the original series becomes a hit on its streaming service, proving Dr. Crane's everlasting appeal to fans.

Per Flix Patrol, the Og Frasier has become a hit on Paramount+, ranking ninth on the streamer's Top 10 charts in the United States. The series is just above the 2023 supernatural teen drama series, School Spirits, in 10th place. Meanwhile, Taylor Sheridan's Yellowstone spinoff, 1923, tops the list.

Frasier remains one of the most beloved comedies and successful spinoffs in history, with the series chronicling the titular radio psychiatrist who fans became familiar with during its parent show, Cheers. Frasier sees Dr. Crane relocate from Cheers' home in Boston to his native Seattle, where he emerges as a popular Kacl...

‘A lot of people are paid a lot more’: James Gandolfini Caused $100M in Damage to HBO After Studio Tried to Outsmart Him With Stingy Deal

James Gandolfini’s portrayal of Tony Soprano redefined television, cementing The Sopranos as one of the greatest TV shows of all time. However, behind the scenes, a fierce contract dispute between Gandolfini and HBO nearly derailed the series, costing the network millions.

George Wendt's Norm From Cheers Shows Up In More TV Shows Than You Might Expect
Image
Even more than four decades after its premiere, "Cheers" remains one of the best sitcoms of all time. The initial premise of the series was twofold: first, the show would focus on the denizens of the eponymous Boston sports bar and their daily foibles, and second, there would be a burgeoning romance between the bar's owner and the newly hired barmaid, Sam Malone (Ted Danson) and Diane Chambers (Shelley Long), respectively. The first season alone of "Cheers" is a master class not only in incisive and hilarious comedy writing, but also in the ability to maintain 22 episodes' worth of stories without ever leaving the bar itself. Within that first season, a slew of characters who were both familiar archetypes and somehow fresh-seeming were established. Aside from the lothario Sam and the well-read and extremely intelligent Diane, there was the sassy barmaid Carla Tortelli (Rhea Perlman), the kindly but not-very-bright barback...

10 Harsh Realities of Rewatching Frasier 32 Years Later
Image
Frasieris considered to be one of the greatest sitcoms of all time. While there are so many jokes and moments fans still revisit and enjoy, many have also recognized some of the more poorly aged moments in the show's run.

Like any show of the time, Frasier hasn't aged perfectly compared to the comedic standards of today. Even in the 2023 reboot of the show, the creatives even point out and recognize some of those flaws that make Frasier feel a bit outdated. Nevertheless, even though the series is one of the greatest of all time, there are still a few moments that haven't aged well.

It Was the Golden Years of Sitcoms

When fans rewatch Frasier, the show provides a cold reminder of just how great the classic sitcoms of the '80s, '90s and early 2000s really were. This era brought audiences shows like Friends, Seinfeld, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air,...

Frasier's 15 Best Guest Stars, Ranked
Image
One of the greatest sitcoms ever created, "Frasier" had its fill of memorable guest appearances during its eleven season run from 1993 to 2004, amassing an incredible 23 Emmy nominations for Outstanding Guest Actor and Actress in a Comedy Series. While Kelsey Grammer, David Hyde Pierce, John Mahony, Jane Leeves, and Peri Gilpin steered the ship for over a decade, like most long-running shows (sitcom or not) the supporting cast, recurring characters, and famous guest spots created interesting and unique dynamics to keep the spirit of the show fresh.

Choosing only 15 guest stars for a show as renowned as "Frasier" proved a difficult challenge, with many amazing performances left off the list for some lesser known appearances. It should also be noted that this list only includes on-screen guest appearances, as the number of famous voices who called in to "The Dr. Frasier Crane Show" on Kacl is far too expansive to consolidate into one list.

The Only Recurring Actors Still Alive From The Golden Girls
Image
If you're making a list of the most timeless sitcoms ever produced, "The Golden Girls" has to be at or near the top. Yes, it's so very 1980s with its Miami fashions and decor, but its themes and sense of humor have aged better than most hit series of its era. At any moment, you can hop on Hulu, click on a random episode, and know you'll laugh yourself silly while watching Dorothy Zbornak (Bea Arthur), Blanche Devereaux (Rue McClanahan), Rose Nylund (Betty White), and Sophia Petrillo (Estelle Getty) get in some kind of jam and ultimately be reminded of the importance and power of friendship.

The writing on "The Golden Girls" was always sharp (it won the Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Comedy Series twice), but the secret to its seven years of sustained success (it ranked in the Nielsen ratings top ten for all but its final season) was undoubtedly its cast.

“Frasier” Cast: What Are They Doing in 2025?
Image
Not many shows have left a lasting impact in TV history as Frasier did. The NBC sitcom aired from 1993 until 2004, and while it was a spinoff of Cheers, it became so much more. The series had sharp dialogue, smart humor, and the perfect cast one could imagine, which earned the show a record-breaking 37 Emmy Awards during its original run.

Paramount+'s Cancelation Of Frasier Is The Best Thing To Happen To Kelsey Grammer's Revival
Image
After two seasons, Paramount+ officially cancels the Frasier revival, but it is the best thing to happen to Kelsey Grammer's project. Inspired by the success of the Roseanne reboot on ABC, the actor started shopping the idea around to various broadcasters. Admittedly, getting the show up encountered some big issues, especially after original Frasier cast members, David Hyde Pierce, Jane Leeves, and Peri Gilpin turned down appearing as series regulars. This forced Grammer to eventually set the Frasier revival in Boston, with the comedy also effectively replacing Cheers with a new bar, Mahoney's.

Admittedly, the debut season of the new show was rough. it was difficult to get through, especially for those who were used to its predecessor, which was known for its fast pace, snappy dialogue, and elevated brand of comedy. The Frasier revival season 2 was a bit better, with increased involvement from Gilpin's Roz and a nostalgia-filled return to Seattle-set episode.

Frasier | Sitcom revival cancelled by Paramount+
Ted Danson, Shelley Long, John Ratzenberger, George Wendt, Nicholas Colasanto, and Rhea Perlman in Cheers (1982)
Paramount+ has cancelled the revived version of Frasier after two series. The show is now being shopped to other networks.

Frasier is undoubtably one of the most beloved American sitcoms of all time. Spun-off from Cheers, itself an 11 season American institution, Frasier had some of the wittiest writing on television, elevated by the magnificent casting of David Hyde Pierce as Frasier’s equally fastidious brother Niles.

Along with the much missed John Mahoney as their dad, Martin, Jane Leeves as housekeeper Daphne Moon and Peri Gilpin as acerbic producer Roz Doyle, over 11 seasons the show became embedded in American culture.

According to Deadline, Paramount+ has decided not to move forward with a third series. One of the reasons given is that the show “could not break through in a major way on Paramount+”.

However, the creative team are shopping the show to other networks. There may yet be a future for the show.

'Frasier' Revival Canceled by Paramount+ After 2 Seasons
Image
Kelsey Grammer’s time as Frasier Crane appears to be at an end for now, as Paramount+ have officially canceled the Frasier revival series after just two seasons. Grammer has previously hinted that he wanted to see the show run for as long as his first time around, but just months after the conclusion of Season 2, those hoping to see more from the popular Cheers spinoff are going to be left incredibly disappointed.

The revival premiered in October 2023 on Paramount+, bringing back Grammer as Crane after nearly two decades. In the show, the character returned to Boston for a whole new chapter, and while the series delivered a few familiar faces, and included the signature humor of the series, many had hoped to see many characters returning, slightly tarnishing the show’s return. However, Frasier did secure a Season 2 renewal despite not landing with the bang CBS Studios had been hoping for.

The Farrelly Brothers Worked On A Classic Seinfeld Episode Before Their Rise To Fame
Image
Peter and Bobby Farrelly were complete unknowns in 1994 when they stormed multiplexes with the smash comedy hit "Dumb and Dumber." It was the third Jim Carrey movie of that year, and by far the funniest. With its unabashed gross-out gags (Jeff Daniels' explosive diarrhea sequence is a classic of the very low form) and aggressively silly shenanigans, the film ushered in a new era of buffoonish humor that made Jerry Lewis' work look like drawing room farces. (/Film ranks "Dumb and Dumber" as the Farrellys' finest effort to date.) The Farrellys then doubled down on their sickening shtick with the box office disappointment "Kingpin" in 1996, only to rise to putrescent prominence two years later with the raunchy blockbuster "There's Something About Mary."

While folks inside the industry were semi-familiar with the Farrellys as peddlers of comedy pitches, mainstream moviegoers were struck, well, dumb by their rapid ascent. So, those hungry...

All 11 Season Finales Of Frasier, Ranked
Image
Frasier (1993-2003) is a cerebral sitcom starring Kelsey Grammer as popular Seattle radio psychiatrist, Dr. Frasier Crane, and it has several great season finales. When Frasier returns to his hometown in Washington state, his father, Martin Crane (John Mahoney), moves in with him, creating endless tension between the two. To top things off, Frasier’s brother, Niles (David Hyde Pierce), promptly falls hopelessly in love with their disabled father’s caregiver, Daphne Moon (Jane Leeves).

The Crane family antics have been a beloved mainstay of the sitcom genre for the past 32 years. This 90s comedy show was recently resurrected in the 2023 Frasier reboot, although the remake was greeted with less critical acclaim. Over the course of 10 years on the air, the original Frasier show created big shoes to fill with its interplay of screwball comedy and universally relatable themes. Many of the most memorable episodes of the show were its season finales,...

Frasier's Donny Douglas Originally Had A Much Smaller Role
Image
Every great TV sitcom romance has to have a third wheel. Just like the classic romantic comedies of the 1930s and 1940s, the whole idea of these romances between two characters that the audience (hopefully) adores is that there have to be some obstacles to the moment of happily ever after. Although the iconic and oft-awarded sitcom "Frasier," now in its second season of a revival on Paramount+ (read /Film's review), was itself a spinoff of the equally iconic NBC show "Cheers," both of them ended up being anchored in a way by long-running romances between two core characters.

In the case of "Cheers," of course, the romance was that of the charmingly doofy bartender Sam Malone and his well-read barmaid Diane Chambers, which sparked in the pilot episode and didn't truly conclude until the series finale in season 11. "Frasier" went in a slightly different direction; while title character Frasier...

Peri Gilpin Holds a 31-Year Frasier Universe Record That May Never Be Broken
Image
Few sitcoms have the same flavor as Frasier. Carried on the talented backs of David Hyde Pierce and Kelsey Grammer, the Seattle-set comedy entranced audiences with a unique blend of timeless humor and cerebral witticisms. Addi Frasier’s core cast was decidedly masculine. At their luxurious apartment, Frasier and Niles often bickered with their father, Martin Crane (John Mahoney). The only consistent feminine presence in the Crane household was Martin’s live-in caretaker, Daphne Moon (Jane Leeves). The next most important female role would be Frasier’s radio producer, Roz Doyle. There were other feminine influences, but only one of the show’s actresses played more than one role in the larger Cheers continuity.

In 1993, Peri Gilpin appeared as Holly Matheson in Cheers. This seemingly minor one-off part would ultimately propel her to superstardom, as she went on to star as Frasier’s radio producer, Roz Doyle, in Frasier. By...

'Can't Help But Wonder': Hollywood Legend Regrets Turning Down Frasier

The Emmy-winning and Oscar-nominated actor John Lithgow said he often speculates about what things may have been like if he took on the role of Frasier Crane instead of Kelsey Grammer. Lithgow, who is currently appearing in the new film Conclave, per The Independent, said that he “can’t help but wonder” what life would be like if he took the role that originated on the classic sitcom Cheers.

Lithgow said he was pursued for the role of the psychiatrist of Frasier Crane before Grammer ended up being cast in the role that he played for many years, including in the recent reboot. Lithgow, who also starred in a 1990s sitcom, 3rd Rock From the Sun, said he was offered the role shortly after his back-to-back Oscar nods for his turns in The World According to Garp (1982) and Terms of Endearment (1983).

Frasier Once Broke This 69-Year-Old Western's Most Impressive Record
Image
It may be hard to remember all these years later, but NBC's Frasier was so popular during its first airing that, throughout all 11 seasons, the series' primary cast remained completely unchanged, which is nigh unheard of in the world of television (especially these days). By the time the series ended in 2004, that longevity had earned the show's lead, Kelsey Grammer, an incredibly impressive record that only one other person in the history of show business had accomplished to that point.

In 1955, televisions all across America continually tuned into one incredibly popular Western: Gunsmoke. Set in the town of Dodge City, Kansas, in the late 19th century, the series brought to life the dramatic excitement involved in settling the American West through the eyes of its central lawman, Marshal Matt Dillon, played by James Arness. Nominated for 15 Primetime Emmy Awards, Gunsmoke also earned its lead star a unique recognition that...

The Real Reason Frasier Is Set in Seattle (& Why the Revival Went Back to Boston)

In todays world, when a beloved TV show ends, the idea of making a spin-off often feels almost obvious. But back when sitcoms were the biggest thing on the airwaves, spin-offs were much more of a gamble. How do you capture the magic of the original while building something fresh? This was the conundrum faced by Kelsey Grammer and the creators of Frasier after the Cheers finale. Grammer initially wasnt interested in reprising his role as Dr. Frasier Crane. Of course, audiences know today that he ended up returning to the character that he still performs today in the aptly named Frasier. Many consider the original run to be one of the greatest sitcoms of all time. But why was there hesitancy in the initial stages?

The original pitch was not a Cheers spin-off at all, but actually Grammer taking on a Michael Forbes-like wealthy paraplegic publisher having difficulty living with his street-smart nurse.

Quick Links Daphne Was Originally a Latina Housekeeper One Actress Got Too Big for Her Boots Jane Leeves Impressed a Very Stubborn Kelsey Grammar

Frasier is more than just a spin-off of the hit sitcom Cheers; it's a celebration of intellect and comedy. Though the show is best known for its pretentious titular character, fans immediately fell in love with the surrounding cast. As such, it was Frasier's friends and family that helped to keep this show grounded and ensured that it still maintained some of Cheers' middle-class gags.

Daphne Moon is a premium example of a secondary character. It's a sad week for Frasier fans as Season 2 of the revival series came to an end with Episode 10, "Father Christmas." The show has not been officially picked up for a third outing.

The original show followed the psychiatrist Frasier Crane as he returned to his hometown of Seattle to pursue a career in talk radio. He also reconnects with his father, Martin (John Mahoney), a retired cop, and his younger brother, Niles (David Hyde Pierce), who is also a psychiatrist.

Why An Original Frasier Cast Member Won't Return For The Revival
Image
After two seasons of the "Frasier" revival series, the show still can't shake the feeling that had it managed to assemble the surviving cast from the original series, it would be much better. That's not to say the new series is as bad as some reviewers have made out, but there's no doubt "Frasier" 2024 just feels odd without the original gang.

There's more to this feeling than the lack of the original ensemble, though. A "Frasier" revival just felt a bit off from the moment it was announced. Aside from the fact Kelsey Grammer was saying not-so-modest things about his character being the key to "Frasier," (and overlooking the contributions of the outstanding ensemble in the process), there was the fact that the actor had clearly been struggling career-wise before rebooting his beloved '90s sitcom — the truly abject "Money Plane," in which Grammer put together an airborne heist being one rather lamentable example.

The 5 Worst Episodes Of Frasier, Ranked
Image
One of the most remarkable things about "Frasier" is its consistency. When the "Frasier" pilot aired back in 1993, Niles actor David Hyde Pierce thought the episode was "terrible" at first. Oh, how wrong he was. The pilot, entitled "The Good Son," remains an exceptional debut episode in TV history, simply because all the characters arrived fully formed, their dynamics dialed in and their chemistry immediately evident. The writing was as good as it ever got, too, and most importantly, the show demonstrated its commitment to an underlying moral depth right from the off, with Frasier and his father clashing initially before making up in a touching moment that saw John Mahoney's Martin Crane calling into his son's radio show to smooth things over.

Not content with debuting a show that appeared to have been running like clockwork for years, "Frasier" writers continued to pump out quality over the ensuing 11 seasons.

Frasier's Big Roz Update Is A Step Closer To Making Peri Gilpin A Permanent Part Of The Show, And It's Exactly What The Reboot Needs
Image
While the Frasier reboot mainly features a cast of new characters, Dr. Crane's former Kacl radio colleague Roz Doyle could end up becoming a mainstay of the series once more. Played by actor Peri Gilpin, Roz has made frequent appearances in the reboot ever since visiting her old friend for Christmas in the Frasier season 1 finale. Given Roz's growing presence in Frasier season 2, Gilpin may be gearing up to join the Frasier reboot cast as a main character in the Boston setting.

Aside from Freddy Crane (Jack Cutmore-Scott), Frasier Crane (Kelsey Grammer) is the only character from the original show who is a part of the reboot's central cast for the first two seasons. However, should Roz become a player in Frasier's daily routine once more, the reboot could take another big step towards recapturing the magic that made the original Frasier such a popular sitcom.

The Only Frasier Actors To Appear In Every Episode Of The Original Series
Image
Any fan of "Frasier" will know that while the titular doctor is the star of the show, the series itself would have been nothing without its ensemble. The beloved sitcom ran from 1993 to 2004 and managed to sustain its quality throughout — a rarity for any show, but certainly for sitcoms of the era if you consider that even "Friends" was cranking out some of its worst episodes by its tenth and final season.

A big part of what gave "Frasier" its durability was its ensemble, which comprised not only multiple other main characters, but also an entire world of supporting and guest characters that made Dr. Crane's world feel like a real, living place. Of course, the main cast itself was most crucial to this aspect of the series, with John Mahoney's Crane patriarch, Martin, and David Hyde Pierce's Niles, the equally fastidious yet lovable brother of Frasier, being the most integral.

Frasier Season 2 Subtly Admits The Harshest Reality Facing The Reboot Show's Future
Image
Frasier Crane's return to Seattle in Frasier season 2 highlights the harsh truth about the revival's future. The first 10 episodes of the Frasier revival focused on establishing the character's new life in Boston. In its sophomore year, however, the Paramount+ project leans a little bit more on nostalgia with its storytelling that includes the return of familiar faces from Frasier's time in the Pacific Northwest. In perhaps, one of the most poignant outings of this year, Frasier comes back to Kacl for a special session of "The Dr. Frasier Crane Show," which, unsurprisingly, encounters some issues.

What inspires Frasier to revive his local show is his desire to help Roz fix the fledgling radio company in Frasier season 2, episode 8, "Thank You, Dr. Crane." Now that Peri Gilpin is essentially a semi-regular cast member in the Frasier revival, this storyline is fairly easy to stage. The pair's trip back to their iconic booth,...

New ‘Frasier’s Most Nostalgic Episode Was a Major Bummer
Image
The Frasier reboot feels decidedly different from the original show, not just because Kelsey Grammer is older and it’s hard to look at him the same way post-Money Plane, but also thanks to the change in setting. Frasier 2.0, of course, takes place in Boston — or at least some kind of alternate universe Boston in which Cheers doesn’t exist for some reason.

But this week, Frasier made the bold move of sending Dr. Crane back to his hometown of Seattle. This is what fans have been waiting for, right? The episode certainly leaned into the nostalgia of its premise, shoehorning a second title sequence into the beginning of the show to reflect Frasier’s return to the Emerald City.

But what did this trip actually do for the show? Not a whole lot. Frasier couldn’t reunite with Niles and Daphne, owing to the fact that David Hyde Pierce...

Frasier Reboot's Seattle Return Episode Finally Reveals What Happened to Niles & Daphne
Image
This article contains spoilers from Frasier Season 2, Episode 8, "Thank You, Dr. Crane," now streaming on Paramount+.

The Frasier reboot's latest episode sees the series return to its spiritual home as Frasier Crane and his cohorts visit Seattle for the first time since the original sitcom ended. The nostalgia-filled episode ties up some loose ends in the series, including finally revealing what happened to two noticeably absent characters from the show.

Season 2, Episode 8, "Thank You Dr. Crane," sees Kelsey Grammer's central character jet off to Seattle alongside his son Freddy (Jack Cutmore-Scott) as Frasier reunites with his Kacl colleagues and looks to help his long-time friend Roz (Peri Gilpin) relocate to Boston. As Freddy prepares to leave for the Northwest with his father, his friend Eve (Jess Salgueiro) asks if his uncle Niles still lives in Seattle. Freddy responds "No, he and Aunt Daphne moved to Sedona."

Frasier Season 2 Finally Reveals What Happened To David Hyde Pierce's Niles Crane
Image
If there's one thing haunting the "Frasier" revival series, beyond the general complaint that only Kelsey Grammer returned from the original cast, it's the more specific complaint that Niles isn't in the show. The titular psychiatrist's similarly pompous yet lovable brother was essentially the other main character in the original sitcom, and his absence from the reboot has been conspicuous to say the least.

Fans will know the story about why Niles actor David Hyde Pierce didn't return for the "Frasier" revival. To put it simply, the man didn't seem all that interested in the project, claiming he didn't "miss" the characters and was otherwise busy with other ventures. After the Paramount+ streaming series was renewed for a second season, however, the actor's comments started to sound a little less negative, with Hyde Pierce revealing his one condition for returning to the role of Niles. Meanwhile, Grammar seemed willing to...

What Happened To Niles & Daphne After Frasier & Where They Are During The Reboot Explained
Image
Warning! Spoilers ahead for Frasier season 2, episode 8.After 18 episodes, the new Frasier finally reveals what happened to Niles Crane. Ever since news about the Paramount+ revival was confirmed, questions about David Hyde Pierce's possible return have been a big mystery. Even after Kelsey Grammer explained that the actor and Jane Leeves opted out of the project, which means that Niles and Daphne wouldn't be in it, there was continued hope that they would eventually make an appearance. For what it's worth, Pierce's recent comments about returning in the Frasier revival seemed like an indication that a cameo was at least in the works.

Pierce has always been clear about his stance on a Frasier revival long before Grammer was able to successfully sell the idea to Parmaount+. He didn't think it was necessary, considering that the original show fit a specific moment in time. So it shouldn't be surprising...

Original Frasier Star Explains Why It Wouldn't "Feel Right" To Return For Paramount+ Revival
Image
An original Frasier star explains why it wouldn't "feel right" to return for the Paramount+ revival. A spin-off of Cheers, the sitcom originally aired on NBC from 1993 to 2004, following Kesley Grammer's titular psychiatrist as he returns to his hometown of Seattle, where he reconnects with his father, Martin (John Mahoney). The Paramount+ revival, which premiered in 2023, brings Frasier back to Boston and while it follows a mostly new cast of characters, does feature the return of some original stars, such as Peri Gilpin as Roz Doyle.

Now, another original Frasier star has addressed a potential return in the Paramount+ revival. Talking to TV Insider promoting Apple TV's Shrinking season 2, Wendie Malick said it wouldn't "feel right" to return for the Paramount+ revival without John Mahoney, who passed away in 2018. Read her full comments below:

Ted Danson apologizes to Kelsey Grammer for a years-old argument from the Cheers days
Image
The new Frasier series premieres episodes of season 2 on Paramount+, and Ted Danson and Woody Harrelson have started the Where Everybody Knows Your Name podcast, so it’s inevitable that Grammer would reunite with his good ol’ drinking buddies for an episode on the podcast. While the former co-stars would obviously start reminiscing about working on Cheers together, things would also get pretty deep as Danson and Grammer explore some of Grammer’s tragic past and confront some seemingly unresolved conflicts of the past.

As the actors have grown and matured, Danson has taken it upon himself to apologize to Grammer for an argument between them that happened on Cheers. According to Variety, Danson explained, “I feel like I got stuck a little bit with you during the Cheers years. I have a memory of getting angry at you once.” Grammer responded, “Yeah, you came and told me that one day.

Kelsey Grammer's Wants to Do a Specific Number of Frasier Episodes
Image
Kelsey Grammer loves portraying Dr. Frasier Crane... so much so, that he hopes to play the character for "another 100 episodes at least." Grammer began portraying the iconic character in 1984 when he appeared on Cheers as a love interest to Diane Chambers (Shelley Long). Grammer remained on the sitcom until its concluding Season 11 in 1993, but Frasier wouldn't be gone for long. Months after Cheers wrapped, Grammer was back as Dr. Crane, this time on Frasier, which saw his character back in his native Seattle, working as a radio psychiatrist and surrounded by a new, and equally incredible, cast of characters.

Nearly two decades later, Grammer was back in Dr. Crane's (more relaxed) shoes for Paramount+'s reboot. The revival is now in its second season, and Grammer hopes it runs for many more. During an interview with the Toronto Sun, he shared:

"I want to do another 100 episodes at least.

Frasier Reboot New Cast & Returning Character Guide
Image
The Frasier reboot's cast of characters might differ from that of the original 11-season series, but Kelsey Grammer's beloved title character remains very much the same. Picking up almost 20 years after Frasier Crane moved from Seattle to Chicago in the Frasier series finale, the reboot sees its titular psychiatrist settling down in Boston, where he lived during the Cheers timeline, to reconnect with his estranged son Frederick "Freddy" Crane (Jack Cutmore-Scott). Even though the revival still orbits Dr. Crane, many original characters don't return for the Frasier reboot for one reason or another.

Sadly, Frasier's father, Martin (the late John Mahoney), passes away before the former radio host heads to Boston. Meanwhile, celebrated actors like David Hyde Pierce and Jane Leeves didn't show any interest in returning to their career-defining sitcom roles. While these actors and their characters are sorely missed, it frees up the Frasier reboot's formula a bit.

Frasier Season 2 Fixes A Big Problem With The Reboot's Niles Replacement
Image
By its third episode, Frasier season 2 finally fixes a big problem with its Niles replacement, Professor Alan Cornwall (Nicholas Lyndhurst). In the original series, the reboot-averse David Hyde Pierce's Niles Crane was a snobby psychiatrist, not unlike his older brother Frasier (Kelsey Grammer), although he was the more eccentric Crane brother. Often arrogant and detached, Niles' quirks are balanced out by the fact that he's also incredibly caring and kind. Of all the original members of Frasier's cast of characters, Niles is probably the reboot's biggest loss. Thankfully, the revival provides other foils for Frasier.

While David Crane (Anders Keith), Niles and Daphne's (Jane Leeves) son, has the same anxious energy as his father, Frasier's nephew pales in comparison to the Frasier reboot's best Niles replacement. Alan, a tenured Harvard professor who befriended Frasier at Oxford decades ago, is the more compelling stand-in. Like Niles, Alan is Frasier's intellectual equal,...

How Frasier Is So Rich (How Much Money Did He Earn?)
Image
Before his self-titled series, Frasier, Kelsey Grammer's Dr. Frasier Crane first appeared in Cheers, boasting Armani suits that didn't quite fit with the blue-collar bar's vibe, effectively raising questions about his financial status. Once the psychiatrist moved back to Seattle for the original Frasier, his opulent spending habits and perfectly decorated apartment only reiterated his impressive wealth. In the Frasier reboot, Dr. Crane continues to live lavishly, with the Boston-set revival even dialing up his wealth pretty considerably. That said, the character's apparent wealth has made viewers wonder how, exactly, Frasier Crane is so rich.

In Frasier, the psychiatrist trades his more conventional practice for the Dr. Frasier Crane Show on Kacl 780 Am. Interestingly, the members of Frasier's cast of characters who worked alongside Frasier at Kacl, like his producer-turned-friend Roz Doyle (Peri Gilpin), don't seem as well off as the psychiatrist. Notably, Frasier purchases a top-floor three-bedroom condo,...

The Frasier Revival Just Had Its Best Episode — But It's Bittersweet
Image
By the end of the "Frasier" revival's first season, I was convinced that the new series should have been a one-off special. The series opener was a touching return to the world of Kelsey Grammer's Dr. Crane, featuring a moving tribute to the late Martin actor John Mahoney and some half-decent writing from new showrunners Chris Harris and Joe Cristali — the latter of whom is a self-confessed "Frasier" superfan who used to run a "Frasier For Hire" Twitter feed containing the writer's ideas for jokes that could have been used on the original sitcom.

The season finale, too, stacked up quite nicely against "Frasier" episodes past, bringing back the titular psychiatrist's former producer Roz (Peri Gilpin) for a cameo appearance that surely had fans of the original series tearing up. But between these two standout episodes, the "Frasier" revival's first season was a whole load of mediocre. New characters...

Why David Hyde Pierce's Niles Isn't In The Frasier Reboot
Image
When the Frasier reboot was announced, long-time viewers were split over Kelsey Grammer's reboot, though everyone agreed that David Hyde Pierce's absence from the revival of the classic sitcom was a glaring misstep. The whole conundrum has left fans wondering why, exactly, Niles doesn't appear in the Frasier reboot and if that will change as the Paramount+ series churns out new episodes. The original show, which was a spin-off of the equally acclaimed sitcom Cheers, saw Frasier Crane (Grammer) move from Boston to Seattle for a talk show. Now, the Frasier reboot reverses its title character's decision.

Eager to start his fourth act and repair his fractured relationship with his son, Freddy (Jack Cutmore-Scott), Dr. Crane joins Frasier's new and returning cast of characters in Boston. There's no doubt that Pierce's absence is deeply felt. The Emmy-winning actor's character, Niles, was an absolute scene-stealer in Frasier thanks to his oft-neurotic antics.

Frasier Season 2 Makes Its Cheers Plot Hole Worse By Fixing Its Most Problematic Relationship
Image
Warning! Spoilers ahead for Frasier season 2.

The Frasier season 2 premiere finally fixes its most problematic relationship, but it makes its Cheers plot hole worse in the process. Coming back to Boston, there was already an expectation that the Frasier revival would lean into Frasier Crane's history with the city. Before he spent more than a decade back home in Seattle to reconnect with his family, he was based in Beantown. It was where he connected with Lilith and had Freddy. Despite that, the first 10 episodes of the Frasier revival barely revisited his time in Cheers. It hasn't even name-dropped Sam Malone's pub yet.

By the Frasier season 1 finale, Grammer's character has been able to fully get re-acquainted with the city. He has a solid job as a guest lecturer at Harvard and is continuously mending his relationship with Freddy. Surprisingly, the Paramount+ revival did all of this without leaning into nostalgia,...

The New ‘Frasier’ Has No Time for Anyone But Frasier
Image
The sitcom Frasier, starring Kelsey Grammer in the titular role, was a critical, ratings and awards success during its run from 1993 through 2004. It continued to pick up new fans when it was syndicated, and later when it became a fixture on streaming platforms. When any property becomes an across-the-board hit like this one, there’s going to be talk of reviving it in some form, even if most series regulars have declined to reprise their roles and one of them has died. Thus did a new season of a new Frasier reach Paramount+ subscribers last fall.

Even positive reviews were notably qualified. Liz Shannon Miller wrote that “it feels like something’s missing” and cited a lack of “purpose”; Laura Bradley complained that Nicholas Lyndhurst’s Alan (supposedly a lifelong friend of Frasier’s despite our never having heard of him before this era of Frasier’s story) is “one-note.

Frasier and His Son's Relationship Dynamic Explained By Reboot EPs Ahead of Season 2
Image
The Frasier reboot chronicles the titular protagonist's Boston return as he, among other things, tries to rekindle his relationship with his estranged son, Freddy Crane. The revival series' EPs explain the father-son dynamic between Frasier and Freddy, suggesting it mirrors exchanges from the original show involving two beloved characters.

Speaking with TVLine, Frasier reboot executive producers, Chris Harris and Joe Cristalli, expounded on the source of friction between Frasier (Kelsey Grammer) and Freddy (Jack Cutmore-Scott) after they reunite in Boston, plus the similarities and differences between their personalities. According to Harris, Freddy is essentially filling the role occupied by Frasier's dad, Martin Crane (John Mahoney), in the original series, claiming he can be just as standoffish and sharp-witted as Frasier. Cristalli said Freddy can be "that person that can put Frasier in his place with some gentle chiding, but is still so charming that you love him for it Obviously,...
