There are a lot of Stephen King adaptations yet to come this year alone. The Life of Chuck is my most-anticipated, even if it isn’t a horror adaptation, though I had plenty of gory fun with The Monkey earlier this year. That damned monkey might even appear on my year-end list, who knows? Still, Edgar Wright’s The Running Man is bowing later this year, and Francis Lawrence’s adaptation of The Long Walk is poised to release this fall.
That’s a lot of Stephen King, especially considering just how packed the past several years have been with adaptations, prequels, and Apple TV miniseries. The sheer volume makes it easy to miss some adaptations, no matter how good they are. One such example was David E. Kelley’s miniseries adaptation of Mr. Mercedes. The series is now streaming on Peacock, though it was a long, winding road to get there.

If you’ve ever binged Boston Legal or laughed your way through Ally McBeal, then you’re already well aware of David E. Kelley. He’s one of television’s biggest geniuses and gave us unforgettable characters and shows that perfectly brought humor and drama in ways no one could quite match.
While his hit shows have also helped him win several awards, despite this, even he has some regrets in the business.
This was The Crazy Ones, featuring the late actor Robin Williams. While the collaboration of the duo seemed like a match made in heaven, the project, however, didn’t go as they had hoped.

Wonder Woman has always been a tricky character to adapt, and over the years, we’ve seen Gal Gadot don the iconic armor in Batman Vs Superman and her solo films. Now that a new era of DC has begun, with James Gunn at the helm, will he learn from his predecessors?

Character actor Denis Arndt, who appeared in Basic Instinct, a slate of David E. Kelley shows and earned a Tony nomination for his role in Broadway’s two-hander Heisenberg, has died at the age of 86, his family announced in an obituary published Wednesday.
“It is with a heavy heart that I announce the passing of our dad, Denis Leroy Arndt,” the statement read. “He died peacefully in his bed in his beloved cabin home of almost 50 years in Ashland, Oregon; he wouldn’t have had it any other way.”
Born Feb. 23, 1939 in Issaquah, Wash., Arndt served as a helicopter pilot during the Vietnam War and was awarded the Purple Heart twice. Afterward, the soon-to-be prolific actor moved to Seattle, where a friend convinced him to audition for a local theater, paving the way to more onstage roles later in his career.
“Of course, Dad got the main role. And he was brilliant.

If you can read this, you can also check out the latest Harlan Coben adaptation on Netflix. The popular and prolific author's latest novel-turned-series, Caught, was released on the streaming behemoth today, Wednesday, March 26, 2025. And with its arrival, so too, comes some insight from Coben himself on his other projects currently in the works, Runaway and I Will Find You.
In new reporting from Variety, Coben let a few details slip about the forthcoming projects. Namely, that the Minnie Driver, James Nesbitt, and Ruth Jones-starring Runaway is already in production in England, and that the Sam Worthington-frontedI Will Find You will begin shooting even sooner than you think! Unfortunately, the update did not include any details on his Myron Bolitar television series with equally-as-prolific (and beloved!) television creator David E. Kelley.

Streaming giant Hulu has officially announced that the second season of its drama series, Nine Perfect Strangers, is slated for a spring 2025 release. This comes nearly four years after the show's initial debut in September 2021. An instant hit when it dropped as a limited series, Nine Perfect Strangers became Hulu’s most-watched original series ever, with viewership of the series continuing to peak on the streamer for five consecutive days after it premiered. Its success led to a renewal for Season 2, which will feature a brand-new storyline, as Season 1 covered the source material by best-selling author Liane Moriarty, which has no follow-up novel.
The upcoming season will comprise of eight episodes, and it introduces a notable shift in setting from the fictional town of Cabrillo, California, to the picturesque Austrian Alps, where a new group of nine strangers will set off for an adventure of unconventional wellness treatments. It's considered something of a footnote now, but Robin Williams' last TV credit before his death was for "The Crazy Ones," a David E. Kelley-created single-camera sitcom that aired from September 2013 to April 2014. "The Crazy Ones" was notable in that it was Williams' first time headlining a TV series since the broadcast of "Mork and Mindy" (with Pam Dawber) over three decades earlier. Williams had spent the bulk of his career working in standup or starring in movies, often gaining a great deal of acclaim for his performances. He was nominated for Oscars for "Good Morning, Vietnam," "Dead Poets Society," and "The Fisher King" before finally winning for his very generous turn in "Good Will Hunting." His comedy albums also won him multiple Grammys, while his standup specials netted him two Emmys.
Williams would happily have made a joke about how he is not an Egot, but a mere Ego.

The Brits have been on a generational run, making some of the best television shows and movies out there. Their content is raw, unfiltered, and makes your stomach churn with each passing scene. Over the years, they have gained a reputation as the go-to source for quality entertainment.
One such show taking rounds on the internet for its gripping story and brilliant portrayal of young minds navigating crime and broken family dynamics is airing on Netflix under the name Adolescence. If you still haven’t seen it, know that Stephen Graham is also part of the show, which itself should speak volumes about the miniseries.
The man doesn’t have a bad movie or show under his name, be it his acting as a raging chef in Boiling Point or his popular role in Line of Duty—all of them have been masterpieces. Now, with the release of the new Netflix project,...

The State of the Race
Unfortunately, unlike the Comedy and Drama categories, which have expanded in recent years, the Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series category at the Emmys still only allows for five nominees. Shows that premiere earlier in the season tend to be favored, making the spring schedule, when the majority of these shows are released, a very tight competition for voters’ attention.

Netflix's new series based on Harlan Coben's novels about the character Myron Bolitar got a major name as producer. Mega TV producer David E. Kelley (Lincoln Lawyer) will be collaborating with Coben as co-writers and co-executive producers, per Deadline.
Coben signed a deal with Netflix several years ago which has seen several of his books adapted as shows and upon renewing in 2022, Netflix got access to the 11 Bolitar novels and a novella called Win. With a decorated career spanning over three decades and countless accolades to his name, like an Academy Award and two Golden Globes, Billy Bob Thornton is undeniably one of Hollywood's most exciting chameleon performers. Thornton has dominated both the big and small screen while showcasing his dazzling acting prowess, memorably appearing in a slew of cinematic knockouts, including Sling Blade, Armageddon, Bad Santa, and Monster's Ball, while also shifting his focus to the world of television with unforgettable roles in Fargo and the 2024 streaming sensation Landman.

David E. Kelley's unusual primetime drama "Picket Fences" debuted on CBS in 1992, and it was, like a lot of media of the 1990s, an aggressive takedown of the previous generation's tropes. The title, "Picket Fences," was meant to evoke the placid serenity of the post-War Baby Boom, describing a common yard feature in the then-new 1950s suburbs. The series, however, took place in Rome, Wisconsin, a place that was anything but placid. The stories surrounded bleak and sometimes unexplained crimes, and the show regularly tackled sensitive and political topics like abortion, sexual assault, polyamory, and the place of faith in the modern world.
"Picket Fences," with its soapy stories and unusual tone, was clearly a knockoff of (or merely following the trends started by) David Lynch's 1990 series "Twin Peaks." That show also aimed to deconstruct placid 1950s media images with dark violence and surreal mysteries.

Brian Tee has been an actor for years, playing a villain in “The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift,” and with roles on “Grey’s Anatomy,” “Entourage,” and “Chicago Med.” One of his most challenging roles to date, however, was Clarke, the husband of Nicole Kidman’s character on Prime Video’s “Expats.” (Follow the full list of Film Independent Spirit Award winners here.)
The Lulu Wang-directed series, an adaptation of Janice Y.K. Lee’s novel “The Expatriates,” centered on a couple, played by Tee and Kidman, living in Hong Kong whose toddler son vanishes in a crowded marketplace. Clearly, he was abducted. It’s a harrowing moment — the absolute worst fear a parent could ever have — but remarkably, it was the very first scene Tee shot opposite Kidman for the show.

Even though it is far from his most revered works, and the unrealistic premise wasn’t everyone’s cup of tea, the show did have a lasting impact on both fans and its lead.
