The first season of the latest Walking Dead spinoff The Ones Who Live is concluding this weekend, but the latest profit participation lawsuit from zombie apocalypse creator Robert Kirkman, franchise executive producer Gale Anne Hurd and others is far from over.
With heavy emphasis on the $200 million settlement AMC suddenly made in 2021 to end ex-twd showrunner Frank Darabont and CAA’s nearly 10-year long lawsuit over profits, U.S. District Judge Fernando Aenlle-Rocha yesterday denied the outlet’s move to have Kirkman, Hurd, David Alpert, Charles Eglee and Glen Mazzara’s mega-millions case dismissed.
“It would be an illogical interpretation of the Mfn (most favored nations) provisions and contrary to the reasonable expectations of the parties in entering into the agreements if the court were to allow Defendants, as a matter of law, to provide Darabont and CAA with increased contingent compensation and a greater share of future gross receipts...

“The Walking Dead” debuted on AMC in 2010, instantly becoming a massive hit. For almost as long, the cable network has been fighting in court with the show’s creators over how much of the profits it has to share.
Much like the main show itself (which ended in 2022), the original lawsuit is over — but the spinoff litigation is still going strong.
On Monday, a federal judge denied AMC’s motion to throw out a suit brought by five of the show’s executive producers. The producers — Robert Kirkman, Gale Anne Hurd, David Alpert, Glen Mazzara and Charles Eglee — allege that they were improperly denied their profit participation from the original show and from “Fear the Walking Dead,” the first of six “Walking Dead” spinoffs.
The producers first sued in 2017, several years after “Walking Dead” creator Frank Darabont brought his own profits lawsuit. Darabont, who was fired following the show’s first season,...

"The Terminator" is a perfect movie. /Film's own Jacob Hall has argued director James Cameron has never surpassed it. Cameron knows how to get his money's worth from Titanic-sized budgets and the filmmaking world is a better place when he gets to reach the peak of his ambitions. Still, "The Terminator" — a lean sci-fi slasher that's both exciting and foreboding — shows that Cameron could still spin gold with more modest tools.
Even if "The Terminator" isn't much of an actor's picture, it's well-cast, particularly Michael Biehn as haggard time traveler Kyle Reese and, of course, Arnold Schwarzenegger as the titular cyborg assassin. This film was a key step in Schwarzenegger's climb to being the biggest movie star in the world. Even so, it's something of a Hollywood legend how these two weren't the initial picks for these roles.
In particular, it's spread through the grapevine that O.J. Simpson was considered to star as the Terminator.

Killer cyborgs, A-list megastars, groundbreaking visual effects And a kick-ass soundtrack! It can mean only one thing. Yes, that’s right, good friends of JoBlo, uber director James Cameron is back to show us exactly how to follow up one of the biggest smash hits of your career with a sequel that had to surpass the expectations of even the most hardcore fan of the original movie, and also show the world how to revolutionize modern VFX…Again. Cameron had already wowed audiences with The Terminator back in 1984 and had proven that he could create impressive sequels to existing sci-fi franchises with the action-heavy Aliens in 1986. He’d also made great strides with visual effects in 1989’s The Abyss so could his original vision of having a liquid terminator in the franchise really work?

"He asks that his friend, who was wrongfully imprisoned, be set free. Under the guise of his rumored death, the two create the vigilante El Pantera to rid the city of the Mexican mob..."

Intro: There’s one line that will forever go down in movie history as one of the most iconic moments of dialogue ever, and it was almost never to be. While filming the 1984 sci-fi / action / horror classic The Terminator, director James Cameron had initially written the line for Arnold Schwarzenegger as “I’ll come back”. However, as seen in the recent Netflix documentary series on the Austrian Oak, Arnie and Cameron had a heated clash over the line. Schwarzenegger hadn’t said the line correctly so Cameron suggested he just say the now iconic “I’ll be back” instead, leading Arnie to questioning the director’s writing, and getting a suitably pissed-off response in return.
This is just one example of how The Terminator not only became one of the most beloved movie franchises in Hollywood history, well, it is if you stop at part two that is, but that’s a story for later.

“Being from a small country is not an obstacle but a plus because you have a story no one has heard of,” Lithuanian actor and showrunner Gabija Siurbyte (“Troll Farm”) told the TV Beats panel during this week’s Industry@Tallinn & Baltic Event, hosted by the Black Nights Film Festival. It was the kind of optimism and can-do spirit that characterized the industry forum, which comprised an impressive range of industry panels, workshops and pitching sessions, as well as including a few innovations of its own.

This year’s Rhode Island Comic Con guest list boasted big names like Anthony Daniels, Carl Weathers, Carrie-Anne Moss, Christina Ricci, Evangeline Lilly, Ron Perlman, Katey Sagal, Linda Hamilton, and Marissa Tomei, to name a few, alongside hundreds of vendors and artists.

It's all too easy to miss your big chance in Hollywood, whether it's by ending up in a flop through no fault of your own or missing the wrong phone call. It's a career tragedy that can happen to anyone, and it creates agonizing memories for stars still at the top of their careers. Just ask Bill Murphy about the time he did pick up his phone and wound up with a gig in "Garfield." That involved a mix-up over last names but it goes to show that anything can happen. To anyone.
The good news? Not every movie madness mixup ends in disaster. One star's missed call might be another's golden hour. A tragedy behind the scenes can create an opportunity for a fresh and far better take on a character. Science fiction definitely isn't exempt from Hollywood chaos, and in the case of some of our favorite movies,...

Here’s a roundup of their reactions so far:

‘Terminator’ Producer Says James Cameron Cut Scene After Financiers Forced Him to Cast Their Friends
The Terminator producer Gale Anne Hurd is revealing the key scene that director James Cameron cut from the 1984 film because financiers made him include their friends in it.
The producer-writer took to X (formerly known as Twitter) on Wednesday to share the scene in question, which shows how Cyberdyne Systems, the tech corporation responsible for the development of Skynet, got the computer chip that goes inside Terminators.

Just about every movie leaves scenes on the cutting room floor, and The Terminator was no exception. However, one deleted scene from the James Cameron movie has always left Terminator fans wondering why it was dropped, and franchise producer Gale Anne Hurd has now explained the reason why.
The Terminator deleted scene took place at the end of the movie and featured a pair of scientists recovering pieces from the destroyed T-800. It’s revealed that they’re from Cyberdyne, the very company that would go on to develop Skynet. Given that this scene helped complete the time loop, some fans believed that it should have been left in, but Gale Anne Hurd explained that James Cameron axed it because of the non-professional actors he was forced to use.

“The Terminator” producer Gale Anne Hurd revealed on X/Twitter that James Cameron removed a crucial scene from the 1984 action movie after financiers forced him to use their friends in it. The scene in question provided important context about how Cyberdyne Systems, the tech corporation responsible for the creation of Skynet, came into possession of the technological chip that gets placed inside of Terminators.
“‘The Terminator’ financier John Daly’s Hemdale Films had an output deal with Orion Pictures, but hadn’t yet made a hit (that changed with our film and ‘Platoon’),” Hurd explained on Twitter/X. “They insisted we use financier friends not actors in this scene, which ruined it for us.”
The financier’s friends “were paid as actors, via the Taft Hartley act,” Hurd added. “I think [Daly] insisted they be in the film because the financiers were promised a return on their investment and had yet to receive one.

In his 16th weekly installment of the Deadline Strike Talk Podcast, Billy Ray continues to explore ways that the shifting sands of the entertainment business can settle in a manner that pleases shareholders of the corporations paying for content, and the talent responsible for creating it with the traditional understanding they share in the upside of success. Joining him are two titan producers who make films and TV on independent and blockbuster levels. Gale Anne Hurd’s credits range from the universes of The Walking Dead and Terminator, and many others. Glen Basner’s FilmNation has been a cornerstone catalyst of independent and studio films and TV. Also, Billy Ray has decided that the word “producer’ no longer belongs in the AMPTP, because these cohorts in content creation are not the ones he and other writers and actors are striking against. He explains why, from now forward, the collection of...

YouTube is an unparalleled community and resource. It’s the only place I’m sure to find my acting and directing work, like unseen audition clips from our Bill & Ted movies or a terrible KFC commercial I acted in as a pre-teen that my son sleuthed out. As a director of documentaries, YouTube is a mainstay for my researchers and often where we discover the most critical archive material, whatever the topic. But YouTube is also home to some of the darkest and most dangerous content online. It continues to negatively influence and radicalize users,...

With Lennie James bowing out of Fear the Walking Dead, it seems the series is being handed back to many of its original stars.
AMC went public with the official trailer for the back half of Fear the Walking Dead Season 8 on Friday during a Twd universe San Diego Comic-Con panel.
"Now that Shrike (Maya Eshet) and her influence are gone, Madison (Kim Dickens) sets sights on transforming Padre into the safe haven the old Stadium was meant to be," the logline teases.
"But in doing so the island becomes a target as well as a beacon as word of Madison and this land of resources spreads, attracting unwanted attention that puts Padre back in peril and questions whether our heroes even deserve to save it."
Fear the Walking Dead Season 8 Episode 6 wrapped with several significant developments that will shake up the dynamics as we head into these final episodes.

The Walking Dead producer Gale Anne Hurd has called for U.S. and European countries to strike formal co-production agreements to support indie films and TV shows.
“There are no co-production agreements between U.S. and European countries, so what many of us have done is partner with countries that do have them, like Canada and the UK,” said Hurd at the Audio-Visual Producers Summit in Italy. “That’s what I’ve been doing: putting those pieces together. Can we today move to find legitimnate co-production agreements between the U.S. and European countries?”
The Valhalla Entertainment founder and Terminator producer revealed she had “struggled for a year” to get distribution for her latest film project The YouTube Effect, in a tough environment for indie productions. “Everyone turned us down but we went ahead anyway because we had supportive financiers who believed in the project and now we’re in distribution,...

James Cameron is literally saying, “I told you so” in response to the rise of AI. In an interview with CTV News, the filmmaker referenced his sci-fi classic The Terminator while sharing his concerns about the threat artificial intelligence poses to humanity.
“I warned you guys in 1984, and you didn’t listen,” he told Chief Political Correspondent Vassy Kapelos, explaining that we have to examine who is developing the technology and whether they are doing it for profit (“teaching it greed”) or for military defense (“teaching it paranoia”).
He continued, “I think that we will get into the equivalent of a nuclear arms race with AI, and if we don’t build it, the other guys are for sure going to build it, and so then it’ll escalate. You could imagine an AI in a combat theater, the whole thing just being fought by the computers at a speed humans can no longer intercede,...

Exclusive: Moviegoers who catch Alex Winter’s new documentary The YouTube Effect can expect a cinematic bonus: We can reveal the film is preceded by a short documentary for the National Courtwatch Network narrated by Fiona Apple, with original music by the singer-songwriter.
The four-and-a-half minute long short, which also features narration from actor Jesse Williams and Dr. Carmen Johnson of Courtwatch PG, examines a growing movement to bring accountability to the judicial system by training court watchers to observe judicial proceedings “and report their findings to the public.”
The movement picked up steam during the pandemic when many court proceedings were made available online, allowing Courtwatch volunteers around the country to monitor arraignments, bond hearings and other judicial matters that might otherwise go unwitnessed by members of the public.

Chris Alexander is nervous. Although he’s known filmmaking legend Roger Corman for 20 years, having interviewed him and engaged with him on a personal level numerous times over two decades, he’s never met the man in person.
“It’s the first time I’m actually going to be sitting down with this man,” Alexander says as we await Corman’s arrival. “I mean, [he’s] my hero.”
The occasion of this momentous meeting is a signing event at iconic Los Angeles horror bookstore Dark Delicacies for Alexander’s new book, Corman/Poe: Interviews and Essays Exploring the Making of Roger Corman’s Edgar Allan Poe Films, 1960-1964, which is exactly what the title describes: a collection of analytical essays about the entire cycle of Corman’s films based on the works of Edgar Allan Poe, interspersed with interviews about each title with the producer/director.

Los Angeles, June 8 (Ians) In Hollywood star Arnold Schwarzenegger’s new Netflix documentary ‘Arnold’, the actor and James Cameron remembered clashing over the iconic “I’ll be back” line from 1984’s ‘The Terminator’.

What do you want from the movies this year?
Cheaper tickets? Smarter superheroes? A love story and five watchable Oscar films?
Personally, I would settle for one great line.
You know, the kind that immediately transcends whatever picture gave it birth. It is echoed, referenced, repeated, misquoted, and, finally, embedded so deeply in our brains that we can barely communicate without it. “Show me the money!” “Make my day.” “Toto, I have a feeling we’re not in Kansas anymore.”
That memorable lines have evaporated from film is hardly a revelation. When the American Film Institute compiled its list of the 100 best movie quotes in 2005, only one 21st Century quote made the list. That would be the words “My precious,” from The Lord Of The Rings: The Two Towers, released in 2002.
Film hasn’t gotten more eloquent since. Just last week, The Wall Street Journal noted that Keanu Reeves speaks...

The screenplay for The Terminator is credited to Cameron and producer Gale Anne Hurd, although Cameron has said that, while Hurd did suggest edits to the script, she didn’t actually do any writing on the film.
