Bill Maher is expanding his Club Random podcast into a network, with plans to launch a new show with sports journalist Sage Steele.
Maher, host of HBO’s Real Time, is teaming with his co-creators and executive producer Chris Case and Chuck Labella in the venture, with plans to feature celebrity talent who want to “try something different and span a wide variety of personalities and interests,” according to an announcement.
Club Random Studios, as the venture is named, will debut The Sage Steele Show later today. In a statement, Maher said that the former ESPN anchor is “the perfect choice to be our first new host because, like me, she pissed off Disney. There’s a certain poetic symmetry to that.”
Maher said, “My lifelong goal has been to get the kind of conversation we have in life – utterly real, completely authentic, cleaned up for no one – on the air.

After two years of hosting his own podcast, Bill Maher will help others do the same with Club Random Studios, a podcast network and entertainment hub aiming to champion “authenticity from unfiltered celebrity voices.”
Besides Maher’s own “Club Random,” the network’s first show is “The Sage Steele Show,” hosted by Sage Steele, dropping March 27. Steele joined ESPN as an anchor in 2007 and climbed the ranks at the network until she was suspended without pay over controversial comments she made on another podcast. She sued ESPN and settled last year. Upcoming guests on “The Sage Steele Show” include Dana White, Howie Mandel, Sharon Osbourne, Jillian Michaels, Drea DeMatteo, Adam Carolla, Reggie Watts and Steve Garvey.
In a statement announcing the new venture, Maher said, “Dance like no one’s watching? We talk like no one can cancel us.”

A lot of stand-up comedians have bad nights, but only a select few get leaked to mainstream media and prove to be TMZ fodder. But that’s just what happened to Nick Swardson at a recent gig, showing up on stage inebriated to the point that he couldn’t go on with his act and was escorted off stage.
In clips that surfaced online, Nick Swardson is seen repeatedly saying, “Here we go” and referring to Jason Statham in The Beekeeper, teasing an impression that never quite materialized in the way Swardson probably intended. This was quickly greeted with boos and walk-outs. At one point he asks, “Do you want me to finish this or no?” Tickets buyers did not, to which Swardson sloppily responded, “But what if… I finish this?” He was not allowed to finish his set, being taken off stage around 20 minutes in. At this point, a stage manager told the crowd,...

Robert F. Kennedy Jr. continued campaign fundraising in Los Angeles Wednesday night with a stand-up comedy event hosted by the independent presidential candidate’s wife and actress Cheryl Hines.
The A Night of Laughter With Rfk Jr. & Friends evening at the Million Dollar Theater included performances by Jeremy Piven, Bobby Lee, Rob Schneider, Tre Stewart, Mike Binder, Erica Rhodes, Dustin Ybarra and radio host and podcaster Adam Carolla.
The benefit event, with an after party for $1000 Silver and $1500 Gold contributors, was part of a string of comedy shows planned for across the U.S. as the Rfk Jr. campaign looks to continue raising campaign funds. The first-time presidential candidate is polling in the mid- to high single digits in key U.S. states, according to RealClearPolitics.
That’s enough to potentially pull votes away from U.S. president Joe Biden and former president Donald Trump, both of whom are currently expected to be the U.

One of the largest radio companies in the U.S., Audacy, said Sunday that it would file for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection after reaching a deal with its debt holders to restructure.
Audacy owns some of the most high-profile radio stations in the U.S., including L.A.’s infamous alternative station Kroq, Kcbs and Knx, as well as New York’s 1010 Wins news station, Wcbs talk station, and Wfan, the country’s first sports radio station.
Audacy owns more than 200 radio stations across the country, and also operates dozens of digital radio channels. The company also has partnerships with companies like Warner Bros. Discovery and Bloomberg LP.
Audacy was created after the merger of Entercom and CBS Radio in 2017, when CBS was looking to exit its non-tv businesses.
In a statement Sunday, the company said the deal with debt holders will reduce its debt load by about 80%, from $1.9 billion to $350 million.

On May 5, 1979, the writers of Fantasy Island made a strange decision. After 35 successful episodes in which guests paid to live out dreams such as being a king, marrying a millionaire, finding the fountain of youth and having a harem, they offered viewers “The Comic,” in which a guy gets to be a stand-up.
Over the next decades, industries would rise to whisk money from middle-aged middle management in exchange for fulfilling their deepest wishes. Actor Suzanne Somers had big plans to celebrate turning 77 – one idea was to pose for Playboy once again. But the enduring actor died a day shy of her birthday after a decades-long battle with an aggressive form of breast cancer.
Despite facing illness for many years, Somers joyfully embraced her age and worked tirelessly to maintain her health. In April, she said she was ready for just about anything.
“I haven’t pursued it, but it’s on the bucket list,” she said on the Behind the Velvet Rope with David Yontef podcast. “How interesting that would be? I look good without my clothes on.”
When did Suzanne Somers pose in Playboy?
Somers posed for Playboy twice in the past, in 1980 and 1984. At the time, her pictorial was considered to be somewhat “scandalous” because Hollywood stars didn’t readily pose for the magazine. She shared why she posed the first time.

The only thing more extra than a surprise birthday party might be a surprise birthday party live on cable TV – and that’s what Chris Cuomo got to celebrate his 53rd.
“Cuomo” was setting up to take viewer phone calls on Wednesday night when producer Alexandra “Dusty” Cohen stopped the host cold:
“You’ve got to listen to me – this is important. It’s your birthday, and we’re not taking calls. You’re just gonna listen to me and be quiet,” she said, basically asking the impossible of the talkative NewsNation anchor. “We put something together for you because we love you. I love you. A lot of people love you. … Be quiet and take a look.”
The first face onscreen belonged to Bill O’Reilly, Cuomo’s longtime friend – and one of the former CNN anchor’s many close media pals with whom he doesn’t share political views.

Norm Pattiz, the founder of the Westwood One syndicated programming network, died Dec. 6 at age 79.
The cause of death was not revealed by officials at Westwood One parent company Cumulus Media.
Pattiz began as a salesman with Los Angeles television station Kcop (Channel 13), but left there in 1976 to start Westwood One.
In 1985, the company purchased Mutual Broadcasting System, one of the biggest radio networks in the United States. Two years later, the company acquired the NBC Radio Network.
In the early 1990s, control of Westwood One shifted to Mel Karmazin and Infinity Broadcasting (later acquired by CBS Radio). Pattiz remained chairman of the company until 2010, at which point he moved on to found the on-demand audio network, PodcastOne.
Pattiz helped propel on-demand audio into the mainstream, first with an on-demand version of the Adam Carolla show, and later through partnerships with such brands as the Los Angeles Lakers basketball team.

Riley’s newest triumph marks her second major win on a TV reality show competition. In 2013, she and her dance partner, Derek Hough, took home the coveted mirrorball trophy of Dancing with the Stars season 17.
Other celebrities, including Gladys Knight and Margaret Cho, have attempted both competitions, however, Riley is the only one to have ever achieved the double feat.

It was a “Battle of the Semi Finals” on “The Masked Singer” airing Thursday, November 24. Harp, Lambs and Snowstorm had each taken out the competition in their respective rounds and went head-to-head in the first ever three-way Battle Royale. After performing “Thinking of You” by Katy Perry and “Since U Been Gone” by Kelly Clarkson, it was Snowstorm that came up short of reaching the Season 8 finale, revealing herself to be comedian Nikki Glaser.
“It was the first dream that I ever had,” the actress told host Nick Cannon during her unmasked interview. “It was squashed at such a young age and it just became something that was unattainable to me. When this opportunity came up it was so perfect. I think what held me back is that everyone knew I was a comedian, so everyone was like, ‘Don’t sing, no one wants to hear that. It’s like Michael Jordan playing baseball.

Two all new celebrities in disguise took to “The Masked Singer” stage for “Fright Night” on Wednesday, November 23, singing their hearts out and coming for Snowstorm’s crown. After giving a soulful rendition of “Devil With the Blue Dress On” by Mitch Ryder & the Detroit Wheels, Sir Bug a Boo advanced to the evening’s Battle Royale, only to be bested by Snowstorm after singing “Somebody’s Watching Me” by Rockwell. The entire panel consisting of Robin Thicke, Jenny McCarthy, Ken Jeong and Nicole Scherzinger failed to correctly guess Grammy-winning swinger-songwriter Ray Parker Jr. was behind the mask.
“I saw it last year when y’all thought I was Bobby Brown,” Parker Jr. told Nick Cannon during his unmasked interview. “They put my head on the character and I was like, ‘What the heck is that?'” To his friends, family and fans watching at home, the accomplished musician said,...

Two all new celebrities in disguise took to “The Masked Singer” stage for “Fright Night” on Wednesday, November 23, singing their hearts out and coming for Snowstorm’s crown. After giving a spooktacular performance of “Abracadabra” by the Steve Miller Band, Scarecrow voluntarily withdrew from the competition prior to the evening’s Battle Royale. The “wicked” performer was revealed to be Academy Award nominee and Golden Globe winner Linda Blair.
“Let me tell you what you do for me and for the world,” Blair told host Nick Cannon and panelists Robin Thicke, Jenny McCarthy, Ken Jeong and Nicole Scherzinger during her unmasked interview. “You take us out of what is the most difficult time in history, right now, for one hour a week of entertainment. I deal with animals being abused, thrown away on the streets. I have a foundation called the The Linda Blair Worldheart Foundation. I travel the world.
