The buzz around this year’s Stagecoach Festival, kicking off Friday in Indio, California, is among the loudest in the country music fest’s 16-year history. Tickets sold out in less than a month after going on sale last September — hitting that mark months before sister festival Coachella — and giving Stagecoach its biggest sales ever. Credit that to the current country music boom and to a stellar lineup put together by Stacy Vee, EVP of festival talent for Goldenvoice, the promoter behind Coachella and Stagecoach.

When Hardy dropped the Joe Diffie-themed third volume of his Hixtape series on Friday, he did so with an army of country cameos: Blake Shelton, Chris Young, Clint Black, Darius Rucker, Hailey Whitters, and Koe Wetzel all turn up on various tracks. But it’s the inclusion of Toby Keith that’s the most poignant. His appearance on “Ships That Don’t Come In,” with Luke Combs, is his final studio performance before his death in February.

“The Masked Singer” has showcased some memorable duos over the years, beginning with the Snow Owls in season 4, who turned out to be country music legend Clint Black and his wife, actress Lisa Hartman Black. This season a pair of pals are performing as Beets.
They took to the stage for the first time on the March 13 episode and won over the audience and judges Ken Jeong, Jenny McCarthy, Rita Ora and Robin Thicke with their cover of the Michael Buble hit “Home.”
Beets are two men, each of whom has a distinctive sound but whose voices blend together so effortlessly. It was no surprise when they revealed, “We’re the best of friends and we’re pretty good co-stars too.” That latter phrase led two of the judges down the wrong path with their guesses of Will Arnett & Jason Bateman (Rita) and Steve Martin & Martin Short (Robin). Today’s country artists love to namecheck icons like Hank Williams, Johnny Cash, and Waylon Jennings in their songs and during interviews. But sonically, they owe their greatest debt to Jimmy Buffett, whose tropical vibes, beachy imagery, and ocean escapism has shaped the last two decades of mainstream country. Buffett died Friday at 76, leaving an undeniable legacy that is still heard in the songs of country radio and warrants future induction into the Country Music Hall of Fame.

A statement shared on his website and social media late Friday, read, “Jimmy passed away peacefully on the night of September 1st surrounded by his family, friends, music and dogs. He lived his life like a song till the very last breath and will be missed beyond measure by so many.”
Buffett died at his home in Sag Harbor, Long Island, following a four-year battle with Merkel cell skin cancer, according to his obituary posted on his website Saturday. If you really want to understand where Jason Aldean’s “Try That in a Small Town” comes from, you have to go all the way back to Richard Nixon — and before that, George Wallace. We love “The Masked Singer” and are thrilled that another set of famous faces is paired up in season 6, disguised this time as Banana Split. In season 4, we had the Snow Owls (who turned out to be husband and wife Clint Black and Lisa Hartman) and in season 5 the Russian Dolls were revealed to be the Hanson brothers.
The duo that is hidden inside the Banana Split costume first performed on the September 29 episode of “The Masked Singer,” made their second appearance on the October 13 episode and returned to compete again on November 3. That last performance earned them a place in the Group B semifinal on November 17 where they edged out Caterpillar and Mallard for a spot in the final. On December 8, they face the Queen of Hearts for a place in the final against the Group A champion, Bull.

After five weeks of competition, two front-runners have emerged as the likeliest to win Fox’s “The Masked Singer” Season 6: Banana Split and Bull. In the fourth season of “The Masked Singer,” Clint Black and Lisa Hartman Black became the first duo ever to perform as a single costume, Snow Owls. The following season, the sibling boy band known as Hanson competed together as a trio of Russian Dolls. Neither act won the competition. (See the “Tms” winners list.) Now in Season 6, Banana Split is trying to do what the Blacks and the brothers couldn’t, by making history as the first duo/group to claim the “Masked Singer” trophy.
This yummy costume is unique in that both people wearing a mask can move independently and “split” from each other. During Banana Split’s debut performance of Pink‘s “A Million Dreams” in the third episode, the ice cream portion walked around the stage and belted out the lyrics, while the yellow fruit portion sat confidently and played the piano.

Spoiler Alert: Do not read ahead if you have not watched Season 5 Episode 11 of “The Masked Singer,” which aired May 12 on Fox.
Hanson has been mmm-bop’ed off “The Masked Singer.” The pop star brothers were unmasked on Wednesday’s episode as the Russian Dolls.
The trio became the first group to compete on the show; last season, the couple Clint Black and Lisa Hartman performed as a duo under the Snow Owls costume. But the Hanson brothers told Variety they were attracted to the idea of pulling off another “Masked Singer” first. Early on, the show’s panelists couldn’t even figure out how many performers were on stage.
“It was very clear from the beginning they loved the idea of playing the game,” Zac Hanson said. “It was, ‘Hey, let’s play with this idea of how many people are on stage.’ Whenever we could, we tried to keep playing that game.

As she tends to do, Kelly Clarkson is proving that when it comes to delivering a good story, there's not really such thing as Tmi. During the Thursday, April 8 episode of The Kelly Clarkson Show, the 38-year-old star interviewed country music legend Clint Black. During their chat, Clint promoted an upcoming episode of his talk show Talking in Circles in which singer Sara Evans shared an incident involving her need to urinate during a concert. "How many of us haven't peed on stage?" he asked, perhaps rhetorically. As it turned out, Kelly was more than ready to up the ante, and we're not sure that he was quite prepared for the anecdote she was about to unleash. Come to think of it,...

“Step right up and welcome to the three-ring circus known as ‘The Masked Singer,'” proclaimed Niecy Nash at the top of Wednesday’s season premiere. “They promised you game-changers this season and you’ve got your first one. A new guest host — me, Niecy Nash. Nick Cannon, I’m sending you all the good vibes. Hopefully we’ll see you later this season.” So what happened to Nick Cannon on “The Masked Singer” and why does he need “good vibes”? As it turns out, he was diagnosed with Covid-19 just prior to the start of production on Season 5, so producers hired a temporary replacement as he recovered at home. There is no word yet on when he will return.

The Masked Singer is getting a new host — temporarily, at least.
Niecy Nash will stand in for Nick Cannon fronting the first batch of episodes of the Fox competition reality series after the entertainer contracted Covid-19, Deadline has confirmed.
This comes as production on Season 5 is set to start Thursday in Los Angeles. The show is set to return in March. Cannon is expected to return for later episodes once he recovers.
Nash has history with the network; she was a guest panelist on The Masked Singer last season and was a panelist on I Can See Your Voice, the network’s other mystery talent format, and has appeared in Fox’s Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Scream Queens, The Bernie Mac Show and Family Guy.
Season 4 wrapped in December with LeAnn Rimes as the winner. That season featured 16 contestants, including the show’s first duet costume with Clint Black and Lisa Hartman Black as the Snow Owls,...

On Wednesday’s two-hour season closer, we learned that McCarthy had won the coveted prize — well, less coveted than the Golden Mask trophy, but pretty important to the judges competing for it. The overall competition was won by Sun, who...

Spoiler Alert: Do not read ahead if you have not watched Season 4, Episode 12 of “The Masked Singer,” which aired Dec. 9 on Fox.
The unmaskings took a week off, as Wednesday’s episode of Fox’s “The Masked Singer” was instead a special one-hour holiday-themed sing-a-long edition.

Besides reprises of performances from earlier in the season, the episode also featured new, holiday-themed songs from the show’s three finalists: Sun, Crocodile and Mushroom.
Sun performed “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree,” while Crocodile sang “Silent Night” and Mushroom did “The Christmas Song.”
Panelists, Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg, Nicole Scherzinger, Robin Thicke and Ken Jeong also got a week off from the guessing game.

Popcorn proved she had a voice like butter in her last appearance on “The Masked Singer” on November 11. Back then she made it into the final six competing on December 2 by winning her Smackdown against the Snow Owls. After Popcorn nailed her cover of “(Everything I Do) I Do It for You” by Bryan Adams, the Snow Owls were revealed to be country singer Clint Black and his actress wife Lisa Hartman.
Popcorn was in peril on episode 7 when the four judges were not won over by her cover of “Domino” by Jessie J. That song was not suited to her powerhouse vocals. Popcorn had shone earlier in the competition with her rendition of the Pink chart-topper “What About Us” on the premiere episode and her cover of the Harry Styles ballad “Falling” on episode 3.
We’ve watched all of those performances by Popcorn again as well as her clues videos.

Guest judge Cheryl Hines joined Robin Thicke, Ken Jeong, Jenny McCarthy and Nicole Scherzinger on the panel this week.

Can Popcorn come from behind to win the coveted Golden Mask trophy on Season 4 of “The Masked Singer”? After the Sun blazed her own path into the Super Six by earning the most votes in the Group A finals, the salty snack joined her by proving the heat only makes her pop harder. Popcorn took out the Snow Owls by belting out Bryan Adams‘ “(Everything I Do) I Do it For You” in the season’s first smackdown. Now the buttery diva is one step closer to the sweet taste of victory.
Popcorn made it clear from the beginning that she has the chops to go the distance. After belting out “What About Us” by Pink in Episode 1, panelist Robin Thicke said she gave the most outstanding performance of the night. In Episode 3 we saw Popcorn slow things down with a spine-tingling performance of “Falling” by Harry Styles. In Episode...

Nicole Scherzinger is using a wild method to guess the identity of an even wilder contestant on Wednesday’s episode of “The Masked Singer.”
In TheWrap’s exclusive sneak-peek clip from tomorrow’s Group B finals, Scherzinger tells her fellow judges and guest panelist Cheryl Hines that she thinks the marshmallow clue they just received about Whatchamacallit is the key to discovering his true identity.
“We saw the whistle, made me think of the NBA. So I’m thinking basketball players, right?… We saw marshmallows, makes me think of a name that I know. Carmelo Anthony from the Portland Trail Blazers!”
When host Nick Cannon jokes that Whatchamacallit might be too short to match up with the 6-foot, 8-inch NBA player, Scherzinger points out that the contestant’s one eyeball is pretty high up on his head.
