Over the past week or so, Apple Music has slowly unveiled the titles included in its list of the “100 best albums.” Today, the top 10 albums were revealed, with Miss Lauryn Hill’s The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill claiming the No. 1 spot. Rounding out the top five are Michael Jackson’s Thriller; The Beatles’ Abbey Road; Prince’s Purple Rain; and Frank Ocean’s Blonde.
The top 10 also includes Stevie Wonder’s Songs in the Key of Life; Kendrick Lamar’s good kid, m.A.A.d city (Deluxe Version); Amy Winehouse’s Back to Black; Nirvana’s Nevermind; and Beyoncé’s Lemonade.
In all honestly, it’s a pretty safe top 10, especially considering the drama that unfolded when Apple unveiled picks 11-20 and slotted Adele’s 21 at No. 15 and Taylor Swift’s 1989 (Taylor’s Version) at No. 18 — ahead of albums like Dr. Dre’s The Chronic, The Beach Boys’ Pet Sounds,...

Rm wrote and recorded the project prior to beginning his compulsory period in the South Korean military — while his bandmate Jin is set to finish his enlistment in June of 2024, Rm won’t complete his time until June 2025. Until then, this project “marks his return after one year and five months” and “reveals an added layer of his unique artistic depth.” Recently, BTS member j-hope unveiled a docuseries and accompanying mixtape titled Hope on the Street, which had also been recorded prior to enlisting.

It was just last week we were celebrating the 20th anniversary of Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, which catapulted Michel Gondry into the Hollywood system with the likes of Be Kind Rewind and The Green Hornet. After the failure of that superhero tentpole, he retreated back to France, directing a handful of smaller-scale features, the latest of which, The Book of Solutions, gets meta following a filmmaker struggling with the editing of his big-budget project. Gondry is now mounting his return to Hollywood, the details of which have now been unveiled.
Deadline reports he’s directing an untitled coming-of-age musical, which is loosely inspired by the upbringing of Pharrell Williams. Set to star Kelvin Harrison Jr. and Da’Vine Joy Randolph, coming off her Oscar win for The Holdovers, the Universal-backed project is set in 1977 Virginia Beach. Long after the businesses surrounding them have shut down for the day, Stephen “Ragga” Marley and Damian “Jr. Gong” Marley are putting their band through its paces, tuning up for the Traffic Jam tour, which will be crisscrossing the U.S. and Canada through Mar. 30.

The Book of Clarence: New trailer shows how far Clarence is willing to go to prove he’s not a nobody
The new trailer for The Book of Clarence has been released. While the previous trailer showcased a soulful, satirical tone, this new one brings the gladiator action as Clarence is now shown to be confronted by James McAvoy’s Roman character, who proposes a challenge for our blasphemous character.
The outrageous mind of Jeymes Samuel, who last brought us Netflix‘s The Harder They Fall, is tackling complex themes in his new biblical satire from TriStar Pictures and Legendary. The Book of Clarence sees Lakeith Stanfield doing the unthinkable — posing as humanity’s next lord and savior. Stanfield is joined by an all-star cast that features the acting talents of Omar Sy, Rj Cyler, Benedict Cumberbatch, James McAvoy, Anna Diop, Teyana Taylor, David Oyelowo, Alfre Woodard, and Marianne Jean-Baptiste. Additionally, the cast also includes Caleb McLaughlin, Babs Olusanmokun, Eric Kofi-Abrefa, Nicholas Pinnock, Micheal Ward, Chase Dillon, Tom Glynn-Carney, and Tom Vaughan-Lawlor.

Los Angeles music and food festival LA3C took a unique approach for the event’s second year, as several thousand attendees made their way through about a half-mile stretch of Downtown LA’s historic core this past weekend from November 10th through the 12th. But rather than occupy a traditional festival ground focused around one larger main stage like it did last year at LA State Historic Park, the festival instead took a decidedly more intimate approach this time and booked four historic, couple thousand-cap venues along Broadway: the Orpheum Theatre,...

To celebrate Moschino’s 40th anniversary, four celebrated stylists were asked to create a collection inspired by Franco Moschino’s iconic designs in the period between 1983 — when the designer’s flair and creative genius broke into the monotony of Milanese fashion with his innovative and unusual clothes — and 1993, the year of the last fashion show before his untimely death.
Carlyne Cerf de Dudzeele, Katie Grand, Gabriella Karefa-Johnson and Lucia Liu are the creative souls who were given the task of putting together the collection, after the departure of previous creative director Jeremy Scott. Sitting in the front row was an attentive and vigiliant Alberta Ferretti — founder of the Aeffe group, the brand owner’s — enjoying the fruits of their labor, on such an important anniversary and with a fitting tribute to the brand’s founder.
For the show, titled “40 Years of Love,” each stylist brought 10 personal interpretations of Moschino’s unmistakable style.

Much ado has been made about Doja Cat’s fourth studio album, Scarlet, being an intentional swerve away from pop and toward purer hip-hop. Part of what distinguishes Doja’s flow is her ability to weave fluently between not just singing and rapping, but various subgenres, and while the album certainly places a premium on her rapped verses, it also cycles through a number of stylistic approaches. If there’s a notable difference between Scarlet and Doja’s past releases, then, it’s that the songwriting feels aimless, almost incoherent.
Scarlet unfolds with Doja trying out one stylistic mode for two to three songs and then moving on to the next. The infectious opener “Paint the Town Red” is arguably the album’s most pop-forward moment and functions as something of a bridge between Scarlet and 2021’s Planet Her. And “Demons” and “Wet Vagina” sport menacing beats that support Doja...

Doja Cat, aka She of the Many Spiders, has sadly let the sun to set on one of the quirkiest album rollouts in recent memory — even by Doja standards — with the release of Scarlet, her fourth LP. The 15-track album, which includes the singles “Attention,” “Paint the Town Red,” “Demons,” and “Balut,” is out now.
But what a web she wove to get to this point.
In May, she started tweeting things like “scarlet was here” and “scarlet’s watching” and “let myself heal, scar finally sealed.” She topped that...

After months of speculation, Conde Nast confirmed this morning that Chioma Nnadi, the current editor of US Vogue’s website, has been tapped to replace Edward Enninful as the head of British Vogue.
Nnadi — a native Londoner who has been based in New York since 2010 — will take office on October 9. As part of wider restructuring plans at Conde Nast, Nnadi’s job title will be head of editorial content, rather than editor-in-chief. She is the first Black woman to hold the top job at the magazine.
Nnadi said her focus in the role will be on “digital storytelling” and keeping Vogue “interactive” in a statement given to The Guardian. Anna Wintour said Nnadi is an “editor and writer with an impeccable reputation” in a separate statement announcing the hire.

The outrageous mind of Jeymes Samuel, who last brought us Netflix’s The Harder They Fall, is tackling blasphemous themes in his new biblical satire from TriStar Pictures and Legendary. The Book of Clarence sees Lakeith Stanfield doing the unthinkable — posing as humanity’s next lord and savior. Stanfield is joined by an all-star cast that features the acting talents of Omar Sy, Rj Cyler, Benedict Cumberbatch, James McAvoy, Anna Diop, Teyana Taylor, David Oyelowo, Alfre Woodard, and Marianne Jean-Baptiste. Additionally, the cast also includes Caleb McLaughlin, Babs Olusanmokun, Eric Kofi-Abrefa, Nicholas Pinnock, Micheal Ward, Chase Dillon, Tom Glynn-Carney, and Tom Vaughan-Lawlor.
The synopsis reads, “Inspired by classic Hollywood epics set in biblical times, Legendary’s The Book of Clarence tells the tale of Clarence (Lakeith Stanfield), a down-on-his-luck denizen of Jerusalem embarking on a misguided attempt to capitalize on the rise of celebrity and influence of the Messiah for his own personal gain.

It’s 2003 and Jay-Z is planning a farewell concert at Madison Square Garden to celebrate his retirement from music.
But his bass player is unavailable. Adam Blackstone, a jack-of-all-trades who plays bass, drums, piano, organ, tuba and sousaphone — and is also a songwriter, producer, composer and everything else under the musical sun — is more than ready to step in.
Twenty years later, Blackstone, now 40, is still working closely with Jay-Z; both are Emmy winners for last year’s hip-hop-heavy Super Bowl halftime show. And the musician who has helped everyone from Rihanna to Justin Timberlake shine is stepping into his own limelight.
Rihanna performed during the Super Bowl Lvii halftime show in February.
After winning an Emmy in 2022 for music direction, Blackstone is nominated again. This time, however, he’s a double nominee. Not only is he competing for his work on Rihanna’s explosive Super Bowl performance (a nom...

Beyoncé showed her support for Lizzo during her show in Atlanta on Monday night, calling out the “About Damn Time” singer’s name and exclaiming her love for her.
In a clip from the Mercedes-Benz Stadium show circulating on social media, Beyoncé is seen performing her hit song “Break My Soul (The Queen’s Remix),” and during the part of the record where the singer name-checks iconic female musicians, she said, “Lizzo. I love you, Lizzo!”
Beyoncé’s support for Lizzo comes amid damaging allegations made against the latter in a lawsuit filed by three former dancers. The suit alleges that Lizzo and her company created a hostile work environment for the dancers, and further, there were accusations of sexual harassment related to incidents that allegedly took place between 2021 and 2023.

Los Angeles, Aug 15 (Ians) Tina Knowles shut down rumours that her daughter Beyonce travels with personal toilet seats while on tour.
“That is so ridiculous,” the mom of two told TMZ, reports pagesix.com.
Tina explained that the leaked backstage picture of a black container labeled “Beyonce Toilet Seats” was merely a part of the singer’s Renaissance World Tour set.
“Those are stands that you put fans on, they’re called toilet seats,” she said.
Tina, 69, added that the idea of her daughter requesting her own custom toilet seat for the bathroom was “too much”.
The rumours about Beyonce’s tour rider started earlier this month when a source told the US Sun that the “Cuff It” hitmaker can get anything she wants.

Concertgoers who showed up early and ready for Sunday’s stop on the “Renaissance World Tour” at FedEx Field in North Englewood, Maryland — adjacent to Washington, D.C., — were met with some frightening weather conditions.
A shelter-in-place warning was issued at around 6:30 p.m. Et, and the news was posted to Twitter by FedEx Field’s official account, telling fans how to proceed.
“Due to lightning in the area, we are currently under a shelter in place order,” the message read. “Fans outside of gates and in the parking lots are asked to return to their cars. All fans inside of the stadium are asked to shelter in place under covered concourse areas and ramps until further notice. Thank you for your patience.”

Beyonce’s six-year-old daughter Rumi made a rare appearance with Madonna backstage at the Renaissance World Tour.
Madonna shared a photo of her three daughters, Stella, Estere and Mercy, and her posing alongside Beyonce and Rumi.
Beyonce smiled in the photo while her long straight hair cascaded back. She was still in her stage makeup but wore a black floor-length robe.
Rumi is Beyonce and Jay-Z’s second child and twin to her brother Sir. Her older sister is 11-year-old Blue Ivy, who previously joined her mother on stage during the tour. The twins were born in June 2017 and Rumi’s name was chosen from the 13th century poet from Persia.
Madonna, who was recently recovering after being hospitalized, has six children in total. Her three daughters who attended the concert with her and their brother David Banda were adopted from Malawi. Her other two children, Lourdes and Rocco, are her only biological children.

Jennifer Hudson is still playing coy about her romance with Common — but still couldn’t help but compliment her rumoured beau.
The singer/actress/talk show was recently asked by paparazzi about whether or not she’d like to address speculation that she and Common are a couple, in video obtained by TMZ.
“The rumours say a lot of things,” Hudson, 41, said, before adding with a smile, “He’s a beautiful man, I will give you that.”
The pair, who connected on the set of the upcoming action-thriller “Breathe”, first sparked dating speculation in July 2022, when they were spotted out and about together.
When Et spoke to Hudson two months later, she addressed the romance rumours.
“People create their narratives of it and it’s like, Ok, you know, how you feel,” she told Et of the chatter. “We shot a film together and he played my husband. We gotta eat in between those moments.

The shade feels even more strange, considering Bey gave Badu a friendly shout-out on her track “Break My Soul” last year, along with nods to Lauryn Hill, Roberta Flack, Kelly Rowland, and Lizzo.

In America today, no one has a lock on conspiracy theory. It has become the air we breathe, the Kool-Aid we drink, the rabbit-hole ideology that defines too many of us. Yet conspiracy theories come in different shapes and sizes. Many are false, some are true. Many are bat-house crazy, some are more than plausible. All, in one way or another, work as metaphors: for the forces that collude in hiding things from us, for the sinister tantalizing truth that we aren’t allowed to see.
“They Cloned Tyrone” is a slow-burn inner-city sci-fi nightmare thriller, one that plays off the spirit of conspiracy theory that has often thrived — with justification — within Black culture. The Tuskegee experiment was a conspiracy that happened; its horrific impact on the hearts and minds of African-Americans is beyond measure. And in the 1970s, the belief that the CIA, linked by the war in Vietnam...

Erykah Badu re-wrote and re-recorded her hit song “Tyrone” for Netflix’s new movie “They Cloned Tyrone,” per a request from the film’s director Juel Taylor.
“Everybody I’ve ever talked to, as soon as I told them the [movie’s] title, they were like, ‘So Erykah Badu doing the song?’ and I’m like, ‘Trust me, I’m trying.’” Taylor said, describing the early stages of developing “They Cloned Tyrone,” which is his feature film directorial debut and stars Teyonah Parris, John Boyega and Jamie Foxx. At the time, he hoped he would be able to include a reimagined version of the Grammy-winner’s song.
“You don’t really think it’s going to happen,” Taylor said. “Serendipitously enough, I was able to pitch it to her, and she responded immediately. Thank God for Erykah Badu.”

Everything Doja Cat tweeted before June 2023 is gone. All of her trolling to her 5.6 million followers about the title of her forthcoming album, her denouncement of the pop genre, and her threats to quit music altogether — wiped. All the links to those posts lead back to the same error message: “Sorry, that tweet has been deleted.” It’s common practice for musicians to clear their Instagram feed in anticipation of a new era, but hitting a hard reset on Twitter is quintessentially Doja. Even before the social media app began...
