FX is developing an original film based on a controversial book contending that the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks could have been avoided. The cable network has acquired the rights to a two-hour telefilm written by Peter Lance based on his book 1000 Years for Revenge: International Terrorism and the FBI (The Untold Story). The project will be produced by the Wolper Organization and Warner Bros. Television. No target airdate has been set. In Revenge, published by HarperCollins' ReganBooks imprint in September, Lance traces 12 years of terrorist efforts masterminded by Ramzi Achmed Yousef, who had been plotting various attacks since his role in the first bombing of the World Trade Center in 1993. Revenge culminates in the events of Sept. 11, 2001, which could have been prevented by a more alert FBI, argues Lance, an investigative reporter who has produced TV projects for the likes of CBS, ABC and HBO.
