A full Free Movie of the Day is posted on the JoBlo Horror Movies YouTube channel every other day during the week – but on Fridays things get even freakier and a little more fun. Get your weekend started the right way by indulging in Friday Fright Nights! Every Friday, we’ll be taking a look at another genre movie you can watch in its entirety, free of charge, either on the YouTube channel linked above or in the video embed here.
This week’s Friday Fright Nights feature is basically a slasher movie, since it’s about someone knocking people off one-by-one in a place called Oldtown – which is also known as Hell Town. But directors Elizabeth Spear and Steve Balderson (who also wrote the screenplay with Michael Page and Chris Pudlo) took a very unique approach to making this slasher. The traditional concept of a sex show is very basic. One goes into a room and watches two people fuck, often in quite a basic and uninspiring way. There’s usually a bit of eye contact from the one on top, and sometimes some exaggerated objectification of the other one, but beyond that, there is little acknowledgement of the act of performance. In this short film, which screened as part of Outfest 2022, Steve Balderson takes that concept and reinvents it as a modern piece of performance art.
It’s an exploration of the concept of voyeurism but the effect is, initially, distancing. In the tradition of a certain type of New York theatre, stars Jonah Wheeler and Romeo Jace describe each action they are engaging in, and how it is making them feel, as they undertake a variety of intimate activities in a brightly lit spa room. It feels somewhat like.

Terror Films and Cyfuno Ventures have teamed-up to bring horror fans four titles. Their partnership will bring the following films to international markets: After Dark, Hell Town, Asylum the Lost Footage and Don't F&*k in the Woods. All four films will see global markets, beginning this January 29th. Recently, a sizzle reel was released for this four film launch and it can be found below. Terror Films promises to bring "Killer Creatures" and "Scary Ghosts" to audiences. The film After Dark involves seven college students, a flat tire and a strange drifter. All of these elements come together for a bloody good time. In Hell Town, Steve Balderson and Elizabeth Spear's film involves a melodramatic horror comedy series, involving three episodes. Asylum the Lost Footage will bring more chaos to the screen as several amateur ghost hunters go missing in an old mental hospital. Finally, the much revered...

As noted above, the invite for Steve Balderson's latest feature, El Ganzo, swore that something special was going to occur between a gay man of color and a white female within its running time. Here was an intriguing come-on, one hard to cold-shoulder, so I didn't. Happily, the film is a well-acted, beautifully shot, two-hander about a couple of gentle souls, thrown together by fate, who wind up the better for the confrontation.
Susan Traylor plays Lizzy, an attractive American tourist in Mexico on her way to a hotel. After her cab gets into an accident midway to her destination, she abandons her nonplussed driver, grabs her shoulder bag, and starts walking in the midday heat, seemingly stunned. Maybe she's received a slight concussion or maybe . . .
Many sunstruck hours later, Lizzy arrives at the hotel and falls instantly asleep even before the manager who shows her to her room can leave.

This morning’s Horror Highlights takes our readers to Hell Town, as Daily Dead did a Q&A with Steve Balderson, the co-writer/co-director of the film. Also: production details and an official poster for The Recall and UK release details for Blackburn.
Daily Dead’s Q&A with co-writer/co-director of Hell Town, Steve Balderson: “Debbie Rochon (Model Hunger, Return to Nuke ‘Em High, The Theater Bizarre) headlines as the hostess of the three surviving episodes of “Hell Town”, following the melodramatic, small-town and potentially short-lived lives of Krysten Day, Amanda Deibert, Owen Lawless, Ben Windholz, Jennifer Grace, and Balderson muse Pleasant Gehman.
Hell Town follows the melodramatic antics of high school seniors clashing over love, sex, and betrayal. In the middle of all the everyday drama of one-sided infatuations, backstabbing bitchiness, bottled-up sexuality, sibling rivalry and general small-town angst, the Letter Jacket Killer is killing students in a variety of sadistic ways.

WikiLeaks founder to judge films at the 21st Raindance Film Festival; 2013 line-up unveiled.Scroll down for full line-up of films
Julian Assange has joined the jury of the 21st Raindance Film Festival (Sept 25 - Oct 6), a London-based event that celebrates independent film in the UK and around the world.
The appointment is a controversial one. The Australian editor-in-chief and founder of WikiLeaks took refuge in the Ecuadorean embassy in London in June 2012 to avoid extradition to Sweden, where he is wanted for questioning about sexual assault allegations.
It is understood that he fears Sweden would extradite him to the Us, where he believes he is wanted in relation to WikiLeaks’ disclosure of a significant amount of classified Us military and diplomatic documents.
Commenting on Assange’s appointment, Raindance founder Elliot Grove said: “Every year Raindance invites interesting people to join our jury. In the past we have had musicians like Mick Jones, Marky Ramone and [link...

Daniela Sea is known for many things – her role as Max on The L Word, or her appearances in indie films like Itty Bitty Titty Committee and Shortbus. But you’ve never seen her quite like this. Clad in psychedelic late '60s fashion and decidedly “femmed up,” she plays sexually repressed housewife Jerome in Casserole Club, a 1960s period piece on the wild and wooly parties thrown by a group of secretly messed-up suburbanites.
Dark and layered, the flick – and the role – allowed Sea to really stretch her creative muscles in an incredibly powerful performance. We recently checked in with Sea and chatted with her about the craziness and dark side of the '60s, the unique approach of queer filmmaker Steve Balderson, and how she managed to make sexual repression look so good.

Peter Stickles Imagine if Chris O' Donnell (School Ties) had a cousin, or even brother, who looked like him and who made campy, low budget horror films. Then you got a good idea of what Peter Stickles is all about! In his breakout role in Shortbus, Peter Stickles made stalking awfully damn cute! He followed that up with a controversial role in Watch Out. This year, Peter Stickles stars in two films for Full Moon Entertainment, Gingerdead Man 3-D: Saturday Night Cleaver & Evil Bong 3-D: The Wrath of Bond that are expected to re-establish Full Moon's presence as a viable producer of low budget horror films. Over the course of his career, Peter Stickles has had people talking about him. The teasing is over! This here is the real deal. The moment we wait all year for: The lineup for the powerful, the mighty Boston Underground Film Festival, which is set to run March 25 to April 1. Now in its 12th year, Buff shows no sign of slowing down or taking it easy. In fact, this might be their most demented and transgressive edition yet.
There are homages to Giallo horror, tributes to the grand grindhouse tradition of sleaze and exploitation, sex and violence galore — both separately and together — plus, a resurrected ’80s slasher classic that all combine into an epic celebration of everything that is vicious and twisted in this world. But, in a fun way, ya know.

The 12th annual Boston Underground Film Festival isn’t set to start until March 25 — and will run until April 1 — but they’ve leaked a couple of early picks to Bad Lit. Even with just this little tease to start whetting New England underground film fans’ appetites, it looks like the venerable fest is in for another real doozy of a year.

Writer, producer, director Steve Balderson’s genre-bending, tragicomedy Stuck! will be playing at the beautiful Egyptian Theatre this Wednesday, February 3rd at 7:30pm.
I implore anyone in love with genre cinema and genuinely unique, low-budget films, to check it out for the discussion following the feature with Karen Black, Mink Stole, Susan Traylor, Jane Wiedlin, Pleasant Gehman, Stacy Cunningham and director Steve Balderson, which should be a hoot.
If you’re looking for a satisfying pastiche of the “girls behind bars” sub-genre of exploitation, Stuck! delivers. Early examples of the genre, like Barbara Stanwyck’s 1933 potboiler Ladies They Talk About, were – like many pictures of the day – problem pictures, in that they aimed to expose social injustices and inadequacies in the justice system. But by the 1960’s, when the genre really came into its own with cult classics like Caged and 99 Women, women-in-prison movies began to slide towards sexploitation and,...

Stuck!, written and directed by Steve Balderson (Pep Squad, Firecracker), is a gorgeous, black-and-white noir character piece that feels less like an homage and more like a newly discovered classic in the babes-behind-bars genre. I consider it a lost opportunity. I'm currently developing a nice, dark bruise on my left leg from kicking myself repeatedly with my right...

London -- Lynn Shelton's "Humpday" will kickstart this year's Raindance Film Festival, which includes an American Indie sidebar, organizers said Monday.
Shelton's movie, which stars Joshua Leonard and Mark Duplass, opens the London event, which aims to set itself apart from other festivals here by focusing on discoveries, innovation and indie filmmaking.
The festival will close with Steven Soderbergh's "The Girlfriend Experience" to round out a strong U.S. presence.
Also in this year's lineup is "My Suicide," featuring one of David Carradine's last turns before his death.
Steve Balderson returns to the festival with "Stuck!" starring Karen Black, Mink Stole and Susan Traylor.
Raindance will play host to the U.K. premiere of Canadian Ryan Ward's "Son of the Sunshine" and the unspooling of Zach Clark's "Modern Love Is Automatic" starring Melodie Sisk, Maggie Ross and Carlos Bustamante.

Busy actor Jeff Dylan Graham, whose long genre résumé includes October Moon, Beyond The Dunwich Horror and 100 Tears, dropped us a line to let us know about his new project Baby Jane? Written and directed by William Clift, it’s a take-off on the 1962 Gothic classic What Ever Happened To Baby Jane?—only with male actors (Matthew Martin and J.
