The 1986 rock ‘n roll horror film Trick or Treat, one of my all-time favorite movies, is getting a Blu-ray and 4K Uhd release (and possibly a new DVD release) from Synapse Films. We’re still waiting to hear a release date for that, as obviously the company wasn’t able to meet the hoped-for October release window – but while we wait for the special physical media release, Trick or Treat is set to making its streaming debut on the Screambox service this Friday, October 27th! Just in time for Halloween viewing!
Directed by Charles Martin Smith from a screenplay by Rhet Topham, Joel Soisson, and Michael S. Murphey (with an uncredited polish from the Final Destination duo of James Wong and Glen Morgan), Trick or Treat has the following synopsis: This mesmerizing horror adventure takes you into the terrifying dark side of rock’n’roll. Marc Price (Family Ties) stars as Eddie Weinbauer,...

Last week, we heard the awesome news that the 1986 rock ‘n roll horror film Trick or Treat, one of my all-time favorite movies, is getting a Blu-ray and 4K Uhd release (and possibly a new DVD release) from Synapse Films. A specific date for this release has not yet been announced, just that they’re hoping to get it out into the world by the end of 2023 – and ideally, of course, it would be out in October. Synapse Films is collaborating with Michael Felsher of Red Shirt Pictures on this release, and now Felsher has revealed some details to Rue Morgue, confirming that we can expect to see a documentary, a commentary, and interviews on the disc.

The 1986 rock ‘n roll horror film Trick or Treat is one of my all-time favorites, but since the VHS era it has only gotten a barebones DVD release (which is available for a high price Here) and a Blu-ray in Germany. So this ranks high as some of the coolest news I’ve seen lately: Synapse Films is putting together a Blu-ray and 4K Uhd release (and possibly a new DVD release) of Trick or Treat that they’re hoping to send out into the world by the end of 2023!
Full details on the release aren’t available at this time, as they’re too early in the process, but Synapse Films is collaborating with Michael Felsher of Red Shirt Pictures to make sure it’s the best it can be. The livestream announcement can be viewed on Facebook.

A new episode of The Arrow in the Head Show has just been released, and in this one our hosts John “The Arrow” Fallon and Lance Vlcek have been joined by special guest Chris Margetis – writer and star of The Manson Brothers Midnight Zombie Massacre (read our review Here) – for a conversation about one of my personal favorites, the 1986 horror film Trick or Treat (which is available for a high price Here.) This is a movie I have previously written a Best Horror Movie You Never Saw video about, and if you want to hear what The Arrow, Lance, and Chris Margetis have to say about it, check out the video embedded above!

I’ll confess. I have a real mushy soft spot for Heavy Metal music. Back in the ‘80s, in my teen years, my buddy Nick and I would crank the latest from Kiss, Scorpions, Judas Priest, Cinderella, etc. And there’s something specifically about Metal tailored to teenagers – that heightened sense of drama we feel at that age, the hormonal urges, and the need to push back against ‘society’. (Right – but please give us our allowances to consume products, okay?)
But Metal also equated with power, which was aligned with evil, and before long, many parents came up with the notion that Metal was Satan’s music. (Is the Pmrc still a thing? Brr.) Well, marketing is marketing, and few Metal bands fought the label (hell, some even embraced it). So it seemed the timing was right for that satanic safe haven, the Horror Film, to meet up with the...

The "Archie Comics: Zombies, Heroes, Cartoons, Movies and More!" panel on Saturday, October 12th at Nycc was a standing-room only event. The panelists (Dan Parent, George Donovan, Jon Goldwater, Michael Murphey, Mike Pellerito, Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, Francesco Francavilla, Michael Uslan, and Victor Gorelick) were introduced to much fanfare and in turn also introduced a prop of Veronica's head on a burger. Included in the discussion was the new turn to horror for Archie Comics, Afterlife with Archie (see Giaco Furino's review for more on the comic). The talk of Archie and zombies received an enthusiastic response. Francesco Francavilla, the artist for Archie Meets Kiss and the Afterlife with Archie series stated, “I'm a big fan of horror. Whenever they give me a chance, I go to horror.” He also mentioned the famed horror comic publication Creepy, saying “Doing covers for Afterlife is like doing covers for Creepy.” Afterlife with Archie has received a tremendous response,...

It appears not even the gang from Riverdale is immune to a zombie plague. Afterlife with Archie will be highlighted at this Saturday’s Archie Comics panel, which is set to include Archie Comics publisher/co-ceo Jon Goldwater, president Mike Pellerito, executive director of editorial Paul Kaminski, cartoonist Dan Parent, iVerse Media CEO Michael Murphey and Gogii Games president George Donovan.
The trailer for the comic (which debuted on hollywoodreporter.com) shows the normally picturesque town of Riverdale overrun with the undead corpses of its former residents. Written by Roberto Aguirre-Sacas and drawn by Francesco Francavillam, Afterlife with Archie promises to be a little darker than your typical Archie and friends adventure.
“It’s dark in that the Archie gang is fighting for their lives and survival, and there is a body count,” says Aguirre-Sacasa. “But if you think of the Evil Dead movies Sam Raimi did or even...

A few weeks back we heard about the new zombie-themed Archie comic headed our way, and on tap right now we have some brand new eye candy for you cats! Dig it!
Look for the comic in October!
“It is dark in that the Archie gang is fighting for their lives and survival, and there is a body count,” says Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa to THR. “But if you think of the Evil Dead movies Sam Raimi did or even Peter Jackson’s zombie movie Dead Alive, there was always definitely a sense of humor about it. It wasn’t tongue-in-cheek or campy, but it was fun.”
The story begins with Jughead’s dog, Hot Dog, being run over with a car. Jughead brings the dog to Sabrina, the Teenage Witch, who, after much deliberation, brings the dog back to life. But Hot Dog is not the same sweet hound he was before,...

There's always one day during the Sdcc when you just shake your head, laugh, and say, "This schedule is ridiculous." Saturday, July 20th, is shaping up to be that day this year.
Horror fans will have a lot of choices to make as the "Bates Motel" panel battles the one-two punch of Godzilla and Seventh Son. Later in the day you'll be faced with choosing to learn more about "True Blood," Telltale's The Walking Dead video game, or "Being Human." Right now 20th Century Fox's presentation that runs at the same time remains "To Be Announced," but once details are revealed, we'll provide an update.
Other panels vying for your attention throughout the day are "The Originals," "Grimm," I, Frankenstein teamed with The Hunger Games: Catching Fire (that combination should make for some interesting audience reactions), a look at gameplay from Dead Rising 3 on the Xbox One, more games, comics,...

Lord of the Rings star Sean Bean is set to star in the big screen adaptation of author Deon Meyer’s suspense novel series Devil’s Peak. This will be a trilogy of films in which he will play a detective character named Benny Griessel.
According to the book description, the story is a gritty suspense thriller "about revenge, forgiveness, and the race to catch a trained killer." This sounds like it will make for a great film series, and the fact that Bean will be its star is pretty awesome.
Here's a description of the book:
A young woman makes a terrible confession to a priest. An honorable man takes his own revenge for an unspeakable tragedy. An aging inspector tries to get himself sober while taking on the most difficult case of his career. From this beginning, Deon Meyer weaves a story of astonishing complexity and suspense, as...

Big screen tough guy and sometimes baddie Sean Bean might finally be getting his break as a main character in a franchise revolving around the adaptation of novels written by South African author Dean Meyer.
Sean Bean is one of those actors that leaves me scratching my head because I can’t figure out why he hasn’t grabbed the leading man role in a variety of films that have come out, seeming to always fall into the role of major villain or good guy that gets killed before the end credits roll. Now, it looks like he might finally get his chance to shine as he lands the role of Detective Inspector Benny Griessel in a planned trilogy of films based on Meyer’s novels.
Devil’s Peak introduces everyone to Griessel as he hunts down a serial killer that targets killers of children. The other books in the series are 13 Hours and 7 Days.

Devil's Peak novel trilogy by South African writer Deon Meyers, adapted for the big screen, sets Sean Bean as star. The books follow Benny Griessel, who Bean would portray, a detective working in the Serious and Violent Crimes Unit in Cape Town who has family issues, as well as being a recovering alcoholic - but he's very good at his job. Cannes -- Judge Dredd will dust off his helmet for what promises to be a gritty return to the big screen.
The $45 million project is being bankrolled by Reliance Big Pictures and Stuart Ford's international sales banner Im Global and DNA Films, the U.K. production house headed by Andrew Macdonald.
DNA Films spent more than two years negotiating with rights-holders to the 2000Ad comic book character -- created by John Wagner and Carlos Ezquerra -- who first hit the big screen in 1995 with Sylvester Stallone in the title role.
Filming is scheduled to take place this year in Johannesburg, directed by Pete Travis from a script penned by Alex Garland.
Garland, Macdonald and Allon Reich, who teamed to make "The Beach," "28 Days Later" and "Sunshine," will produce.
Wagner will be a creative consultant on the film co-produced by "District 9" supervising producer Michael S. Murphey.

Idw Publishing has licensed their Ghost Whisperer comic book for repurposing on mobile phone to iVerse Media. Ghost Whisperer: The Haunted #1 is now available at the iTunes App Store.
The high profile title is based on the hit CBS series featuring Jennifer Love Hewitt as Melinda Gordon, the medium who helps ghosts cross over. The five-issue miniseries is written by series writers Carrie Smith and Becca Smith, with art by Elena Casagrande.
The story in the comic fits in between Seasons 2 and 3 of the show, and follows Melinda as she spends her days and nights helping earthbound spirits cross over into the Light. In the comic series, however, Melinda gets more than she bargained for when she comes face-to-face with Osiris, Egyptian God of the Dead, who wants the souls for himself.
The comic follows the same format as the show, with a ghost that needs to cross over in each issue.
