A Road House remake is coming to Amazon Prime Video later this year, but there's a lot more to it than just your average remake.
Besides a seemingly new plot and new location, the film has also been embroiled in drama in recent months, from casting choices to producers.
Here's everything we know about the reboot of Road House and the drama involved in making the movie.
Why Are They Remaking Road House?
The reason why they decided to remake the 1989 cult classic remains unknown, but talks of the remake have been going on for nearly ten years.
In 2015, Variety reported that Ronda Rousey would be taking on the classic role of the bouncer, previously played by Patrick Swayze.
At the time, MGM was ready to start production in 2016, having already done other cult classic spinoffs, such as the Rocky spinoff Creed.

Jennifer Grey has given some insight into the production of Dirty Dancing 2 and the necessary alterations in place to account for Patrick Swayze’s absence.
Grey and Swayze played romantic leads Baby and Johnny in the original 1987 film, thrilling audiences with their chemistry on and off the dance floor.
Now, over three decades later, the hit movie is getting the direct sequel treatment after a prequel in 2006 and a TV movie remake in 2017.
However, Swayze’s death from pancreatic cancer in 2009 means that the sequel, starring Grey, will have to work around the character Johnny not being present.
In an interview with EW, the actor said of Dirty Dancing 2: “I can’t tell you much, sadly, but I will tell you that it will involve Baby. It will involve Kellerman’s. There will be music. Unless there’s a lot of CGI, Baby’s going to be a little older.

Patrick Swayze’s widow, Lisa Niemi Swayze, said her husband would not be tempted into reappearing in the planned Dirty Dancing reboot 35 years on from the original.
Lisa was married to Swayze from 1975 until his death at the age of 57 in 2009 from pancreatic cancer.
"It's very strange to have someone so far away and yet have them still so incredibly close in your heart," Lisa told Entertainment Tonight.
“I feel like he’s with me every day, but of course, it’d be nice to have him physically in the room. But, I tell you what, we had a great ride and there’s so much to be grateful for.”

Although his films for the most part weren’t award winners or critical successes, Patrick Swayze starred in a stream of commercially successful movies that have since gone on to attain cult status. Two set the standard for the iconic 1980s Brat-Pack teen movies, and two films that have become a huge part of pop culture. Men wanted to be him, women loved him and he is one of the actors that comes to mind as one we lost much too soon.
Patrick Wayne Swayze was born on August 18, 1952, in Houston, the second of five children. His mother owned a dance studio, and Swayze became an accomplished dancer, although he was bullied in school for his training in classical ballet. As a teen, he honed several skills besides dance, including ice skating, acting in school plays, martial arts and football. His hopes for a football scholarship were dashed when he injured his knee.

Though I’m sure it wasn’t the first, Road House is one of the first action movies I can remember that was equally enjoyed by male and female. Fresh off of the success of Dirty Dancing, Patrick Swayze stepped up to play badass bar bouncer Dalton, an expert at his craft, but still a stranger in a strange land. Based on reputation alone, Dalton is hired by the owner of a notorious bar called the Double Deuce. It seems the bar has been taken over by the seedy elements that haunt it, and so it’s time for Dalton to clean it up. When he realizes that the it’s the town that houses the bar that is the root of the corruption, Dalton calls in his good friend and mentor Wade Garrett, played cooler and badder-assed than ever by Sam Elliott, to help him tear it to the ground.

Looking for good books about the movies to read? We've got a bumper selection of recommendations right here...
A confession. I actually started writing this article in 2013, and the reason you've only reading it now is that I've made sure I've read every book on this list, save for one or two where I've marked otherwise. As such, what you're getting is a very personal list of recommendations. Each of these books has at least something to it that I think is of interest to someone wanting to learn more about film - or just enjoy stories of movie making.
I've tended to avoid picture books, with one exception, as these ones I've chosen are all intended to be chock-full of words, to relax with at the end of a long day. Which is what I did. There are one or two notable omissions, as I'm still...

Ronda Rousey has landed her next Hollywood gig, and it looks as if she’s going to have some pretty big shoes to fill.
According to a report from Variety, Rousey will star in the upcoming Road House remake. In the new film, Rousey will take the role star Patrick Swayze had in the 1989 original – though obviously the story will be updated, given the gender swap.
The original movie, one of Swayze’s biggest, had him playing Dalton, a “cooler” brought in to bounce at a sketchy roadside bar, The Double Deuce. Also starring Kelly Lynch and Sam Elliot, it’s something of an 80s classic, but nowhere near untouchable (with Ghostbusters being remade, what is?).
MGM is helming the remake, which has been in the works for several years. Production begins in 2016.
The Variety report makes note of the fact that Rousey sought – and obtained – approval from Swayze’s widow,...

It appears Ronda Rousey is going to be kicking ass in the long-rumoured reboot of Road House.
The Ufc star is in talks to lead MGM's revival, which will see her replace the late Patrick Swayze as the bouncer for notorious dive bar the Double Deuce.
Rousey apparently even sought out the blessing of Swayze's widow Lisa Niemi before beginning negotiations, according to Variety.
The 1989 cult classic made Swayze an action star, with its graphic violence and brutal fight scenes.
Rousey has a budding film career in the offing, even as she continues to rack up wins inside the octagon.
Earlier in the year, Rousey had supporting roles in Hollywood blockbusters Furious 7 and Entourage.
She is also attached to the lead role in her own biopic My Fight/Your Fight, in addition to publicly pitching herself to play Ms Marvel.

Ronda Rousey has long been a force to be reckoned with in the ring, but following her show-stopping 34-second Ko, the Ufc champ has captured the imagination of not only the more casual fighting fans, but Hollywood executives across the board. After banging the drum to champion her chances of landing the coveted role of Captain Marvel for the 2018 standalone film, Variety now brings word that the budding actress has signed on to lead MGM’s long-gestating Road House remake.
Assuming the role made famous by the late, great Patrick Swayze in ’89, Rousey’s involvement in the nascent project marks the talent’s first major break into the mainstream, building off of supporting roles in the likes of Expendables 3 and this year’s Furious 7. Truth be told, MGM’s overhaul of the cult action film has been simmering in the pits of development for years at this point, though...

Bar brawlers had better watch out - or they might get a beatdown from Ronda Rousey.
Variety reports that the Mma fighter will star in a reboot of the 1989 cult classic "Road House," which originally featured Patrick Swayze as a bouncer hired to clean up a rowdy bar in Missouri. Swayze then had to contend with corrupt businessmen threatening the town, all while throwing out memorable (if illogical) lines like, "Pain don't hurt" and "Nobody ever wins a fight."
Rousey reportedly reached out to Swayze's widow, Lisa Niemi, for her blessing, which Niemi gave. On Twitter, the Ufc fighter said it was a "great honor" to be part of the project:
