RoboCop (1987) – What Happened to This Sci-Fi Action Movie?
Image
Paul Verhoeven’s 1987 classic is an unquestionable pillar of the film industry. Few movies have ever stomped so freely between genres and tones like RoboCop does. Picking up a bevy of blood on its mechanical boots along the way. You won’t find many, if any, films in history that can simultaneously sell toys like hotcakes, critique corporate greed, and feature a bad guy getting shot in the junk. Even the B-movie moments feel like spectacle, fueled by a brazen disrespect for the status quo, we just can’t get enough of. Kinda sounds like we’re talking about a punk rock horror movie. In some ways… we are. RoboCop’s journey has been documented six ways from Sunday. Including the impressively in-depth, four-hour-and-then-some 2023 documentary RoboDoc: The Creation of RoboCop. Today, we’re going to look at the classic under a bloodier lens. And answer the question: does Robo really want an Oreo?...

The Best Star Trek Series That You Probably Haven't Seen Just Got Canceled
Image
"Star Trek: Prodigy" is dead. Again.

The Nickelodeon-branded animated "Star Trek" series has had a rough go of it. Infamously, the series was aired on a weird schedule. Its first 20-episode season was aired in two parts, with the first part coming in October of 2021 and the second part not dropping until the following year. Then, while the second season was still in production, the series was hastily and inexplicably canceled by Paramount, upsetting its slowly growing continent of fans. Not only that, "Prodigy" was also bafflingly removed from Paramount+, making it immediately unavailable. This was a startling decision, as Paramount has long held the reins on "Star Trek," and Trekkies assumed the company would want to keep all the components of its most lucrative franchise close to them.

Its cancellation came during a great culling at Paramount+ which saw the end of most of its "Star Trek" shows.

Steven Spielberg And A Star Trek Legend Teamed Up For A Forgotten Sci-Fi Series
Image
In 1989, Steven Spielberg was trying really hard to get into the animation game. He had served as executive producer on films like Don Bluth's "An American Tail" and Robert Zemeckis' "Who Framed Roger Rabbit," steering both of them to great success. He also founded his own animation studio, Amblimation, that year, hoping to continue his track record of making striking, original, and successful animated features. By 1989, though, Spielberg and Bluth had suffered a falling out, and new projects didn't come easily. As a result, Amblimation only ever made three features: "An American Tail: Fievel Goes West," "We're Back! A Dinosaur's Story," and "Balto."

Spielberg has better success on television, overseeing a new wave of animated shows that ushered in a new generation of entertainment. 1990 saw the debut of "Tiny Toon Adventures," a fourth-wall-breaking comedy series featuring a new collection of "kid" counterparts to well-known Warner Bros. characters. That show...

1990's Weirdest TV Show Was A Musical Crime Drama That Lasted 11 Episodes
Image
We may receive a commission on purchases made from links.

Even 35 years after its short-lived run on ABC, the late Steven Bochco's and William M. Finkelstein's "Cop Rock" is a tough sell. "Cop Rock" was about a group of Los Angeles police officers who traversed the city investigating crimes, arresting perps, and facing the every drama of living in the City of Angels. The cops were played by a talented ensemble that included Anne Bobby, Ronny Cox, James McDaniel, Paul McCrane, Vondie Curtis-Hall, Cch Pounder, and several others.

The odd angle was that "Cop Rock" was also a musical, featuring several new songs — some composed by Randy Newman — in every episode. The cop characters, as well as the criminals, would sing about their pained lives of crime/crimefighting, and occasionally dance. It's a weird idea. "Live-action musical cop series" is an elevator pitch that would be turned down everywhere.

Total Recall (1990) – Wtf Happened to This Adaptation?
Image
We’ve recently looked at the of Michael Crichton’s best works and it got me thinking about some of the other heavy hitting sci-fi writers. One of the best who also happens to have quite a few adaptations to his name is Philip K. Dick. If you aren’t a big reader, then the titles We Can Remember It For You Wholesale and Do Androids Dream of Electric Sleep may not ring a bell, but I’m sure that Total Recall and Blade Runner are right up this audience’s alley. You guys seemed to really enjoy the breakdowns on Jurassic Park, Congo, and Sphere so lets take a look at one of the biggest action movies of 1990 and its source material and unpack Total Recall. No, not the remake. Never the remake for that one. Pull that tracker out of your nostril as we find out what happened to this adaptation.

This 53-Year-Old Thriller Stars the Best Performance of Burt Reynolds’ Legendary Career
Image
By the early ’70s, Burt Reynolds was one of cinema’s rising men of action. With starring roles in films like Fuzz and Skullduggery, Reynolds was charming, physical and was rarely asked to show much beyond that. But it wasn’t until Deliverance that audiences and directors started to see what he could do, playing an outdoorsman slowly losing hope in the Georgian wilderness.

John Boorman’s thriller is a tough descent into fear and violence. What starts as a weekend adventure for four city men looking to conquer the wilderness quickly turns into a desperate struggle to escape it. Between the realism of its violence, the tension that never lets up, and the unsettling themes at its core, Deliverance remains just as powerful today as it was over 50 years ago.

Deliverance Is One of the Most Disturbing Thrillers of All Time

No one could quite expect what Deliverance would show.

This is the connection between the original Star Trek and Scrooged, The Goonies, and Throw Momma from the Train
Image
Here’s a trivia question for everyone: What’s the connection between Star Trek: The Original Series and the movies The Goonies, Throw Momma from the Train, and Scrooged? The answer is… Logan Ramsey, the late, great character actor whose career spanned from 1948 to 1999 and who would have turned 104 on March 21, 2025.

Star Trek fans will recall that Ramsey low-key chewed the scenery as Proconsul Claudius Marcus in the Star Trek: The Original Series episode “Bread and Circuses.” He’s the character who gave his slave, Drusilla (Lois Jewell), to Captain Kirk (William Shatner), so that Kirk could enjoy “some last hours as a man” before his execution. Sadly, Ramsey died of a heart attack at the age of 79 in 2000.

In addition to Star Trek, he counted among his many theater, movie, and television credits The Devil’s Disciple and The Great Indoors, both on stage; the films Head, Walking Tall, Any Which Way You Can,...

Where Was Deliverance Filmed? Every Major Location Explained
Image
The 1972 John Boorman thriller "Deliverance" is a deeply disturbing odyssey through the Georgia wilderness that haunts the minds of viewers long after the credits roll. With its scenic views of the rolling Appalachians, the perilous rapids of the Chattooga river, and the deep dark forests, "Deliverance" is both a film about the horrors men inflict upon one another and the foolishness of thinking anyone can ever truly "defeat" nature, and its setting is incredibly important to the story and the film's memorable appearance.

"Deliverance" is at its core a survival movie, pitting man against man and man against nature as it follows four Atlanta businessmen who want to canoe down the fictional Cahulawassee River in the North Georgia wilderness before a dam is built. They visit a small mountain town where things go poorly with the locals, and end up lost in the woods when things go horribly wrong, making...

40 Years Later, ‘Vision Quest’ Is Still a Great Sports Movie — with a Wild Horny Streak
Image
Before you read a 40th anniversary piece about the 1985 film “Vision Quest,” it would be malpractice to not watch star Matthew Modine as Louden Swain jogging along in a rubber suit to the sounds of Journey’s “Only the Young.”

Anyway, you’re in luck, here’s a link to that scene right now:

“There’s a song from a band named Pony Up, they wrote a song called ‘Matthew Modine,’” said Modine during a recent interview with IndieWire, reflecting on this particular scene. “And they talk about me running in my jogging suit and how they want to sexually violate me. It’s a filthy song, but it’s really funny. It came out when my son was in high school and he was just absolutely horrified because all his friends were listening to it. That’s not what you want to hear.”

No, if you’re Matthew Modine’s son,...

The Forgotten '90s Captain America Movie Was A Disaster (Or Was It?)
Image
"Captain America: New World Order" is just a couple weeks away, bringing the star-spangled man back to the big screen in his own solo venture in nearly a decade. Of course, it will be Anthony Mackie's Sam Wilson wearing the suit and throwing the shield this time, rather than Chris Evans' Steve Rogers. Regardless, any Marvel Cinematic Universe sub-series getting a fourth installment is a big deal ... although there have been more feature-length "Captain America" movies than just the ones produced by Marvel Studios.

Yup, today we're talking about 1990's "Captain America," the $3-million feature directed by late B-movie legend Albert Pyun. Although the film was conceived as a theatrical release, those plans changed when the production hit financial problems, leading to a direct-to-video rollout. A planned $40-million budget was canceled late in planning, dooming the project from the start. These days, the film is seen as little more than a hilarious curiosity,...

The Best Sci-Fi Movie From Each Year Of The 1990s
Image
The 1990s produced plenty of brilliant sci-fi hits, with a mix of comedies, spectacular blockbusters and all-out action classics. Many of the best sci-fi movies of the 1990s have set the standard for the genre moving into the 21st century, and they have also established wider trends in the movie industry, since sci-fi blockbusters often dominated box office rankings. Modern sci-fi blockbusters started to take shape in the '90s.

While the '90s were a great decade for sci-fi movies overall, some years were better than others. 1999 produced The Matrix, The Iron Giant and Galaxy Quest, for example, as well as the rebirth of the Star Wars franchise. By contrast, 1992 didn't deliver many sci-fi movies that have withstood the test of time. Breaking down sci-fi year-by-year presents an interesting snapshot of how the genre developed in the 1990s.

Long-Lost '90s 'Captain America' Movie Director's Cut Finally Found
Image
A long-lost Marvel movie has finally been found. While the MCU has now brought the likes of Iron Man, Thor, and Captain America to a much wider audience, these were far from the first efforts to bring these beloved characters to the screen in live-action. After several made-for-tv movies, director Albert Pyun was given the reins to Captain America in 1990 but, sadly, the movie was mauled by those who saw it, and currently stands at just 6% on Rotten Tomatoes. However, the Marvel outing has since garnered something of a cult following, and now, various reports on social media have revealed that a myth surrounding the movie is indeed true: a director’s cut exists, and it has been found.

Directed by Albert Pyun, the late filmmaker known for low-budget, high-concept genre fare, and written by Stephen Tolkin, 1990’s Captain America stars Matt Salinger in the title role alongside Ronny Cox,...

10 Most Evil Action Movie Villains That We'll Remember Forever
Image
Watching an Action film is a surefire way to spark adrenaline: car chases, fight scenes, and big theatrical explosions are all perfectly timed for the heroes to look as cool and powerful as possible. Yet there cannot be a hero if there's no villain. Over the years, audiences have witnessed evil geniuses, disingenuous billionaires, and strong fighters who wreak havoc on unsuspecting cities across the world. Some fade away into oblivion as soon as they are defeated, but others have stood the test of time.

A-list actors have often expressed that playing the bad guy is more fun and challenging. In order to deliver a compelling on-screen villain, it's important to dig into their motivations and discover what makes them tick. When they manage to steal a scene and become the character that audiences are most drawn to, then it's clear they've done their dastardly job well.

Star Trek: TNGs Controversial Captain Jellico Explained
Image
Captain Edward Jellico (Ronny Cox) first appeared in the brutal Star Trek: The Next Generation two-parter, Chain of Command, and he later returned as an admiral in Star Trek: Prodigy. Throughout TNGs run, visiting Starfleet captains and admirals were often used to create conflict and Captain Jellico filled this role in "Chain of Command." In the first half of the Tng two-parter, Captain Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart), Lt. Worf (Michael Dorn), and Dr. Beverly Crusher (Gates McFadden) go on a covert mission on a planet along the Cardassian border.

In Captain Picards absence, Starfleet sends Captain Jellico to take command of the Enterprise. Jellico had previously helped establish an armistice between the United Federation of the Planets and the Cardassian Union. As Jellico holds current negotiations with the Cardassians, Captain Picard is captured and taken to Gul Madred (David Warner). Madred proceeds to use various methods of torture as he...

Eddie Murphy Knows Exactly What Went Wrong With Beverly Hills Cop 3
Image
Did Eddie Murphy really need to make "Beverly Hills Cop III" in 1994? It depends on how you view his 1992 and just how down you think he was before he made his purported comeback that year with "Boomerang." The Reginald Hudlin-directed romantic comedy returned Murphy to critical favor, but, commercially, its $70 million domestic gross was less than the $80 million take of "Another 48 Hrs.," which was the disappointment that hastened the need for Murphy's return-to-form (even though it and "Boomerang" both received A- Cinemascores). Murphy's other 1992 effort, "The Distinguished Gentleman," was a legit misstep dogged by poor reviews and a paltry $47 million domestic gross.

Aside from "The Distinguished Gentleman", Murphy seemed to be in good performance shape coming off "Boomerang" -- he just wasn't the launching pad for $100 million-grossing blockbusters that he'd been in the 1980s. Obviously, Murphy and his then home studio, Paramount, were eager to catch fire again,...

RoboCop's Journey from Industry Joke to Pop Culture Icon
Image
The 1987 film RoboCop wasn't supposed to make over 50 million dollars, spawn two sequels, a toy line, a reboot, or a TV show. It sure as hell wasn't expected to affect cinematic discourse. What happens when you get an art-house director who despises science fiction and action movies; a producer who made a film so controversial it was banned from theaters; a dyslexic actor unable to audition formally; an actress who nobody respected; and no-name writers to write a script that's the joke of Hollywood? A satirical, R-rated, sci-fi-blockbuster masterpiece. The pieces fell into place despite the contradictions, the actors, director, studio, and effects crew venturing down uncharted territory out of pure stubbornness.

On paper, this project was a flop. Director Paul Verhoeven voiced his contempt for the script, threatening to remove all trace of comedy, and throwing tantrums when the crew failed to meet his expectations. Luckily, the film came...

Star Trek: Voyager Narrowly Avoided Repeating Tng's Disappointing Troi Mistake
Image
Star Trek: Voyager narrowly avoided repeating the disappointing mistake that Star Trek: The Next Generation made with Counselor Deanna Troi (Marina Sirtis). Star Trek: The Next Generation made a bold statement supporting mental health by giving Deanna Troi an important spot on the bridge of the USS Enterprise-d next to Captain Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart). With half-Betazoid empathic abilities and skill as a Starfleet therapist, Counselor Troi was poised to be an insightful, compassionate professional. Yet Troi's form-fitting civilian attire set Deanna apart from the rest of the Enterprise senior staff as a sexualized character saddled with weak storylines.

Disappointingly, Counselor Deanna Troi's characterization on Star Trek: The Next Generation seemed to be summed up as "sexy lady" instead of Troi being treated as a whole person. With few exceptions, like Tng season 4's "The Loss", episodes that were ostensibly about Troi tended to focus on the roles Deanna played...

Robocop TV Series at Amazon Finds Showrunner in Peter Ocko, with James Wan Producing
Nancy Allen, Peter Weller, Miguel Ferrer, and Kurtwood Smith in RoboCop (1987)
RoboCop is making his way to streaming, and the new TV series has found some heavy-hitting talent to guide it. Released in 1987 and directed by Paul Verhoeven, RoboCop was a dark satire about police officer Alex Murphy being revived after a gruesome murder by megacorporation Omni Consumer Products (Ocp) as the titular RoboCop. The film spawned a successful franchise that included two sequels, a 2014 reboot, several television series, video games, comics, and toys. A pop culture staple, it was only a matter of time before the character returned.

Variety reports that a new RoboCop series for Prime Video is being developed at Amazon. Peter Ocko will serve as writer, executive producer, and showrunner. RoboCop TV Series Gets Huge Update With Showrunner Announced
Paul Verhoeven at an event for L'homme sans ombre (2000)
Amazon's Robocop TV show gets a new update, revealing that a showrunner has been brought on board. Released in 1987 and directed by Paul Verhoeven, the first Robocop movie starred Peter Weller as the titular cyborg police officer. The franchise returned in 2014 for a failed reboot starring Joel Kinnaman, with the property then moving to Amazon with the company's purchase of MGM in 2022. It was subsequently reported that a Robocop TV show was in the works, though few updates about the project have emerged since.

Now, Variety reports that Peter Ocko has joined the Robocop TV show as showrunner. James Wan has also boarded the series and will executive produce the project through his production company, Atomic Monster. The report includes the official logline for the series, included below, which teases a premise similar to that of the original film:

When Star Trek: The Original Series premiered in 1966, it changed the face of sci-fi television, eventually gaining a cult following and launching several spin-offs. Its successor Star Trek: The Next Generation proved equally popular, if not more. As a result, fans of the franchise have often debated which entry is the superior series.

10 Performances In 1980s Comedies We'll Never Forget
Image
The best comedic performances from the 1980s are still just as funny decades later. The 1980s produced plenty of hilarious comedy movies, with studios investing in original ideas and fresh talents. Actors like Eddie Murphy and Bill Murray were on top of their game in the 1980s, delivering some iconic performances which have stood the test of time. 40 years later or more, they are still career-defining.

1980s comedies had a particular feel to them. Before the cynicism and dark comedies of the 1990s, Hollywood comedies in the 1980s were mostly optimistic and comforting. Characters still went through dire straits, but there was always hope that they would come out on the other side as better and happier people. This style of comedy is always popular, since its hopeful nature is great to rewatch over and over again.

Beverly Hills Cop Review: 40 Years On, Eddie Murphy Has Still Never Been This Good

Eddie Murphy's performance in Beverly Hills Cop transformed his career, announcing him as an A-lister The supporting cast offer balance to Murphy's explosive performance The genre mash-up of action and comedy is incredibly well-observed

It would be very easy to distill Eddie Murphy's career down to before Beverly Hills Cop and after, such was the impact of the 1984 movie. It was, without doubt, one of the most important movies of his career, and the biggest at the box office that year, and it is widely considered among the very best Eddie Murphy movies. But 40 years have passed now, and sometimes it's just as important to revisit classics to remind us all of just what earned them such praise.

After four decades, there are now four Beverly Hills Cop movies, and Murphy's career has evolved so much that we've already seen a revival period, and calls to re-evaluate some...

“It could have been a seasons long arc”: One Patrick Stewart Star Trek: The Next Generation Episode Was Pure Nightmare Fuel So Well-Written It Should’ve Spanned an Entire Season

Patrick Stewart is undoubtedly an acting genius, and his work on Star Trek: The Next Generation as Captain Jean-Luc Picard is widely celebrated. His performance in the series is often hailed as one of the best in television history. However, one episode featuring Stewart stands out among fans for its remarkable writing and chilling sequence.

Picard needs to resign as captain of the USS Enterprise in order to undergo this mission, and he is replaced by one Captain Edward Jellico (Ronny Cox), a commanding officer with a dramatically different managerial style.

As a captain, Picard was open to suggestions, careful to keep a rapport open with his crew. Jellico, meanwhile, was stern, cold, and loved to micromanage. He hated casualness and jocularity, and expected everyone to be tightly wound. He wasn't a bad captain -- indeed, he was quite good -- but he was a terrible boss. The appearance of Jellico set many Trekkies' hearts aflame,...

Why Was Beverly Hills Cop So Popular in the First Place?

Quick Links Beverly Hills Cop Is Hilarious Eddie Murphy's Movie Star Moment A Stellar Release Date The Music Was Heating Up the Charts

1984 was a legendary year for movies. Films like Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, The Karate Kid, Gremlins, Purple Rain, Splash, and Footloose are just a few of the legendary titles that were released. Many assume that the biggest film of the year was Ghostbusters, given it was one of the highest-grossing films of the decade and lived on through merchandise and television deals. Yet the biggest movie of the year was another comedy featuring a Saturday Night Live alumnus, Beverly Hills Cop.

Starring Eddie Murphy, Beverly Hills Cop was a box office sensation from the moment it was released on December 5, 1984. It had strong reviews from critics, earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Original Screenplay, and stayed number one at the box office for an impressive 13 weeks straight.

Every Beverly Hills Cop Movie, Ranked From Worst To Best
Image
Although some younger audiences may not realize it, Eddie Murphy has been one of the biggest, most famous movie stars on the planet for more than 40 years. Part of the gap of knowledge for Gen Z might be the reality that Murphy stepped away from the limelight aside from a couple of notable titles that went straight to streaming over the last few years, such as the Amazon Original film "Coming 2 America," over the last decade. But Murphy is roaring back on screen this week with a vengeance by returning to one of his most recognizable and beloved characters in the new Netflix action comedy "Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F." With his return to this now-40-year-old character in mind, it's worth looking at the whole "Beverly Hills Cop" series. The 1984 original is one of the seminal action comedies ever made, but how does the rest of the franchise hold up?...

Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F Review
Image
Plot: After an attempt on his daughter’s life and the disappearance of his friend Billy Rosewood (Judge Reinhold), Axel Foley (Eddie Murphy) returns to Beverly Hills to do battle with a group of corrupt cops.

Review: Right off the bat, it’s clear that Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F director Mark Molloy nailed the assignment. In the movie’s first scene, we see Eddie Murphy’s Axel Foley driving around his beloved Detroit, cracking a smile as Glenn Frey’s “The Heat is On” fills the soundtrack. It’s not subtle, but it delivers the message loud and clear that for the first time since the second film in 1987, we can legitimately say there’s a new Beverly Hills Cop movie out, and it kicks butt. Wholeheartedly embracing an R-rating, with frequent F-bombs and surprisingly hardcore action beats, Molloy’s made a movie that will likely prove to...

Sylvester Stallone Helped Launch Eddie Murphy's Career in Beverly Hills Cop
Image
Sylvester Stallone's vision for Beverly Hills Cop differed significantly from the final product, with a more action-focused script and altered character dynamics. Eddie Murphy's casting as Axel Foley revitalized his Hollywood career, leading to a successful franchise and numerous other iconic roles. Beverly Hills Cop's success helped establish Murphy as a leading man and comedy powerhouse, while Stallone found success in other action films.

Back in the '80s, few action stars were dominating the silver screen quite like Sylvester Stallone, who, after starring in the groundbreaking sports franchise Rocky and as John Rambo in First Blood, was looking for his next big hit. Similarly, Saturday Night Live breakout performer Eddie Murphy was riding high on the success of his work on the sketch comedy series and was establishing himself as one of Hollywood's most charismatic comedians, having appeared in the popular flicks 48 Hrs. and Trading Places.

Beverly Hills Cop 3 Nearly Transformed The Franchise Will 1 Key Change
Image
Beverly Hills Cop 3 almost broke the franchise formula by sending Axel Foley to London, which could have transformed the series. Eddie Murphy's dislike of the third film delayed the arrival of the fourth entry Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F by decades. The staleness of Beverly Hills Cop 3 could have been avoided by taking Axel to new locales, which would have also expanded the scope of the series.

Beverly Hills Cop 3 almost broke the franchise formula in a key way and could have transformed it completely. Eddie Murphy had an incredible run of hits during the 1980s, following the success of his acting debut 48 Hrs. It felt like he couldn't miss, with everything from Trading Places to the critically lambasted fantasy The Golden Child becoming smash hits. It was the original Beverly Hills Cop movie that cemented Murphy's stardom, with the film still being one...

I Have A Star Trek Theory About What Michelle Yeoh Is Really Doing In Section 31
Image
Emperor Georgiou may be recruiting Star Trek legacy characters into Section 31 to bring the organization down from the inside or create her own version. Star Trek: Section 31 aims to bridge the agency seen in Discovery with the secretive version introduced in Deep Space Nine, wiping its existence from records. Introducing popular legacy characters like Joseph Sisko into Section 31 could offer intriguing new layers to familiar ancillary characters.

I have a theory about Star Trek: Section 31, and what Michelle Yeoh's Emperor Philippa Georgiou is doing in Star Trek's first streaming movie. Section 31 is Academy Award-winner Michelle Yeoh's long-awaited return to Star Trek. Georgiou was written out of Star Trek: Discovery season 3 so that she could topline a Section 31 spinoff, which was originally to be an ongoing series before it was refashioned into the first Star Trek movie made for streaming on Paramount+. But what is Georgiou up...

Eddie Murphy Gets Real on Why Beverly Hills Cop 3 Didn't Work
Image
Eddie Murphy reflects on why Beverly Hills Cop 3 flopped, citing missing characters and low stakes. Omission of key characters and clichs contributed to the failure of Beverly Hills Cop 3. Murphy hopes to redeem the franchise with Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F and potentially a fifth film.

Eddie Murphy is set to return as Axel Foley in Netflixs Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F which hits the streamer on July 3, 2024, but before that, the 63-year-old star recently took time to reflect on why Beverly Hills Cop 3 didnt connect with audiences. Released on May 25, 1994, the third outing in the Beverly Hills Cop franchise was a critical failure for a number of reasons, only managing to take in $119 million at the box office against a budget of $70 million. Its widely regarded as the worst entry in the series thus far, and currently holds only an 11% rating on Rotten Tomatoes among critics.

Why Beverly Hills Cop 4 Took So Long To Get Made, According To Eddie Murphy
Image
Eddie Murphy waited for the right script to evolve Axel Foley's character in Beverly Hills Cop 4, adding personal depth and a unique story. The film explores Axel's reconciliation with his estranged daughter, providing a new angle to his return to Beverly Hills after thirty years. Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F aims to expand on previous installments by giving Axel a deeply personal reason to come back, rather than a generic mission.

Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F star Eddie Murphy explains why the wait for the film took so long. Set to stream on Netflix in early July, Beverly Hills Cop 4 releases thirty years after the previous movie came out, and will see Murphy reprise his role as Axel Foley after an extensive development period. Judge Reinhold, John Ashton, Paul Reiser, and Bronson Pinchot will also reprise their respective roles as Billy Rosewood, John Taggart, Jeffrey Freidman, and Serge.

Eddie Murphy says he’d be up for Beverly Hills Cop 5 because the newest film in the franchise is so good
Image
The latest installment of Eddie Murphy’s Beverly Hills Cop franchise, Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F, doesn’t come to Netflix until July 3. Still, Murphy is already discussing the possibility of a Beverly Hills Cop 5. Speaking with Today about Axel Foley’s return to screens, Murphy said he’s not opposed to playing the character again if the story is there.

When asked about playing the wise-cracking, case-solving Axel Foley in Beverly Hills Cop 5, Eddie Murphy said, “I hope so because this movie turned out so good, especially if you grew up watching the movie, then you’ll really, really love this new picture.”

Speaking about Axel Foley’s appeal, Murphy says the trick to his lasting popularity is that he has something for everyone to relate to. “Axel is the everyman. He’s not a superhero or super cop. He’s the everyman that rises to the occasion.

How Total Recall Created Sci-Fi Mutant Kuato Without An Ounce Of CGI
Image
Paul Verhoeven's 1990 film "Total Recall" takes place in the distant future of 2084. Mars has not only been colonized, but it has also fallen under the rule of an evil governor named Vilos Cohaagen (Ronny Cox). The planet is rich with a rare, valuable ore called turbinium, but mining it has caused widespread pollution and radiation. Many of the Martian citizens have mutated as a result, their bodies sprouting extra body parts or sporting unusual growths. In many cases, mutants are also mildly psychic. To combat Cohaagen's corruption, a Mutant Resistance has formed, led by the mysterious and difficult-to-find Kuato (Marshall Bell).

The protagonist of "Total Recall" is Quaid (Arnold Schwarzenegger), a former agent for Cohaagen who had his memory erased and his identity changed. It takes a long while for Quaid to understand what happened to him, but he eventually discovers that he has to combat Cohaagen and help the Mutant Resistance.

For some of the Starfleet officers on this list, the vast majority of their heroics and adventures remain only in the imaginations of fans. Tom Priestley, Oscar-Nominated Film Editor on ‘Deliverance,’ Dies at 91
Image
Tom Priestley, the British film editor whose work assembling the dueling-banjos sequence and hellish “squeal like a pig” attack in John Boorman’s Deliverance landed him an Oscar nomination, has died. He was 91.

His death on Christmas Day was only recently revealed.

Priestley also cut two other movies helmed by Boorman: Leo the Last (1970), which won the best director award at the Cannes Film Festival, and Exorcist II: The Heretic (1977).

He also edited The Great Gatsby (1974); Blake Edwards’ The Return of the Pink Panther (1975); That Lucky Touch (1975), starring Roger Moore; Voyage of the Damned (1976), featuring an all-star cast; and Roman Polanski’s Tess (1979).

Priestley was the only son of renowned British novelist and playwright J.B. Priestley, who wrote the classic 1945 drama An Inspector Calls for the theater and served as a BBC Radio broadcaster during the Dunkirk evacuation of World War II.

Upon its release in 1972, Deliverance became the...

Every Beverly Hills Cop Movie Ranked
Image
As Hollywood neared the midpoint of the 1980s, the industry had abandoned the risk-taking ethos of the 1970s and unabashedly embraced formula filmmaking. Stars still mattered, but the pitch was king. Studio executives keen on becoming their generation's Jack Warner, Daryl Zanuck and Louis B. Mayer were through humoring unpredictable auteurs like Martin Scorsese and Hal Ashby. They wanted can't-miss high-concept projects powered by high-wattage stars that could play for months on end in theaters because, despite the skyrocketing value of home video and pay cable channels, theatrical was still king.

"Beverly Hills Cop" traversed a rocky path from inception to production, but producers Don Simpson and Jerry Bruckheimer doggedly developed and re-developed the project until they paired a 23-year-old comedy superstar with a once-hot director who'd two years prior gotten himself fired off "WarGames." The particulars of the fish-out-of-water plot shifted many times over the years (it was nearly...

Herbert “Cowboy” Coward, the Toothless Mountain Man in ‘Deliverance,’ Dies at 85
Image
Herbert “Cowboy” Coward, who as the sadistic toothless man in John Boorman’s Deliverance terrorized canoeists and audiences alike with the chilling line, “He got a real pretty mouth, ain’t he?,” has been killed in a car accident. He was 85.

Coward died Wednesday when the Nissan he was driving was struck by a pickup truck driven by a 16-year-old in Haywood County, North Carolina, North Carolina State Highway Patrol officials told Wlos-tv.

Coward; his girlfriend, Bertha Brooks; and two pets, a chihuahua and a squirrel, died at the scene, they said. The other driver was taken to a hospital. No charges have been filed.

In the early 1960s, Burt Reynolds was making $100 a week falling off rooftops as a stuntman at the Ghost Town in the Sky amusement park in Maggie Valley, North Carolina, when he first met Coward, who was there playing an outlaw character named Pa Clanton.
