WrestleMania 40 has built one of the greatest clashes in WWE history. The rematch between Roman Reigns and Cody Rhodes, two of the most prolific and entertaining wrestlers in sports entertainment. The stakes got higher for the challenger as Reigns and The Rock defeated Rhodes and Seth Rollins on night 1 of the biggest PPV of the year. However, this was not enough as he fumbled against The American Nightmare when it mattered the most as he was finally bested by Cody Rhodes, who finally completed his long-awaited story. The WWE Hall of Fame has inducted many personalities who were in the WWE and wrestling industries and beyond. It began in 1993 with André the Giant being its sole inductee, after he passed away a few months earlier. More than 200 inductees have been added to the Hall of Fame since then, with many two-time inductees included as well.
Apart from WWE superstars, the Hall is known to have inducted many celebrities who have supported the promotion as well. Be it politicians, singers, or baseball players, everyone has a spot in the ‘celebrity wing’ of the promotion. Here are ten of the fourteen celebrities that have been inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame.

Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson comes from a family that is deeply entrenched in the history of pro wrestling. His grandfather, Peter Maivia, was a Samoan wrestler of great renown, while his father Rocky Johnson was the first Black Georgia Heavyweight Champion. However, that is not all when it comes to Johnson’s heroic wrestling lineage, as his grandmother, the wife of Peter Maivia had a pretty storied career of her own!
Dwayne Johnson in Black Adam
Lia Maivia was one of the first female promoters in wrestling, famously in charge of promoting one of wrestling’s biggest events in Hawaii, titled ‘A Hot Summer Night‘, which brought in about 20,000 spectators on August 3, 1985. The event saw some of the biggest names in wrestling come down to Hawaii, among them Bruiser Brody, Antonio Inoki, Andre the Giant, and of course, Ric Flair, who was defending his World Heavyweight Championship title.

John Cena certainly isn't the first wrestler to become a movie star. Hulk Hogan, Jesse Ventura, and Andre the Giant brought their muscles to the big screen decades ago. The late '90s and early 2000s saw Bill Goldberg and Dwayne Johnson enter the fray, with the latter becoming one of the biggest stars in Hollywood, and he's still going strong. But it wouldn't be until the likes of Dave Bautista and John Cena that we'd get a pair of wrestlers who truly stepped into the world of acting without relying mostly on their muscular presence to do the heavy lifting on the big screen for them, both literally and figuratively.
Dave Bautista has proven to be a reliable supporting star in the superhero blockbuster franchise "Guardians of the Galaxy," but he's also delivered more haunting turns in the likes of "Blade Runner 2049," "Dune," and M. Night Shyamalan's "Knock at the Cabin.

Liam Neeson has given a terrific performance across all the different genres he has starred in, as both a hero as well as a villain. A mastermind, almost all of his portrayals have been critically acclaimed worldwide, earning him the title of being one of the most renowned legendary actors of his time in Hollywood. But there was one movie that made this very legendary actor almost lose it.
Liam Neeson in The Dark Knight Rises
This film was none other than the 1993 globally praised war/documentary masterpiece, Schindler’s List. In fact, the film had such a massive impact on Neeson that it had him weak in his knees before even the cameras rolled for his first scene — so much so that it might have been the very reason the actor ended up giving one of the best performances of his entire career!

When you hear the words “professional wrestler,” whose face comes to mind? “Well, let me tell you something, brother…” there may be no more iconic figure in the world of professional wrestling than Terrence Gene Bollea. But you may know him as Hulk Hogan.
So Wtf happened to Hulk Hogan? With a career that spans over 45 years, a lot. Let’s start at the beginning. But before we do, let’s keep in mind that the source of a lot of what follows is Bollea, himself. The complete record of Terry Bollea’s life is My Life Outside the Ring, his 2009 autobiography, which is more exhaustive than 2002’s Hollywood Hogan. In an industry stocked full of duplicitous people, Hulk Hogan’s long been considered to have perhaps the most strained relationship with the truth of any of them. But neither should we let the truth get in the way of a good story.

Andre Roussimoff, popularly known as Andre the Giant was regarded as ‘the Eighth Wonder of the World’ due to his great size. Although he is mostly known for his contributions to the wrestling world since the World Wide Wrestling Foundation (Wwwf) promoter Vincent McMahon booked him as a ‘special attraction’, he famously played the character of a giant named Fezzik in the 1987 movie The Princess Bride.
Recently, The Princess Bride actress Robin Wright shed some light on her relationship with Andre the Giant, and the incident she recounted from her days on the movie’s set could not be more heartwarming.

The release date for WWE 2K24 is getting closer, and fans have been waiting to get their hands on it. The upcoming title will also include a 40 Years of WrestleMania edition, so fans can look forward to reliving some iconic matches. The roster for the game is also looking good, with several returning characters joined by a few surprise entries.
Among them, however, fans have noticed the absence of one superstar, leading to a lot of confusion, especially as the Showcase mode is filled with former WWE legends, so missing out on this particular superstar makes little to no sense, but that could still change before the game is out.

Those who don’t follow professional wrestling may not appreciate just how tough and grueling it is. It isn’t enough to be on the road 200+ days a year, getting dropped on your head or your back every night, dealing with injuries, losing your spot on the roster, and worse. If you’ve seen films like The Iron Claw, The Wrestler, or the old Beyond the Mat documentary, you know that professional wrestling is grind like no other.
But the other aspect that goes underappreciated is how much wrestling relies on acting. If you have any hope of making it big, it isn’t enough to be able to do a tope suicida or Texas Cloverleaf on the way to a 5-star mat classic. You have to be able to act your role, day in and day out. Often, you have to act live, in front of an audience of thousands,...

Both John Cena and Dwayne Johnson have successfully transitioned from WWE to acting careers. Before Cena made the jump, though, he had problems with Johnson’s career pivot. Cena frequently accused Johnson of turning his back on the WWE in favor of a film career. In recent years, Cena has apologized to Johnson for his comments, realizing they were both disrespectful and hypocritical.
John Cena criticized Dwayne Johnson for becoming an actor
In the early 2010s, Cena asserted his belief that Johnson’s pivot to acting was a slight to the WWE. Though Johnson eventually announced his return to the WWE, Cena believed he prioritized his acting career.

Few deaths in the "Indiana Jones" films as quite as unforgettable as that of Pat Roach's Nazi mechanic in "Raiders of the Lost Ark." Upon spotting Indy (Harrison Ford) duking it out with one of his fellow Nazi handymen near a plane preparing to take off, Roach's nameless, burly villain smiles to himself as he removes his shirt, clearly itching for a fight. He proceeds to give Indy quite the thrashing and might've well won their match, had he bothered to turn around in time and spot the spinning airplane propellor bearing down on him.
Roach had a knack for playing the heel, starting with his run on the British wrestling circuit. 1984’s Conan the Destroyer was an attempt to soften Arnold Schwarzenegger’s titular barbarian into a PG-rated fantasy film hero. The result was a movie that was only a middling success in theaters, being overshadowed by Arnold’s other big 1984 movie, James Cameron’s The Terminator. Conan the Destroyer proved to be the last time Arnie would play Robert E. Howard’s Cimmerian icon, and in the decades since its release the movie’s reputation has been pretty atrocious. Hardcore fans prefer John Millius’s darker, R-rated Conan the Barbarian to Richard Fleischer’s lighter, family friendly version which seemed to owe a lot more to eighties fantasy movies like The Beastmaster than Millius’s original. It’s a deeply silly film, and one of the cheapest Schwarzenegger’s films of the eighties, with him essentially forced into making this and the following year’s Red Sonja to fulfil a...

An Oscar winner for his documentary Man on Wire and the filmmaker behind 2014’s awards juggernaut The Theory of Everything, James Marsh has been away from the big screen for a few years (his last project was the 2018 heist film King of Thieves). But he comes to Cannes with two buzzy projects in the market. In Night Boat to Tangier, he takes on Kevin Barry’s New York Times best-seller with a cast including Michael Fassbender, Domhnall Gleeson and Ruth Negga.
That film hasn’t shot yet, but Marsh has already completed a rather different feature, Dance First. A sweeping account of the life of literary icon Samuel Beckett (the title is taken from his ethos, “Dance first, think later”), the film sees Gabriel Byrne as the Nobel Prize winner in a story that covers the many aspects of his younger years: from Parisian bon vivant to WWII resistance fighter and philandering husband.

Andy Kaufman may not exactly scream wrestling, but the WWE has defended its decision (certainly not the most controversial this year), noting his history in the world of sports entertainment, particularly his rivalry with Jerry “The King” Lawler. The interaction would later be memorialized in the 1999 movie biopic Man on the Moon, where Lawler appeared alongside Jim Carrey as Kaufman to recreate the iconic moment. WWE 2K23 features quite a few improvements to the franchise formula that will certainly be welcomed by wrestling game fans everywhere. Of course, some things never change, which means that WWE 2K23 still makes you unlock quite a few wrestlers via gameplay accomplishments and by spending both real and virtual currency.
The very good news is that WWE 2K23 makes the various unlock processes fairly painless. The problem is that the game doesn’t always do a great job of telling you exactly how to unlock those wrestlers or the best way to go about acquiring all of them. Hopefully, we can help ease that part of the unlock system just a bit.
How to Unlock Every WWE 2K23 Wrestler With Virtual Currency
The vast majority of wrestlers in WWE 2K23 are unlocked via the game’s Virtual Currency (Vc) system. Every wrestler available via the in-game store costs 1,000 Vc to unlock.

Though it has always been a crowd pleasing form of entertainment, the general public still somehow has mixed feelings about professional wrestling. But one way that the art form has been integrated into pop culture over the years is through crossovers with well-known stars or brands. From Cyndi Lauper and the Rock N Wrestling era to Andre the Giant in "Princess Bride," to Mickey Rourke in "The Wrestler" and "Rowdy" Roddy Piper in "It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia," to "Total Divas" on E!, there have been plenty of instances where Hollywood has brought more eyes to the world of wrestling. And the most recent example involves Golden Globe winner Paul Walter Hauser.
While the Globes don't carry the same weight as they once did (thanks to people being terrible), "Black Bird" star Hauser was excited to share his first major Hollywood award with his friends in the wrestling community. In...

The world of journalism would not be what it is if not for the contributions made by Barbara Walters. The legendary journalist recently passed away, shining a new light on her decades of interviewing everyone from world leaders to those involved in celebrity sex scandals. While Walters has rightfully come under fire for moments in which she pushed a little too hard or attempted to silence the voices of people crying out to be heard, her legacy is undeniable. The way that interviews are conducted by journalists across the globe has been modeled after Walters, with everyone from Diane Sawyer to even conspiracy-theory-peddling wackos with podcasts all emulating her style. As we look back at the over a half-century of interviews conducted by Walters, a handful of intimate discussions with some of Hollywood's biggest stars represent some of her best work. A staple of pop culture herself, Walters often connected...

Do you smell what the Duke is cookin’? Rian Johnson, director of Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, has made the claim that Dave Bautista is the best wrestler-turned-actor to ever walk down the aisle and onto the red carpet.
In a recent interview with The Atlantic, Rian Johnson heaped much praise on Dave Bautista, saying the former WWE Superstar was the biggest surprise in the ensemble cast. “When I was writing [his character, a men’s-rights streamer named Duke Cody], I was picturing a scrawny dude who’s trying to overcompensate. When Bautista was brought up, I was instantly so smitten by the idea. I’ve been a very big fan of his dramatic chops as an actor.”
When the interviewer suggested that Bautista was “low-key the greatest wrestler-to-actor ever,” Johnson agreed, even saying that could make even bigger waves under the direction of another master. “I think somebody like [Paul Thomas Anderson] is going to give him...

(Welcome to The Daily Stream, an ongoing series in which the /Film team shares what they've been watching, why it's worth checking out, and where you can stream it.)
The Movie: "The Princess Bride"
Where You Can Stream It: Disney+
The Pitch: Maybe you've watched "The Princess Bride" a thousand times. Maybe you've never seen it. Either way, I implore you to do it again. I fall into the "thousand times" category, but it had been a while. If you have not yet experienced the wonder that is "The Princess Bride," here's the deal with your future favorite comedy (I feel pretty confident in saying that).
The story begins with a young boy (Fred Savage) who is home sick. His grandfather (Peter Falk) comes to read him a story. At first, the kid is annoyed with it all and wants to skip the "kissing parts," but later gets into the tale.

This post contains spoilers for "Black Adam."
Following their careers in the squared circle, many professional wrestlers make the jump to acting in Hollywood. From Andre the Giant and "Rowdy" Roddy Piper starring in classics like "The Princess Bride" and "They Live" to Dave Bautista and John Cena being a part of the Marvel and DC universes respectively, wrestlers are scattered all over cinematic history. However, no one has achieved the same level of success in this arena as Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson.
Clearly, the former WWE Champion is in high demand. His life story is airing on NBC as a sitcom called "Young Rock," which is about to begin its third season. He's been a part of franchises like "G.I. Joe," "Jumanji," and "Fast & Furious." Johnson has even played demi-gods twice thanks to his roles in "Moana" and "Hercules." But in his latest role as the titular character of DC's "Black Adam,...

Wallace Shawn has had a long and impressive career, and yet he is best known by pretty much everyone for a single word: "Inconceivable!" Just about every character in "The Princess Bride" has at least one line so iconic that even those who've not seen the movie have heard the words uttered at some point. As far as what people are remembered for, the actor could do far worse than the beloved film, which was released in 1987 and is widely regarded as a timeless classic.

Woooo! Wrestling legend Ric Flair’s life and career is ripe for the biopic treatment, perhaps more so than even the likes of Hulk Hogan and Andre the Giant. And the man himself has an idea of who could play him: Bradley Cooper.

So, ladies and gentlemen, it’s not true that he’s playing Ric Flair. I’ve heard they’ve talked to him, that’s it. Bradley Cooper is not playing me in a movie, yet. I hope he does.”

There’s a lot going on in the wild world of Street Fighter lore. Government agents are trying to stop a supervillain from world domination, while an Andre the Giant pastiche is trying to find the perfect tag team partner. A ridiculous martial artist in pink keeps trying to prove he’s a legend (despite getting beaten into traction day after day), just as a gruff mechanic beats up an all-powerful cult leader. All the while, a Turkish grappler travels the world in hopes of figuring out the perfect cooking oil.
At the center of it all is Ryu: a wandering martial artist who dedicates his life to fighting anyone and everyone interested in going a few rounds with him. You could be out to kill him or out to give him a friendly spar, and Ryu will fight you all the same. Fighting gives him purpose and helps him find meaning.

Three years after reporting to the WWE performance center in October 2014, Sullivan finally made his presence known down in Nxt. In an era where independent veterans dominated the landscape, Sullivan stood out because he was the rare big guy in Nxt. In truth, there was nothing particularly special about Sullivan’s character. He was just another WWE heel monster.

Mark Knopfler’s score for “The Princess Bride,” to quote the film, was only mostly dead.
On Saturday, the L.A. Philharmonic will perform it live to picture at the Hollywood Bowl — and they really do mean live. The original 1987 score was recorded almost entirely using a Synclavier sampling machine, with the exception of some nylon guitar solos by Knopfler. Under veteran conductor David Newman, the music will — like Cary Elwes’ Westley — finally come back from the dead.
Rob Reiner’s swashbuckling, romantic, meta-comedic film has a legion of fans — including the many celebrities who reenacted it at home during the pandemic — but depending on who you ask, Knopfler’s artificial-sounding score is either its beautiful beating heart… or a dated ear-sore. Composer Bear McCreary (“Godzilla: King of the Monsters”) recently said: “It remains on my list of good scores that don’t age well.”

André Roussimoff, better known as the wrestler André the Giant, wasn’t only a giant in stature: he was living a legend.
In the upcoming HBO documentary, “André the Giant,” from Bill Simmons’ Ringer Films, he’s even referred to as “a god.”
The film, which debuts on Tuesday, April 10, gathers up the titans of wrestling to share their larger than life stories about André.

There’s Arnold Schwarzenegger telling of the time that when he tried to pick up the check at dinner, André instead picked Arnie up and put him on an armoire like he was a rag doll. And of course, everyone has a legendary story aboutAndré’s drinking. Ric Flair says in the film that he and André once put away 106 beers.
But there were a lot of stories that couldn’t fit into the documentary, even for someone as big as André (he officially stood 7-foot-4). Here’s one from “André the Giant” director Jason Hehir, who spoke with TheWrap to share a couple of stories that were cut for time.

André had a reputation from “The Princess Bride” as something of a “gentle giant,” as director Rob Reiner puts it in the HBO doc. But here’s a story that shows a more dangerous side of André.
“This legendary story that [Ric] Flair was there for. It was at this beachside bar. I forget if he said it was in Charlottesville, or somewhere down south, along the beach,” Hehir recalled.
“And Blackjack Mulligan reaches across the table and punches André in the face. And André grabs Mulligan and one other guy, Dusty Rhodes maybe or someone, and drags them out onto the shore and starts drowning both of them,” he said. And Flair had to come out and break up the fight. And then André just turned around, walked in and sat down and started drinking again.”
That was just a glimpse into the anarchy of those days.

Another story dates back when André was when he was 18. “Back in those days, you had to enlist in the army if you were an 18-year-old male in France,” Hehir said. “And one of the reasons why he got into wrestling is — he could have been off enlisted in the army somewhere, training, but he didn’t have any uniforms that would fit him. So, he kind of fell through the cracks because of that. Ironically, a guy that size falls through the cracks,” he laughed.
“And then soon after that is when he was ‘discovered’ as a pro wrestler. So when he’s 18 he’s supposed to be fitted and he can’t fit into that uniform. When he’s 19, that’s when you see that black and white video of him [training as a wrestler] that we showed,” Hehir explained.
Hehir admits his “bulls— detector” went off a bit on that first story, and made a judgment to keep it out based on a lack of “evidence and plausibility.”
André passed away in 1993, but his legend still lives on.
“André the Giant” premieres on HBO Tuesday, April, 10 at 10 p.m. Et/Pt. Check back with TheWrap for more from our conversation with Hehir on Tuesday.

Jane Jenkins, the casting director of “The Princess Bride,” looked at a lot of tall men for the part of the giant Fezzik. But in her mind, there was only one giant who could plausibly haul three people up the Cliffs of Insanity: André the Giant.
In speaking with TheWrap, Jenkins explained how André Roussimoff, better known as André the Giant and quite literally the biggest wrestler in the world, got out of a wrestling match in Tokyo and ended up cast in Rob Reiner’s cult classic comedy “The Princess Bride.” Jenkins and Reiner met with the book’s author William Goldman to find out just what they were dealing with.
“So this Fezzik character, this giant, what are we talking about? Am I looking for a basketball player,” Jenkins recalls asking Goldman. “Oh no, I want a giant like André the Giant,” was his reply, referring to the late star who is the subject of a new HBO documentary produced by Bill Simmons’ Ringer Films titled “André the Giant.”

The first problem was, Jenkins didn’t know who that was. “You don’t know who André the Giant is,” her friend told her at the time. “He is, pardon the pun, a huge wrestler!” (Roussimoff was billed to be 7 feet 4 inches tall.)
Jenkins then tracked down his contact at the World Wrestling Federation (now the WWE) and simply asked to meet him for a movie Reiner was directing. But they learned that André had a conflict with a wrestling match in Tokyo for which he would be paid millions, and unless they were willing to buy it out and match his salary, he was unavailable.
“So we did not have André the Giant,” Jenkins said. “So I proceeded to meet every tall person in L.A. and say ‘if you didn’t duck in through my doorway, you were way too short.'”

Among some of the other potential Fezziks, Jenkins met with Carel Struycken, another 7-footer who was already committed to do a part in “The Witches of Eastwick.” She met a Scottish man who was known as the strongest man in the world, but wasn’t “the tallest man in the world.” And she even met a man she described as being like Ichabod Crane who, when they shook hands, made her own hand feel like “an infant’s hand inside a catcher’s mitt.”
“He said in a British accent, ‘I see there are a lot of fight scenes. I have a rather awkward center of gravity. Would there be a double for me,'” Jenkins recalled. “I don’t think that we can double you,” she responded.
But as if bestowed by Miracle Max himself, André’s fight was canceled, so Reiner and producer Andrew Scheinman dropped everything — literally leaving during an audition — to fly out to Paris and meet the Frenchman. Reiner told TheWrap via email that Scheinman read lines along with André, and Reiner ultimately put all of Fezzik’s lines onto a tape recorder for André to study and learn.

In upcoming HBO doc, Reiner explains that André had auditioned for the part, but upon their first meeting, the filmmaker couldn’t understand a word he said. Reiner also added that André’s sensitive side came to define the cliche of the “gentle giant.”
