World Monkey Day is an unofficial international holiday celebrated on December 14th each year. The holiday highlights monkeys and "all things simian", including other non-human primates such as gorillas, baboons, capuchins, gibbons and chimpanzees. In honor of the day:

* Old World monkeys are scientifically classified in the primate taxonomy family Cercopithecidae, comprising talapoin, patas, vervet, guenon, macaque, mangabey, baboon, gelada, drill, mandrill and other related monkey species. These species' natural habitat is the tropical regions of Africa, Asia and Europe on the Eastern Hemisphere continents (with its sole surviving European habitat species residing on Gibraltar). They also are part of the broader Haplorhini suborder, containing all the higher primates including tarsiers, New World monkeys, Old World monkeys, and apes.
