Wealthy, lecherous Zamindar Thakur Vir Pratap Singh lords over a small region in rural India, mercilessly killing anyone who opposes his rule. He gets the male villagers addicted to gambling and sexually molests the female villagers under false pretenses. When the same happen to Sundariya, which results in her losing her mental balance, her two brothers form a gang which includes three other male members from the village to put an end to the tyrannical rule of the Thakur.

A young woman must try to keep a one-night stand that she had in college a secret from her husband who happens to be one of his best friends, and thowart a persistant blackmailer intent on collecting money from her to keep quite about it.

Maya, coming from poor family, is married to the affluent Dr. Anand; but she tries to commit suicide on the nuptial night. She tells Anand that she was in love with Prem whose ambition was to be a music director. He too was in love with her but thought she would not be happy as his wife. Anand tells Maya that he had married her only for his mother who was on her death bed. When the mother dies Anand wants to unite Prem and Maya but Prem says it is against Hindu culture and disappears from their life.

Kaali lives a middle class and common-man life with his sister Seeta in a shanty house. He works at a small train station nearby with an Engineer called Vinay. Kaali is the eldest in his household and is stern and class-conscious about his sister with whom she meet and does not meet. One day he happen to meet up with Mangla, his sister's friend and leading companion, Mangla wanted to marry Kaali as she is in love with him but he does not have any interest over her. Kaali sister confronts him and he suddenly falls in love with Mangla and they both get married. A few days later Kaali reach with an accident and looses his left arm and he holds Vinay the Engineer responsible for the accident. Vinay, however falls head over heels in love with Kaali sister Seeta but Kaali reject him of having any relationship with his family since he is responsible for Kaali's condition.

Shekhar is in love with Pooja and would like to marry her. Pooja is the only daughter of Choudhury, the apple of his eye, and he agrees to get her married to Shekhar. Shekhar informs his parents, his dad, and his stepmother, and together they all go to Choudhury's house to finalize the marriage. At this point, Shekhar's stepmother asks for a hefty sum as dowry, which the Choudhury is unable to afford, and thus the proposal for marriage falls flat, with the Choudhury vowing that he will get his daughter married elsewhere. Shekhar is disgusted with his stepmother, and leaves home and comes to Choudhury and attempts to convince him to reconsider, but Choudhury is adamant, and goes ahead to plan his daughter's marriage with Atmaram, leaving both Shekar and Roopa devastated, and unsure what plan of action to adopt.

While on a tiger-hunt, aristocrats Thakur and Sehgal got into a dispute about which of them shot the tiger. The dispute escalated into fisticuffs and a gunfight; Sehgal got killed, and Thakur got seriously wounded. Sehgal's son swore to avenge his father's death and raced over to kill Thakur, who died before he could get there. Since then bitterness and anger has existed between these two families. Years later, Jai Singh Sehgal and Durga Digvijay fall in love with each other. Both Digvijay Thakur and Hari Singh Sehgal are against this marriage. Jai's brother Vishal manages to pacify his father and convinces him that it is in the best interest of both families that this marriage take place. Shortly thereafter, Vishal gets killed, and the only persons who could have killed him are Thakur's men. It is now up to Jai to avenge Vishal's death and sacrifice his love for Durga. Will he be able to carry out his duty?

Mamta lives a middle-class lifestyle in Bombay with her widower dad Ratanmuni Gupta, who works as a Manager with Sharda Chemicals while she studies in Lovedale College in Manori. Her dad wants her to marry a naive, semi-senile Munna, the only son of widowed Sharda, his employer. On the day of the engagement she humiliates her dad, Munna, and Sharda and refuses to marry Munna. Shortly thereafter, a number of young children die after being injected with medication from Sharda Chemicals. Yhe Police investigate and arrest Sharda, while Munna kills himself. Ratanmuni and his partners, D.S. Mittal, Mehra, Radhey, and Shyam, take over Sharda Chemicals and re-name it Friends Chemicals. Sometime later when Mamta returns from Manori, her dad introduces her to wealthy Mrs. Modi, who wants her to wed her only son, Azad. Azad and Mamta approve of each other, meet, and get intimate. On the day of their engagement, many surprises await Mamta as she finds out that the man she got intimate with is not the real Azad, while the real Azad and his mom will have nothing to do with a now-characterless Mamta.

Raja Bhaiya and Charan come to the big city to make a living, but cannot find jobs. While eating some food, they are taunted and physically assaulted by Kallu Dada, a physical altercation ensues, Raja wins and becomes the local uncrowned underworld don, and both make a living collecting Hafta (weekly bribes) from shopkeepers and local businesses. He starts drinking alcohol and frequents the bar run by local belle Rasili. Raja meets with Laxmi Rao and is attracted to her, he comes to her assistance when her dad, Mohan, passes away, by helping to cremate him; he comes to her aid again when Kallu and his goons attempt to sexually molest her; and when the municipality tear down her shanty hut, he decides to let her live with him. Due to her influence, he gives up his bad habits and decides to go straight. Things go well, so much so that both get ready to get married to each other in a simple temple ceremony organized by the community. On the wedding day, things spiral out of control when a Professor, an old beau of Laxmi, shows up, proposing marriage to her on one hand, while an alcohol-induced Raja is arrested and held for killing Kallu.
