This was a live episode to celebrate 50 years of ITV. Jeffrey Clarke has taken Superintendent Amanda Prosser hostage and corners the 2 Kent brothers David and the real Gabriel. Jack gets roped in to do the speech little knowing the drama unfolding upstairs. Panic ensues when a gun goes off. Roger fills in Jack and Sam on Mr Clarke state of mind. A fight for the gun ends with 2 people shot. Gabriel gets Jeffrey to let him attend to his injured brother. Gina is nervous when required to be the negotiator despite being suspended and becomes concerned when Mr Clarke talks about time running out. Prosser starts to freeze when the pressure ramps up. Terry tries to get through to Jeffrey when he claims he has done something to the accused driver. It's up to the team to save a life and defuse the situation.

Yvonne and Roger attend a car accident involving a young boy running out into the road who later dies in hospital. They then take the distraught father Mr Clarke to see his son. Sheelagh shows off her ring to the relief. Reg lines up a guest speaker for the Sun Hill celebrations and ropes in Tony and Lance to help. June pressures Gabriel to tell the truth to Sheelagh as he tries to tell her he's changed. Mr Clarke is furious when told the joyrider won't be charged with manslaughter due to insufficient evidence. Smithy tells Adam about Gina and asks for his help. Former Superintendent Barnett wants a tour and accompanies Tony out on patrol. Roger has to arrest Mr Clarke when he assaults the driver. Adam visits Gina to persuade her to fight for her job but she is still reluctant. Barnett's old fashion ideas test Lance's patience. The real Gabriel Kent turns up at the station to see June but someone gets to him first. The two Kent brothers have it out around the deception. The celebrations turn into a hostage crisis when Mr Clarke turns up demanding justice.

An effort to catch the members of the Polish community in the protection racket leads to a death. A planned trap goes wrong and the police don't get their intended target.

A major road traffic accident in Sun Hill sees a seriously injured man, Adrian Collins, rushed to St Hugh's Hospital. When a handgun and balaclava are discovered in Collins' car, Collins admits he was on his way to a bank robbery. When an alarm is triggered at a nearby bank, Smithy realizes the robbery has proceeded without Collins. With SO19 delayed in traffic, Smithy has trouble commanding the respect of his officers with rumors of Young's alleged rape. An angry Tait confronts him, and the two nearly come to blows until they agree to concentrate on the job at hand. The situation gets even worse when the bank's terrified manager is pushed out into the street with a bomb strapped to his waist.

A special live edition to mark the 20th anniversary of the pilot episode, Storyboard's "Woodentop". While Ackland and Carver get to reminisce over their first meeting, things are more serious elsewhere, including Becker being held hostage.

Kerry does the dirty on David Radford and sets him up to be caught during an armed robbery, and Gabriel harassed June whilst the pair are investigating a hit-and-run. Meanwhile, Okaro briefs the team on the possibility that Sun Hill has a serial sniper in its midst, and Rob attempts to do a deal with a suspect in order to secure David Radford's conviction.

Neil is in shock as Andrea tries to explain. June and Roger go out but someone catches a private moment between them. Amber is hungover for her final driving exam while Dan wants to celebrate and Leela is put to the test. Sam is confident of securing a conviction for The Kennedy rape trial but is humiliated on the stand. Smithy has to crack a suspected racially motivated dispute involving one of the PSOs. Tony tries to get June to see sense. Andrea is desperate to make a difference by exposing Gabriel but Neil wants her to resign by the end of the day. Andrea tells Smithy she will have the evidence by tomorrow. Andra begs Neil to give her one more day on the job. Bruce lands Andrea in it with Meadows and Okaro.

Sun Hill learns Dunbar's true identity just as she's about to rumble some secrets of her own, while one officer's ugly side leads to a dismissal and a catastrophic revenge plan.

Gabriel stands over a trapped Andrea as part of the station burns. Okaro tries to coordinate the evacuation. Smithy lies trapped under a beam. June , Tony and Leela have do deal with the prisoners. Gabriel pulls Smithy free but leaves Andrea screaming for help. Reg waits for Marilyn at the train station not knowing she was caught in the blast. Ramini helps a panicked Margaret Barnes down the Fire stairs. Gabriel starts to panic. Two of the prisoners escape. The team find out Ken was in the back of the van when it blew up. Reg rushes to the hospital. Jim catches the prisoners but over steps the mark when one of them mocks Ken's death. June struggles in the aftermath. Tony tells Jim off. Neil in breaks-down when Gina confirms Andrea was found dead in the building. Okaro briefs the relief. Gabriel stands emotionless.

Officers from Sun Hill take part in midnight raids to arrest the men implicated in the shooting. Witness Alisha Daniels is placed under police protection.

Sargent Smith is found by Tony and Yvonne in his crashed car with an empty vodka bottle. He claims he was drugged but blows over the limit and has to be arrested. Smithy's world comes crashing down when told Louise is dead. The relief are shocked when seeing Smithy in such a disheveled state. Yvonne steps up as Acting Sargent while the investigation is underway. DCI Keane is assigned to run the investigation. Smithy tells Zain he thinks he has been set up by Pete Larson. Smithy starts getting flashbacks. A new witness identifies Smithy as the driver.

Smithy declares his love for Kerry. Rob and Debbie investigate a music marketing company involved with fly posting, Gabriel and June are led on a wild-goose chase by a mugger, and Kerry's flat is broken into by Gabriel, before being searched by Andrea, looking to dispose of the evidence of her role as a journalist. Kerry's father goes into a coma, forcing her to re-evaluate her life and job, and when he recovers she finally chooses Smithy. However, after declaring her love for Smithy in front of the station, she is tragically shot by Gabriel.

After being shot by the evil Gabriel, Kerry dies in hospital. Gabriel tries to cover his tracks, but June and Steve both suspect his involvement in Kerry's death. Morrell reveals that Kerry was three months pregnant with Gabriel's baby, much to his shock. Was trying to cover his tracks necessary payment for the life of his unborn son? Smithy questions Okaro in his decision to delay the ambulance that took Kerry to hospital.

Explicit photos of a young girl are found on the laptop of a man who is friends with an already known paedophile, but neither can keep their story straight on where the photos came from and who took them.

Sgt Boyden and PC Stamp attempt to contain a father who wants revenge for his murdered son.

A troubled fan, Larry Franks is taken in for questioning by Tony as CCTV footage shows him close to the crime scene. Cindy's half brother is also in the frame due to a filmed argument. Leela is attacked by a skinhead when opening her front door. When Smithy and Kezia attend the incident they find a bag of heroin in the flat.

Cindy Statham, a celebrity model is found murdered in her luxury home. Lorna heading the forensic team tells Jo and Stuart that the body is posed and could be linked to anti fur activism. The case is further complicated by links to several disgruntled admirers as well as a young girl linked to underage porn.

With Sgt. Doug Wright out of critical condition after the stabbing, his life may still be at risk. As suspects are being rounded up and questioned, Sgt. Nikki Wright is left puppy walking two new recruits.

Superintendent Amanda Prosser is furious with Gina for drinking on duty. Gina meanwhile is trying to help a confused old man when he is trespassing on his previous property. Sam tells Zain that Pete Larson's business partner Garrison has spit from him and setting up on his own. Gina tries to pled her reasoning with Prosser but is humiliated and has to back down. Sam and Zain follow Garrison. Mr Towner goes missing and has a gun. Superintendent Prosser gives the go ahead for SO 19 when Gina can't be reached but Mr Towner is not at that address. Gina diffuses the situation with Mr Towner when he is found at the previous location. Smithy meets up with Louise again but they are nearly caught out. Zain finds Garrison shot in the head and he believes it is Larson. Prosser doesn't support Gina when the Burroughs Commander rips into her over the gun incident and suspends Gina on the spot.

Sheelagh demands answers from Gabriel who finally admits that he is David Kent. Smithy tells June that he suspected that David raped Kerrie. David tells his story and apologizes to Sheelagh but she can't trust him anymore. When trying to leave David hits her. David returns to Sun Hill and acts as if nothing has happened. Leela and Steve attend to a stolen BMW. June wants to keep an eye on David so takes him out on patrol. Laura and Tony find Sheelagh tied up and gagged. David plans to do away with his brother Gabriel and stages a fire alarm at the hospital then attempts to suffocate him. Sam finds out the true identity of Gabriel Kent. Steve tries to help a pregnant Kate. Smithy asks for Sam's help in arresting David but he's still with June who's now in danger. The race is on to save June.

The search is on for PC Harman and Scott Burnett little knowing that Honey has gone with him willingly. Scott tries to organize a boat to get to Ireland. Amber lands Dan in an awkward situation. Scott's sister is interviewed. Scott's friend gives Honey some home truth about Scott. Steve finds out where the fugitives could be. Tony and Yvonne deal with a thief. Honey is scared when Scott turns violent. Scott tries to commit suicide but Honey saves him. Yvonne finds herself in a dangerous position.

Hollis reprimands three youths who are seen harassing a bus driver, but the situation takes a dangerous turn when one of the youths pulls out a gun, and they hijack the bus with Hollis, the driver and a busload of terrified passengers. When Hollis realizes that the gun is one of the replicas from the Coal Lane estate, it backfires, hitting the driver. Best and Harman spot the runaway bus and end up in pursuit, but their moment of glory is lost when Taviner and Murphy take over the pursuit in the area car. Meanwhile, Harman and Tait investigate a green-thumbed resident at a retirement home, whose plants are not exactly of the legal variety, and Page's friend Dr. Owen Preston comes under suspicion.

PC Hemmingway finds herself in a hostage situation, but as he deals with it, Superintendent Heaton has other things on his mind, much to her annoyance.
