Fan Cast -- American McGee's Alice

ALICE LIDDELL -- Alice is a young woman dealing with a lot of psychological issues, suffering form survivor's guilt, trauma, madness and deep sorrow from her personal tragedies. Yet, despite her defunct snarkiness and reliance on violence, the character has a strong sense of justice, a good wit, and a kind heart.

Anya Taylor-Joy has had an incredible career so far with the acting chops to match. She has previously played characters in shows and films that dive into a person's psyche and how their minds work (like in "The Queen's Gambit") and experience in horror like "The Witch". She can bring Alice's complex personality and mind to life with such potential panache and terror.

My first alt. choice for Alice Liddell, Millie Bobby Brown has proven she can play characters who carry a lot of burdens, trauma, and anger, such as in "Stranger Things", but also one who is loving, strong-hearted, and indomitable.

My second alt. choice for Alice Liddell, Dafne Keen would make a great Alice, primarily based on her role in "His Dark Materials", possessing the cleverness, wit, and energy needed for the character. Her role in "Logan" was angry, vicious, and violent - needed qualities for Alice as she fights through her own corrupted Wonderland.

DOCTOR WILSON -- Alice's psychiatrist during her time in Rutledge Asylum, Dr. Wilson comes across as a hardworking, dedicated, and patient man who strives to stir Alice from her catatonic state. The character's in-game journal portrays him as a figure who goes from a stern doctor, to developing a fatherly fixation on curing Alice.

James Cosmo is quite good at playing fatherly, if imposing characters. His previously acting alongside Dafne Keen in "His Dark Materials" is a good reference point.

NURSE D. -- An asylum nurse who works to cure Alice, acting often against doctor's orders to provide unorthodox measures to help Alice's health. The casting is primarily based on Gemma Jones playing Madam Pomfrey in Harry Potter, being a maternal if sharp woman who is intolerant towards blustering fools.

LIZZIE LIDDELL -- Alice's late, older sister, who becomes a major presence during the sequel. Though beautiful and composed, Lizzie is headstrong, outspoken, and bright, sharing Alice's wit and higher senses. The character haunts Alice's journey, and should be portrayed as a character who hovers over the story aside from being a victim.

Raffey Cassidy carries a sense of grace to her, but is outgoing and fierce in her roles.

MRS. LIDDELL -- Despite being a minor role, Alice's mother would be crucial to her character growth and past. I imagine her as being a worrying, fussy woman who fears a lot about her daughters and family, but is as fierce as a lion.

ARTHUR LIDDELL -- Alice's father, an Oxford University professor, historian, scholar, and tech enthusiast, Arthur would be a flawed man who values merit and new ideas, but often fails to notices potential dangers or that people may have ulterior motives. Yet, he would be a good father to Alice, wise and kind. I chose Tobias Menzies primarily because I enjoyed his chemistry with Olivia Colman in "The Crown", and it let him explore a different type of parental character.

DR. BUMBY -- Alice's psychiatrist at Houndsditch Home for Wayward Youths and the true antagonist of the story, Dr. Bumby is a manipulative, sly, charismatic man who performs despicable acts under the guise of a philanthropist. His darker vices lie just beneath the surface, materialising within Alice's mind. He knows what words to use to manipulate others and has little regard for the lives he plays with.

David Thewlis was the only actor I imagined in the role. He has portrayed mentor figures before, often who has a darker side. And when he plays truly vile characters, he does them exceptionally well. There has always been something a little unnerving about Thewlis' performances, even when playing good guys. That's what makes him such a diverse character actor.

NURSE PRIS WITLESS -- Alice's old nurse and carer from the asylum, Pris is a pigeon fancier, rum-chugger, and blackmailer. Though acting like a sweet old lady, she feels unappreciated and run down, born a century too late. A small part of her cares for Alice, but she blackmails her for money, believing she murdered her family.

Sue Johnston played Ms. Denker in "Downton Abbey", a self-assured, manipulative, comical trickster, clever and witty, but a little too overconfident in her own talents. Johnston makes a good villain, though one with a heart beneath all the greed.

NAN SHARPE -- Alice's former nanny turned madame of the Mangled Mermaid. She is tough but motherly, caring deeply for Alice, but will put her foot down when it comes to the girl's antics. She is a woman who has been through a lot, being more jaded towards the suffering of others.

This was a hard choice, but I chose Rosamund Pike, as I feel she has the ability to play characters who are both loving and cynical, as seen in "Gone Girl".

RADCLIFFE -- The Liddell family solicitor, Radcliffe is an eccentric, uppity man who really only cares for Alice on a professional level, more interested in liquidating her inheritance to use for his retirement. He likes the finer things in life and always has a trick up his sleeve.

Stephen Fry is often used entirely for comedy, but it would neat to see him in a slightly more serious role, able to play snobbish, upper class gentlemen rather well (such as Mycroft Holmes). He has a way with words and is a very passionate actor.

JACK SPLATTER -- An abusive pimp. This is a relative minor role, but Ralph Ineson would be great in the role, able to both charming and cool in his roles, and has a memorably deep voice which would suit Jack Splatter.

THE QUEEN OF HEARTS -- The mad queen is primarily used as the shell for Alice's darker side, but is still a force to be reckoned with. Driven by a wild rage and murderous madness, the Queen is ruthless, unpredictable, and just wants Alice dead or under her control. In the second game, the Queen resembles either Alice or Lizzie, so she would be played by the same actress.

Alice Krige would be amazing as the Queen of Hearts, capable of being this uproarious, rage-filled monster, or is able to play sinister, deceitful characters whose anger simmers beneath a cool exterior. My favourite role of Krige is in "Silent Hill".

CHESHIRE CAT -- Alice's constant companion and guide. He appears sinister, but is very wise, honest, truthful, and has a wicked sense of humour. He tells Alice what she needs to hear, though often in cryptic words and with a big grin. Roger L. Jackson voices Cheshire in the games.

THE WHITE RABBIT -- Michael Sheen previously played the rabbit in Tim Burton's 2010 film, but I feel he could do well in reprising his role here. Twitchy, impatient, and urgent, the Rabbit guides Alice through Wonderland, being blunt in his words, but compels Alice to continue onward.

THE CATERPILLAR -- This "smushy layabout" serves as a mentor figure in Alice's mind, providing guidance and wisdom, though often with frosty sharpness and has a calculating, controlling streak. He doesn't just give answers, but forces Alice to undergo challenges first. He has best intentions at heart, being hard on Alice for her to deal with her problems.

Richard Wilson is an actor who has played strict, mean, and grumpy characters a lot, but his role as Gaius in "Merlin" really inspired me to cast him as the Caterpillar, being fatherly and wise, but straightforward and honest when needed.

THE MAD HATTER -- The Hatter has been twisted by Alice's trauma, becoming a mad scientist hoping to turn her into an automaton to protect her mind. In the second game, he is a erratic ally who wants revenge against his old friends. He personifies Alice's self-preservation, but his personality/objectives vary depending on the situation.

There were many different choices for the Hatter, but Doug Jones could do very well in the physical, creepy side of the character.

THE JABBERWOCK -- The dragon that Alice must slay to overcome her guilt. A terrifying, cruel, and merciless creature, the Jabberwock uses both words and menace to halt Alice's progress, being her biggest, hardest enemy to overcome.

Though it is a little typecasting, but Benedict Cumberpatch would be great in the role. His commanding presence and voice worked wonders for Smaug, and it could do the same for the Jabberwock.

THE DUCHESS -- The Duchess is a minor villain/ally in the games, but is certainly memorable, being a monstrous cannibal with an addiction to pepper. In the second game, she becomes a more affable character, which makes Alice distrust her even less.

Pam Ferris has played similar characters in the past, like Aunt Marge in Harry Potter, and Miss Trunchball in "Matilda", playing real nasty pieces of work. Interestingly, she has actually played the Duchess before in "Malice in Wonderland".

THE MARCH HARE -- A minor character in the first game, but a major villain in the second. The March Hare is a nutty, angry, and bitter character who is willing to watch Wonderland burn if it means getting revenge on Alice and the Hatter.

Robert Carlyle can really capture the insanity and rage of the character, primarily inspired by his role as Rumplestiltskin in "Once Upon A Time".

THE DORMOUSE -- The March Hare's co-conspirator, who is even crazier, teetering on shrieking half the time and has jumped into a pit of deep despair.

Lee Evans is mostly known for his comical roles, but it would be interesting to see him in a more unstable and dangerous performance.

BILL MCGILL -- A cowardly, comical, brandy-drinking chameleon who is friends with Alice.

Though a minor role, Ricky Gervais springs to mind in the role. One of the most recognised British comedians, Gervais could bring some great humour and jibes for the character, and even bring some more development to Bill's few scenes.

THE MOCK TURTLE -- A thoroughly depressed and mopey character, the Turtle does willingly aid Alice, but often for a cost and believes she is too consumed by her own suffering to take notice of others. He is a good-natured character, but has an edge behind his tears.

John Bradley is more of a comical, jolly performer, but I feel he could capture the heart and emotional depth of the character, particularly when it comes to the fear and frustration the Mock Turtle feels.

THE GRYPHON -- A courageous, wise, and fearless figure who serves as Alice's champion. He encourages Alice to be true to herself, defending her to the end.

Liam Neeson would bring both the Gryphon's kindness and fierceness to life in a similar role to Aslan, bringing courage and comfort to Alice.
