A creature named Kyubey offers Madoka and Sayaka a wish if they agree to become 'magical girls' and fight abstract beings called 'witches'. However, a magical girl named Homura is, for uncertain reasons, determined to stop this agreement.

A mysterious creature "Kyubey" offers a young girl named Madoka Kaname the chance to have any one wish granted to her. In exchange she must battle evil creatures named "Witches" at the risk of losing her life.

As the truth behind the girls' contracts with Kyubey is revealed, Madoka has to make the ultimate decision to either see those she love the most die before her eyes or to sacrifice her life as a normal girl and help out her friends in need.

Madoka Kaname used to be a normal girl living happy days of her life. This all ended when she sacrificed herself in order to save other magical girls from the utterly cruel fate that awaited them. Unable to let her memories of Madoka die, Homura Akemi continues to fight alone in the world that Madoka left behind for humanity in order to see her smile once more.

A white creature named Kyubey has the power to grant girls any single wish. In exchange for that wish, however, they must become magical girls and fight against creatures known as Witches. A rumor soon begins to spread among magical girls that they can be saved from their duty by going to Kamihama City. Iroha Tamaki, a girl who had originally forgotten the wish she had made to become a magical girl, one day encounters a smaller Kyubey and remembers that she made a wish to cure her younger sister Ui of her illness. Realising that Ui has become missing somehow, Iroha travels to Kamihama City in order to find answers, encountering many other magical girls along the way.
