John Wayne
Favorite movies of his in order (top 25). My list is based on which movies I like, there are a few of his movies that to me are way overrated, especially Baby Face & The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance. He was barely in Baby Face so that movie is getting propped up by feminists. For Valance, I'm not a fan of Jimmy Stewart for this type of movie, he just doesn't come across as credible. It's definitely not deserving of an 8 rating.
I recently watched or re-watched all the movies I've rated, at 95 right now & these are my top 25. I haven't seen 1 of his best because it hasn't aired on tv or I missed it, based on other top 25 lists that only consists of The Longest Day.
I wasn't planning on watching all of the Wayne movies, as most of them came out before I was born. I also watched around 10 other older movies, all because of the propaganda coming out of the film makers the last 5 years. You can't watch a new movie today, unless it's foreign, that doesn't have some agenda it's trying to shove down your throat. The PC 'Karen's' have ruined films for me, I've never stopped watching movies until the last 5 yrs & that's become a large list if you include the ones I don't even want to watch, as the agenda is so in your face you know it's not worth watching. Movies used to be an escape from the crap of everyday life & now they added the crap into the escape. Pathetically, it's how they live, whining about everything. You can see them in the reviews of movies today about films of the past, 'that was racist'. The same people overlook the blatant negative & biased treatment others are getting today, it's only groups they support that shouldn't be treated that way, nonstop hypocrites.
Comparing to Clint Eastwood movies, I prefer Clint's overall. The spaghetti westerns were superior to most of Wayne's westerns, just more watchable & not as cheesy (especially the over the top female characters put in for feminists & the constant addition of some musician for ratings I'm assuming, a better actor in that role may have made for a better movie). Even more modern films like Pale Rider & Unforgiven would be in Wayne's top 10 for me. As for the non-westerns, Clint's Dirty Harry series & his directed movies surpass most of Wayne's work. That's just my opinion, I'm sure the older than me generation thinks differently.
Comparing John Ford & Sergio Leone, I prefer Sergio Leone's style.
I want my westerns with good men & bad men, the women should be playing a small role as they played a small role in reality, unfortunately the feminists have started demanding they be more involved in everything, you can't even have a male-centric movie anymore, but you sure can have a female-centric movie, they come out every week. I think this started to get really bad in the 40's after WWII, at least for the Wayne movies.
One of Wayne's movies that perfectly reflects what I'm talking about here is Tall in the Saddle '44. The hotheaded female gets her way, even lying that he made love to her to make the nice girl jealous & she gets rewarded for that, thanks to feminist Hollywood. A better movie ending would have been him kicking her to the curb & wanting the nice girl to stay out west with him. With Wayne being a conservative, I don't know if he knew that he was settling for a leftist by choosing the hothead. That type of character is exactly who they are, cheat to get their way & act like a baby when they don't.
An example of what I prefer is Once Upon a Time in the West, another spaghetti western this time with Charles Bronson & it's what we need more of, films for men. I'm tired of everything having to include 'badass' female characters. The only movies that come close to this now are made in South Korea, the movies made in Hollywood, Canada, UK & Australia have been corrupted by a DEI agenda.
Hallmark does this with females today, they are bitchy, angry & hate men, but somehow the main man in the movie loves this woman. It's pathetic that was forced on Wayne for so many years & he rarely had a nice woman playing his love interest. Maybe Wayne wanted this in his movies, thinking it was a way to bring in the female audience, but it's sad if that was needed. Women must be a feminist & angry at the world for women to watch, I refuse to believe the majority of women were this bad. To be fair, he did like hotheads in real life as he married them & almost got killed by one (Chata, his 2nd wife, nearly killed him after filming ended for Angel & the Badman in July '46 - surprise, she jumped to conclusions that he was having an affair with his young co-star).
Some of his worst movies based on the ones I've watched have been In Old Oklahoma, Flame of Barbary Coast, Dakota, The Hurricane Express, The Man from Utah & The Barbarian & the Geisha. Apparently The Conqueror is really bad, just haven't seen it yet, not to mention the 91 people who got cancer from that movie, almost like it was done on purpose to get rid of the non-Communists in Hollywood.
Some of the underrated movies that I liked better than others are The Train Robbers (I prefer the older Wayne character who didn't take so much crap from the females), Angel & the Badman, The Wings of Eagles, The Cowboys, Island in the Sky, Texas Cyclone & the Lucky Texan.
