Horror Movies I have Watched
Here is a list of horror movies I have seen, whether I liked or disliked them. I have a pretty unpopular opinion on movies, so don't be surprised if my opinion is different from yours. Anyway, hopefully, you guys will enjoy reading this list as I had making it!
(I honestly have a feeling there are gonna be more disliked movies than liked movies, so brace yourselves!)

- DirectorDeon TaylorStarsNikki ReedKeith DavidBrad DourifA maniac murders teens when they refuse to forward chain mail.Boy oh boy, we're starting off on a doozy here. This is a horror movie about teens who have to forward chain mail they receive or they die. That's about it. The plot and character development is pretty much non-existent, but a kill or two were decent in terms of gore.
Bored me to death, almost broke my phone due to the absolutely atrocious ending. I don't recommend this one under ANY circumstances.
Rated R for strong bloody sadistic violence throughout, language and brief nudity. - DirectorTyler MacIntyreStarsBrianna HildebrandAlexandra ShippJack QuaidA twist on the slasher genre, following two death-obsessed teenage girls who use their online show about real-life tragedies to send their small mid-western town into a frenzy, and cement their legacy as modern horror legends.Just Like Chain Letter, the plot and character development and such are almost non-existent and evil wins in the end. Only this one, the villains are two snobby, death obsession, obnoxious teenagers that can overpower literally anyone.
Please don't watch this if you wanna keep your brain cells.
Rated R for strong bloody horror violence, and language including some sexual references. - DirectorChris PeckoverStarsOlivia DeJongeLevi MillerEd OxenbouldOn a quiet suburban street, a babysitter must defend a twelve-year-old boy from intruders, only to discover it's far from a normal home invasion.I died on the inside, resurrected myself, and then died again when I saw this absolutely atrocious piece of crap. The killer in this one is a freaking 12-year-old tween who turns into some rapist psychopath around the half way point.
No one even tries to stop this kid because why not. When they have countless opportunities to take him down, they don't take advantage.
Spoilers: He wins in the end, with greater ease than the last two entries. This movie is the equivalent to the horrendous E.T. video game.
Rated R for disturbing violent content, language throughout, crude sexual references, drug and alcohol use - all involving teens. - DirectorJerome SableStarsAllie MacDonaldMeat LoafDouglas SmithA snobby musical theater camp is terrorized by a blood-thirsty killer who hates musical theater. This movie is pretty cringy and cheesy at times, but if you don't take it seriously, then you just might find yourself enjoying it like I did.
Rick Miller does a decent job as the killer's voice. Some of the musical numbers are well done, but the kills could've been better in the long run.
Rated R for bloody horror violence, language and some sexual references. - DirectorNeil MarshallStarsDavid HarbourMilla JovovichIan McShaneCaught between the worlds of the supernatural and human, Hellboy battles an ancient sorceress bent on revenge. Why such a high rating of 8 stars you ask? Because I don't take this film nearly as seriously as other people and critics do. In all honesty, I think critics set their expectations wayyy too high for this movie considering it's a remake without Guillermo del Toro.
I enjoyed this one quite a bit because of its ridiculousness and over the top action scenes. So, I guess this movie is like a guilty pleasure movie of sorts for me. Although, the ending was pretty anticlimactic as Hellboy should've fought and killed the demons from Hell instead of just, not doing that.
Rated R for strong bloody violence and gore throughout, and for language. - DirectorJustin DecStarsElizabeth LailJordan CallowayTalitha Eliana BatemanWhen a nurse downloads an app that claims to predict the moment a person will die, it tells her she only has three days to live. With the clock ticking and a figure haunting her, she must find a way to save her life before time runs out.The one thing that bothered me the most about this movie is how it was falsely advertised as a slasher film when it is actually a supernatural film.
However, like Hellboy, critics absolutely hated this film, but it's understandable why. It's ridiculous, all over the place, and had a forced ending. Again, this is more of a guilty pleasure movie, but it's not quite as enjoyable as Hellboy 2019 in my opinion
Rated PG-13 for terror, violence, bloody images, suggestive material, language and thematic elements. - DirectorSam RaimiStarsAlison LohmanJustin LongRuth LivierA loan officer who evicts an old woman from her home finds herself the recipient of a supernatural curse. Desperate, she turns to a seer to try and save her soul, while evil forces work to push her to a breaking point. Here is a good example of "critics give praise because Satanism is automatically scary and clever." No, it really isn't. Satanism/occultism is one of the most overused and cliched horror tropes in existence and yet, critics still somehow find it scary.
This movie was just awful. Like laughably awful. This movie relied solely on cheap jumpscares and surprisingly bloody and gory moments. I'll give it credit for somehow not getting the R rating considering how much blood and gore it has.
Rated PG-13 for sequences of horror violence, terror, disturbing images and language. - DirectorAri AsterStarsToni ColletteMilly ShapiroGabriel ByrneA grieving family is haunted by tragic and disturbing occurrences.I honestly wonder is Ari Aster is like a Satanist or something because both movies he has made are solely based around Satanism (or Paganism as some people like to think) and that's all there really is to them.
I'm gonna get a lot of hate for these, but just because you slap the arthouse label on your movie doesn't automatically mean it has deeper meaning. Who knows though, maybe I'm just stupid for not catching it or everyone else is delusional for seeing something that's not actually there.
Either way, this movie is terrible, no scary or disturbing, just incredibly demonic.
Rated R for horror violence, disturbing images, language, drug use and brief graphic nudity. - DirectorAri AsterStarsFlorence PughJack ReynorVilhelm BlomgrenA couple travels to Northern Europe to visit a rural hometown's fabled Swedish mid-summer festival. What begins as an idyllic retreat quickly devolves into an increasingly violent and bizarre competition at the hands of a pagan cult. Why do movies like this one exist? It literally serves no purpose other than to glorify occultism and extremely unlikable characters. This is Ari Aster's second (yes, SECOND) film and like Hereditary, he slapped the arthouse label on it and critics adored it.
Maybe I should make a terrible movie and claim it's arthouse... Maybe it's get pretty high praises or something... Nah, I'd rather make a movie that's actually watchable and worth my time.
Rated R for disturbing ritualistic violence and grisly images, strong sexual content, graphic nudity, drug use and language. - DirectorTodd Strauss-SchulsonStarsTaissa FarmigaMalin AkermanAdam DevineA young woman grieving the loss of her mother, a famous scream queen from the 1980s, finds herself pulled into the world of her mom's most famous movie. Reunited, the women must fight off the film's maniacal killer. Now this is a PG-13 horror/comedy movie done practically to perfection. Jokes got a laugh out of me, the violence can be brutal for a PG-13, and the movie even had some heartfelt moments.
The actors and actresses involved did a marvelous job in their roles, everything was believable and the whole 80s vibe they went for in the movie was spot on.
I understand that a majority of PG-13 horror movies are panned for being too tame, but if the movie is still scary and well made, a PG-13 rating shouldn't matter.
Rated PG-13 for horror violence, some crude and sexual material, language and drug use. - DirectorWilliam Brent BellStarsJon FosterSamaire ArmstrongFrankie MunizA group of friends decide to play a killer video game based on the legend of the Countess of Blood, Elizabeth BathoryI'll give this one credit for at least trying to make a video game horror movie. But it's honestly pretty bad. Countless cheap jumpscares and a ridiculous plot that makes little sense.
But just like Drag Me to Hell, this one somehow managed to bypass an R rating despite being pretty violent and even bloody.
Rated PG-13 for horror violence, disturbing images, language, brief sexual and drug content. - DirectorTommy WirkolaStarsJeremy RennerGemma ArtertonPeter StormareBrother/sister duo Hansel and Gretel are professional witch-hunters who help innocent villagers. One day they stumble upon a case that could hold the key to their past.Yet another movie absolutely hated by critics, but for good reasons. Plot and story is all over the place and the character development is almost non-existent. However, the main reason I rated it an 8 is for the same reason as Hellboy: over the top action and ridiculousness.
This movie is definitely a guilty pleasure movie. This was also the very first R rated movie I ever watched when I was younger so it holds a special place in my heart.
Rated R for strong fantasy horror violence and gore, brief sexuality/nudity and language. - DirectorJeremy SaulnierStarsAnton YelchinImogen PootsAlia ShawkatA punk rock band is forced to fight for survival after witnessing a murder at a neo-Nazi skinhead bar. This movie was incredibly overhyped. The main reason why I watched this was for Patrick Stewart and Anton Yelchin. Patrick Stewart though wasn't that great of a villain and he had very little actual screen time.
The deaths were lame, the tension buildups led to nothing, and the ending was very unsatisfying. I wouldn't recommend this unless you like slow (and I mean very slow) burners.
Rated R for strong brutal graphic violence, gory images, language and some drug content. - DirectorDavid YaroveskyStarsElizabeth BanksDavid DenmanJackson A. DunnWhat if a child from another world crash-landed on Earth, but instead of becoming a hero to mankind, he proved to be something far more sinister? This movie seemed like it was gonna be an interesting horror film, but then after watching it, it was a huge disappointment. It was just stupid cliched "evil wins with stupid ease" kind of horror movies.
What is it even with critics loving movies that are depressing and nihilistic? Critics can be such downers...
Rated R for horror violence/bloody images, and for language. - DirectorJustin Paul RitterStarsMaria OlsenMaxx MaulionLee PerkinsA somewhat self-aware zombie takes it upon himself to keep the rest of the walking dead at bay.Yet another guilty pleasure movie of mine. There are some decent action scenes and I liked the acting from The Living Corpse and Worthless Murk. Sure, the animation is awful and some of the dialogue is pretty cringy, but if you want something to watch just cause, then I'd recommend this.
Although, every time I watch this movie it kinda feels like an hour and a half long cutscenes from a PS2 game. Making me feel a tad nostalgic...
Rated R for some horror images and violence. - DirectorsBrendan CowlesShane KuhnStarsLeighton MeesterNicholas D'AgostoMelora HardinHorror gets Super Sized when Horny The Clown, the demonic mascot of "Hella-Burger," starts slashing Orange County teenagers with his meat cleaver from Hell. Here is a pretty corny horror/comedy. One of the very first ones I ever watched as a matter of fact.
This movie has some good kills and funny moments. Definitely not one to take seriously to enjoy it the most. Probably a good film to watch drunk or something, idk.
Rated R for strong horror violence and gore, drug use, language and some sexual content. - DirectorSophia TakalStarsImogen PootsAleyse ShannonLily DonoghueA group of female students is stalked by a stranger during their Christmas break. That is until the young sorority pledges discover that the killer is part of an underground college conspiracy.Easily one of the worst movie experiences I've had in a theater. Everything in this movie was awful: the kills, the acting, the "humor" and above all, the message. Women are angels and men are the root of all evil...
This isn't a movie, it's just an overly long YouTube video whose creator really wants to shove their lousy opinion down everyone's throats thinking it's "important" or as people like to say "woke."
Rated PG-13 for violence, terror, thematic content involving sexual assault, language, sexual material and drinking. - DirectorJeff WadlowStarsMichael PeñaMaggie QLucy HaleWhen the owner and operator of a luxurious island invites a collection of guests to live out their most elaborate fantasies in relative seclusion, chaos quickly descends.Out of all the movies I've seen in theaters, this one was definitely the most disappointing. Not the worst, just the most disappointing. This movie almost shouldn't even be called a horror movie because it's not the slightest bit scary.
Michael Pena does his best given the absolute crap of a script he has, but sadly, he couldn't even save this backfire of a Blumhouse horror flick.
Rated PG-13 for violence, terror, drug content, suggestive material and brief strong language. - DirectorDeclan O'BrienStarsKen KirzingerJesse HutchBenjamin HollingsworthA group of hotheaded street racers are on their way to the Road Rally 1000. As they drive through a desolate shortcut on the way to the race, a man starts tracking, teasing and torturing them until the end of the road. This is a movie that exists, I guess. It's the second sequel to a movie I have never actually watched, despite the fact it stars Paul Walker and Steve Zahn. That movie is probably much better than this one.
I mean, for what it's worth, the kills were decent for this kind of flick, but that's about it. It's one of those sequels that's only here to satisfy gorehounds and such.
Rated R for bloody sadistic violence, some strong sexuality/nudity and drug use. - DirectorRuben FleischerStarsJesse EisenbergEmma StoneWoody HarrelsonA shy student trying to reach his family in Ohio, a gun-toting bruiser in search of the last Twinkie and a pair of sisters striving to get to an amusement park join forces in a trek across a zombie-filled America. This was a surprisingly fun movie to watch. Normally horror comedies flop on one end or the other, but this one seems to balance violence and gore with humor fairly well. That and all of the main characters do a pretty good job in this film.
When I had heard they were making a sequel I was pretty ecstatic about it. I'll probably put that one in the space below just so the two films can be back to back.
Rated R for horror violence/gore and language. - DirectorRuben FleischerStarsWoody HarrelsonJesse EisenbergEmma StoneColumbus, Tallahassee, Wichita, and Little Rock move to the American heartland as they face off against evolved zombies, fellow survivors, and the growing pains of the snarky makeshift family.Saw this in theaters with my fiance and we had a blast watching it. The action and the humor were as good as the first movie in my opinion if not better.
Kind of a shame that there's not another sequel but at the same time if there was gonna be one, I have a feeling it would flop pretty badly.
Rated R for bloody violence, language throughout, some drug and sexual content. - DirectorLeigh WhannellStarsElisabeth MossOliver Jackson-CohenHarriet DyerWhen Cecilia's abusive ex takes his own life and leaves her his fortune, she suspects his death was a hoax. As a series of coincidences turn lethal, Cecilia works to prove that she is being hunted by someone nobody can see. This movie was a good movie, not anything incredible or groundbreaking like most are saying, but not terrible either. The tension and buildups were pretty good as well as the acting.
My only complaint would be the ending. It was pretty anticlimactic given how horrible the villain was to the main character and then what happened afterwards seemed predictable.
All in all, still a good movie, but I don't when I'll watch it again if I do.
Rated R for some strong bloody violence, and language. - DirectorAlexandre AjaStarsKaya ScodelarioBarry PepperMorfydd ClarkGigantic alligators swarm around a young woman and her father as floodwaters engulf their home. This movie had potential, but kinda fell flat to an extent. The suspenseful moments were good, but there weren't very many action scenes like the trailer had shown.
Although, I should've known the trailer was gonna mislead, seems to be their sole purpose nowadays. But hey, at least Kaya Scodelario did a pretty good job in this movie.
Rated R for bloody creature violence, and brief language. - DirectorJordan PeeleStarsLupita Nyong'oWinston DukeElisabeth MossIn order to get away from their busy lives, the Wilson family takes a vacation to Santa Cruz, California. At night, four strangers break into Adelaide's childhood home. The family is shocked to find out that the intruders look like them. This was a fantastic movie to watch in the theaters. Seen with my fiance as well, we had a blast with it. Effective jumpscares and a great atmosphere to set the movie's tone. It was wonderful!
Now the action scenes could've been a tad better for me personally, but that's quite a nitpick.
Rated R for violence/terror and language. - DirectorMarjane SatrapiStarsRyan ReynoldsGemma ArtertonAnna KendrickA likable guy pursues his office crush with help from his evil talking pets, but things turn sinister when she stands him up for a date.I watched this movie on a streaming service mainly because I absolutely love Ryan Reynolds in pretty much any movie, including this one.
Although, this movie definitely shouldn't be filed as a horror movie, since it isn't scary, like, at all. However, it did kinda work more as a dark comedy.
Rated R for bloody violence, and for language including sexual references.
