My Recommendations
These films are arranged in no particular order. My ratings and comments can be seen right under each title. I have watched hundreds of films throughout my life, and here I recommend you the films I have enjoyed the most. All the movies here I rated 7/10 and higher. Any movie that I rate 7 and above is a great movie that I think should be on everyone's watch-list. Only excellent flawless films get a 10/10 score. a 7/10 score is not a bad score by any means, as I have to clarify that on my rating scale a 5/10 is the average score for the average film, making a 7/10 movie not only an above average title, but also one that qualifies to be a classic in its genre.
I take into consideration many factors when rating a film. Everything from the plot to the screenplay and the artistry involved in filming the scenes. I also take into consideration the cultural significance, originality and the influence it had on cinema and the motion pictures industry overall. I do not have to divulge that my own personal preferences seep into my ratings as it goes without saying. Although I try to be as objective as I can be, one can make the argument that art critique can never be 100% objective. You must also keep in mind that after all, this list is not the work of a professional film critic, I happen to be what one would call an amateur.
I suggest utilizing the refine button to make the process of finding the best movie for your movie night easier.

- DirectorsClyde BruckmanBuster KeatonStarsBuster KeatonMarion MackGlen CavenderAfter being rejected by the Confederate military, not realizing it was due to his crucial civilian role, an engineer must single-handedly recapture his beloved locomotive after it is seized by Union spies and return it through enemy lines.Everyone should be familiar with Buster Keaton's work. He did his own stunts and he did them well. A genius of physical comedy and one of the most important figures in the silent era, and perhaps cinema history.
The general is one of Keaton's best films. It is the most expensive film Keaton ever made and it shows, it is often said that the train crash scene in it is the most expensive stunt in the silent era. The movie was a financial disaster, but today it is considered a classic.
10/10 - DirectorFrancis Ford CoppolaStarsMarlon BrandoAl PacinoJames CaanThe aging patriarch of an organized crime dynasty transfers control of his clandestine empire to his reluctant son.Coppola's magnum opus did not get its reputation for nothing. This movie definitely deserves its reputation and place in the history of cinema.
10/10 - DirectorCharles ChaplinStarsCharles ChaplinPaulette GoddardHenry BergmanThe Tramp struggles to live in modern industrial society with the help of a young homeless woman.Everyone is familiar with Chaplin's name, face and attire. Few actually decide to watch his movies. Chaplin was a star in the silent era and beyond. Modern Times competed with talkies, as audio was introduced in cinema in the late 20s and talkies became popular in the 30s. Modern Times stands today as one of Chaplin's best films and one of the greatest movies in the decade it was released in.
10/10 - DirectorGeorge LucasStarsMark HamillHarrison FordCarrie FisherLuke Skywalker joins forces with a Jedi Knight, a cocky pilot, a Wookiee and two droids to save the galaxy from the Empire's world-destroying battle station, while also attempting to rescue Princess Leia from the mysterious Darth Vader. The first Star Wars film was a major success not only for the Star Wars franchise but also for Sci-fi in general. Sci-fi was declining in popularity, perhaps due to the lack of investors willing to put in such a high budget for these movies. Star Wars did not only revive Sci-fi as a genre, but it also helped in reviving other franchises. This applies to Star Trek, a return to TV was planned but due to the massive success of the Star Wars film, Star Trek produced its first film. This movie is not only significant in the history of cinema, it is also culturally significant, and it remains a pop-culture phenomenon to this day.
10/10 - DirectorDavid LynchStarsAnthony HopkinsJohn HurtAnne BancroftA Victorian surgeon rescues a heavily disfigured man who is mistreated while scraping a living as a side-show freak. Behind his monstrous façade, there is revealed a person of kindness, intelligence and sophistication. My favorite David Lynch film. Watching this film should be a priority to anyone. Nothing portrays the difficulties of life for someone living with a deformity as much as this film in my opinion. Anthony Hopkins and John Hurt's performances were one of the best I have ever seen.
10/10 - DirectorD.W. GriffithStarsLillian GishRobert HarronMae MarshFour historical tales depict the ongoing human struggle against prejudice and inhumanity.DW Griffith was one of the best directors of the silent era. I have never seen a silent film shot so perfectly. Intolerance had a profound influence on film making, especially in Europe. Many cite Griffith as an influence. It is full of unforgettable breathtaking scenes. I still can't believe that this films was released in 1916. Compared to movies in that era, Griffith's works shine.
10/10 - DirectorStanley KubrickStarsKeir DulleaGary LockwoodWilliam SylvesterWhen a mysterious artifact is uncovered on the Moon, a spacecraft manned by two humans and one supercomputer is sent to Jupiter to find its origins. No list would be complete without this movie. This movie remains special to this day for several reasons. One of them is the artistry in filming the scenes, which doesn't need any explanation as it can be easily seen. It is almost unbelievable that this movie was released in 1968! No wonder some conspiracy theorists claim that the moon landing was filmed by Kubrick! The second reason is the incredible attention to details. I am sure Kubrick consulted a few scientists before working on this projects. This can be clearly seen in the design of some spaceships where artificial gravity by centrifugal forces was considered in designing the ones that appeared in this film. The third reason is touching on subjects that were not relevant in the 60s, but today, every single scene has a message for us. As if Kubrick, Clarke and their team were time travelers! One of these subjects is artificial intelligence. Something that we are seeing all over the news today. Every scene in this movie is significant, and every scene was well researched.

- DirectorStanley KubrickStarsJack NicholsonShelley DuvallDanny LloydA family heads to an isolated hotel for the winter, where a sinister presence influences the father into violence. At the same time, his psychic son sees horrifying forebodings from both the past and the future.Kubrick's name is one of those names that first come into your mind when you think about the greatest filmmakers of all-time. One of his greatest works is The Shining. A story written by Stephen King, with a screen play by Kubrick. The movie is full of perfect shots and mystery. Nicholson and Duvall's acting here is beyond superb. The movie is a legend in the Psychological Horror genre. It is full of unforgettable scenes. It's the kind of movie that will leave you with more questions than answers.
10/10 - DirectorBilly WilderStarsJack LemmonShirley MacLaineFred MacMurrayA Manhattan insurance clerk tries to rise in his company by letting its executives use his apartment for trysts, but office politics and his own romantic hopes complicate matters. One of Billy Wilder and Jack Lemmon's greatest films. In my opinion, Billy Wilder is the master of the Romantic Comedy genre. This movie is funny and brilliant. It has the blueprint to creating the perfect comedy film.
10/10 - DirectorQuentin TarantinoStarsJohn TravoltaUma ThurmanSamuel L. JacksonThe lives of two mob hitmen, a boxer, a gangster and his wife, and a pair of diner bandits intertwine in four tales of violence and redemption. It is considered Tarantino's magnum opus.
