When it comes to awards and appraisals, there are some films that clean up every year. Because of all the hype that's directed to these superstar blockbusters, it becomes far too easy for a quality movie to fall through the cracks - sometimes even with a star-studded cast and reputable director behind it.

Over the years, there have been hundreds of brilliantly directed, perfectly acted, and wonderfully written stories most people never saw. That's unfortunate considering the artistry and effort that goes into making a movie, but with such a wide variety of films on offer, every year it's only natural certain movies would get lost in the fray. This list (in random order) focuses on those hidden gems that didn’t hit big when they were initially released. These range from little-seen horror movies to splashy, star-driven vehicles that for one reason or another didn’t find their audience. Some are sleeper hits from the last half of the century, while others are older classics you may not have seen unless you're a real cinephile - films that never quite crept into the mainstream and deserve a far larger audience.
