- DirectorJonny CampbellStarsMatt SmithKaren GillanTony CurranThe Doctor and Amy travel back in time to meet Vincent Van Gogh and face an invisible monster that only the painter can see.A brilliant story. The villain metaphorically represents something new. The acting is excellent, the direction is great and the whole plot is emotionally powerful.
- DirectorAdam SmithStarsMatt SmithKaren GillanArthur DarvillWith his TARDIS in ruins, the newly-regenerated Doctor with the help of Amy Pond must save the world in less than twenty minutes from galactic policemen known as the Atraxi.Brilliant post-regeneration story. The Doctor is so well handled and introduced, as is Amy. The villain is great, as is the dialogue, the direction and the pacing. Overall, a fantastic story.
- DirectorCatherine MorsheadStarsMatt SmithKaren GillanArthur DarvillFive years after finally leaving the TARDIS, Amy and Rory, now married, live in the quiet little village of Leadworth; but everything is not what it would seem.A really interesting episode. The acting is great, the dialogue is engaging and the pacing is brilliant. The villain is unique, however the plot does feel like it fits in weirdly.
- DirectorNick HurranStarsMatt SmithKaren GillanArthur DarvillThe Doctor, Amy and Rory become trapped in a hotel of horrors unable to escape and unable to find the TARDIS. The Doctor must save as many people as he can taking many twists and seeing his own worst fear.I really like how this episode plays on belief and fear. The direction is excellent. The dialogue is mixed, however the pacing and horror elements are really well handled. The character moments are all very satisfying and the plot is very good.
- DirectorNick HurranStarsMatt SmithKaren GillanArthur DarvillAfter Rory has an encounter with a weeping angel, the doctor and Amy travel to 1930's New York to save him, but they soon discover that the weeping angels have taken over Manhattan, and soon, maybe, the world.A really solid farewell. The acting is all terrific, the directing is great and the episode has great pacing. The story is really tense and uses horror effectively. The plot is well written and the character wrap-ups are great.
- DirectorNick HurranStarsMatt SmithDavid TennantJohn HurtIn 2013, something terrible is awakening in London's National Gallery; in 1562, a murderous plot is afoot in Elizabethan England; and somewhere in space an ancient battle reaches its devastating conclusion. It did a really good job at showing the War Doctor in just one episode. Seeing Tennant, Smith and Hurt interact is golden and the dialogue is brilliant. The visuals, camerawork and acting are all great and there are so many references to keep us geeking out. It's well paced, exciting and above all else surprisingly deep and filled with emotion and heart. It lacks some fluidity due to it trying to do so much, but I don't care. This is one hell of an experience and I love this episode.
- DirectorToby HaynesStarsMatt SmithKaren GillanAlex KingstonThe Pandorica opened, silence fell, and now planet Earth is left alone in the universe. Jumping through time, the doctor must figure out a way to bring back those who never were and save his friends from the collapse of reality.A very different finale. The characters are very well handled, performances are great and the direction is great. The pacing is good, however certain elements are rushed. The ending is very differently and satisfyingly handled.
- DirectorSaul MetzsteinStarsMatt SmithKaren GillanArthur DarvillThe Doctor gets a Stetson (and a gun), and finds himself the reluctant Sheriff of a Western town under siege by a relentless cyborg who goes by the name of The Gunslinger. But who is he and what does he want? The production value and direction are great and overall you can tell a lot of effort went into this one. The acting is great and all of the characters (minus Rory) are given something cool to do. At times it is hard to take seriously, however the way it explores revenge and anger in an interesting way, makes it feel completely fresh as well.
- DirectorToby HaynesJulian SimpsonStarsMatt SmithKaren GillanArthur DarvillThe Doctor and his allies mount a rebellion against invaders who have been controlling humanity from the very beginning.Solid opener. The Silents are a great villain. The plotting and pacing are really good, except for a time jump between the two parts. It's hindered by it's lack of answers, that are given in the finale, so overall it feels incomplete. The episode sort of functions fine on it's own. The direction, writing and acting are all still great though.
- DirectorDouglas MackinnonStarsMatt SmithJenna ColemanLiam CunninghamThe Doctor and Clara find themselves on a Russian submarine that is falling to the bottom of the ocean because of an attack by a rogue Martian warrior that's still on board.Really solid story. The direction is great and a constant suspense is kept. The dialogue and characters are great and the production design is stellar. Some parts are dumb and maybe it lacks some depth, but it passes through that by being interesting and engaging all the way through, reintroducing the Ice Warriors brilliantly.
- DirectorToby HaynesStarsMatt SmithKaren GillanArthur DarvillFestive edition of the time-travelling drama. The Doctor has one hour to save a crashing spaceship and a miser's soul - but what lurks in the fog?Probably the most christmas-y special. The the concepts and themes of the story are certainly engaging. The first half is quite average and some of the dialogue isn't great, but the direction and acting is all solid. Overall it still has a lot of heart, which pays off.
- DirectorRichard ClarkStarsMatt SmithKaren GillanArthur DarvillThe Doctor is lured to a sentient asteroid outside of the Universe by a Time Lord distress signal and soon realises his TARDIS is in grave danger. The direction, acting and editing are good. The characters are given a lot to do and the pacing is good. The plot is dumb, but really unique. It's certainly worthwhile, however the strangeness of the dialogue may though people off, despite the quality.
- DirectorAdam SmithStarsMatt SmithKaren GillanAlex KingstonThe Doctor, Amy, Dr. Song and the remaining soldiers manage to escape from the crashed ship and into the forest. The Angels attempt to create a rift in time and space such as the Doctor had found in Amy's room when they first met. Amy meanwhile is counting down from 10 minutes and the Doctor has determined that an Angel has taken over her mind. The Angels, yet again, are a great villain. The characters are all well handled, however the pacing of part 2 goes far too clunky, with little focus. The idea of Angles in an image is dumb as well, however this still makes for a great story. Also I hate how you can see these things move.
- DirectorAndrew GunnEuros LynStarsMatt SmithKaren GillanSophie OkonedoThe Doctor takes Amy to the future inside Starship UK, which contains in addition to British explorers, an intimidating race known as the Smilers. The writing is great and full of heart, however the pacing drags early on. The direction is great, the dialogue is interesting and the plot is unique. The characters are all great, however some plot threads feel unnecessary. Overall, a solid story.
- DirectorJamie PayneStarsMatt SmithJenna ColemanOrla BradyThe Doctor's worst enemies, The Daleks, The Cybermen, The Angels and The Silence, return, as the doctor's eleventh life comes to a close, and his twelfth life begins.Matt Smith's performance carries the entire story. His regeneration speech is brilliant and seeing how his character changes throughout the story is excellent. Some of the humor is really good as well, and all of the direction and music is great. I like the pay offs with Gallifrey and regeneration, although the Silents twist is odd. I didn't care for the church stuff and I didn't really like the first act. Some design and story choices are really weird and have mixed success. Overall, it says goodbye to Eleven well, however stumbles on it's way.
- DirectorCatherine MorsheadStarsMatt SmithKaren GillanJames CordenAfter the TARDIS teleports without him, the doctor tries to find out what is stopping it from landing and traces it to a seemingly ordinary, two storey house. This well written, humerous story is pretty good, however the whole story is lacking in too much depth and doesn't exhibit and excellent storytelling.
- DirectorJonny CampbellStarsMatt SmithKaren GillanArthur DarvillThe Doctor and Amy cross swords in more ways than one with a horde of blood-sucking vampires in 16th century Venice. The Doctor is treated weirdly in this story. The dialogue is great, but at the expense of it's characters. The direction is great and the plot is well told, however the ending feels rushed.
- DirectorNick HurranStarsMatt SmithKaren GillanArthur DarvillAmy is trapped in a quarantine facility where time moves faster than in reality, while the Doctor is confined to the TARDIS. Can Rory save his wife in time? The episode gives Amy and Rory really interesting stuff to do, but the cinematography is awful and the episode is overlong. The dialogue and character moments are excellent and the questionable moments are engaging, so overall it's pretty good.
- DirectorJamie PayneStarsMatt SmithJenna ColemanDougray ScottThe Doctor and Clara arrive at a supposedly haunted mansion where they find a ghost hunter and a psychic who are on the search for a legendary ghost known as 'the witch of the well'The direction and production value are good. The characters are very under developed, however the dynamics they're given work well enough. The dialogue is good, the villain is creepy and the whole plot feels relatively fresh.
- DirectorAshley WayStarsMatt SmithKaren GillanArthur DarvillThe Silurians are awake, angry, and preparing for war - a war that could decide who gets to live on Earth, the Silurians or the humans. The silurians come back in a great way, with some great production design and direction. There's good acting and editing, however the plot feels very disjointed and cluttered.
- 2005–202247mTV-PG7.4 (6.1K)TV EpisodeDirectorMat KingStarsMatt SmithJenna ColemanAshley WaltersAfter the TARDIS is caught accidentally by an outer space trash collector, Clara is trapped deep inside of it where she finds herself on a journey through the doctor's past and her future. The direction and cinematography are brilliant. Some of the performances are great and the production design is excellent. The script is odd. Some of the characters are built out of necessity and not emotion. A lot of the beats are designed to be confusing, so a lack of explanation hinders a huge amount of this. I don't like how this story is resolved and some parts of the aesthetic are poorly designed.
- DirectorSaul MetzsteinStarsMatt SmithJenna ColemanTom WardLondon, 1892. Snow is evolving, turning into icy monstrosities, but this is no concern for the Doctor who has given up trying to save the universe, leaving it to a clever young governess named Clara to save the day. This special, feels over long. The acting is all great, the directing id good and the production design is solid. The plot is incredibly flimsy though, with some really bad pacing. The paternoster gang are completely pointless and some of the humour is really bad. I like the character choices, minus some really dumb moments, but overall it was fine.
- DirectorRichard ClarkStarsMatt SmithKaren GillanArthur DarvillReceiving a powerful distress call from a terrified little boy, the Doctor and his friends soon find that the monsters in his cupboard are real - and deadly.Alright. The story certainly lacks some key character and story based beats. Rory and Amy feel tacked on and some twists don't work. The direction is still good and there's some charm to the story, but nothing sticks out.
- DirectorStephen WoolfendenStarsMatt SmithJenna ColemanEve De Leon AllenThe Doctor takes Clara and the children she babysits to a rundown amusement park in space where Cybermen are hiding, and ready to invade the most precious place in the universe, The Doctor's mind. The acting is good and the cinematography is great, but the direction is poor. Some of the characters moments are fun, but they are poorly written, to the point where I don't care. I don't like the addition of the children, or the weird Cyber leader. It just feels very generic.
- DirectorNick HurranStarsMatt SmithKaren GillanArthur DarvillAmy, Rory and the Doctor are reunited when they are kidnapped by the Daleks, who send them on a mission to destroy the most horrifying place in the universe- the asylum of the Daleks. This story has a good idea, that's ruined by it's script. The Daleks would never have an asylum and they absolutely would kill each other. Loads of plot elements are full of plot holes and poorly thought out. This is a shame, because the dialogue, directing and acting are all great, it's just the script that lets it down.
- DirectorRichard SeniorStarsMatt SmithKaren GillanArthur DarvillThe search for Melody Pond brings the Doctor and his friends to Berlin in 1938, face-to-face with Adolf Hitler, River Song and a justice-serving, shapeshifting robot. The writing is very dumb and often comes across as overly convenient. A lot of the plot threads are bizarre and the treatment of The Doctor is weird. The dialogue and production design are still fresh and it still is quite enjoyable though.
- DirectorJulian SimpsonStarsMatt SmithKaren GillanArthur DarvillThe gangers and humans battle for their lives as the factory crumbles and the Doctor tries to keep the peace - can everyone make it off the island alive? The plot is interesting, but it gets tiring quickly. The character beats and interactions are interesting, but pacing sinks a lot of the episode and the dialogue can be quite weak at some points. Nothing really happens and nothing is really memorable.
- DirectorSaul MetzsteinStarsMatt SmithJenna ColemanAlex KingstonThe Doctor's friends are being kidnapped, which leads him to the fields of Trenzalore, where his greatest secret will be revealed and Clara's mystery will be solved.Overfilled with characters and plot threads. Barely any of the characters present are really needed here, although some character moments are brilliant. Tension is kept throughout and the eerie direction adds to that. The pacing drags at the start, however it slowly builds to a cluster of exposition, that badly pays off. There are huge number of plot holes here and it all seems very lacking in conclusion.
- DirectorJeremy WebbJulian SimpsonStarsMatt SmithKaren GillanArthur DarvillThe Doctor, Amy and Rory find themselves aboard a marooned pirate ship whose crew is being picked off one by one by a beautiful - and deadly - Siren. The production design is good, but the characters are over the top and the plot is serviceable. The villain is dumb, the characters haven't got much to do, but the dialogue is good, so overall, it's really dumb, but I'll give it a pass.
- DirectorPeter HoarStarsMatt SmithKaren GillanArthur DarvillA member of The Doctor's team has been abducted and he will call in every favor and maybe even go to war to get them back.Messy. The character moments are cool and all, but I wasn't very invested in this one. Most of the episode is rushed and the dialogue is flimsy. Some of the additions are cool and the direction and production value are solid, but I was never invested in this one.
- DirectorSaul MetzsteinStarsMatt SmithKaren GillanArthur DarvillThe doctor gathers some of his old friends to help him investigate an unmanned spaceship on a crash course to earth that when it collides, will destroy it, they soon discover the ship's precious and dangerous cargo- dinosaurs. What? This story is such a cluttered mess. Every character is incredibly one note and I really didn't care for any of them. The production design is fine, as is the direction and all the acting is good. The plot is really predictable and the the pacing is lacking, so overall I just didn't care for this one.
- 2005–202259mTV-PG7.1 (6.5K)TV EpisodeDirectorFarren BlackburnStarsMatt SmithKaren GillanArthur DarvillOn Christmas Eve 1941, the Doctor poses as a caretaker to give recently widowed Madge Arwell and her two children an unforgettable Christmas but things quickly get out of hand when her son Cyril enters a snowy forest world full of dangers.Really messy. The plot is all over the place and tone deaf. The children are very one note and most elements are skipped over. I like how this story tries to deal with grief, but it spends no time on it. The production design is ugly and the messages just don't land.
- DirectorFarren BlackburnStarsMatt SmithJenna ColemanMichael DixonThe doctor takes Clara to the rings of Akhaten, A partly destroyed planet, where a religious ceremony is about to be carried out, but a darkness is stirring, a hungry darkness that could consume the rings of Akhaten and the universe.I get where they were going with this one. The production design and direction are good and Matt Smith gives an amazing speech, but the story is weak. The themes are poorly explored and the child acting doesn't sell it. The effects are poor and again the pacing sucks.
- DirectorJeremy WebbStarsMatt SmithKaren GillanArthur DarvillApril 22nd, 2011; 5:02pm. Having finally accepted his fate the Doctor travels to Lake Silencio for his final day. But one woman refuses to let time take its course.A complete mess. so much of the plot makes no sense or is told in the most convoluted way possible or has it's answers revealed much later. The dialogue sucks and most of the characters have pointless roles. At least the acting cinematography and music are good. What were they thinking?
- DirectorColm McCarthyStarsMatt SmithJenna ColemanManpreet BachuThe doctor finds Clara in present day, where they work together to solve the mystery of people disappearing which as it turns out, has a sinister link to WiFi.The plot makes barely any sense and little about it is explained. I like the interactions between 11 and Clara, however this Action Hero approach doesn't work and most of the episode is resolved on deus ex machinas and relies on building questions.
- DirectorDouglas MackinnonStarsMatt SmithKaren GillanArthur DarvillEarth is suddenly visited by millions of small black cubes of unknown origin. The Doctor joins Amy, Rory and Rory's father, Brian, to help discover what these cubes bring for humanity. This story is so slow paced for the first two acts. Kate Stewart is a pointless addition and the direction is bland. The thrid act is terribly rushed, contains an awful villain and is needlessly cluttered, until a deus ex machina saves the day. What an unsubtle, bland waste.
- DirectorAndrew GunnStarsMatt SmithKaren GillanIan McNeiceThe TARDIS takes The Doctor and Amy to war-torn Britain in the middle of World War Two. Not only do they meet Winston Churchill himself, but the Doctor comes face to face once again with his greatest enemy of all.Waste of time. The new Daleks look like stupid toys. The story mishandles the Doctor's relationship with the Daleks. The ending feels forced and the whole story feels rushed and meaningless.
- DirectorSteve HughesStarsMatt SmithKaren GillanArthur DarvillThe Doctor makes one last stop before his death to see an old friend. But people are disappearing, there are reports of a silver rat and metal men are lurking in the shadows. Why? This episode is slowly paced and has pretty bad dialogue. The deus ex machina, love-defeats-all ending is really dumb. The cybermen are poorly treated and the whole thing is just pointless.
- DirectorSaul MetzsteinStarsMatt SmithJenna ColemanDiana RiggWhen they find a picture of the Doctor in a recently dead man's eye, it's up to Madame Vastra, Jenny and Strax to save The Doctor and find out what sinister secrets are going on at Sweetsville, Yorkshire.I don't know who asked for an episode focused on the Paternoster gang, but it's a mess. I don't think any of the characters are interesting. I think the pacing is terrible and the plot sucks. Overall, it's just a waste of time.
