Bottom 20 Worst Films of 2021
A new year and it feels weird to not have at least one really bad January movie. But this pandemic really put a stop to everything. So it makes it hard to make any anticipated list. Or least anticipated list. But here it is and I already have a couple of contenders for worst films.

- DirectorAnna Elizabeth JamesStarsKristin DavisDermot MulroneyGreer GrammerAfter a bestselling novelist suffering from writer's block hires a new nanny for her children, the line between fiction and reality starts to blur.My sister put this on and said this is a pretty good movie. I almost kicked her out. The reason why I didn’t is because we do have to pay rent and I need help. The pandemic ain’t helping. O wait the movie yeah. Netflix has been giving the two of us tho a lot of entertainment to make fun stupid stuff like this. Because her and I had such a good time. The movie is beyond garbage.
1/10 - DirectorDan MazerStarsEllie KemperRob DelaneyArchie YatesA married couple tries to steal back a valuable heirloom from a troublesome kid.Damn Disney+ has released a worst movie than Netflix. This isn’t even a movie about the kid on the poster. Hell 20 minutes into the movie and we have seen more of the supporting characters more than the actual kid who has been left home alone. All Home Alone sequels even Lost in New York have never reached the greatness of what happened in the OG Home Alone. The kid here who was good enough in Jojo Rabbit is just so damn annoying and a pure menace. People like to make fun of Kevin by say he grew up to be Jigsaw. But this kid here is going to grow up to be another Kevin. We Need to Talk About the future Kevin this kid is going to grow up to be. This is honestly an embarrassment to watch to see them just even reference the OG. It just fails on all accounts to even be remotely funny. Plus this movie could be over in 10 minutes if these characters just had some balls to actually just grab the jacket. I mean it was right there. I usually don’t get upset over the lack of common sense in movies because well it is a movie. But this frustratingly got on my nerves. On paper the idea of flipping the perspective of a Home Alone movie from the kid to the burglars is a fine idea. But only if those crooks were actually crooks. So it doesn’t come off as mean spirited to see these people who are down on there luck be punished for just trying to get by. Worst of all it is just not funny. I seriously don’t even know what was going through some of these characters head throughout the whole movie. And it is not a place I want to be.
1/10 - DirectorBen FalconeStarsMelissa McCarthyOctavia SpencerJason BatemanIn a world where supervillains are commonplace, two estranged childhood best friends reunite after one devises a treatment that gives them powers to protect their city. It’s not worst than Deadly Illusions but man this was super close. Both wildly different films that failed so hard at being what it tried to be. Both are just boring slocks (don’t even know if that is a word) but it is so boring it requires a new word. Because it is just there and it moves at a snails pace and the humor it tries to do makes this movie feel even longer than what it is supposed to be.
1/10 - DirectorVince MarcelloStarsJoey KingJoel CourtneyJacob ElordiIt's the summer before Elle Evans is set to head off to college, and she has a big decision to make.It just never ends. Well now it did end. Glad it is under 2 hours but damn every minute feels like 3 minutes. Honestly really the only reason why it is not a 1 and I give it a 2 is because the ending. The fact that the king and Nate Jacobs don’t end up together is a pretty good ending. But damn I have no room to say anything about relationships or anything like that but holy crap, Lee and Rachel are the worst couple in the world.
2/10 - DirectorMark RasoStarsGina RodriguezAriana GreenblattLucius HoyosAfter a devastating global event wiped out all electronics and eliminated people's ability to sleep, a former soldier may have found a solution with her daughter.Actually as a metaphor of religion and reborn it is still uninteresting. Some cool shots and camera tricks tho I might add and some scenes transitions did make this somewhat enjoyable. And the idea of not being able to sleep is like a well we made a movie where you can’t see what about a movie where you can’t sleep. Brilliant. But holy crap is this movie bad. From both acting and writing this movie is terrible. Some of this is inexcusable how bad this movie got. Even with an explosive third act with some of the craziest stuff humans can do it still can’t save how dumb this movie got. Netflix as a whole will make some of the worst movies of the year but every time they put just one movie out a week I have this feeling I need to watch it. I think it is because one it is right there, it is technically free, and I know not to take it all that seriously so I don’t need a setting that requires that type of feeling when watching a movie. The shows tho do range from binge material to just having on in the background.
2/10 - DirectorPatrick HughesStarsRyan ReynoldsSamuel L. JacksonSalma HayekThe bodyguard, Michael Bryce, continues his friendship with assassin, Darius Kincaid, as they try to save Darius' wife Sonia.Wow I didn’t expect to dislike this movie as much I did. I don’t even like Ryan Reynolds in this movie with every other line being I’m on sabbatical. It is Bruce Willis I’m on vacation all over again. Salma and Sam are also just as annoying here trying their hardest to be this chaotic couple that I really just wanted to be killed by the end of the movie. You see tho that was the charm of the first movie where Samuel L. Jackson was this unlikeable machine that just wouldn’t quit. Ryan on the other hand bounced off each other really well. And that first movie at least put together a good enough reason to pin the two of them against each other. This movie just feels so slapped dash put together that it was so noticeable how lazy this movie was going to be from the start. This movie kinda sets up the idea of a third movie and I really hope we don’t get that third movie if it is anything like this. I’m so glad that American version of The Raid was canceled because if this was the guy who was going to do it I know it would end up terrible.
2/10 - DirectorTanya WexlerStarsKate BeckinsaleJai CourtneyStanley TucciA bouncer with a slightly murderous anger-management problem that she controls with the help of an electrode-lined vest she uses to shock herself back to normalcy whenever she gets homicidal. If you don’t see a body well then you already know the twist coming. From that point on the movie just got more annoying and irritating watching Kate Beckinsale be this antihero kinda. But I’ll give the movie this, they weren’t afraid to make her unlikeable. Which I kinda wish more of these female action star movies tried more of. I mean in The Suicide Squad Harley Quinn is still trying to be this lovable goofball that is a naive individual until she needs to go into God mode. Here Kate is fierce and some of her jokes land better than any of the three movies Harley Quinn has been in. Back to the movie tho it still is a dumpster fire of the highest order. From acting, writing, to even the damn set design looks like it was done in front a dam green screen. The illusion of the movie making you believe this could take place in the real world is gone. It is just so damn ugly to look at. And the editing doesn’t make the situation even better because in the fight scenes, if you can call them fight scenes, they do these slow motion sequences that is not clever you makes it even look cool. It adds no suspense or create anything other than plain boredom. The attempt of comedy that is in the film falls flat as well but I can see Cate Beckinsale at least trying so I can some points for that reason.
2/10 - DirectorJohannes RobertsStarsKaya ScodelarioRobbie AmellHannah John-KamenSet in 1998, this origin story explores the secrets of the mysterious Spencer Mansion and the ill-fated Raccoon City.
- DirectorLisa JoyStarsHugh JackmanRebecca FergusonThandiwe NewtonNick Bannister, a private investigator of the mind, navigates the alluring world of the past when his life is changed by new client Mae. A simple case becomes an obsession after she disappears and he fights to learn the truth about her.I have been thinking real hard about to say something I like about this movie. Logan is fine and Rebecca Ferguson is extremely under appreciated picking these roles that don’t really do much with her. Honestly I don’t even remember liking anything about this movie because I saw everything coming from a mile away. I knew the minute that rich ass white family showed up I knew they had something to do with it. And guess what they did. Even the action sequences weren’t done with enough style to make it more appealing. So initially I was rating this movie at a 4 but now I will drop it down to a 2.
2/10 - DirectorGorô MiyazakiStarsTaylor HendersonJazmín AbuínJB BlancAn orphan girl, Earwig, is adopted by a witch and comes home to a spooky house filled with mystery and magic.I’m inspired to actually not be so negative so instead of just bagging on this movie which it is bad here some other movies you should watch instead of this one. Sabrina at least the first season is a good witch story, My Life as a Zucchini is a way better film dealing with orphans and being wanted, o yeah any other studio Ghilbi film will do as well. It is just boring and uninspiring to make the audience feel or do anything after watching this film. Only saving Grace is Dan Stevens as the cat he kills it and he is also adorable.
4/10 - DirectorRandall EmmettStarsEmile HirschMegan FoxBruce WillisAn FBI agent and Florida State officer team up to investigate a string of unsolved murder cases.
- DirectorDasha NekrasovaStarsMadeline QuinnBetsey BrownStephen GurewitzTwo roommates' lives are upended after finding out that their new Manhattan apartment harbors a dark secret.
- DirectorDoug LimanStarsTom HollandDaisy RidleyDemián BichirTwo unlikely companions embark on a perilous adventure through the badlands of an unexplored planet as they try to escape a dangerous and disorienting reality where all thoughts are seen and heard by everyone.
- DirectorTim StoryStarsChloë Grace MoretzMichael PeñaColin JostA chaotic battle ensues between Jerry Mouse, who has taken refuge in the Royal Gate Hotel, and Tom Cat, who is hired to drive him away before the day of a big wedding arrives.Like it’s okay. Nothing to rave about but it is terribly boring. Honestly, I’m fine with over the top performances because you have Pena and Jong going so over the top with their voices it makes it somewhat enjoyable. It is just their lines are terrible. Which goes to the other performances from the humans are just so bland and uninteresting. One last thought on the humans Chloe-Grace had a great performance earlier this year with Shadow in the Cloud, and I really think she is underrated but I’m being honest she seems so bored. And her line reading just comes off lazy. Now onto Tom and Jerry. This hybrid of CG and live action isn’t terrible but it just comes off visually uninspiring to deliver any laughs. Because it is just the animals that are animated nothing else is so it leaves you to avert your eyes to the same animals who have been watching the whole entire movie . Even seeing them interact with live action actors never comes off authentic. Like it feels either overly directed with Tim Story the director, directing his actors to interact which is essentially a tennis ball but again it is not convincing at all that they are interacting with a CG creature. But Chloe-Grace looks amazing in the movie so I give it a 3.
3/10 - DirectorAntoine FuquaStarsMark WahlbergChiwetel EjioforSophie CooksonA man discovers that his hallucinations are actually visions from past lives. What the hell did I just watch? Netflix ain’t the only streaming service that can deliver some truly god awful movies. Paramount+ had Sponge on the Run be their first movie and that was bad but this is so much worst. The main big problem with this Mortal Kombat, Kingsman, and The Old Guard is that Mark Wahlberg is terribly missed cast. It makes sense why you would get someone like Mark Wahlberg to play the lead but gosh darn is he just terrible.
Also kinda spoiler so the whole point of the movie is that when these infinite die they just don’t die and move on. It is like a reset button and then they jump into another body. So what is the coincidence that the new body that Marky Mark gets into doesn’t remember a damn thing. Like again it is the whole you were born with it and you are not living up to your fullest potential. It’s the same damn thing we have seen over and over again. It is also weird that some of the big action sequences in the beginning do not have Mark Wahlberg in them. Yes he is in the big action set piece at the end, but you look at his other movies and he is actually in the action. Here I don’t know he looked pretty lazy and tired just being here. Even some of the supporting cast, with one exception, doesn’t look like they are having fun at all. Chiwetel Ejiofor is holy crap, I mean I have seen over the top performances done by professional actors but holy crap is this taking the cake. Like he is through and through your typical bad guy and he is making sure you know he is playing the bad guy. Why because he screams his dialogue and mentions his plan to destroy the world every chance he gets.
But the one bright spot has to go to of course, Jason Mantzoukas. Whenever he was on screen it was like the writer finally took this concept and have fun with it. Either that or he just improvised most of his lines because he probably read the script and said you want me to take this shit seriously.
The action is your standard PG-13 action fight and car chases. No blood, no sense in danger, and yeah you can see what is happening like it is shot so you can fully see what is going on, but going on in these fight scenes is at all exciting or even remotely interesting to see if our hero gets out alive. Which the stakes could have been more present if they took advantage of that ability. So in the Old Guard when you die you come back to life in your own body. So you know you get killed by someone but you are still the bad ass before and can now probably kill who ever killed you. That film took that premise and yes while on paper doesn’t seem that drastic made it feel like time is running out and they need to keep going. Here the whole idea that after you die you are put into another body. So you then have to wait years for you to fully gain back your memory and hopefully you would be out in a body that has no problems whatsoever. If handled right that is a ticking clock where time is important. But the movie just throws us into the end of that when we shift over to Mark Wahlberg. Because now the whole world is in danger and you like of course it is.
The movie is a mess from a story structure and not even on an entertainment level. It could be seen as so bad it is good because many moments I was laughing my ass off of how bad this movie is.
3/10 - DirectorMalcolm D. LeeStarsLeBron JamesDon CheadleCedric JoeA rogue artificial intelligence kidnaps the son of famed basketball player LeBron James, who then has to work with the Looney Tunes to win a basketball game.Yeah it’s pretty bad. But at least the actual Space Jam itself was fun enough for me to give it at least two stars. LeBron James is not an actor. But you know what good for him for delivering a movie that topped Godzilla vs Kong at the box office and an A- cinema score. So he can held his head up high for knowing that some people out there do like this movie.
As for myself this is just a useless sequel that you don’t need to waste your time with. The first one is fine too. I’m not in love with the first as much as the generation before or ahead or whatever does. So I really don’t have any connection to the first one or care enough if they ruin any type of legacy that was made before.
I just didn’t find any of the characters and I mean any of the characters or actors be any good. Even the lonely tones themselves didn’t seem all that interesting. Some gags are funny but nothing got past a chuckle. And this whole story about how Don Cheadle character has this beef with LeBron because he said his idea sucks to then trap him and his son in the server to play a basketball game. I mean I guess it works but man it just felt like a lot to get to the actual space jam. Because then you have to explain why the lonely toons all are separate which is a clever way to go to different properties but man those are over so quickly that it is just stock footage from the movie with inserted looney toons characters. Except with Lola Bunny. Her introduction is actually the best one.
Like I said the actual game itself is silly and a little bit of fun so I didn’t hate the whole movie. But man was this just a big waste of time. For an almost 2 hour movie and a good two thirds of the movie is just useless. None of the writing works between the characters along with the actors not really doing anything to make those lines believable. I mean hell LeBron is a basketball player and he can’t even make basketball talk all that interesting. All the family drama stuff is something you have seen before and done way better. The direction by Malcom D. Lee is nothing special and it has come out that he had to come in last minute because they didn’t have faith in the last director.
Which brings me to talk about Warner Bros as a whole studio. Because they are featured heavy here. Sure it was nice for them to do this day and date release strategy with all of their 2021 movie slate. But with everything coming out about them how they handle their movies and the countless decisions they keep messing up it makes it harder to defend them. This movie is not terrible but it reeks of corporate mandate checklist in order to to satisfy the higher ups instead of the audience. And some it seems it worked in their favor. But it was just not for me.
3/10 - DirectorRobert LorenzStarsKatheryn WinnickLiam NeesonTeresa RuizA rancher on the Arizona border becomes the unlikely defender of a young Mexican boy desperately fleeing the cartel assassins who've pursued him into the U.S.
- DirectorsShari Springer BermanRobert PulciniStarsAmanda SeyfriedJames NortonNatalia DyerA woman begins to suspect that her home harbors a dark secret.I sat in a living room for two hours. Two hours.
How long?
Two hours.
Watching the most uninteresting horror movie in a while. But I totally understand where Amanda Seyfried is coming from. Behind every woman who goes “crazy” there is a man who neglected her from day one. The passive aggressiveness between these two are just annoying. Seriously tho guys will always play the, “that bitch is crazy.” Card but in the end it is ultimately the guy’s fault.
4/10 - DirectorKevin LewisStarsNicolas CageEmily TostaBeth GrantA quiet drifter is tricked into a janitorial job at the now condemned Willy's Wonderland. The mundane tasks suddenly become an all-out fight for survival against wave after wave of demonic animatronics. Fists fly, kicks land, titans clash -- and only one side will make it out alive.Nic Cage is the best actor in the movie and he doesn’t even speak throughout the movie. But the people who do have speaking roles are terrible. Emily Tosta who plays this character that has something to do with this place has the most to do but she fails at it. The other actors are like non existent. Seriously no one in this movie has a resemble of anything to entertain the viewer. Sure the performances are not top notch what about the kills what about the laughs what about the sex? All terrible I didn’t like any of the kills, I laughed at one part, and Cayley Cowan who plays the character who has sex so of course we know what is going to happen. You can call everything from a mile away. I really had a tone of trouble getting into this movie. And I love Nic Cage but this movie is really bad.
3/10 - DirectorsZoe Lister-JonesDaryl WeinStarsZoe Lister-JonesCailee SpaenyWhitney CummingsIn this feel-good apocalyptic comedy, Liza (Zoe Lister-Jones) embarks on a hilarious journey through LA in hopes of making it to her last party before it all ends, running into an eclectic cast of characters along the way.
- DirectorLana WachowskiStarsKeanu ReevesCarrie-Anne MossYahya Abdul-Mateen IIReturn to a world of two realities: one, everyday life; the other, what lies behind it. To find out if his reality is a construct, to truly know himself, Mr. Anderson will have to choose to follow the white rabbit once more.God I wish I love this but I don’t.
- DirectorMiguel ArtetaStarsJennifer GarnerEdgar RamírezJenna OrtegaA mom and dad who usually say no decide to say yes to their kids' wildest requests with a few ground rules on a whirlwind day of fun and adventure. It’s harmless. But I do love seeing white women get with Latino men. Yes I know that has nothing to do with the story but cmon, let me have this. The movie is also pretty annoying in how bad these kids are. But I guess if you have a family it does at least try to teach them some responsibilities.
4/10 - DirectorJoe WrightStarsAmy AdamsGary OldmanAnthony MackieAn agoraphobic woman living alone in New York begins spying on her new neighbors, only to witness a disturbing act of violence. It is not terrible. It is just so damn frustrating to see that this film is trying way to hard to be a modern Rear Window. Listen long story short the movie doesn’t get interesting until the big finale twist. Because it is messed up but nothing that happens before the twist is that fun to watch. Amy Adams doesn’t even make this worth watching. None of the other cast members do anything to enhance the story. It was a real waste to see really talented actors be in this movie with nothing to do. The film is trying so hard to be a thriller but it is not a good sign to come off trying rather than succeeding. Because you really just come off as imitating at that point. Kinda like Monster did. But it is just plain bad from the writing directing and even acting. Like wow this film went through some shit.
4/10 - DirectorTim HillStarsTim HillClancy BrownBill FagerbakkeAfter SpongeBob's beloved pet snail Gary is snail-napped, he and Patrick embark on an epic adventure to the Lost City of Atlantic City to bring Gary home.A couple of things:
1.) Thank you Stephen Hillenburg for making something than will span generations that staying and being positive will bring much joy and excitement to your life. I learned that at a young age just by watching his show and I will continue to live by that as I get older.
2.) I’m so sorry for what they are doing to your masterpiece after you gave us something to look up too.
3.) Why couldn’t this story be about King Trident needs a new fry cook, he then enlist on Spongebob to help him train new chiefs so they can cook for him. He then goes to the lost city of Atlantic with Gary. So while Spongebob is gone; Patrick, Mr. Krabs, Squidward, Sandy, and Plankton all move on with their lives without him. Mr. Krabs retires from the Krusty Krab (for good this time) and leaves his daughter, Pearl, in charge. Squidward has gotten better at playing the Clarinet because he has more time to practice. He is finally given the opportunity to fulfill his dream to play the Clarinet and eventually want to teach so there is no need for him to work at the Krusty Krab. Sandy is called back to Texas. The chimps don’t see any reason for her to continue her research and requires her to go to other places for her research. She agrees to leave as really nothing is holding her to stay at the Bikini Bottom. Plankton gives up his search for the Kraby patty secret formula because Karen is sick and tired of his failed attempts. Also for once he listens to Karen and accepts his defeat while the two of them develop their own new thing and it brings success to the chum bucket. Finally there is Patrick. Surely nothing can tear apart these best friends quite like nothing was going to tear apart Woody and Buzz. But instead and this is where maybe the Patrick spin off could work. (I mean you don’t have to do a spin-off anyway.) but Patrick also leaves during Spongebob’s time away because he realizes that without Spongebob he doesn’t really have a purpose. He goes off and finds what that truly means because everyone else around him has a purpose. You are not degrading Patrick as a character but instead injecting his life with something we as the audience we all want. It will teach young kids to go on our own path to find what makes us, us. To really understand what makes a person truly happy. He sees the success of everyone else around and he seeks out what that truly feels like. Spongebob then returns home and sees everything has changed. He still fry cooks at the Krusty Krab and the Krusty Krab is still the Krusty Krab it is just Spongebob is losing his touch. He is not working as fast as he used to and you can really see that reflected with the new fry cooks Pearl hired. Spongebob no matter what tho still tries to have a can do attitude. In the end he realizes that his friends were the reason his life meant so much. He is still happy because he has to realize that in life nothing caters to your every liking. You will be disappointed and you will have downs. He tries to cheer up his fellow co workers but nothing is the same unlike his true friends. So at the end he comes home hugs Gary tells him that he loves him and goes to bed. To start and do the same thing everyday until he can’t no more.
4.) This movie sucks.
4/10 - DirectorJustin LinStarsVin DieselMichelle RodriguezJordana BrewsterDom and the crew must take on an international terrorist who turns out to be Dom and Mia's estranged brother.I can never outright hate any of these movies. But holy shit was this almost there. Listen just grab a couple of people and drinks and laugh either along with these movies or at them because this shit is ridiculous and out of control. There has been fast and furious movies I have liked before but this is not one of them. I’m just waiting to see what comes next because seriously what else can they do.
4/10
