- DirectorRidley ScottStarsSigourney WeaverTom SkerrittJohn HurtThe crew of a commercial spacecraft encounters a deadly lifeform after investigating a mysterious transmission of unknown origin. This is a near flawless film. Masterful in direction, acting, tone, suspense, style and writing (for the most part), Alien is my personal favourite because it is a masterpiece that stands the test of time beautifully. It starts slowly and then grabs you by the balls in one intense, claustrophobic nightmare of a film and refuses to let go. It is a outstanding film that should be admired for not only it's quality, but how it changed the face of cinema forever. It is my favourite film.
- DirectorRichard KellyStarsJake GyllenhaalJena MaloneMary McDonnellAfter narrowly escaping a bizarre accident, a troubled teenager is plagued by visions of a man in a large rabbit suit who manipulates him to commit a series of crimes.
- DirectorPeter CollinsonStarsMichael CaineNoël CowardBenny HillA comic caper movie about a plan to steal a gold shipment from the streets of Turin by creating a traffic jam.It is hard to pinpoint what is so brilliant about this film. Sure, some of the film is quite dated and there are many flaws with it, but to me, it's strong points make it the ultimate caper film. Superb acting, great dialogue and fun characters with some of Britain's finest actors make it a brilliant thrill-ride that may be flawed, put still holds up for me. It is a great little gem from 60's British cinema. Avoid the 2003 remake like the plague though.
- DirectorJames CameronStarsArnold SchwarzeneggerLinda HamiltonMichael BiehnA human soldier is sent from 2029 to 1984 to stop an almost indestructible cyborg killing machine, sent from the same year, which has been programmed to execute a young woman whose unborn son is the key to humanity's future salvation.
- DirectorPaul VerhoevenStarsPeter WellerNancy AllenDan O'HerlihyIn a dystopic and crime-ridden Detroit, a terminally wounded cop returns to the force as a powerful cyborg haunted by submerged memories.
- DirectorPeter JacksonStarsElijah WoodIan McKellenOrlando BloomA meek Hobbit from the Shire and eight companions set out on a journey to destroy the powerful One Ring and save Middle-earth from the Dark Lord Sauron. The best film trilogy ever made. To me, they are all an epic, emotional and fun one film. While I've never read the book, the movies more than lived up to the hype and had great characters, great battle scenes and have an epic scope that I have yet to see matched.
- DirectorPeter JacksonStarsElijah WoodIan McKellenViggo MortensenWhile Frodo and Sam edge closer to Mordor with the help of the shifty Gollum, the divided fellowship makes a stand against Sauron's new ally, Saruman, and his hordes of Isengard.
- DirectorPeter JacksonStarsElijah WoodViggo MortensenIan McKellenGandalf and Aragorn lead the World of Men against Sauron's army to draw his gaze from Frodo and Sam as they approach Mount Doom with the One Ring.
- DirectorQuentin TarantinoStarsJohn TravoltaUma ThurmanSamuel L. JacksonThe lives of two mob hitmen, a boxer, a gangster and his wife, and a pair of diner bandits intertwine in four tales of violence and redemption. The best crime film ever made. What is there left to say? Do I discuss the great acting, writing, storytelling, comedy and characters? I already feel that enough have sung their praises about this film already (including my review on my IMDB page) and this film definitely deserves that praise and then some. So if you haven't seen, do you now. You won't be disappointed.
- DirectorQuentin TarantinoStarsHarvey KeitelTim RothMichael MadsenWhen a simple jewelry heist goes horribly wrong, the surviving criminals begin to suspect that one of them is a police informant. This has to not only be one of the best debuts of all time, but one of the best films of all time. Despite it's low budget, limited setting and some plot holes, this indie thriller burst onto the scene with brilliant story, some great characters and a new format of storytelling and dialogue that hadn't been seen up to that point, that unfortunately many hack writers have tried to use since. However this film still stands strongly despite that and it's definitely worth checking out.
- DirectorCurtis HansonStarsKevin SpaceyRussell CroweGuy PearceAs corruption grows in 1950s Los Angeles, three policemen - one strait-laced, one brutal, and one sleazy - investigate a series of murders with their own brand of justice.
- DirectorHenry SelickStarsDanny ElfmanChris SarandonCatherine O'HaraJack Skellington, king of Halloween Town, discovers Christmas Town, but his attempts to bring Christmas to his home causes confusion.
- DirectorJohn G. AvildsenStarsSylvester StalloneTalia ShireBurt YoungA small-time Philadelphia boxer gets a supremely rare chance to fight the world heavyweight champion in a bout in which he strives to go the distance for his self-respect.The ultimate feel-good film. Despite it's many parodies and rubbish sequels, Rocky is a truly brilliant film that deserves it's reputation as a great movie. Sure it starts slow, but it keeps getting better and better and by the end, you'll be fully satisfied.
- DirectorBritt AllcroftStarsAlec BaldwinCody McMainsRussell MeansThomas the Tank Engine searches for gold dust that will allow his magical friend Mr. Conductor to return home, while also helping a girl restore her grandfather's enchanted locomotive.I know this may seem an unpopular choice, considering how much flack this film gets, but it holds so much happy memories and has so much joy and wonder for me. It's a very enjoyable, very happy movie that I have a soft spot for.
- DirectorStanley DonenGene KellyStarsGene KellyDonald O'ConnorDebbie ReynoldsA silent film star falls for a chorus girl just as he and his delusionally jealous screen partner are trying to make the difficult transition to talking pictures in 1920s Hollywood.
