• No relations to earlier anime or video games, unless they don't share any main characters, or if the film includes everything from the earlier anime.
• No films that were originally intended as the first part of a series.

Inclusions explained:

• Redline shares 2 characters with Trava: Fist Planet, but no main characters.
• Eve no jikan includes everything from the 6-episode ONA.
• Patema Inverted includes everything from the 4-episode ONA (the ONA is the first ~25 minutes of the movie).
• Interstella 5555 is listed in the music category, but it's a movie.
• Leafie, a Hen Into the Wild is a Korean film (and it's standalone).
• The Cat Returns shares a character with Whisper of the Heart, but no main characters.
• Memories is listed as having 3 episodes, but it is an anthology film.

Exclusions explained:

• Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children Complete and Professor Layton and the Eternal Diva are based on video games.
• Ghost in the Shell 2.0 is the same film as Ghost in the Shell, but with some new CGI.
• Kara no Kyoukai, Break Blade, and Mardock Scramble were intended as movie series.
• Acchi Kocchi is not available, so I left it out. Voters confused it with an unrelated series with the same title.
• Hi no Ame ga Furu (1988) hasn't been subbed, so I left it out.
• Cowboy Bebop: The Movie, Lupin III: The Castle of Cagliostro, You Are Umasou, Macross: Do You Remember Love?, Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust, and Galaxy Express 999 are related to earlier anime, so they are excluded, although some people watch them without watching the earlier anime.
