100 Impressive films of the 2000's
Egged on by a few other list makers, I decided to work on my own list, and took inspiration from Sight And Sound's Films of the Decade, which attempted to cull 30 of the best, most distinctive ones to represent the landscape of outstanding cinema during the 2000's. I have seen all but 7 of theirs (and most of the others that Nick James mentions in his intro), and think that they not only did a reputable job, but that they approached their list in a similar way that I have.
I have made my own list a bit longer, and while I very much respect their choice of Claire Denis as filmmaker of the decade, I have to choose Michael Haneke (just ahead of Lars Von Trier), who made one brilliant film after another that were bookended by two of my top 10.
I whittled my list down from roughly 200 films to include the films that stood out the most to me, though the list might look somewhat different (both in terms of order as in terms of what is included) if I were to make it on a different day.
