- DirectorFrank CapraStarsClark GableClaudette ColbertWalter ConnollyA rogue reporter trailing a runaway heiress for a big story joins her on a bus heading from Florida to New York and they end up stuck with each other when the bus leaves them behind at one of the stops along the way.Beautiful movie, despite the gruesome hairstyle of the main actress.
It was nominated for five main Academy Awards and deservedly won all five. The only two films that have repeated this success are "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" and "The Silence of the Lambs".
9/10 - DirectorErnst LubitschStarsGreta GarboMelvyn DouglasIna ClaireA stern Soviet woman sent to Paris to supervise the sale of jewels seized from Russian nobles finds herself attracted to a man who represents everything she is supposed to detest.Screwball romantic comedy
If you want just to relax and enjoy charms of true stars of old in dignified comedy, this is a perfect choice for you.
7,5/10 - DirectorGeorge CukorStarsCary GrantKatharine HepburnJames StewartWhen a rich woman's ex-husband and a tabloid-type reporter turn up just before her planned remarriage, she begins to learn the truth about herself.Sophisticated romantic screwball
Part screwball, part romantic comedy from the forties. Love triangle starring Katharine Hepburn, Cary Grant and James Stewart. It simply can not fail. One of my all-time favorites.
9/10 - DirectorPreston SturgesStarsBarbara StanwyckHenry FondaCharles CoburnA trio of classy card sharks targets a socially awkward brewery heir, until one of them falls in love with him.Deception
The snake in this movie isn't a snake at all. It's just a legless lizard. Otherwise, I have no objections. Preston Sturges assembled a great cast and turned this well-written story into a true masterpiece of romantic comedy. Intelligent, witty and heartwarming.

9/10 - DirectorJohn FordStarsJohn WayneMaureen O'HaraBarry FitzgeraldA retired American boxer returns to the village of his birth in 1920s Ireland, where he falls for a spirited redhead whose brother is contemptuous of their union.Lovely :D
- DirectorOtto PremingerStarsWilliam HoldenDavid NivenMaggie McNamaraTwo aging playboys are both after the same attractive young woman, but she fends them off by claiming that she plans to remain a virgin until her wedding night. Both men determine to find a way around her objections."The three things I live for are steak, liquor, and sex."
Adaptation of the eponymous Broadway show from 1951, which came to close to a thousand performances, is the film debut and the only Oscar nomination for Maggie McNamara. This is the first Hollywood mainstream movie to use the words "virgin," "seduce," and "mistress," which has led to censorship battles, and it was even banned in some places, but it ended up with three Academy Award nominations. This romantic comedy was scandalous at the time. It is interesting to see what was considered unacceptable and vulgar behavior in the middle of the last century. I'd love to see the faces of the cans of that time when flipping through today's tabloids.
7/10 - DirectorWilliam WylerStarsGregory PeckAudrey HepburnEddie AlbertA bored and sheltered princess escapes her guardians and falls in love with an American newsman in Rome.Bitter-sweet romance nominated for 10 Oscars. It won 3, including Oscar for leading female role that went to hands of heavenly Audrey Hepburn, in her first American movie.
- DirectorJerome RobbinsRobert WiseStarsNatalie WoodGeorge ChakirisRichard BeymerTwo youngsters from rival New York City gangs fall in love, but tensions between their respective friends build toward tragedy.Love-hated it...
This movie drove me crazy. I barely forced myself to see it through because it is extremely annoyingly done and I rate such movies 2/10 (1/10 is for those I gave up on), but when it finally ended I was under such an amazing impression that I wanted to rate it 10/10.
The story is inspired by "Romeo and Juliet", but placed in NY in the mid-20th century, where two members of opponent teenage gangs fall in love. Acting, directing and music are great. The movie is extremely emotional and possesses strength and atmosphere of a theater. It has all prerequisites for excellence. And it won 10 Oscars. But...- Everything in this movie is overemphasized and I hate that. However, if I observe it as a theatrical play on canvas, I can get over it.
- The movie starts with an instrumental intro with a frozen screen. It lasts around five minutes. At first, I thought my movie player was stuck, then I tried to find another version online and I almost gave up on watching this movie, when I finally realized it is supposed to be that way. Why would anyone do such thing I really have no idea, and that's the first minus.
- It's a damn musical. And one of those needlessly stretched to two and a half hours by completely redundant musical numbers. The first half of the movie is almost unwatchable and I was at the edge of giving up several times. But curiosity about how the story will go kept me going on. The story is great and some musical numbers tell parts of the story, but a good part of them just have no purpose in the movie. They are just for enjoying the music (which I did not) and to double the length of the film. That's the second minus.
- Just when I decided to stick it out or simply fast forward redundant parts and watch this movie till the end, the ultimate deal breaker happened that left me shocked. The scene where two gangs are closing to "battlefield" and mass brawl/rumble itself are shown in the form of ballet. BALLET?! Even if I didn't hate ballet, which I really do, I mean, really?! Teenage mass fight as a ballet... wtf?! The ultimately stupidest thing I saw on a big screen. Instant embarrassment transfer. Huge minus, I mean really really big.
- And then, in the middle of the movie, there's one more musical intermezzo with a frozen screen. That was too much for my nerves and I turned it off.
But, later it bothered me how the story ends and I decided to see another half too, the very next day. The second half had more story and action and less redundancy, and musical numbers are a structural part of the plot. And the ending made me cry. And how should I rate it now...

Natalie Wood is so beautiful in this movie. Like an angel. - DirectorStanley KubrickStarsJames MasonShelley WintersSue LyonA middle-aged college professor becomes infatuated with a 14-year-old girl.I prefer the 1997 remake, but still a great movie
"Lolita" (1997) was always one of my very favorites, and rare example of the movie better than the book. When I saw this one for the first time I was a kid and I could not stand black and white movies, but I still decided to watch it because of my love towards the book and movie from '90s. Unfortunately, 160 minutes of black and white was too much for me. Two decades later I finally watched the whole thing and I definitely recommend it to everyone who didn't see it yet. And newer one too. And the book. How could I even think that Kubrick could fail... I'm ashamed.
7/10 - DirectorBernardo BertolucciStarsMarlon BrandoMaria SchneiderMaria MichiA young Parisian woman meets a middle-aged American businessman who demands their clandestine relationship be based only on sex.Go, get the butter
It took me days to come to my senses after watching this movie. Wow! Marlon Brando was nominated for an Oscar for this part. His competition were Jack Nicholson, Al Pacino, and Robert Redford, and the Oscar went to Jack Lemon. Definitely tough competition. I could not decide which one of them is more awesome.
Fun fact - Bernardo Bertolucci was sentenced to four months in prison in Italy for making this movie, while in America he was nominated for an Academy Award.
8/10 - DirectorWoody AllenStarsWoody AllenDiane KeatonTony RobertsAlvy Singer, a divorced Jewish comedian, reflects on his relationship with ex-lover Annie Hall, an aspiring nightclub singer, which ended abruptly just like his previous marriages."After that, it got pretty late and we both had to go, but it was great seeing Annie again. I realized what a terrific person she was and how much fun it was just knowing her. And I thought of that old joke: this guy goes to a psychiatrist and says, 'Doc, my brother's crazy; he thinks he's a chicken.' And the doctor says, 'Well, why don't you turn him in?' The guy says, 'I would, but I need the eggs.' Well, I guess that's pretty much now how I feel about relationships: they're totally irrational, and crazy, and absurd, and... but, I guess, we keep goin' through it because most of us... need the eggs."
7/10 - DirectorJovan AcinStarsGala VidenovicRelja BasicNebojsa BakocevicIn 1985, four middle-aged Yugoslav emigres return to Belgrade for the funeral of Mariana, their beautiful compatriot. They called her Esther, for Esther Williams, she was the coxswain for their four-man rowing team, and they each loved her. They'd last seen her in 1953, when they rowed her across the Adriatic, pregnant, to join her exiled father in Italy. In flashbacks we learn the story of their youthful baptism into sex, smoking, rock and roll (Hey Ba-ba-re-bop), Hollywood and Swedish films, blue jeans on the black market, and their rivalry with Ristic, the Communist Party youth leader for whom they had instant antipathy.
- DirectorDavid ZuckerStarsLeslie NielsenPriscilla PresleyGeorge KennedyLieutenant Frank Drebin discovers that his ex-girlfriend's new beau is involved in a plot to kidnap a scientist who advocates solar energy. In my opinion better than the first one. Lots of stupid and even more fun. And full of references to cult movies. I really laughed out loud. :D
7,5/10 - DirectorJeremiah S. ChechikStarsJohnny DeppMary Stuart MastersonAidan QuinnA mentally ill young woman finds her love in an eccentric man who models himself after Buster Keaton.Beautiful story
Mary Stuart Masterson plays a mentally ill girl who lives with her brother. His life is reduced to work and taking care of the ill sister, without any privacy or dedication to himself and his own life and future. And then in their lives enter Johnny Depp in the role of a weird semi-literate boy, a fan of Chaplin and Keaton, and Oscar-winning Julianne Moore in the role of a local waitress. Nothing pretentious, pretty much predictable, but sincere, strong, romantic and most of all fun.
8/10 - DirectorAdrian LyneStarsRobert RedfordDemi MooreWoody HarrelsonA billionaire offers $1,000,000 to a young married couple for one night with the wife."If you want something very badly, set it free. If it comes back to you, it's yours forever. If it doesn't, it was never yours to begin with."
Terribly underrated movie. Although the basic premise is somewhat unrealistic, consequences are something many couples, if not the majority of them, can relate to. Almost everyone at least once had essentially similar situation, regardless of the fact that specific circumstances were different. If nothing else, Woody, Demi, and Robert are enough reason to see this film.
8/10 - DirectorJeremy LevenStarsJohnny DeppMarlon BrandoFaye DunawayA psychiatrist must cure a young patient who presents himself as Don Juan, the world's greatest lover. Why not...
If I do not count when parents was taking me as a child, this film is my first going to the movies, my first encounter with Johnny Depp and forever one of my favorites. The main character is based on Lord Byron's Don Juan, the movie is produced by Francis Ford Coppola, Michael Kamen was in charge of music, the main track is one of the most beautiful love songs I've ever heard, and when you add to it that the main roles are interpreted by geniuses, such as Johnny Depp, Faye Dunaway and, one of the greatest actors of all time, Marlon Brando, you get the ultimate love movie. In my opinion, the essence of this film, and also the essence of life itself, is contained in one of the last sentences: "Why not..."
9/10
The most beautiful quotes:- There are only four questions of value in life, Don Octavio. What is sacred? Of what is the spirit made? What is worth living for, and what is worth dying for? The answer to each is the same: only love.
- By seeing beyond what is visible to the eye. Now there are those, of course, who do not share my perceptions, it's true. When I say that all my woman are dazzling beauties, they object. The nose of this one is too large; the hips of another, they are too wide; perhaps the breasts of a third, they are too small. But I see these women for how they truly are... glorious, radiant, spectacular, and perfect, because, I am not limited by my eyesight. Women react to me the way that they do, Don Octavio, because they sense that I search out the beauty that dwells within until it overwhelms everything else. And then they cannot avoid their desire, to release that beauty and envelope me in it.
- Have you never met a woman who inspires you to love? Until your every sense is filled with her? You inhale her. You taste her. You see your unborn children in her eyes and know that your heart has at last found a home. Your life begins with her, and without her it must surely end.
- You want Don Juan DeMarco, the world's greatest lover, to talk to you? What do you know of great love? Have you ever loved a woman until milk leaked from her as though she had just given birth to love itself, and now must feed it or burst? Have you ever tasted a woman until she believed that she could be satisfied only by consuming the tongue that had devoured her? Have you ever loved a woman so completely that the sound of your voice in her ear could cause her body to shudder and explode with such intense pleasure that only weeping could bring her full release?
- Every true lover knows that the moment of greatest satisfaction comes when ecstasy is long over and he beholds before him the flower which has blossomed beneath his touch.
- Every woman is a mystery to be solved.
- Doña Ana: Very well, my love. I will accept that I'm not the first if you will tell me, with the same... honesty, how many others there have been. Don Juan: [voice-over: This would have been a very good time for me to lie. But truth is a terrible habit.] Including you... there have been... exactly... one... thousand, five hundred and two.
- Sadly, I must report that the last patient I ever treated, the great lover Don Juan DeMarco, suffered from a romanticism which was completely incurable, and even worse, highly contagious.
- DirectorAdrian LyneStarsJeremy IronsDominique SwainMelanie GriffithAn English professor falls for a minor, and has to face the consequences of his actions.Ignore description on IMDb
"A man marries his landlady so he can take advantage of her daughter." - The worst description of this movie possible, lie that gives a completely wrong picture of what you can expect to see in this film.
Disturbed, but at the same time very romantic and sad love/life story, much much better than the original novel by Nabokov. One of my favorite movies of all time.
10/10
"She was Lo, plain Lo in the morning, standing 4'10 in one sock. She was Lola in slacks. She was Dolly at school. She was Dolores on the dotted line. In my arms, she was always Lolita, light of my life, fire of my loins, my sin, my soul, Lolita."
"I was a daisy-fresh girl and look what you've done to me. I should call the police and tell them that you raped me, you dirty old man."
"Despite all the danger and hopelessness of it all, I was in paradise, paradise whose skies were the color of hell flames, but a paradise still." - DirectorBrad SilberlingStarsNicolas CageMeg RyanAndre BraugherAn angel on Earth, a doctor unable to believe, a patient with a secret, a love story made in Heaven."I would rather have had one breath of her hair, one kiss of her mouth, one touch of her hand, than eternity without it. One."
An angel, who leads souls of the deceased to the other side, comes to a hospital to pick up a patient, but falls in love with patient's young doctor. For her, he sacrifices eternity and becomes mortal, and with her he discovers the true meaning of being human.
Although tragic, this drama is, in my opinion, one of the most beautiful and most powerful love stories ever filmed. Nicolas Cage and Meg Ryan are excellent in leading roles and they have fantastic chemistry together. To me, this movie is the perfection of its genre.

This movie had no luck with critics, but it is near the top of my all-time favorites. One of the most beautiful love stories, with deep thoughts about life, and with Pitt and Hopkins in leading roles you can't ask for much more.
9/10 - DirectorAndy TennantStarsJodie FosterChow Yun-FatBai LingThe story of the romance between the King of Siam and widowed British schoolteacher, Anna Leonowens, during the 1860s.Masterpiece
Based on the true story of an English teacher who comes in Siam in mid of 19th century to teach the king's children. Clash of two cultures causes many troubles, but also causes many changes in the king's way of thinking and understanding, and mostly influences the king's oldest son who, when he inherits the throne, reforms the country, abolish slavery and reforms judiciary.
Great acting, very emotional story and just enough of action make two hours of the movie simply whiz through you and leave you with tears in your eyes.
10/10 - DirectorLasse HallströmStarsJuliette BinocheJohnny DeppJudi DenchA French woman and her young daughter open up a chocolate shop in a small remote village that shakes up the rigid morality of the community.Bitter-sweet as dark chocolate
Beautiful story, beautifully done. There's not much to say about this movie. Just make yourself comfortable in front of the screen and enjoy some chocolate dessert.

7,5/10 - DirectorJames MangoldStarsMeg RyanHugh JackmanLiev SchreiberAn English Duke from 1876 is inadvertently dragged to modern day New York where he falls for a plucky advertising executive.Correct me if I'm wrong, but if I understood this right, for 4 years Stuart was in sexual relationship with his own great-grandmother. 8/10 - DirectorCarlos CarreraStarsGael García BernalAna Claudia TalancónSancho GraciaPolitics and sexual passions threaten to corrupt a young, newly-ordained priest in a small Mexican town."I made you the priest's whore"
"The Crime of Father Amaro" tells a story about a young Mexican priest who is lost in a world of romance and politics, a world that is completely new for him. With this theme and justified R classification, there were numerous controversies and attempts to ban it, but instead it became a big hit, earned more than any other Mexican film before it, and was nominated for the Best Foreign Film Oscar. Personally, I think it is overrated and I do not see the quality that deserves an Oscar nomination, but I quite liked it and warmly recommend it.
7/10 - DirectorSteven ShainbergStarsJames SpaderMaggie GyllenhaalJeremy DaviesA young woman, recently released from a mental hospital, gets a job as a secretary to a demanding lawyer, where their employer-employee relationship turns into a sexual, sadomasochistic one.Must watch!
I do not like SM, Maggie Gyllenhaal I never liked and comparing this to "50 Shades of Grey" was a complete deal breaker. But finally, I decided to see it because of James Spider. I like him a lot. And now I'm sorry that I did not see this movie back in 2002. because then I could use the past 15 years to see it a dozen more times. This movie is unbelievable. It is based on SM relationship, but it is more about love and determination to fight for what you really want. Spider is good as always, but Maggie was a real surprise. I never saw her this way before. Beautiful, sweet and good actress. I underestimated her unfairly. And the music was done by Angelo Badalamenti, author of legendary "Twin Peaks" soundtrack. Movie hypnotized me completely and two hours was not long enough. I was horny, crying and laughing all at the same time. I cannot recall any other movie ever had such effect on me. It blew my mind. This is one of easiest tens I ever gave and I'm a miser when it comes to rating movies.
10/10 - DirectorYann SamuellStarsGuillaume CanetMarion CotillardThibault VerhaegheAs adults, best friends Julien and Sophie continue the odd game they started as children -- a fearless competition to outdo one another with daring and outrageous stunts. While they often act out to relieve one another's pain, their game might be a way to avoid the fact that they are truly meant for one another."A stupid game? Maybe so, but it was our game."
When I first saw this movie a few years ago, I was under the impression for days. Halfway through, it became one of my favorites and I rated it nine. This time the impression was somewhat weaker. Maybe due to the lack of a surprise factor, but I think that's exactly what allowed me to perceive it more objectively. The film follows the life of a couple, crazy in love with each other, ever since they met in early childhood. But instead of being together, they spend their lives as best friends who have devoted their entire lives to a completely wicked and at times sick challenging game. The story is original and full of surprises, but on the second watching, when there are no surprises and shocks, it loses quite a lot. I don't know the lead actor from before, and he didn't make much of an impression on me, though he was far from being bad, but Marion Cotillard nailed her role as usual. The directing and editing are extremely interesting and totally in the French style, and it would be obvious that the film is French even if it was made in English. I didn't like the ending, but it may be that the whole story makes sense only with such an ending. I'm not even sure I understood it well. I'm left with very mixed feelings, but the movie is definitely worth the attention. I think it's best not to try too hard to look at it objectively and analyze it, but just let its madness carry you. Warm recommendation.
8/10 - DirectorRobert BentonStarsAnthony HopkinsNicole KidmanEd HarrisWhen a disgraced former college dean has a romance with a mysterious younger woman haunted by her dark, twisted past, he is forced to confront a shocking fact about his own life that he has kept secret for fifty years.Deeply sad and beautiful
Drama about fear and prejudice, about false morality and double standards, about racism and political correctness that goes more and more into extremes, until it becomes equally evil as the evil it fights against. I always loved Hopkins and with every new movie I love him more. I think there's no role he cannot nail and make story deeper and stronger. And if I continue to watch movies with Nicole Kidman I risk falling in love. A few days ago, when I saw "Far and Away", my antipathy towards her weakened, and after "The Human Stain" it completely disappeared. Now I just need to see "Moulin Rouge" once again and I'll start sticking her posters around the room like a teenager.
8,5/10 - DirectorBernardo BertolucciStarsMichael PittLouis GarrelEva GreenA young American studying in Paris in 1968 strikes up a friendship with a French brother and sister. Set against the background of the '68 Paris student riots. How I fell in love with Eva Green
Bernardo Bertolucci has always been one of my favorite directors, but with this film, he bought me for all time. "The Dreamers" is a film that I saw many times and I've never found the strength nor found the right words to describe and analyze it. This is an example of movie magic, and magic cannot be explained. Or maybe I do not want to try, fearing that by analyzing I could spoil my love for this movie. A strong story, perfect atmosphere, great music and a very good feeling for details. "The Dreamers" is full of references to many famous movies and, as my movie experience grows with years, every time I watch it the experience is getting stronger. Eva Green is fantastic and it's hard to believe that this is her first movie role. I'd be lying if I said that her nudity and sex scenes had no influence, but mostly I was fascinated by her overall appearance and a powerful presence on the screen, and this fascination holds me for fifteen years. The first cadre of the scene where she mimics Venus de Milo is one of the most beautiful erotic photographs I have ever seen.
10/10 - DirectorPaul McGuiganStarsJosh HartnettDiane KrugerMatthew LillardA young Chicago advertising executive believes a woman he sees in a café is his long-lost love. His belief leads to obsession, as he puts his life on hold in order to trail her.I was thrilled and I loved it :D
I have no idea how original this idea really is, but "Wicker Park" was something completely new to me. It combines romantic drama genre with mindfak mystery thriller, creating a sub-genre I would love to see more often. This mix nails both genres in such a hypnotizing way that I was glued to the screen and I was sad that it isn't a series instead of a movie. Warm recommendation.
9/10 - DirectorMarc ForsterStarsJohnny DeppKate WinsletJulie ChristieThe story of Sir J.M. Barrie's friendship with a family who inspired him to create Peter Pan.Story about Sir J.M. Barry and creation of Peter Pan. Although Depp was nominated for Academy Award, in my opinion this is one of his weakest performances. In female leading role is Kate Winslet who I can not stand. But in spite of that, this is one of the most beautiful and emotional stories I ever saw and it blows me away every time.

This is the story of John Wilmot, the Earl of Rochester, playwright and poet of the 17th century, the man who led a bohemian life to the extreme and drove himself to an early grave at 33. This role brought Johnny Depp award for the most offensive male role (Women Film Critics Circle Awards), and there are also fantastic John Malkovich, funny Richard Coyle, and beautiful Rosamund Pike. Sex, drugs and rock and roll in the 17th-century style.
8/10 - DirectorDoug LimanStarsBrad PittAngelina JolieAdam BrodyA bored married couple is surprised to learn that they are both assassins hired by competing agencies to kill each other.Action/romance Dream Team
Maybe I'll look stupid for saying this, but I adore this movie. Angelina from the time when I couldn't decide if she was a better actress or hotter chick, and Bred, who is one of the best actors in his generation. Angelina went to hell and back these days and Brad is cast into shadows by a new generation of even better looking good actors, but for me, this movie remains one of the dearest "love" stories Hollywood gave us.
9/10 - DirectorAng LeeStarsJake GyllenhaalHeath LedgerMichelle WilliamsEnnis and Jack are two shepherds who develop a sexual and emotional relationship. Their relationship becomes complicated when both of them get married to their respective girlfriends."I wish I knew how to quit you"
For more than a decade, I refused to watch a movie about gays. Man, was I wrong! Although technically the movie is about gays, essentially this is a film about forbidden love, with which many of us can identify, regardless of sexual orientation and the specific circumstances of our own experiences. A well-told story, so emotionally charged that it will make even homophobe cry. The fantastic performances of Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal are incredibly convincing and deserve Oscars, not just nominations. And let's not get any further on, the film is simply perfect. Pure ten.
10/10 - DirectorTim BurtonMike JohnsonStarsJohnny DeppHelena Bonham CarterEmily WatsonWhen a shy groom practices his wedding vows in the inadvertent presence of a deceased young woman, she rises from the grave assuming he has married her. What a story it is. Corpse wakes up, pronounces that fateful "I do" and takes Victor to the underworld. He is trying to escape and get back to the girl he loves. One of Barton's best movies. Plot, emotion, acting, music... beautiful.

7/10 - DirectorMarc WebbStarsZooey DeschanelJoseph Gordon-LevittGeoffrey ArendAfter being dumped by the girl he believes to be his soulmate, hopeless romantic Tom Hansen reflects on their relationship to try and figure out where things went wrong and how he can win her back."This is a story of boy meets girl, but you should know upfront, this is not a love story."
Yes, it is, this is a love story. But this is not a typical love story we are used to seeing on film and the kind we are used to reading in love novels. This is neither a romanticized tragic love from heartbreaking dramas, nor a "lived happily ever after" fairy-tale, nor a romantic comedy. This is the story of love as it really is - silly and serious, gleeful and pathetic, seductive and painful, enlightening and ignorant, energetic and depressing, full of unexpected joy and disappointing, all of that randomly and at the same time ... and above all unpredictable, like life itself. Few of us can identify with Romeo and Juliet, or Don Juan, but I believe that most of us have at least once experienced something similar to this, and this makes this film much stronger and more lifelike than most love stories. Because this is not so much a story about love, as it is about life.
8/10 - DirectorJacques AudiardStarsMarion CotillardMatthias SchoenaertsArmand VerdurePut in charge of his young son, Alain leaves Belgium for Antibes to live with his sister and her husband as a family. Alain's bond with Stephanie, a killer whale trainer, grows deeper after Stephanie suffers a horrible accident.Alain: Do you want to fuck?
Stephanie: Huh?
Alain: You want to know if it still works? So, let's fuck!
Stephanie: Just like that?
Alain: Yeah!
Stephanie: I don't know if I can do it just like that.
Alain: When you feel like it, tell me.
Alain and his son move from Belgium to the French Riviera, where he meets Stephanie, a girl who trains killer whales. After she experiences an accident and remains disabled, their relationship begins to deepen. "Rust and Bone" is a bit morbid but realistic and essentially beautiful love drama, which will tie you to its protagonists and keep you focused from the beginning to the end. The movie is nothing spectacular, but it is quite a refreshment within the genre and I warmly recommend it.

Jennifer Lawrence should give half of her Oscar to Cooper cause both nailed it. She did earn her Oscar, but she was no better than Bradley, so if she got it, he should get one too.
The movie is a bit sleazy, but despite that, it's really good. I saw it when it was released, now I saw it again and I will watch it more in the future. It's kind of a movie that you can't not love, but you also can not say why exactly do you love it.
I do not like Jennifer Lawrence, but in this movie she simply steals our hearts. Really awesome performance.

I know, it sounds sleasy, but the series is really well done. It combines elements of crime series with romance, thriller and a bit of horror. Jay Ryan is good in the role of the "beast", Kristin Kreuk is not particularly good actress, but she is beautiful enough for male audience to forgive her shortcomings in the performance, and Nina Lisandrello as her partner and Austin Basis as a computer magician and "beast's" best friend are great. The story is complicated and interesting, directing and effects are good and the series is very addictive. It has four seasons and it's finished, not canceled, so if you decide to watch, you will finish it pretty quickly and without waiting for new episodes or disappointments that the story has remained unresolved. Recommendation.

Fenomenalna ideja: "Adam and Eden fell in love as teens despite the fact that they live on twinned worlds with gravities that pull in opposite directions. Ten years after a forced separation, Adam sets out on a dangerous quest to reconnect with his love."
Retardirana realizacija: "The visuals and CG are quite beautiful. There has been a lot of effort expended on the movies appearance. Unfortunately, it's a complete waste. If you like cynically criticizing cinematic stupidity while drinking with friends, this movie will prove very entertaining. Otherwise, if you are capable of finding IMDb and reading reviews, then it is highly unlikely this movie will not enrage you. The endless amount of loose ends, partial explanations, annoying narration, shallow dialogue, ... just raises the question of why? Beautiful, but relentlessly stupid."

It begins average interesting, the idea is not bad and expectations from this movie start to rise. You wait for something to happen and here it is around the corner, it's just about to happen, and you wait a bit more, and here come end credits and question why did they even make this... The film literally has just 90 minutes long introduction and end credits. I watched it because I love J.G.L. but this movie is a real crap. I saw a comment somewhere, something like... J.G.L. yearns for a macho part his whole life and, as no one offered him such, he decided to make his own movie where he can be hotshot. So he did. And he did it badly. And how did he succeed to persuade phenomenal Julianne Moore to take part in this crap remains secret...
5/10 - DirectorAnne FontaineStarsNaomi WattsRobin WrightXavier SamuelA pair of childhood friends and neighbors fall for each other's sons.Motherfuckers
If I should compare it to another movie... the first choice would be "Brokeback Mountain". Not as much in the story itself, as in the depth of the emotion it conveys. For a decade I was refusing to watch the movie about homosexuals, and when I finally saw it I rated it 10/10. This is the similar case. When people hear what it's about prejudices make them avoid it, but this disgust on such topics is quite hypocritical. None of us is without sin, and this film is superb.

Jarmusch, inviolable master of slow psychedelic movies. If you do not like slow movies do not even try to watch this, because there's virtually no plot at all. The movie is based on the characterization of the protagonists, building of heavy atmosphere and it is visually fantastic. Although it technically falls within the vampire/fantasy genre, the movie does not have any of its characteristics. Tilda and Tom for two hours became an old married couple of vampires that will make you forget that vampires are just the fruit of the imagination and experience this movie as exceptionally realistic drama. Of course, Jarmusch wouldn't be Jarmusch if great psychedelic music didn't follow the whole story.

One of the deepest and most beautiful stories about love and the essence of being human. A story that triggers romantic emotions and frightening thoughts about what we became and what is waiting for us around the corner. Scarlett Johansson's talent was always in the shadow of her beauty, but here she finally gets the chance to show her true talent by acting only with her voice and not appearing in flesh at all. But still, she manages to be beautiful and sexy. And one of the most fairly earned Oscars lately goes to writer and director Spike Jonze. This is a true masterpiece. Good directing and acting, beautiful music, and movie that will fill your heart and that you won't easily forget.

A woman who is approaching her thirties and still doesn't know what she wants from life (like most of us, I would say), accidentally meets a teenager and uses her to escape responsibility, at least for a short time. A romantic comedy elevated from mediocrity by a rather realistic depiction of the mental state that most of us go through at some point in our lives. Some go through it maturely and responsibly, even painlessly, but many bring themselves into tragicomic situations as the heroine of this film. Partly because I found myself in this story to some extent, and partly because of Keira Knightley and Chloë Grace Moretz, I have to rate it at least a little higher than it objectively deserves.

Why the hell does this movie have such a low rating? Ok, it isn't a masterpiece of cinema, but they didn't intend it to be. It was made to make us laugh and I laughed a lot. For its artistic value even 6 is too much, but as a comedy it deserves at least

Labeling this film as a horror will lead you to the wrong expectations. It is a romantic drama with a Lovecraftian premise and atmosphere. The movie follows the development of the relationship between a young man and a young woman and the essential life decisions they have to make. The main feature of it is the spontaneity of their relationship and realistic dialogues, spiced with casual humor. The movie overall looks and develops naturally, as if we were watching footage from last year's summer vacation. The culmination brings more dramatic and quite creepy moments, but it doesn't make this movie even remotely horror, it only adds strength to a love story.
"Spring" is not for gentle sweethearts crying to romantic melodramas, nor for hardened horror fans. But if you have a little of both, and especially if you are a fan of Lovecraft's style, I warmly recommend this hidden gem.

Warning: Spoilers
I've heard so much glorification of this movie, that I was eager to watch it as soon as possible and enjoy its magnificence, but then... disappointment on many levels. To be clear, this movie is not crap, but it's just slightly different from high budget South-American soap opera with Hollywood production.
Acting is satisfying, scenery and landscapes are sometimes breathtaking and production is on the level. That would be all I can commend.
Story... This movie doesn't have "o" of originality and it is predictable from the opening scene to ending credits. There's no single surprise or twist. Everything in it has been already seen and thoroughly verified Hollywood clichés are carefully wrapped in decorative paper.
Will is a successful businessman from a wealthy family who ends up in a wheelchair after a traffic accident. On that fateful day, he would go to work on a motorbike, but his wealthy and beautiful blonde stops him. The same second he gave up on his motorbike I was sure what will happen next. While he was crossing the street on his foot he was hit by, you won't believe this, motorbike. Of course, in this type of story, the one in a wheelchair is usually male and rich and he hires someone poor to care for him. In the beginning, he is cold and grumpy, but in time he starts to show his warmer side. Am I the only one who saw "The Intouchables" ?! Slight touch of "Beauty and the Beast" maybe ?! Though here we have a poor girl that gave up on higher education to take care of her family, instead of a black petty criminal. She irresistibly reminds me of "Ugly Betty"...
Will's relationship with his blonde falls apart after the accident and she marries his best friend. His new caretaker is seven years in a relationship with egocentric sportsman until time with Will opens her eyes and she realizes she is not happy, so she falls in love with Will. The author is trying to catch us on cheap pathetic...
Characterization is lousy. We see two-dimensional characters who are not well developed, not even close. How did Will win her love ?! What is that she falls for ?! Fact that he is good looking and rich ?! I doubt the author had the intention to send that message, but except for his looks and money, we see no other positive sides of Will. She gets money from his parents and organizes luxury dates and travels in an attempt to awake desire to live in Will... or maybe she provides herself a chance to experience things she could only dream about before she got access to his money... I understand what the author wanted to present, but also I cannot stop myself from seeing what's obvious. I did not make up any of this. I just point out the obvious.
They go out, they travel exotic destinations, they fall in love. Will has a good time with his new girl, she loves him unconditionally, he is offered to get back to his job, his family provides full support, and he is rich. But that's not worth living and he decides he should kill himself. Yes, he planned this way before he met her, but not even love of his life can change his decision. What message does it send to us ?!
That people with disabilities are useless, a dead burden to their surroundings, that they have nothing to give, professionally or emotionally, that good job, supporting family and true love are not worth living for ?! Somehow Stephen Hawking pops up in my mind...
Sure, no one can stop you from killing yourself, but having a health institution to help you ?! If you are in continuous unbearable pain and your life comes down just to pure survival in endless agony... then maybe.
But let's ignore moral dilemmas and stay in limits of this movie. If you already decided to kill yourself and nothing, not even true love, can make you change your mind, why the hell did you mislead innocent girl, give her false hope and broke her long term relationship, just to make her sucker at the end and leave her emotionally destroyed... That seems selfish and cruel to me.
At the wedding, on the dance floor, he openly admitted that before his accident he would never notice a girl like her, let alone fell in love with her. And after the accident, his life is so worthless that even their true love is not worth living. Somewhere I saw that perfectly put in one sentence. "I cannot live and love you because I refuse to live and love as any other man than the man I was; however, if I were the man I was, I would not have loved you." But she does not mind.
And so on, they fall in love, the time has come to go, she gives up her believing and needs and escorts him on the last voyage. The movie ends with an epilogue. He is dead and he left her with a fat bank account (and she did not even have to get married) and a letter that sends her to Paris, his favorite place on Earth, with detailed instructions where to go and what to look for. "P.S. I Love You"... anyone ?!
Don't get me wrong, the movie is more than watchable. After reading my review you would probably think that 6/10 is too high. But if you avoid analyzing, just grab your popcorn and sit comfortably on your sofa to watch the screen with half a brain, you will enjoy two hours of stereotyped Hollywood romantic drama, and maybe it will even make you laugh or cry once or twice...

This movie is an adaptation of the story from mid 18th century written by Jeanne-Marie Leprince de Beaumont. The original story is completely different and I prefer it to Disney's version, but I understand why did they have to take a totally different approach and I admit that the result is amazing. Still, I recommend you to read the original text because it will shine a new light on the story and give you insight in its depth and true meaning. Disney's movie is meaningful, but it's mostly just a fairy- tale, while the original has a much heavier background. This is the very first animated movie nominated for an Academy Award for the best picture. It didn't win it, but it won two other Oscars, for the original score and the title song.

"Mallrats" is the second in line of ingenious achievements of Kevin Smith. Although with an almost identical cast, it is completely different than "Clerks" and it's hard to decide which one is better. But this one is definitely funnier. I like this movie so much that even Shannen Doherty, whom I cannot stand, becomes lovable in it. It is smart, witty, entertaining, with a bunch of great actors and unforgettable quotes. Jay and Silent Bob, from supporting role, come closer to the first team and you simply have to love them. After this, you cannot wait to see them again in the next movie. I want to rate it 10/10, but I have to at least try to maintain a certain level of objectivity, because this definitely isn't one of the best movies in the history of cinematography. But it is one of the dearests for sure.

This movie was on my watch-list only because Johnny Depp was in it. It turned out that his character, although the whole story rotates about him, shows up for just a few minutes, but instead I was pleasantly surprised with the excellent cast. I never saw Toni Collette before, but she was awesome carrying her role and basically the whole movie. And if I knew that Ryan Eggold is one of the main actors this movie would be on my watch-list even if there was no Johnny Depp.
This is slow and easy emotional drama about rock reporter whose career withers away and who gets the assignment to write an article about the popular musician who went missing decade ago, leaving behind his career and her, his long-term girlfriend. While it was generally accepted that he committed suicide, his body was never found and she has several reasons to believe he is still somewhere out there. Accompanied by another ex-boyfriend, who wants to shot a documentary about the whole thing, she begins the quest to find him. While searching for answers for her article, in the process she explores her own past, her emotions and meaning of own life. At the end she finds not exactly what she was searching for, but what she needed to take back control over her own life and future. This is not a cinematographic masterpiece, but it is a warm human story in which we can all find parts of ourselves, cause every one of us, at least once in our lives, had some part of our past dragged along for too long.

After only few minutes I was at the edge of giving up o it. Movie is black and white, really slow, about ballerina and I'm allergic to ballet, and on top of it all it's Bergman who is known to be boring. I'm against prejudice, but mostly unaware how much I'm susceptible to it. Exactly what I specified as reasons to write off this movie as unwatchable makes it a masterpiece. You just have to relax, give over to it, reject pre-formed thoughts and enjoy art. The moment I stopped hating it movie enchanted me. After rehearsal is delayed for the evening, ballerina goes to stroll around nearby island where she spent summer as young girl and fell in love for the first time. She just visits spots from her past and remembers. Story is simple and slow, but strong and deep. Acting is unbelievably emotional. Camera and directing are fantastic. I felt that authors gave special attention and love to every frame. Every cadre is masterpiece of black and white photography. In last few decades life speeds up more and more and cinematography follows. Today's generations are trained to watch complicated thrillers, extreme sex and violence, cheap humor, sitcom romance and stories that move in speed of light. Film more and more becomes cheap entertainment without meaning. Movies like this one are here to remind us why is cinematography considered one of arts.

Just opening part, that prepares us for main plot, could be movie on its own. It may be to much to make series out of this, but there is certainly enough material for at least two movies. They should've developed opening part further until they end up with two parts movie, first part taking place in the world of living and second part about adventures of our main character after he dies. This way, lasting less than two hours, first part is too hasty and sketchy, putting us right into main plot unprepared, without enough background. Potential masterpiece restricted to good, but not great film.

Sometimes it happens that sequel is on a level with original, but to be better is really rare. This is one of those exceptions. Although it is far from being masterpiece, it is far better than 3 Men and a Baby. Humor is this time actually funny and emotional scenes good enough to cause tear or two. Nancy Travis has very little screen time in first movie, but here she got a chance to show off. Instead of baby from first movie who was just cute, now we have Robin Weisman who's cute too, but also great in playing well written role. Adventure that, in very vulgar and explicit way, makes fun of racial, political, sexist, homophobic and every other stereotype you could possible think of, alluding or directly spoofing celebrities, famous events, movies, music. I think it is impossible to catch all layers and details of this movie in just one watching. Technically it's nothing special, but story is good enough to make everything else negligible. Even the worst scenes are fun, and those best and most shocking I had to rewind and re-watch several times, not being able to believe my own eyes and ears. Essentially, this is classic romance comedy, but wrapped in completely unusual package. Politically incorrect, vulgar, perverse, and most of all fun. I'm sorry I didn't see it back when it was released, cause I would know it by heart by now. Roommates and best friends since childhood, Zack and Miri, have seemingly hopeless financial troubles, so they decide to get back on their feet by making a porno. I have the impression that I've watched an introductory episode of a series rather than a complete rounded movie. Song "Colors of the Wind" may have earned the Oscar that year (I do not know what was its competition), but music as a whole is below Disney's level. 14 May 2017
"Trailers are notorious in over-promising for movies that under-deliver. But every now and then, one pops up that does the opposite. The trailer for Table 19 (2017) gives the impression of a lightweight romantic comedy with a touch of slapstick, all framed around a wedding. Despite being critically panned by many, there is more to this unexpectedly entertaining low-profile film than meets the eye.
The heroine is Eloise (Anna Kendrick) who, against her better judgement, accepts a wedding invitation knowing she is persona non-grata with the bridal party. She was recently dumped by the bride's brother, who is now the best man, and she is suddenly no longer the bride's best friend. She was the chief helper with the reception planning and knows who is at every table and why they are here. Her companions on Table 19 comprise a lovable granny-type, two oddballs, and a quarrelling married couple. They were all expected to decline their invitation but still send a gift, and that alone is a recipe for humour and satire. Their distance from the bridal table and proximity to the toilets quickly establishes their lowly social status and the comic sketches play on social awkwardness. The thread of continuity is through Eloise and her manhunts. The standard sit-com one-liners and the obligatory near-catastrophe with a wedding cake are neither original nor particularly funny, but the situation develops a warm emotional undercurrent that is unexpectedly touching.
One of the interesting things about this film is the difference between its plot and story. The plot is standard wedding reception comedy which laughs at the marginalisation of unwanted guests. On the other hand, the story explores why the Table 19'ers are together. It offers insight into their lives, their personalities, and the emotional hurt caused by being placed on the social fringe. The best part of the film is when the offended "randoms" leave the reception for a while to console each other. Through flashbacks we get the back-story to their invitations which range from pathetic to comic. For example, the granny-type really believed she was invited because the bride fondly remembered her first baby-sitter, but the bride barely knows who she is. There is also a wannabe trying to lose his virginity, a weird guy straight out of prison, and a couple who are far from an inspiring example of a loving marriage.
Anna Kendrick plays the perfect balance between awkward, aggrieved, and aggressive, and the randoms are standard comic stereotypes. But while our eyes are on Elosie, the warmth of the story come from her table companions. The gags are at snicker level rather than belly laughs and the cinematography is colourful and cluttered as wedding receptions often are. There is no shortage of embarrassing moments as Eloise stalks her men, both old and new, and the final scenes rise through melodrama to operatic farce. But this film offers a fresh take on standard rom-com themes in amusing and entertaining ways . and it might make you think twice if you need to create a seating plan."

But after he falls in love with a dance instructor, Lucky'll do anything to keep from earning the bucks.Have you ever seen a bad romantic musical comedy from the first half of the twentieth century ?! I haven't. Although many resemble one another, and after a while they melt together in my memory, they all carry joy of life that in the decades that follow slowly disappears from movies, and today it's almost nowhere to find. Among them stand out mutual films of Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire. Ginger's beauty is breathtaking and their mutual chemistry is magical. Story is light and fun, music and dance as always great, but although I really liked it, it did not particularly stand out from the masses of similar ones, and it's far below, for example, Top Hat. I have yet to mention, in my opinion, the best scene in the movie, where Astaire is followed by three huge dancing shadows. Joyful recommendation.
7/10 - DirectorEdgar WrightStarsMichael CeraMary Elizabeth WinsteadKieran CulkinIn a magically realistic version of Toronto, a young man must defeat his new girlfriend's seven evil exes one by one in order to win her heart. This is, so far, probably the best Edgar Wright's movie. However, I still have to look at his debut "A Fistful of Fingers", but I doubt it can even be compared with this. Scott Pilgrim is a twenty-two year old boy with a serious lack of confidence, who dates a 17-year-old student and falls in love with a girl with a complicated emotional past. He has to find the strength to break up with the kid and defeat the seven exes of his new girl. Instead of boring or pathetic love drama, this film Scott's overcoming his own insecurity and girl's emotional luggage displays in the form of fights in the style of "Mortal Combat". Whole movie was made in a combination of video game and comic-book style. Acting and music are good, and the camera, direction and editing will make your head spin. In this action romantic comedy, Wright once again shows his skill and genius.

"Under the Sea" is, without a competition, the most catchy Disney song ever and it totally deserved Oscar it won. "Kiss the Girl" was also nominated, and when two songs from the same movie compete for the same Oscar it's clear how great this soundtrack is. The most beautiful and the most romantic Disney animated flick, with the most singable and catchy songs. Every time I see it I feel like teenager in love.

Scene where she grabs his Coca-Cola, drinks it whole and burps is one of the cutest things I have ever seen. Although story isn't original and there's quite a lot of movies made about same topic, the way this one is done is more than beautiful. Acting and directing are excellent, but two and a half hours is really too much. Although I was not bored at any time, I had the impression that the film lasts for an entire eternity. Since the film is able to keep the attention of the audience, or at least mine, from the beginning to the end, the duration should not be a problem, but in my opinion this length is unnecessary for a particular story. If I watched it in the cinema, I doubt that I would endure to the end. And end... I fell apart... literally.

I watched it because it's considered to be one of the best movies of its time and because it won five Academy Awards, out of which I can understand only Oscar for Best Actress in a Supporting Role, won by Gloria Grahame. For everything else, nothing really special. Nice and relaxed melodrama, perfect for resting the brain on a lazy Sunday afternoon.

Jessica Barden and Alex Lawther perfectly portrayed two eccentric teenagers. The series has eight twenty-minute episodes and there was no way I could stop until I saw it through. I dare you to try.
8/10 - DirectorTerrence MalickStarsMartin SheenSissy SpacekWarren OatesAn impressionable teenage girl from a dead-end town, and her older greaser boyfriend, embark on a killing spree in the South Dakota Badlands.Violent poetry
It's hard to believe this is Malick's directorial debut. The movie is slow-paced, so a modern audience accustomed to today's blockbusters might find it boring, but real lovers of the seventh art will enjoy a story well-written and even better-shot. The camera and directing are great, and music perfectly follows. Although story is similar to "Bonnie and Clyde" or "Natural Born Killers", this isn't crime action movie. There's no suspension and excitement, violence isn't shocking and movie won't make you root for or against its characters. Bloody trail that a young couple leaves behind seems somehow natural and casual, while the emphasis is on their personalities, mutual relationship and their views on life. I'm not a fan of Martin Sheen, although I have no objections, but Holly, which is only the second role of Sissy Spacek, stands side by side with legendary Carrie. Still, I would not agree with the view that this is one of the best movies of all time. Great it is, but I'm not amazed.
8/10 - DirectorStephen SommersStarsJason Scott LeeCary ElwesLena HeadeyRudyard Kipling's classic tale of Mowgli, the orphaned jungle boy raised by wild animals, and how he becomes king of the jungle."The more I learn what is a man, the more I want to be an animal."
I will not participate in the internet debate whether this film is better or worse than the animated "The Jungle Book", because this is not an adaptation of a cartoon from 1967, but a completely different story, based on the same characters. While the cartoon follows the adventures of the boy Mowgli, surrounded by animals who think and speak as human beings, the feature film shows the adult Mowgli, and the animals are real animals, without attributing human traits, and Mowgli communicates with them in their "languages". I'm a bit surprised by the amount and the explicitity of violence, injury and death, since this is a Disney movie, which means it is primarily intended for children. Camera that zooms a man drowning and finally dying in quicksand isn't exactly a sight suitable for children. Jason Scott Lee is visually perfect choice and has played a great role. Of the more famous, there are Cersei Lannister and John Cleese, but the animals carry main role and the charm of this film. About 200 trained wild animals were used. For tiger scenes, only the most indispensable staff remained on the set and the blue screen was used, but many scenes with wildlife are completely authentic, which leaves a stronger impression than the best CGI. Although it tells another story, the film retains Kipling's spirit and respects the "law of the jungle": You can kill only to eat or to avoid being eaten.

However, when he fails to make a timely marriage proposal, Chelsea tries to make his life hell.(Un)romantic comedy
If you like romantic comedies, this almost certainly has been on your repertoire. If not, immediately correct this omission. If you don't like them, see this one and you'll change your mind. I don't know if I ever laughed so hard as when I first watched this movie.
Seth, young, successful and rich, enters a passionate affair with the beautiful and fiery Chelsea, not knowing that from the first moment her goal was marriage. In the first part of the movie she tries in all possible ways to make him propose, and when she realizes it might never happen she goes for hell of revenge. From the technical point of view, this film has nothing worth the attention, but the scenario is intelligent, witty and full of (un)expected twists, and French Stewart and Bridgette Wilson are perfect in their role of love-hate couple. To me, this is one of top 10 (un)romantic comedies of all time.

"Barfly" is a semi-autobiography of legendary Charles Bukowski, directed by Barbet Schroeder. Mickey Rourke and Faye Dunaway are fantastic in roles of Bukowski's alter-ego Henry Chinaski and his lover Wanda, two people with a soul, but soaked in alcohol. This, at times comical drama represents the bottom of society in all its glory. The movie does not have an original soundtrack, but most of the time characters listen to music in bars and on the radio. There are big names such as Booker T. & The M.G.s, The Nighthawks and John Coltrane, and at the initiative of Mickey Rourke, several pieces of great classical composers were included. There is no plot, culmination and denouement, but we look at a few days of bohemian life of Henry and Wanda, in a film where accent is not so much on the story as on the construction of the specific atmosphere. The main assets of this film are wacky, but essentially deep dialogues and the brilliant one-liners by Bukowski.

But he finds things have changed while he was gone, and he must once again prove himself important to the world.Visual effects do not lag behind Marvel's, but unlike Marvel, DC provides something more than an empty action. Besides the default fight of good and evil, "Superman" also brings a deep human drama, a struggle within, between what we want with all our heart and what we know is right. Frankly, I do not like Brandon Routh in leading role. Although I can not give objective criticism of his performance, subjectively he simply doesn't leave impression of Superman. He seem more like pussy than superhero, but it's probably just me. On the other hand, Kate Bosworth is so cute that I am not able to objectively evaluate her acting, and Kevin Spacey is perfect Lex Lutor, incomparably better than Hackman.

I wonder if introductory monologue sounds somewhat biblical to anyone else, as if trying to compare Superman to Jesus:
"Even though you've been raised as a human being, you are not one of them. They can be a great people. They wish to be. They only lack the light to show the way. For this reason above all, their capacity for good, I have sent them you, my only son." - DirectorMakoto ShinkaiStarsRyunosuke KamikiMone KamishiraishiRyo NaritaTwo teenagers share a profound, magical connection upon discovering they are swapping bodies. On these occasions, they have to live each other's day, trying not to cause problems to each other. They begin to find ways to communicate with each other to make all this easier to work out. What they have yet to understand is that the situation is much more complicated than it first appears, and that on two of them depends survival of many people. "The presidencies of Kennedy and Johnson, Vietnam, Watergate, and other history unfold through the perspective of an Alabama man with an IQ of 75." says IMDb and I agree. This is the story about many things, but most of all, I think this movie is about the eternal question: What is the essence of life? And you don't need your whole life to find the answer. This two and a half hours could be quite satisfying.

I'm not one of those who think that fairy tales are for children only, moreover I like them very much. But this one is really just for kids. It's beautifully done, with, for its time, stunning visuals, nice soundtrack and good acting (as good as possible considering Tom Cruise in leading role), but, targeting mainly children, story is too linear and predictable and whole movie is too restrained for my taste. The strongest impression on me left makeup of fairy tale creatures, especially Tim Curry as Darkness. For these masks, this movie deserved the Oscar, not only the nomination.

This lovely melodrama has a fair story and acting, and on the technical side it is quite decent. Although I do not like Patrick Swayze, and I consider Jennifer Grey to be a bit on the ugly side, their chemistry is incredibly addictive, but the main advantages of this flick are great music, for which it won an Oscar, and a lot of erotic dance. Objectively, the film is about a six, but due to awesome music and the powerful emotion it evokes, it has become a cult hit, especially among the women. Thanks to my sister, who's crazy about this movie ever since she was a kid, I saw it countless times, and I must admit that it got under my skin. I was never bored watching it and I never managed to see it through without crying.

Alex Truelove is an intelligent and successful high school student who finds "the right girl", but even after eight months of the relationship, they still didn't have sex. Sex is prevented by his struggle with fear and insecurity, because, you will not believe this, he's gay. Since the film is intended as a comedy, his gradual realization that he was homosexual and his behavior towards his girlfriend and friends are developing in the worst possible way. He acts like a total jerk and hurts people closest to him completely unnecessarily, but of course, everyone forgives him and the film has a happy ending. The story is unrealistic and poorly written, the humor is based on transfers of embarrassment, and the end is so over-the-top that it additionally destroyed already a mediocre movie. The film is too dramatic for comedy, and too frivolous for the drama, as if the authors could not agree on what they really wanted to achieve, so they were lost in the process. The result is a movie that, apart from a couple of really hilarious moments and decent acting, has nothing to offer. I suggest you to skip it.

The third in a series of films about the gendarmes of Saint Tropez is also failing to keep up with the first, but it is better than the second and a decent choice when you want to rest your brain. The same team continues in the same manner and if you do not expect too much you will not be disappointed. I liked the comparison that I found in one of the reviews for this film, where the crazy nun, who in every movie appears at the right time to give a lift to Cruchot, is compared to Sandra Bullock in "Speed".
