Do You Remember These? Overlooked Movies, Flops, Forgotten Films: Good, Bad, and Beyond
My opinion, but time hasn't been kind to a few of these, but many are still worth seeing at least once. Not all! If it weren't for cable networks and readily available sources online they might slip into oblivion. Well, a few might be better forgotten! If not entirely relegated, many are lesser known to the public today. l have seen all of the films listed though some it's been ages. Some I enjoyed more than others, a few I own, others I'm neutral about. Most(if not all) are available in some form(even via IMDB) so are by no means obscure films no ones ever heard about. They are in the time capsule, for sure!

- DirectorJack FiskStarsSissy SpacekEric RobertsSam ShepardA divorcee with two sons has an affair with a young sailor passing through her Texas town in 1944.I own this--love the romance between the traveling sailor and Sissy's character but the ending seems out of sync with the rest of the film.
- DirectorRon MaxwellStarsTatum O'NealKristy McNicholArmand AssanteTwo fifteen-year-old girls from different sides of the tracks compete to see who will be the first to lose their virginity while at a summer camp.Yikes!
- DirectorMichael PateStarsPiper LaurieMel GibsonAlwyn KurtsA somewhat mentally handicapped 20-year-old man works as a laborer, but everyone abuses his naiveté. A nice 40-year-old American woman hires him one day and they become close. However, the town and his family see her as predatory.
- DirectorMartha CoolidgeStarsLaura DernRobert DuvallDiane LaddA young woman who exudes sexuality battles temptation. It has one very controversial scene--parents beware. I do like this film because it's set in the past. Movies with historical settings are often my favorites.
- DirectorJohn GuillerminStarsMelvyn DouglasPatricia GozziDean StockwellAgnes, a lonely teenage girl, and her father befriend an escaped convict, named Joseph, who arrives at their farm in Brittany, France. When Joseph develops an attraction to Agnes, her father threatens to break up the union.I absolutely adore this movie. I saw it on Directv many many moons ago, and it appears to only be available on blu-ray, which frustrates me. I want to see it again! Starring a very young Dean Stockwell, my lovable fave, Al, from Quantum Leap.
- DirectorJohn BoormanStarsPowers BootheMeg FosterYara VaneauAfter the son of engineer Bill Markham is abducted by an aboriginal tribe on the edge of the rain forest, the engineer spends the next 10 years searching for him.
- DirectorMonte HellmanStarsJames TaylorWarren OatesLaurie BirdWhile drag-racing through the American Southwest in a Chevrolet 150, a driver and his mechanic cross paths with an enigmatic hitchhiker and the tall-tale-spinning driver of a GTO.No plot, no back round track, sparse dialouge. This movie literally put me to sleep by the time the cars started racing, but I'm sure it's a cult favorite with men. After all, an ex introduced me to this.
- DirectorPeter WeirStarsHarrison FordHelen MirrenRiver PhoenixAn inventor spurns his city life and moves his family into the jungles of Central America to make a utopia.Flop in its day, I believe. It's actually not a bad film.
- DirectorJonathan KaplanStarsKurt RussellRay LiottaMadeleine StoweA burglar holds a knife to Karen's throat while her husband does nothing. The couple ends up befriending the cop that comes. The friendship ends when the cop beats up the culprit. Karen isn't ready to end it. Things get ugly with the cop. This was lost in the shuffle. I saw this when I was a teenager and really liked it. Saw it again a few years ago--still liked it, even if the ending was so 90s...
- DirectorMax Baer Jr.StarsRobby BensonGlynnis O'ConnorJoan HotchkisIn 1950s Mississippi, teenager Bobbie Lee Hartley navigates her blossoming hormones as she is courted by Billy Joe McAllister, who is headed for tragedy. The ending seems silly and unbelievable. The whole pregnancy bit. A tragic film that shows its age for obvious reasons.
- DirectorLarry PeerceStarsBarbara BarrieBernie HamiltonRichard MulliganIn his wanderlust, Joe Cullen moves from the US to South America to work in a mining camp, he leaving behind his wife Julie and their infant daughter, Ellen Mary. After Joe stops writing and sending money, Julie, not expecting Joe ever to return to her in he being dissatisfied with married life, files for divorce, and moves with Ellen Mary to the town of Howard to start life anew working in the payroll department of Howard Factory. Among the people she meets and befriends in Howard is coworker Frank Richards, the friendship with him which slowly but eventually blossoms into romance. Despite some opposition from his parents, especially his father, Frank and Julie get married, Frank, in the process, becoming the only father that Ellen Mary has really ever known, a loving one at that. After Julie and Frank have a child of their own, William so named after his father, Joe, four years after his departure, returns solely wanting to reestablish a relationship of sorts with now adolescent Ellen Mary. After Joe sees Julie's new life, he changes his want from that relationship with Ellen Mary to suing for full custody. The sole issue, originally with William's Sr.'s objection to the marriage, and to Joe's want for full custody, is that Julie and Joe, and thus by association Ellen Mary, are white, while Frank is black.Amazing!
- DirectorFrank LaLoggiaStarsLukas HaasLen CariouAlex RoccoAn author tells the story of how, as a young boy growing up in a 1960s small town, he was haunted after witnessing the murder of a little girl. This one's in my collection. The killer seems too obvious though!

- DirectorRobert WiemerStarsPernell RobertsEddie CastrodadMilla JovovichA young girl leaves for Nepal with her parents and brother. She is unhappy to leave her home at first, but soon isn't when she meets a handome young man. The story unfolds into a romantic and daring quest in search of the "Invisible City."A long forgotten tv movie. That's Milla Javovich in an early roll. It's rather obscure these days, so it seems, as most TV movies go.
- DirectorMary Agnes DonoghueStarsMelanie GriffithDon JohnsonElijah WoodMelanie Griffith and Don Johnson (at the time married to each other) play Lily and Ben Reed, a young couple torn apart by a family tragedy. It would take a miracle to rekindle their love and a miracle arrives in the form of a summer guest - Willard Young played by Elijah Wood.I remember this was touching back when I watched it as a teenager. It slipped into oblivion like most of Melanie Griffith's work.
- DirectorBill ForsythStarsChristine LahtiSara WalkerAndrea BurchillAfter their mother commits suicide, two sisters end up living with their kind but peculiar aunt in their grandmother's old house in a small 1950s town.Love this! Fine acting, unique storyline, memorable characters. I feel bad for the niece who takes to the lead character though. Not a good life for a young girl
- DirectorMichael Caton-JonesStarsRobert De NiroLeonardo DiCaprioEllen BarkinThe story about the relationship between a rebellious 1950s teenager and his abusive stepfather, based on the memoirs of writer and literature Professor Tobias Wolff.Has this been forgotten? - DirectorHugh HudsonStarsChristopher LambertAndie MacDowellRalph RichardsonA missing heir of respected Scottish family, raised in African jungles by animals, finally returns to his estate only to realize that difference between the two worlds is really significant. One of the more notable films of 1984 is seldom mentioned today.
