The Greatest Action Movies of All Time
Got bored so decided to put together and make a comprehensive list of the finest Action Movies throughout the ages. It's easy to find the films but actually hard to rank them. I'm going for what I FEEL are the best and enjoyed most.
Also, some films are hard to determine if they are "Action" films. Like The Avengers or The Dark Knight... LOOOOTS of action but should they be on this list of "Action Movies"? What about Mad Max? Should Star Wars be on this list? Everybody would agree on Die Hard but one could say it's a cop movie as well... So that alone is actually pretty hard when coming up with a list.

Whereas BU ends in NY. Yay. Continuity survives throughout this list. This is one of the first action films, COP action films. Won Best Picture and deserves it! I think teh standout action scene is the one with the poster. Starts with Gene Hackman walking down the street and then BANG! a sniper almost gets him. I think a lady gets shot instead, hurt? maybe even dead. Carrying a baby. Then a great chase scene happens. Hackman's character as a flawed but obsessed cop is great. The ending fits

There's a lot of emotion in this movie. You get the pain Rambo is going through and the ending... wow, Stallone gave a fantastic performance. I think it's actually the emotional parts of this movie and the character makes the movie Badass.

Crazy action back then and still crazy now. Mixture of great sets, suspense, stuntwork, and car work.

One of the best modern action movies next to The Dark Knight, Ultimatum, and The Raid. All very revolutionary films when it comes to action.

I dunno... just feel like the list would feel incomplete without The Avengers. It's a Superhero movie that set Superhero action like never before. I think Civil War did it better but Civil War wouldn't be as good without The Avengers and Whedon. It was like watching live action and CG version of comic book action come to life. Would've been impossible to make in another generation.

But Nolan takes a step further from TDK this time by incorporating great editting to juxtapose the levels and tell a story through the action this way.

At the time it was probably too violent for the general audience but it opened up a whole new world of violence and action for filmmakers to exploit and use. Fast and explosive shootouts like never before with relentless violence.
Without this film, I doubt 90% of the movies on this list wouldn't be here. Great movie but doesn't seem like much purely as an action movie but keep in mind that it was made in the 60s and such shootouts were very uncommon back then. Violence was rare in films and not taken seriously. This film broke the rules by showing violence as something ugly and chaotic.
The ending shootout is more or less the Omaha Beach scene of its day. Showing the full ugliness of violence
