James Bond From Least to Personal Favorite
After going through a long James Bond marathon to watch the new film Skyfall, I can honestly say I can see why James Bond has lasted so long. He's the ultimate fantasy character. Rivaled by men who long to be just like him. But as the series has been going on for fifty years now, Bond is going to run into a few blunders. These are my picks for the best and worst Bond films. This is all my opinion and what I say isn't fact at all. If you like a movie I hate that's perfectly fine and I won't attack you for your opinion. Well let's get to it. From least favorite to all time favorite, this is my list of the James Bond films.

- DirectorLee TamahoriStarsPierce BrosnanHalle BerryRosamund PikeJames Bond is sent to investigate the connection between a North Korean terrorist and a diamond mogul, who is funding the development of an international space weapon.I hated this movie. That's just putting it short. I could go into detail on how much I loathe this film. The dialog is some of the worst in the series, the CGI is atrocious and the acting is just wooden. It has a few good parts, like John Cleese as Q, the villain is enjoyably hammy but whatever good the film has is buried under clunky action scenes, bland characters and references to past Bond films that make you want to watch them rather than this film. For me this is the worst Bond film hands down.
- DirectorLewis GilbertStarsRoger MooreLois ChilesMichael LonsdaleJames Bond investigates the mid-air theft of a space shuttle, and discovers a plot to commit global genocide. This probably comes as no surprise. Moonraker is near the bottom of the list for a lot of Bond lists if not THE bottom. But Moonraker does have things going for it. The first half of the film is relatively okay with the opening scene being one of the best in the series, but it starts getting ridiculous once Jaws is reintroduced and all his evil characteristics are replaced by Wile E. Coyote slapstick. On top of that the plot is pretty ridiculous, the main love interest is boring and wooden, and it just doesn't deliver when compared to The Spy Who Loved Me which came before. It's not Die Another Day bad but it's still pretty bad on its own.
- DirectorJohn GlenStarsRoger MooreChristopher WalkenTanya RobertsThe recovery of a microchip from the body of a fellow British secret agent leads James Bond to mad industrialist Max Zorin, who is scheming to cause massive destruction. This is where Moore ran his course as Bond. He's way too visibly old at this point to be wooing girls half his age. The film has pretty poor action scenes, a lackluster plot and a love interest that makes me want to shoot my ears off. The one saving grace is Christopher Walken's performance as the main villain. He gives a hammy and affably evil performance you'd come to expect not just from Walken but from a Bond villain in general. It's worth watching just for Walken but there's not much else there.
- DirectorGuy HamiltonStarsRoger MooreChristopher LeeBritt EklandJames Bond is targeted by the world's most expensive assassin, while he attempts to recover sensitive solar cell technology that is being sold to the highest bidder.A part of me really wanted to like this movie. For one thing it has Christopher Lee, my all time favorite actor, as a Bond villain. But the campy style that director Guy Hamilton put into this film, and the last two he directed, really got old by this time. Roger Moore has yet to find his voice as Bond and often gets overshadowed by some of the supporting cast. The love interest in this one has moments but doesn't really step out into memorable status like some of the early Bond girls. If nothing else the film does have one of the most memorable villains in Francisco Scaramanga who plays a sophisticated assassin mirroring Bond in a twisted way. The final duel between them is also pretty intense. All in all, there's some stuff to like but not a lot to love. And really, did they have to bring back that annoying racist sheriff from Live and Let Die?
- DirectorGuy HamiltonStarsRoger MooreYaphet KottoJane SeymourJames Bond is sent to stop a diabolically brilliant heroin magnate armed with a complex organisation and a reliable psychic tarot card reader.Roger Moore's debut as Bond left a lot to be desired. For one thing the focus is more on the villain's rather than Bond himself. And the plot tries to bring in some supernatural elements that were not dealt with in previous films but it's overshadowed by the questionable by today's standards portrayal of Black people. The film does deliver with its villains, Baron Samedi and Tee Hee being some of the more memorable of the Bond henchmen, and the titular song is the best Bond theme in my opinion. But it lags a lot in certain places like the speed boat chase scene, and it seems like it runs longer than it should. Not terrible but not great either.
- DirectorLewis GilbertStarsSean ConneryAkiko WakabayashiMie HamaJames Bond and the Japanese Secret Service must find and stop the true culprit of a series of space hijackings, before war is provoked between Russia and the United States. In comparison to the other Sean Connery films this one for me is the least memorable. It has great parts and great characters but when you compare it to Dr. No or any other early Bond film I just don't think it holds up that well. The final fight in Blofeld's lair is well done, there's also some great hand to hand fights but for me this is the weakest Connery film. I don't hate it, I just don't love it either.
- DirectorMarc ForsterStarsDaniel CraigOlga KurylenkoMathieu AmalricJames Bond tries to stop an organisation from eliminating a country's most valuable resource.I didn't hate Quantum of Solace. I thought it had a lot of great moments. But overall it just seems like they left a lot of threads in the plot unresolved. Mr. White whom Bond's focus is on for most of the film disappears half way through, and there's just a lot moments where the plot seems to drag unnecessarily long. This film isn't bad in my opinion it just leaves a lot to be desired.
- DirectorMichael AptedStarsPierce BrosnanSophie MarceauRobert CarlyleJames Bond uncovers a nuclear plot while protecting an oil heiress from her former kidnapper, an international terrorist who can't feel pain. The World is Not Enough is ultimately held back by the bland love interest and the under use of its villain. Renard was built up to be one of Bond's toughest enemies. He has no sense of pain so how can he beaten? But he's barely used in the film except for three major scenes. The reveal of the film's real major villain is great though, so I won't even dare spoil it here. The love interest is also one of those cases where it was style over substance. I find in the Brosnan films they tried too hard to make the Bond girls his equal and took out any form of likability in them. Christmas Jones is a prime example (behind maybe Jinx from Die Another Day). She and Bond have very little chemistry, she doesn't look like a scientist at all and I barely remember her character at all. But still this film has great action, some pretty good twists, and a cast that gives it their all. It's also worth watching to witness Desmond Llewelyn's final performance as Q.
- DirectorJohn GlenStarsRoger MooreMaud AdamsLouis JourdanA fake Fabergé egg recovered from the body of a fellow agent leads James Bond to uncover a jewel smuggling operation led by the mysterious Octopussy, and a plot to blow up a NATO air base. This film divides a lot of fans but I found myself actually liking it. It has a lot of problems, like Bond dressing up as clown and yelling like Tarzan, but it just has the feel of a good old fashioned spy action flick. It's not entirely memorable compared to other Bond films but it does deliver in certain parts. The climax at the end is especially thrilling. It won't please everyone but I liked it all the same.
- DirectorJohn GlenStarsRoger MooreCarole BouquetTopolSecret service agent James Bond is assigned to find a missing British vessel equipped with a weapons encryption device and prevent it from falling into enemy hands. This film is actually quite good. The acting is great, the action is well done and there's nothing in it that feels out of place for a Bond film. But for some reason or another the film doesn't have a lot of staying power. Perhaps it's because the main villain isn't all that memorable or the Bond girl and Bond barely share a love scene before the end but something about it keeps it from ranking higher on my list. It's a good film and worth watching but it probably won't make the top on a lot of lists for 007.
- DirectorGuy HamiltonStarsSean ConneryJill St. JohnCharles GrayA diamond smuggling investigation leads James Bond to Las Vegas where he uncovers an evil plot involving a rich business tycoon. This is where Bond started to fall into a bit of a campy rut that lasted until The Spy Who Loved Me. But to be fair in this film it's not as bad. At least to me it isn't. There's some groan inducing jokes, some poor villains, but there's still a lot to like in this outing. The action is still great (with one fight scene in an elevator being one of the best), Connery delivers his classic Bond for the last time (officially) and it's just a mindless action flick that isn't really trying to be the best Bond film. To some it may be terrible but to me it's one of the more enjoyable campy Bond films.
- DirectorTerence YoungStarsSean ConneryClaudine AugerAdolfo CeliJames Bond heads to the Bahamas to recover two nuclear warheads stolen by S.P.E.C.T.R.E. Agent Emilio Largo in an international extortion scheme.Thunderball has all the elements of classic Bond. Sean Connery is just as snarky as ever, the action is fierce (especially in the opening scene) and the plot is easy to follow in comparison to some other plots these larger than life villain's concoct. The thing that doesn't list it high on my list is the pacing. Sometimes it's fast moving and other times (like the climax) it takes way too long. I feel if they had edited it just a little better I might like it a bit more. But as it is Thunderball is still a good Bond movie.
- DirectorRoger SpottiswoodeStarsPierce BrosnanJonathan PryceMichelle YeohJames Bond sets out to stop a media mogul's plan to induce a war between China and the United Kingdom.Truth be told this film was actually really enjoyable. Not as strong as GoldenEye sure but it has some great moments. The scene with the car in the parking garage is probably one of the best action scenes in a Bond film and there's plenty of other intense scenes throughout. But the villain is pretty weak and his plan is a little hard to believe even for a Bond film. But I liked it all the same. It's not the best Bond, in fact to some it may be the worst, but I liked it.
- DirectorJohn GlenStarsTimothy DaltonMaryam d'AboJeroen KrabbéJames Bond is sent to investigate a KGB policy to kill all enemy spies, and uncovers an arms deal that potentially has major global ramifications.Timothy Dalton is quite the underrated Bond. His down to earth performance laid the ground work for the newer Daniel Craig Bond films today. And The Living Daylights does its job of introducing a new Bond quite well. The climax on the plane stands out as one of the best climaxes of any Bond film. But the villains sadly aren't that memorable and the ending seems to go a bit longer than it should. But looking past that this is one of the better Bond films and shouldn't be overlooked by fans.
- DirectorTerence YoungStarsSean ConneryRobert ShawLotte LenyaJames Bond willingly falls into an assassination plot involving a naive Russian beauty in order to retrieve a Soviet encryption device that was stolen by the organization Spectre. This film feels more like an adventure film than a spy movie. And that's not bad at all. It takes Bond to a lot of exotic places in Europe and sets him up against one of the most iconic Bond villains ever (two counting Rosa Klebb). The spy elements are great, the Bond girl is iconic, and everything about this film is near perfection. The scene that everyone remembers is the intense fight between Bond and Red Grant in the train. It's one of the most brutal fights ever put on screen and really makes the film. However, I will say that after that fight it seems like this movie does take a while to finally end itself. From Russia With Love set the ground work for the many iconic Bond moments we know and love today. It's definitely worth a watch.
- DirectorTerence YoungStarsSean ConneryUrsula AndressBernard LeeA resourceful British government agent seeks answers in a case involving the disappearance of a colleague and the disruption of the American space program.Dr. No may feel a tad weird in comparison to the other Bond films but it's as much a classic today is it was then. Sean Connery proves no one else could play Bond for his first outing better and Ursula Andress plays the quintessential Bond girl. Dr. No himself is a great start to the long list of Bond villains. My only gripe is that the climax feels rushed and Dr. No isn't on screen that long. But through it all this is a great start to the James Bond franchise.
- DirectorPeter R. HuntStarsGeorge LazenbyDiana RiggTelly SavalasBritish agent James Bond goes undercover to pursue the villainous Ernst Stavro Blofeld, who is planning to hold the world to ransom.George Lazenby's only performance as James Bond proves to be one of the most memorable in the whole series. In this film we get a more human Bond who actually falls in love with a girl and plans on marrying her. But that doesn't mean Bond has lost his touch. This film has gripping action, a complex and intriguing plot and the way the new Blofeld and Bond play off each other is extremely well done. This film may divide some people but to me it's one of the best.
- DirectorJohn GlenStarsTimothy DaltonRobert DaviCarey LowellA vengeful James Bond goes rogue to infiltrate and take down the organization of a drug lord who has murdered his friend's new wife and left him near death.I was really surprised by this film. The idea of a gritty Bond is nothing new now but this film was the first time it was ever attempted. And what a success it was. Bond finds himself after a drug lord to avenge the death of his friend, Felix Leiter's, wife. The action is some of the best I've seen in a Bond movie and the climax kept me on the edge of my seat. The more realistic villain is also a refreshing element when the more ridiculous Bond villains become to much for you. I really enjoyed this film and almost wish Dalton had been in more Bond films.
- DirectorMartin CampbellStarsPierce BrosnanSean BeanIzabella ScorupcoWhen a powerful secret defense system is stolen, James Bond is assigned to stop a Russian crime syndicate from using it.Pierce Brosnan's debut as 007 is one of the best films in the whole series. The action is great, the acting is even better and the whole thing feels like your classic Bond movie. The rivalry between Bond and Trevelyan is also one of the best in the whole series. This film just gets everything right with Bond. Highly recommended.
- DirectorSam MendesStarsDaniel CraigJavier BardemNaomie HarrisJames Bond's loyalty to M is tested when her past comes back to haunt her. When MI6 comes under attack, 007 must track down and destroy the threat, no matter how personal the cost.James Bond certainly hasn't lost his touch after 50 years. Skyfall is a thrill ride from start to end. Judi Dench gives her all in her last performance as M, Raol Silva is a classic Bond villain, and it just brings everything great about the series into one film. It's a perfect film to celebrate the Bond series anniversary and makes me even more excited to see what's in store for James in the future.
- DirectorLewis GilbertStarsRoger MooreBarbara BachCurd JürgensJames Bond investigates the hijacking of British and Russian submarines carrying nuclear warheads, with the help of a K.G.B. agent whose lover he killed.Roger Moore finally proved himself as a great Bond in this film. The action in this film is brilliant, the chemistry between Bond and the love interest is very believable it's just a great film. What makes it work is that it drops most of the campy attitude of the previous films and goes into a more realistic territory. Even the parts that aren't realistic at all work. Like the new villain Jaws. He is probably the most iconic Bond villain. He's strong, competent and a great match for 007. The main villain isn't as strong but is still pretty nefarious in his own right. This film is one of the best in the series. It just goes to show you nobody does it better.
- DirectorMartin CampbellStarsDaniel CraigEva GreenJudi DenchAfter earning a licence to kill, secret agent James Bond sets out on his first mission as 007. Bond must defeat a private banker funding terrorists in a high-stakes game of poker at Casino Royale, in Montenegro. After the abysmal mess of Die Another Day Casino Royale wasn't only a breath of fresh air, it was like going up into the mountains and breathing in clean air for the first time in years. A little exaggerated but nonetheless; Casino Royale is one of the best Bond films that's ever been made. The action is fast paced and never tiring, the relationship between Bond and Vesper rivals the relationship in On Her Majesty's Secret Service, and the film is just amazing. The funny thing is most of the film is spent on the poker game. But it's still riveting to watch and no part seems to last too long at all. I loved this film and it is definitely a Bond film I can recommend to all.
- DirectorGuy HamiltonStarsSean ConneryGert FröbeHonor BlackmanWhile investigating a gold magnate's smuggling, James Bond uncovers a plot to contaminate the Fort Knox gold reserve.Just hearing the first few bars of Goldfinger is enough to get me hyped. Goldfinger is the first Bond film that really got my blood pumping while I was watching it. Not because it was filled with action (in fact by today's standards there isn't that much) but because it's just good. Everything in it is just perfect to me. From the villains to the gadgets this film has it all. I just can't put into words how awesome this film is. It's just one of those films you have to watch regardless of whether you like Bond or not. It's my favorite Bond movie and one of the best action films ever released. I love it and will watch it anytime it's on.
