A young man pursues a young lady with the same energy he applies to his other obsession in life, auto racing.

A top race-car driver leaves the sport to get married and settle down, because his new wife doesn't want him to race anymore. However, not long afterwards his wife takes their infant son and leaves him to go to San Francisco. The husband gets word that his son is seriously ill in San Francisco, but he has no way to get there. Just in the nick of time, however, the racer's father-in-law just happens to have developed a new car for a cross-country race--to San Francisco!

Jimmy Wood, a chauffeur, is mistaken for famous racing driver Splinters Wood. Because he is deeply in debt, he enters a race on the advice of Betty Rockford, daughter of a wealthy automobile manufacturer.

To keep the old homestead from being foreclosed, a mother agrees to have her daughter marry the deep-dyed villain who hold the mortgage. However, the daughter has a race-car-driving fiancée who objects, and sets about getting a patent on his new-and-improved automobile valve.

Jack Reese, a mechanic at Corbin Motors, falls in love with Rita Corbin, the daughter of the company's president. Ray Barton, the managing director of Corbin Motors, is also in love with Rita; and aggravated by Jack's affection for her, Barton has him fired. Working with his friend Marcel, Jack perfects a design for a new carburetor, which is then stolen from them by some of Barton's henchmen. Jack and Marcel get it back and enter their car in the big race. On the day of the race, Jack and Marcel are forcibly detained by Barton's men, and Rita takes Jack's place, driving his car to victory. As the result of the carburetor's success, Jack gets his job back and wins her father's approval to marry Rita.

Jerry Thornton is a wealthy playboy whose hobby is fast cars. When his fiancée, Aheila Van Hauten, objects to his competing against professorial drives in the upcoming Speed Classic race, he goes on a drinking and gambling binge in Tia Juana and gets tossed in jail by the Mexican police.

Love and skullduggery are set against the backdrop of the Indianapolis 500.

Racecar-driver Lou Larrigan gets mixed up with a crooked gang of racetrack promoters, and is in love with Ruth Morgan, whose father is marked as a victim by the gang.

A race-car driver whose career is on the skids because of his drinking falls for a rich society girl. That motivates him to clean up his act and resume his career, but it may be too late for that.

David Morton lives with two old-maid aunts. He meets lovely Gertrude and agrees to drive her injured brother's car in the Big Race. Along the way, he encounters gangsters intent on stealing the race.

The race car designer Kit Woods is in love with Kay Lord. Kay's father is against her relationship with Kit. Kit also has to do with the competition from his rival Garry Ames.

With the help of his mechanic buddy, an engineer, and the company's attractive new publicist, an automotive test driver struggles to develop a new carburetor by entering cars in the Indy 500 and speed trials at California's Muroc Dry Lake.

The champion race car driver Tommy Morton is the eternal rival to less-ethical speed king Larry 'Skids' Brannigan. What no one knows is that Tommy and Skids are actually brothers, separated at birth. Driven by a filial devotion that he can't explain, Tommy tries to dissuade Skids from recklessness, only to be "repaid" when Skids tries to steal away Tommy's blond girl-friend Eileen Hart.

Joe is the three-time Indy champion who still races to put young Eddie through college. Joe wants a better life for Eddie, and he explodes when he finds out that Eddie quit school for a racing career. Joe tries to teach Eddie the trade, but they separate when Eddie will not drop "bad girl" Frankie. When Joe causes the death of a driver at the next race, he quits racing and wanders around. Joe winds up at Indianapolis where Eddie is driving the Martin Special.

Larry Evans (Rex Lease), champion race car driver, is envied by his chief rival, Eddie DeSylva (Duncan Renaldo), who has more ambitions than merely winning the races; he has designs on the motor patent held by Corbett (Tom Moore), Larry's employer. Eddie also has a yen for Corbett's daughter, Norma (Muriel Evans), who prefers Larry. Eddie intentionally causes a race wreck that injures Larry and sends him to the hospital. Larry emerges from the hospital and finds his morale and courage has been broken when he falters while chasing some DeSylva henchmen who have robbed Corbett of some blueprints. But he regains his nerve and courage at the race track when he realizes that the driver hired to replace him, Barney Smith (Yakima Canutt), is working for DeSylva with intentions of throwing the race.

A series of identical accidents kills racing drivers, but a dim-witted mechanic suspects they were not accidents.

During a test a race car using an experimental oil-fueled engine blows up, killing the driver. Lucky Taylor, a stunt driver, is initially blamed for the accident, but is later cleared. He thinks the engine design has a real chance to win races, but the racing association has banned it since the accident. He devises a scheme to have a car equipped with the engine entered into a race, without race officials--or the engine designer's sassy daughter--finding out about it.

Beverly Blake, the "Blonde Comet" and the daughter of a tire-manufacturer, gets behind the wheel of a race-car and is soon tearing up the tracks and winning races in Italy, France, and Germany (prior to 1938 when those countries were no longer running international car races in Europe.) When she returns to race on American tracks she meets Jim Flynn, another race-driver, and a rivalry is created--along with a romance. Beverly gives up her chance to win THE BIG RACE by letting Jim race her car and he wins. His win also means a triumph for the racing-car carburetor he has invented and also for the tires manufactured by her father. (It may have been somewhat of a setback for Women's Liberation, though.)

Johnny Randall, a young race car driver, falls in love with Toni Bradley, who hates racing because her brother was killed in a midget car race. To compound that, his mother also objects because his father was killed while racing in the Indianapolis 500. However, he continues racing even though he narrowly escapes death when a jealous rival driver schemes to get rid of him. Then, after this narrow escape, he loses his nerve, but enters one last race. Is owning a gas station in his future?

Two World War II veterans return from overseas--one of them having smuggled into the country a French orphan girl he has become attached to. They wind up running into their old sergeant--who hates them--and getting involved with a race-car builder who's trying to find backers for a new midget racer he's building.
