Watch when stoned
Just a list of movies I particularly enjoyed while partaking in the greens.
Doesn't necessary mean they're stoner films, just films I like to watch when I'm stoned because they're really pretty, opens up profound questions in your mind, or just because these merits just felt better because I wa stoned when I watched them.

- DirectorTerry GilliamStarsJohnny DeppBenicio Del ToroTobey MaguireAn oddball journalist and his psychopathic lawyer travel to Las Vegas for a series of psychedelic escapades. This movie tripped me the *beep* out. It's over the top as sh*t but hilariously so. Especially the characters; their interactions are so ridiculous that it will boggle sober, sane minds. And the visual trips are way exaggerated and even downright horrifying sometimes, that you can't help but feel that this is kind of a PSA in disguise.
Overall, a surreal experience that's only marred by a convoluted plot - isn't that basically what being high is? - DirectorDavid Gordon GreenStarsSeth RogenJames FrancoGary ColeA process server and his marijuana dealer wind up on the run from hitmen and a corrupt police officer after he witnesses his dealer's boss murder a competitor while trying to serve papers on him. This movie is chill as *beep* and then levels up to epic *beep* in like no time. The pacing of the movie is pretty slow though I think, but crazy, ridiculous situations just keep happening, each increasingly more and more *beep* up than the last. And all this happened because 2 stoned guys were at the wrong place at the wrong time - God damn it.
- DirectorF. Gary GrayStarsIce CubeChris TuckerNia LongIt's Friday, and Craig and Smokey must come up with $200 they owe a local bully or there won't be a Saturday.A classic in the stoner movies niche, for good reason. The funny situations felt believable and actually realistic, unlike a lot of movies involving drugs.
- DirectorsLou AdlerTommy ChongStarsCheech MarinTommy ChongStrother MartinStoner musicians Pedro DePacas and Anthony "Man" Stoner unknowingly smuggle a van - made entirely of marijuana - from Mexico to Los Angeles with incompetent Police Sergeant Stedenko hot on their trail. Most stoner movies always create absurd, terrible situations for the stoned characters so it'd be funny cause they'll trip. In this movie, all that sh*t becomes under the bridge within minutes. It's definitely a don't worry be happy film which should crush your weed-induced paranoia. Why trip man? Just relax...
- DirectorRichard LinklaterStarsJason LondonWiley WigginsMatthew McConaugheyThe adventures of high school and junior high students on the last day of school in May 1976.Maybe I really liked this film because I first watched it in High School, and even though the hazing and all that sh*t isn't relatable to me, the characters are.
- DirectorWes AndersonStarsRalph FiennesF. Murray AbrahamMathieu AmalricA writer encounters the owner of an aging high-class hotel, who tells him of his early years serving as a lobby boy in the hotel's glorious years under an exceptional concierge.Wes Anderson's one of my favourite directors out there. This movie has his trademark symmetrical shots and horizontal camera pans. A visual ecstasy, backed by funny, downright -cartoonish-sometimes acting, this movie is a treat. It's just such a pity the ending was a downer. But eh, like really good weed, this movie is worth its duration, everything is nice and pretty, and the come down, is well, like a come down.
- DirectorDanny LeinerStarsJohn ChoKal PennEthan EmbryA Korean-American office worker and his Indian-American stoner friend embark on a quest to satisfy their desire for White Castle burgers. My first stoner film, and oh man, it's hard to top. Let's just ignore the sequels and love this movie for what it is: a hilarious, drug-induced misadventure that was initially sparked into existence by sweet Mary Jane.
- DirectorTamra DavisStarsDave ChappelleGuillermo DiazJim BreuerThe story of three not so bright men who come up with a series of crazy schemes to get a friend out of jail. This movie is for stoned people. I mean it's a movie where a dog takes a toke and starts flying over New York City. Oh and it's got Dave Chapelle, AKA superior Kevin Hart, so it's actually really funny.
- DirectorBen StillerStarsBen StillerJack BlackRobert Downey Jr.Through a series of freak occurrences, a group of actors shooting a big-budget war movie are forced to become the soldiers they are portraying.Okay, just seeing Robert Downey Jr play as a really stereotypical African American (very well) trips me out. And then I see fat suit Tom Cruise and knew this movie was something special. This movie is pretty meta too, taking jabs at Hollywood itself. When you're stoned, man, the hilarious dialogue and exaggerated action scenes are 10 times funnier.
- DirectorAng LeeStarsSuraj SharmaIrrfan KhanAdil HussainA young man who survives a disaster at sea is hurtled into an epic journey of adventure and discovery. While cast away, he forms an unexpected connection with another survivor: a fearsome Bengal tiger. When you feel that mellow high, where you don't really giggle much but nod your head to Reggae tunes, watch this movie. It's probably one of the most beautiful movies I've ever watched, all the while exploring a profound theme on the backdrop of a surreal adventure.
Sounds deep? Well, just hit the spliff and take your mind out for a trip with this. - DirectorWes AndersonStarsOwen WilsonAdrien BrodyJason SchwartzmanA year after their father's funeral, three brothers travel across India by train in an attempt to bond with each other.Yeah, I know, another Wes Anderson movie, and I'm not even white. But man, I'm a sucker for his style of cinematography and quirky humour. This movie's like an emotional roller coaster (or should I say train), some parts I laugh, some parts I feel sad, and some parts I downright wonder what the *beep* genre of film I'm watching. But hey, that's why I like it, it's a trip of its own.
- DirectorJay ChandrasekharStarsJay ChandrasekharKevin HeffernanAndré VippolisFive Vermont state troopers, avid pranksters with a knack for screwing up, try to save their jobs and out-do the local police department by solving a crime.Man, this movie is too *beep* funny. The stupid sh*t these highway cops do are so cartoonish and childish, you start questioning whether the reason you get pulled over sometimes is because the Officer is just bored. It's goofball comedy done right I'd say.
- DirectorsJoel CoenEthan CoenStarsJeff BridgesJohn GoodmanJulianne MooreJeff "The Dude" Lebowski, mistaken for a millionaire of the same name, seeks restitution for his ruined rug and enlists his bowling buddies to help get it.I don't even have to say much about this classic, but I will say my own shortened thoughts of this movie: it makes me happy. The Dude is so chill, I'm always happy to see him, the dream sequence makes me super *beep* happy, man, The Big Lebowski makes me happy.
- DirectorHayao MiyazakiStarsDaveigh ChaseSuzanne PleshetteMiyu IrinoDuring her family's move to the suburbs, a sullen 10-year-old girl wanders into a world ruled by gods, witches and spirits, and where humans are changed into beasts.A fantastic visual adventure, and well, my childhood really. Why watch it when you're stoned? Come on, you want to journey into the spirit world don't you?
- DirectorTrey ParkerStarsTrey ParkerMatt StoneElle RussPopular Broadway actor Gary Johnston is recruited by the elite counter-terrorism organization Team America: World Police. As the world begins to crumble around him, he must battle with terrorists, celebrities and falling in love.I'm usually really *beep* scared of dolls. But the sh*t the puppets in this movie does are funny as hell. I mean imagine marionettes firing bazookas and having sex and sh*t This movie is like if that one *beep* up 10 year old kid in your neighbourhood who swears at the teenagers played with his action figures.
