In the comic book version, Mina Harker, who refers to herself by her maiden name, Mina Murray, does not have vampiric abilities and is the League's leader, responsible for recruiting the other members. In an interview with the Times, Kevin O'Neill, illustrator of the comics, said marginalizing Mina Murray as a vampire "changed the whole balance."
